    Lyndsey Scott Coding+ Scholarship
Throughout high school, I have cultivated a passion for computer science by immersing myself in diverse projects, competitions, and research initiatives. One of the most formative experiences has been my involvement in FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), where I developed a strong foundation in both computer science and business. As an active member, I competed in the Computer Problem Solving event, placing fourth at the State Leadership Conference and qualifying for the National Leadership Conference. At Nationals, I took full advantage of the computer and business-related opportunities, attending workshops and networking with industry professionals. My experiences in FBLA solidified my interest in combining technology with business strategies, inspiring me to pursue this interdisciplinary path in college. One of my primary goals in computer science is to address real-world challenges through data analysis and machine learning. I am passionate about developing algorithms that enhance diagnostic accuracy, optimize business processes, and improve decision-making. Studying computer science in college will enable me to deepen my understanding of data-driven approaches to both technology and business, ultimately allowing me to develop innovative solutions in these fields. In addition to my academic pursuits, I am actively involved in my school's Computer Club as President. I implemented outreach programs that increased member participation by 40%, focusing on making languages like Python more accessible to students without programming backgrounds. I was honored to be named one of the few National Cyber Scholars in the nation after scoring over 100,000 points in the CyberStart America competition. This recognition awarded me a $4,500 scholarship to complete a prestigious cybersecurity certification program from the SANS Institute. The skills I gained enabled me to make significant contributions in unexpected areas, such as my RESMOL class, where I participated in the Waksman Student Scholar Program associated with Rutgers University. I developed a program to analyze protein sequences, helping my classmates efficiently compare amino acid matches in a database. Beyond computer science, I am dedicated to understanding the socioeconomic factors that influence technology adoption and business practices. My interest in business stems from a desire to examine how technological innovations can drive economic growth and improve operational efficiency. By combining computer science with business analysis, I aim to address challenges from both a technical and strategic perspective. In college, I plan to pursue a double major in computer science and business, equipping myself with the interdisciplinary skills needed to make meaningful contributions in both fields. In the future, I envision myself at the intersection of technology and business. My goal is to develop applications that optimize business processes while also advocating for data-driven strategies that enhance productivity and efficiency. By integrating my technical knowledge with an understanding of business models, I hope to create holistic solutions that not only improve organizational outcomes but also drive innovation in the tech industry. Receiving this scholarship would significantly support my academic journey by allowing me to pursue my passion for combining technology and business. I am eager to continue developing my skills and using computer science as a force for positive change in both the technological and business sectors.
    New Jersey First Generation Scholarship
First-generation: a word that carries both the weight of expectation and the promise of opportunity. To me, becoming a first-generation college graduate is not just a personal milestone; it is a bridge between the sacrifices my family has made and the limitless possibilities of the future. It means honoring my parents’ resilience by forging a path where dreams become reality and creating opportunities not only for myself but also for those who will follow. My life has been shaped by many meaningful and challenging experiences, particularly growing up as a caregiver for my mother during her epileptic episodes. From a young age, I had to step up in ways most children do not—helping her through seizures, ensuring her safety, and comforting her afterward. My mother’s epilepsy has deeply influenced my aspirations, requiring me to mature quickly and instilling in me a profound sense of responsibility to support my family. These experiences have taught me invaluable lessons. They have given me a deep sense of empathy and resourcefulness, showing me how to remain calm under pressure, think on my feet, and persevere even in the face of adversity. In addition to caregiving, I have grown through academics and extracurricular activities. Founding my school’s Animation Club and serving as its president allowed me to channel my creativity while leading a group of peers toward a shared vision. Volunteering at Pathways for Exceptional Children taught me patience and empathy as I worked with children with special needs, helping them build confidence and independence. Participating in the Waksman Student Scholar Program sparked my interest in research and the role of genes in molecular biology, which I further explored through a publication on the NCBI database. In this publication, I contributed valuable information about the aquatic plant duckweed. These activities have not only shaped my aspirations but have also made me a more compassionate, motivated, and introspective individual. This journey has taught me that being a first-generation student is not solely about earning a degree but about using that education to give back and create opportunities for others. Whether through mentoring younger students, leading initiatives for change, or conducting research with societal impact, I am committed to paving the way for others to succeed. The challenges of being a first-generation student—from navigating college applications to overcoming financial barriers—have only strengthened my resolve. My parents’ sacrifices remind me daily of the privilege and responsibility I carry. Their belief in me fuels my determination not only to achieve my goals but also to realize their dreams. This scholarship represents more than financial relief; it recognizes my journey and potential. It would provide me with the resources to continue striving for excellence in my pursuits, whether in computer science, biomedical engineering, or business. Most importantly, it would empower me to keep breaking barriers, creating a ripple effect of hope and opportunity for my family, my community, and future generations. Being a first-generation college student means embracing the responsibility to lead, inspire, and transform. It means standing on the shoulders of those who came before me while building a foundation for those who will follow. With this scholarship, I promise not only to fulfill my aspirations but also to become a beacon of possibility for others.

I am an Asian American high school senior and a first-generation college student. My cultural background has carved a niche in my life and instilled in me the drive to succeed. Growing up, I learned the value of resilience, discipline, and embracing my heritage even in the face of challenges. Being Asian American means drawing strength from my cultural roots while striving to turn challenges into opportunities in pursuit of my dreams. Under the guidance and support of my Mandarin teacher, every Lunar New Year is filled with celebrations with classmates as we perform self-choreographed and executed dragon dances, umbrella dances, and even Kung Fu performances. It is also a good opportunity to honor family heritage and be proud of our roots. These events are more than just festive celebrations—they remind me of the importance of staying connected to our roots and the joy of sharing that connection with the community. However, my journey has also been marked by challenges. My mother has epilepsy, and witnessing her struggles has deeply influenced my aspirations. Her condition has required me to mature quickly and has instilled in me a sense of responsibility to help support my family. I’ve seen firsthand how medical treatments and healthcare costs can place immense strain on families, and it’s motivated me to take action. This personal experience has influenced me to want to study Business and Computer Science. I want to develop innovative solutions that can make healthcare more accessible and affordable for underserved communities. I hope to combine business and technology to create systems that help families like mine access better treatment options. My ultimate goal is that no one has to choose between their health and financial stability. Higher education is not only a personal dream for me but also one way to honor the sacrifices my family has made and, in turn, give back to uplift others. My parents struggled to give me opportunities they never had, and their determination inspires me to push forward, no matter how difficult the journey may seem. Being a first-generation college student, I realize that life ahead will be filled with challenges; however, my upbringing taught me that hard work and perseverance can overcome any obstacle. Working up to this point was tiring, yet I am fully aware of the fact that a lot of things remain to be done. I have always taken chances and opportunities since doing diabetes research that assisted me to grow and begin alignment toward my goals. These experiences will prepare me for college life while maintaining my interest in creating change. This scholarship would release me from the financial stress of college and allow me to give my full attention to my studies and career goals. I promise this: with your support, I will study hard, strive for success, and use my achievements to empower my community and contribute to a brighter future for all. Being an Asian American has taught me that our culture and values are strengths, not barriers. It has also shown me that even the toughest challenges can be overcome with determination, discipline, and hope. I will use my education to make a meaningful difference, not just for myself and my family but also for the greater community and beyond.
