Lynn Welding Next Generation in Welding Scholarship
Something about the liquified metal and the intricate changing colors steaming into a stronghold continues to draw me into the field of welding. It's something that has called to me from a distance like a small whistle that only I can hear. I’ve always wanted to weld but never really got the opportunity to do so. I have this vivid memory of my first introduction to welding. I was riding my bike on a hot Las Vegas summer day. I remember jumping off a high curb trying to do tricks on my little BMX bike. The bike was old and needed to be refurbished. The alloy between the neck and frame had begun to split, although I still loved it madly. I banked off the curb and landed harshly on the scorching road. I remember groaning in disappointment to see the frame had split right on the alloy. This was the first time I got to see the importance of welding. I remember my dad being impressed that I was able to separate the frame and later returned it to me as good as new.
I can also recount the first time I was able to actually weld. It held a lot of significance for me, like scratching an itch that I was unable to reach. I remember it being incredibly challenging even with the help of my dad. Our air conditioning had stopped blowing cold during the hottest week of summer. All refrigerant had leaked out of several holes in one of the low-side pipes. There were a number of tiny leakages all around so we ended up cutting a section of the pipe and welding a new one in. It took my dad and I hours of trial and error, but it was well worth the labor because it fixed the problem and we spent the summer in a freezing house during the heatwave of July. These were my first experiences with welding which widened my horizons and prompted me to consider doing it more often. I got to see firsthand how welding can repair important items in times of need. This is really what made it so appealing to me.
In the growing modern world, welding is so crucial. Every building, every car, every highway, every ship, every plane, every spaceship, and every robot would not have been brought to life without the help of welding. It is essential to the success and growth of humanity as a whole. This is why I believe that there is such a huge demand for welders that often goes unfulfilled. I am particularly eager to meet this demand. As welding is an essential skill that is needed in all areas of manufacture and can be carried over to everyday problems.
I want to be a part of this community of welders who help push the industry forward. I am excited to learn about the different kinds of welding and slowly get certified. It would be a childhood dream come true to one day be inducted into this select group of welders. Welding is a skill that once I’ve mastered it will never go to waste. It has solved so many issues and is continuing to solve issues in the modern world. It’s applied to all varieties of fields, which is why welding will keep the world connected and moving forward.
Bold Deep Thinking Scholarship
The biggest problem facing the world is without-a-doubt global warming. Humans are continuing to ignore the problem and push the world to its limit. Humans as a race need to come together and start creating ecofriendly ways of doing everyday things like driving, cooking, and find cleaner ways of dispossing of garbage. If not the consiquences will be deadly!
Bold Great Books Scholarship
While there are many great books, my all-time favorite book is called Wonder R. J. Palacio. This book was very emotional and followed a theme of acceptance of all people through the journey of a young boy who has a facial anomaly. I read this book once when I was younger and once when I was older, so each time I got a different outlook on the book. When I was younger, I could only see that people were treating the boy wrong because he looked different, but I didn't really understand the psychology behind the characters actions. Nowadays, I understand the actions of the characters, their justifications, and overall just how common this type of situation is in the day-to-day world. Acceptance is something that all people should learn and this book has a great depiction of it. That is why I strongly recommend this book and why it has always been one of my favorites.
