Bio

Hi there! My name is Hunter and I am a proud husband and soon-to-be father. I have always been driven to succeed and achieve my goals, which is why I am pursuing a degree in computer science! I have maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout my studies. In addition to my academic pursuits, I have also had the privilege to serve my country in the Air Force. During my time in the military, I have learned the value of hard work, discipline, and teamwork, which have all been invaluable in my personal and professional life. Outside of my career and military service, I have a passion for sports and have been fortunate enough to play lacrosse as a goalie for 8 years. This has taught me the importance of focus, determination, and the power of teamwork in achieving success. In addition to my professional and athletic endeavors, I am also an active volunteer in my community. I enjoy tutoring students in math and programming, and have also volunteered my time at a local animal shelter in Hampton, VA. At the core of everything I do is a desire to bring people around me up and inspire them to be their best selves. I believe that by lifting others up, we can all achieve great things and make a positive impact in the world.

As a member of the United States Air Force, I have always been drawn to the idea of serving my country and making a difference in the world. My experience in the military has taught me the importance of hard work, dedication, and discipline, and I have always been drawn to careers that allow me to use these skills to make a positive impact on others. When I first joined the Air Force, I was drawn to the field of cyber security because of its growing importance in today's world. With the increasing reliance on technology and the constant threat of cyber attacks, I knew that a career in cyber security would not only be personally fulfilling, but also necessary for the protection of our country. Throughout my time in the military, I have had the opportunity to work with some of the most advanced technologies and systems in the world. I have learned how to defend against cyber attacks and how to keep our networks and systems secure. I have also had the opportunity to deploy to the Middle East in support of Operation Spartan Shield, where I worked alongside other members of the military to protect our interests in the region. This experience has only further solidified my desire to pursue a career in cyber security and make a difference through my work. As I continue my education and training in computer science, I am confident that I will be well-prepared to take on the challenges and responsibilities of a career in cyber security. With a 4.0 GPA and a passion for technology, I know that I have the skills and dedication necessary to excel in this field. As a cyber security specialist in the Air Force, I have always had a strong interest in technology and computer science. However, my journey towards pursuing a degree in computer science began long before I joined the military. Growing up, I was always fascinated by the way computers worked. I was constantly tinkering with my own personal computer, trying to understand how it functioned and how I could make it do what I wanted it to do. This curiosity eventually led me to start teaching myself how to code. I spent countless hours reading online tutorials and experimenting with different programming languages. As I delved deeper into the world of computer science, I began to see the vast potential that technology had to change and improve people's lives. I was particularly interested in the ways that computer science could be used to solve problems in fields like healthcare, education, and the environment. When I joined the Air Force, my interest in computer science only continued to grow. As a cyber security specialist, I was responsible for protecting the military's computer systems and networks from cyber threats. This role gave me the opportunity to work with some of the most advanced technology and computer systems in the world, and I was constantly learning and growing as a result. Despite my passion for computer science, I have not always had an easy path towards pursuing a degree in the field. As a married man with a child on the way and $70,000 in student loan debt, I have had to balance my studies with my responsibilities at home and in the military. However, I have always been driven by a desire to improve my skills and knowledge in computer science, and I am committed to continuing my education despite the challenges. I am proud to say that I have maintained a 4.0 GPA throught my studies. I believe that my experiences in the military have also prepared me for success in a computer science program. My time in the Air Force has taught me discipline, responsibility, and the importance of teamwork, all of which are crucial skills for anyone pursuing a career in computer science. In addition, my deployment to the Middle East in support of Operation Spartan Shield has given me the opportunity to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, which has helped me develop strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to new situations. As I move forward in my studies, I am confident that my passion for computer science, combined with my experiences in the military, will allow me to succeed in my studies and in my future career. I am grateful for the opportunity to pursue a degree in computer science, and I am excited to see what the future holds for me in this field.
