Hi, I’m Haylee. I’m a senior at Lewis County High School in Weston, WV. I plan to go to nursing school at Fairmont State University to become an RN. I love my family and friends; they are the most important thing to me. I have a dachshund named Stella. I’m currently involved in Student Council, National Honor Society, and Yearbook at LCHS. I have done multiple sports in my life. I'm always willing to lend a hand when needed. Though the future can be scary and unknown, I’m beyond ready to explore it.

Living in the small town of Jane Lew, West Virginia with a population of 406, as of 2021, has its ups and downs. I love knowing everyone and feeling comfortable talking to anyone that comes along my path, but with how small the town is, it is hard to find opportunities to be something bigger than a small town in West Virginia.
I plan to go to Fairmont State University and enroll in their BSN program. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to become a nurse. A nurse is more personal than a doctor, and I would love to help people physically get better and if they're having a hard time, be there when no one else is to help them mentally. I plan to stay at a local hospital to be there for my community. Not only would I just work at a local hospital, but I also want to help other people in my community who would like to go into the medical field.
Sharing why I love being a nurse with others is something I would love to do. I want to inspire others to help their community. Host an informational meeting at my local high school to answer any questions about nursing and give any tips to get through the course. Not only would I inspire them to be a nurse, but there are many other things they can do for their community that doesn't require a degree. Visit a nursing home and sit and talk with some of the people there, help them if they need help walking, or bring them their favorite candy. It would make their day. Call up an old friend that might be having a hard time and talk with them and inspire them to make it through the hard times. Volunteer in the community in any way you can.
People need to be proud of their community and always be proud to say that they grew up there and maybe even plan to stay in that town. My late gym teacher and a staple in Lewis County West Virginia, Beth Nicholas always use to say, "be proud of who you are, what you are, and where you come from," and I will cherish those words forever for her. She opened my eyes to the fact that Lewis County is a wonderful place and this community can move mountains. All I want to do is be a part of that process and help others with the knowledge I gain.
