Bio

Some of my life goals are to move into New York City, become a software engineer, master the discipline of coding, become a taekwondo master, start my own taekwondo school, and become a taekwondo grandmaster when I'm older. I am most passionate about teaching others. Throughout my life, I have been a taekwondo instructor for the YMCA, a tutor, a piano teacher, and a stage crew lead designer. In each role, I have always tried my best to impart deep and meaningful lessons to my students that will resonate with them for the rest of their lives. I feel like I am a great candidate because I haven't always been bold. Throughout my younger years, I never was the one to seize the moment and step out of my comfort zone. I usually kept quiet and passive in fear of trying new things. However, as I entered high school I joined an art club and met many people who encouraged me to open up and become more extroverted. As I grew up throughout high school I stepped out of my comfort zone and became a leader both inside and outside of school. I assumed the role of a teacher in many activities, such as art club, martial arts, music, and the YMCA. These days, I am most passionate about teaching quiet students like I once was. I see that in every introvert, there is a boldness that is waiting to be nurtured. I bold because I know what it's like to not be bold.

    What do you want to be when you grow up? It’s a question that I’ve been asked a countless amount of times, and to which I’ve given a countless amount of different answers. Although I didn’t know what I wanted to be for a long time, I always knew that I’d eventually figure it out by following my interests and passions. Growing up with limited access to computers fostered a fascination within me towards everything that could be accomplished with the internet. During elementary school, I could be found staying after school to design my own movies and games over the library’s computer. These elementary school hobbies turned into valuable skills within middle school thanks to courses such as graphic design, coding, and Lego robotics. Entering a STEM-focused high school allowed me to further sharpen these skills and gave me insight into which career path was right for me. As I make the transition from high school to college, I can confidently say that when I grow up, I want to be a software engineer. I’ll accomplish this by mastering the disciplines of computer science and use my creativity and passion to one day, change the world.

    When I was offered to teach taekwondo to Staten Island’s developmentally disabled community at Lifestyles for the Disabled, I was nervous. I didn't know much about the developmentally disabled and would be addressing over 200 people, some of whom were twice my age. Despite my nervousness, I accepted and took this as an opportunity to learn more about the developmentally disabled. After spending weeks conversing with the counselors at Lifestyles for the Disabled, I became more knowledgeable and had an entirely new outlook on the disabled community. During the event, I taught with confidence and clarity and made new friends.