    Students Impacted by Incarceration Scholarship
As a first generation student and a member of the military, I have always had a strong desire to break the cycle of poverty and crime that has plagued my family for generations. My uncles' experiences with incarceration were a major influence on my decision to pursue a degree in computer science. I believe that this field can provide me with the skills and knowledge necessary to not only better my own life, but also to help others in similar situations overcome their own challenges. Growing up, I saw firsthand the devastating effects that incarceration can have on a person and their family. My uncles' experiences left a lasting impact on me and made me determined to succeed and make a difference in my own life. I have always had a passion for technology and knew that a degree in computer science would provide me with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in this fast-paced and constantly evolving field. As I began my studies, I was quickly impressed by the vast array of opportunities available to those with a background in computer science. From software development to cybersecurity, there is no shortage of exciting and rewarding careers in this field. As a member of the Air Force and a volunteer in the Airman Against Drunk Driving program, I have seen firsthand the impact that volunteering can have on both myself and those around me. When I first joined the Airman Drunk Driving program, I did so because I wanted to make a difference in my community and prevent tragedies caused by drunk driving. However, I quickly found that volunteering had a much deeper impact on me personally. One of the most significant ways that volunteering has changed my mindset is by teaching me the value of selflessness. As I have given rides home to individuals who were too intoxicated to drive, I have been struck by the realization that my actions are not about me. I am not doing this for personal gain or recognition, but rather to make a positive impact in the lives of others. This selfless mentality has carried over into other areas of my life, as I have become more inclined to put the needs of others before my own. Another way that volunteering has changed my mindset is by helping me to develop a sense of purpose and meaning in my life. In the Air Force, I am often focused on completing tasks and meeting goals, but volunteering has given me the opportunity to step back and see the bigger picture. By helping to prevent drunk driving accidents and make my community safer, I feel like I am making a meaningful contribution to society. This sense of purpose has helped me to find motivation and fulfillment in my daily life. In addition to the personal benefits of volunteering, I also believe that it is important for me to give back to my community and make a positive impact in the world. As a member of the Air Force, I have been fortunate to receive a great education and many opportunities, and I feel a sense of responsibility to use my skills and resources to help others. Volunteering has allowed me to do this in a tangible and meaningful way. I am writing to apply for this scholarship because I am currently facing a significant financial burden in the form of $70,000 in student loan debt. As a married man with a child on the way, this debt is a major concern for me and my family. We are struggling to make ends meet and the added pressure of student loan payments is making it difficult for us to plan for the future. A scholarship would be a tremendous help in relieving some of this financial burden and allowing me to focus on my studies and my family. In conclusion, volunteering has had a profound impact on my mindset, teaching me the value of selflessness and helping me to find purpose and meaning in my life. It has also given me the opportunity to make a positive difference in my community. I am writing to apply for this scholarship because I am facing significant financial challenges and need assistance to pay for my education. I hope that this essay has demonstrated my commitment to service and my desire to make a positive impact in the world.

Mental illness has had a significant impact on my life, especially since my wife Shelby has been affected by it. She has suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to physical abuse from past relationships and an abusive father. This has caused her to have reassurance issues, which can be difficult to navigate in our everyday life. Despite this, Shelby is a strong and resilient person, and I am grateful to have her by my side. I am currently pursuing a computer science bachelor's degree and have been fortunate to maintain a 4.0 GPA. In addition to my studies, I have also been serving in the Air Force for the past four years. While it has been challenging to balance my responsibilities as a service member with my responsibilities as a husband and soon-to-be father, I am committed to making the most of every opportunity that comes my way. One of the most difficult aspects of Shelby's PTSD has been the way it has affected our relationship. It can be hard for her to trust me or feel reassured, which can lead to misunderstandings and conflicts. However, we have learned to communicate openly and honestly about our feelings, and this has helped us to strengthen our bond. I have also learned to be patient and understanding, and to recognize that Shelby's struggles are not a reflection of her love for me or our family. In addition to the challenges we have faced as a couple, Shelby's PTSD has also had an impact on our future plans. We are expecting our first baby boy in May, and while we are excited to welcome this new addition to our family, we are also aware that Shelby's PTSD may present some additional challenges as a parent. However, we are determined to provide a loving and supportive environment for our son, and to do everything we can to ensure that he grows up to be a happy and healthy individual. Despite the difficulties we have faced, I am grateful for the strength and resilience that Shelby has shown throughout our relationship. She has taught me so much about the power of perseverance and the importance of seeking help when we need it. I am also grateful for the support and understanding of my family and friends, who have helped us to navigate the challenges of mental illness. As I continue my studies and my service in the Air Force, I am committed to using my skills and knowledge to make a positive impact on the world. I believe that mental illness is an issue that affects us all, and I am passionate about finding ways to support those who are struggling and to promote awareness and understanding of these issues. I hope that through my efforts, I can make a difference in the lives of others and help to create a more compassionate and supportive society.

