My name is Ian Hartage and I am a seventh day Adventist high school student that loves to play sports. Being a seventh day Adventist, I have struggled tremendously to find a sports team that doesn’t play or practice from Friday night to Saturday night as my religion states that I should rest from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday. My dream business is to create a sports empire similar to the AAU except I will make it fully accessible to Seventh-Day adventists as well as people from other religions. My goal isn’t to make a super religious sports league, but to make one in which everyone can play and play competitively. My goal is to create a league in which students of all ages and backgrounds can come together and play the sport they love. My goal is to include as many student athletes that I can because I know how it feels to be excluded. That is the positive impact I plan on having in this world. Moving on to the experience I have as of now. So far I’ve started one business that lasted 2 years after the 6-months it took to setup, excluding the brainstorming and planning process. It was a Minecraft server in which people can purchase in game gear and add-ons to improve their gaming experience. My team was able to setup a Minecraft server, discord server, store, YouTube and twitch channels for promotion, and make them run seamlessly throughout the time the business was up and running. The YouTube and twitch channels were made to attract the audience, the discord server was made to maintain and expand on the hype that was established through the social media channels, the Minecraft server was the main portion in which we kept our audience and directed them to the store where we made the money. My team and I made about 800-1000 dollars of profit as 80-90% of the gross revenue went straight back into improving the business and gaming experience. I’ve started other very minor businesses in school where I would sell candy, paper ninja stars, and paper wallets for a small profit every now and again making about $150 all together from those ventures. Since I am 15 years old at the time of writing this, I do not have much experience in running a business or managing finances, but I believe that I have enough experience to deserve a real shot at this scholarship. Thank you for your time.