As a serviceman in the Air Force and a As a computer science junior and Air Force veteran with a 4.0 GPA, I have always believed in the power of education and personal growth. However, as my wife and I prepare to welcome our first child in May, I am reminded of the financial burden that my pursuit of higher education has placed on our family. One song that has always had a particularly important message to me is "Rise Up" by Andra Day. The lyrics speak to the idea of resilience and perseverance, encouraging listeners to "rise up" even in the face of challenges and setbacks. This message has resonated with me throughout my time in the Air Force and in my academic pursuits, as I have often had to overcome obstacles and push through difficult times. In the song, Andra Day sings about how she will "not let [her] dream die" and that she will "rise up" to overcome any obstacle in her path. This message has inspired me to keep working towards my goals, even when things get tough. Growing with Gabby Scholarship
Over the past year, I have grown significantly in my ability to handle stress and navigate difficult situations. This growth was inspired by my role as a husband and soon-to-be father, as well as my experiences serving in the Air Force. Before this past year, I had always struggled with managing my stress levels and finding healthy ways to cope with difficult situations. I would often turn to unhealthy habits like overeating or procrastinating, which only made things worse in the long run. However, as I prepared for the arrival of my first child and navigated the challenges of military life, I realized that I needed to make a change in order to be the best version of myself for my family. I began seeking out ways to improve my stress management skills, including practicing meditation and mindfulness, seeking support from friends and family, and finding healthy outlets for my emotions like exercise and writing. These efforts have paid off, as I have found myself better able to handle the daily challenges that come my way. In addition to improving my stress management, this past year has also seen significant growth in my self-awareness and self-regulation. As a husband and soon-to-be father, I have had to learn to better understand my own needs and emotions in order to better support and care for my loved ones. This has required a level of self-reflection and introspection that I had not previously engaged in, and has helped me to better understand my strengths and weaknesses as a person. One of the things that has remained consistent throughout this journey of self-discovery is my dedication to my studies and my career goals. As a computer science student with a 4.0 GPA, I have always been driven to succeed academically and professionally. This past year has only reinforced that dedication, as I have worked to balance the demands of my personal life with the demands of my studies. Through my journey of self-discovery over the past year, I have learned that personal growth is a continuous process that requires effort and commitment. It is not something that happens overnight, but rather is the result of a series of small steps and decisions that we make every day. I have also learned that seeking support from others and finding healthy outlets for my emotions are crucial for managing stress and navigating difficult situations. As I look ahead to the future, I am excited to continue this journey of personal growth and self-discovery. As a husband, father, and student, I have many responsibilities and challenges ahead of me, but I am confident that the skills and insights I have gained over the past year will serve me well as I navigate these challenges. As I continue my studies and work towards my career goals, I am grateful for the opportunity to receive a scholarship to help offset the cost of my education. With $70,000 worth of student loan debt, I understand the financial burden that pursuing my dreams can bring, and I am deeply appreciative of any assistance that can help me to achieve my goals. Thank you for considering me for this scholarship. I hope that my journey of personal growth and self-discovery can inspire others to pursue their own dreams and goals with determination and resilience.

My name is Hunter and I have been serving in the Air Force for 4 years. During this time, I have faced numerous challenges and obstacles, but through it all, my faith in God has only grown stronger. One particular challenge that stands out in my mind occurred during a deployment overseas. I was serving in a dangerous area and was constantly facing the threat of enemy attacks. It was a difficult and stressful time, and I found myself relying on my faith more and more to get me through each day. I turned to scripture for comfort and strength, and one passage that really resonated with me was Psalm 27:1, which says, "The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?" This verse reminded me that no matter what dangers I faced, I could always turn to God for protection and guidance. In addition to the challenges I faced while deployed, I also had to deal with the added stress of being away from my family, including my amazing wife. We were expecting our first child in May, and the thought of missing such an important moment in our lives was incredibly difficult for both of us. However, we leaned on our faith and trust in God's plan, knowing that He had a purpose for everything that was happening. One thing that helped me stay connected to my faith during this time was the support of my fellow service members. Many of us turned to prayer and Bible study as a way to find strength and comfort in the midst of such a challenging situation. It was truly a blessing to be surrounded by others who shared my faith and who were there to lift me up in prayer during my darkest moments. Despite all of the challenges I faced during this deployment, I am grateful for the ways in which they helped to strengthen my faith in God. It was a difficult and trying time, but through it all, I learned to rely on God's strength and trust in His plan for my life. I am proud to say that I have maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout my time in the Air Force, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve my country. I am excited to welcome our first child into the world in May and to continue serving in the Air Force, knowing that God is with me every step of the way. As Romans 8:31 says, "If God is for us, who can be against us?" I know that with God's strength and guidance, I can overcome any challenge that comes my way.

My name is Hunter and I have been involved in my community for several years, particularly through my involvement in the Airman Against Drinking Driving organization while serving in the Air Force for the last 4 years. This organization works to raise awareness about the dangers of drunk driving and to promote safe driving habits within the Airman community. This organization also offers free anonymous rides to service members when they are too intoxicated to drive. I decided to get involved with this organization because I have personally experienced the devastating consequences of drunk driving. A family member of mine passed away in a drunk driving accident, and this tragedy had a profound impact on me. Since joining the Airman Drunk Driving organization, I have worked tirelessly to influence change in my community. I have offered my services to over 100 Airman, providing education and resources to help them make safe and responsible driving decisions. I have also worked with local law enforcement and government officials to advocate for stricter drunk driving laws and increased enforcement of these laws. One of the things that inspires me to get involved in my community is the desire to make a positive impact. I believe that every person has the power to make a difference in the world, and I want to use my skills and abilities to help others. I also believe that it is important to give back to the community in which we live. Whether it is through volunteering, donating time or resources, or simply lending a helping hand to a neighbor in need, every act of kindness can make a difference. In addition to my involvement in the Airman Drunk Driving organization, I also volunteer with a local animal shelter and participate in community clean-up events. I believe that it is important to be an active and engaged member of the community, and to work towards making it a better place for all. One of the most rewarding aspects of getting involved in my community is the opportunity to connect with others who share similar values and goals. By working together towards a common cause, we can achieve so much more than we could on our own. I have met some amazing people through my involvement in various community organizations, and I am grateful for the friendships and connections that I have made. Overall, my involvement in my community has been a deeply fulfilling and rewarding experience. It has given me the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of others, and to be a part of something larger than myself. I hope to continue working to influence change in my community for many years to come.

As a former avid gamer for 15 years, the quote "The phenomenon of people within online gaming forums discarding the common accepted social norms of civil discourse and actions and it's effect on real-life social interaction" hits close to home for me, Hunter. As someone who spent countless hours in online gaming forums, I witnessed firsthand how easy it was to get caught up in the toxic and uncivil behavior that can often thrive in those spaces. At first, I didn't think much of it. After all, I was just having fun playing video games with other people. But as time went on, I started to notice that the way I interacted with others in the real world was being affected by my experiences in the virtual one. I became more irritable and quick to anger, and I found it harder to engage in civil discourse with those around me. I realize now that this was because I had become accustomed to the lack of social norms and civility in the online gaming world. It was easy to lash out at other players and say things that I wouldn't normally say in person, because there were no real-life consequences for my actions. But as I started to interact more with people in the real world, I found that this lack of consideration for others was causing problems for me. It wasn't until I made a conscious effort to break my video game addiction and start engaging in other activities that I was able to regain my social skills. I joined school clubs and met my wife, who has been an invaluable support in helping me regain my sense of balance and perspective. Now, my wife and I are expecting our first son in May, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be a positive role model for him. I want to be able to teach him the importance of civil discourse and respect for others, and I know that my experiences with online gaming have helped me to understand the value of these things in a way that I may not have otherwise. In conclusion, the quote "The phenomenon of people within online gaming forums discarding the common accepted social norms of civil discourse and actions and it's effect on real-life social interaction" is a reminder of the importance of maintaining a sense of balance in our lives. It is easy to get caught up in the virtual world and lose sight of the real one, but by making a conscious effort to break away from unhealthy habits and engage in activities that foster positive social skills, we can ensure that we are able to interact with others in a respectful and civil manner. So, I believe that this quote is really important and can be related to almost everyone's life in some way or another.

My name is Hunter and I have proudly served in the Air Force for the past four years. During my time in the military, I have been fortunate enough to have deployed to Saudi Arabia, where I was stationed for a year. While I was there, I experienced a number of intense and stressful situations that have had a lasting impact on me. One of the most difficult things I experienced was the constant threat of incoming base attacks. These attacks were incredibly scary and caused me to constantly be on edge and anxious. In addition to this, I also had a number of close calls where I almost lost my life. These experiences were incredibly traumatic and I struggled to cope with the stress and anxiety they caused. After returning home from my deployment, I was diagnosed with service-related PTSD. It has been a long and difficult journey to recover from this condition, but through therapy and support from my loved ones, I have made significant progress. Along the way, I have learned a lot about myself and the world around me. One of the most important things I have learned is the importance of seeking help when you need it. For a long time, I was resistant to seeking therapy and support for my PTSD. I thought I could handle it on my own and that seeking help would be a sign of weakness. However, I eventually realized that this was not the case and that seeking help was actually a sign of strength. By seeking help, I was able to start healing and moving forward in a positive direction. I have also learned that PTSD is a common and very real issue for many veterans. It is not something to be ashamed of and seeking help is crucial in order to overcome it. I have met many other veterans who have struggled with PTSD and have seen firsthand the impact it can have on their lives. This has made me even more determined to use my experiences to help other veterans who are currently suffering from PTSD. I am currently working towards a computer science degree, which I hope to use to develop new technology to help people with PTSD. I believe that there are many innovative solutions that can be developed to help veterans cope with their condition and improve their overall quality of life. I am extremely passionate about this work and believe that it has the potential to make a real difference in the lives of many veterans. I am fortunate enough to have a 4.0 GPA and have been working hard to maintain this high level of academic achievement. However, I still face financial challenges that make it difficult for me to afford the cost of tuition. This is where the scholarship money would be extremely helpful. It would allow me to focus on my studies and complete my degree without having to worry about the financial burden. In conclusion, my experiences with service-related PTSD have taught me a lot about myself and the world around me. They have shown me the importance of seeking help when you need it and have motivated me to use my experiences to help other veterans who are struggling with PTSD. I am extremely dedicated to my studies and am committed to using my computer science degree to make a difference in the lives of other veterans. With the help of scholarship funding, I am confident that I will be able to achieve my goals and make a positive impact on the lives of others.
