      Spider-Man Showdown Scholarship
I have to admit, Andrew Garfield's portrayal of Spider-Man in the Amazing Spider-Man movies is my favorite for several reasons that make his performance stand out as the most relatable and true to the character's essence. Garfield perfectly captures the essence of Peter Parker as an awkward, nerdy teenager who faces real-life struggles that many can relate to. Unlike some other iterations that depict Peter as a cool, confident high schooler, Garfield's version feels authentic to the comic book character - an outcast who gets bullied and has trouble fitting in. The Relatable Underdog One of the things that resonates most is how Garfield brings to life Peter's underdog story in a way that feels grounded and genuine. We see him dealing with the harsh realities of being an orphaned teenager, living with his aunt and uncle, and trying to navigate the challenges of adolescence. From being pushed around by the popular kids to pining after his crush Gwen Stacy, Garfield's Peter is an everyman hero that viewers can easily empathize with. This relatability is further amplified by the real trauma that Peter faces in Garfield's portrayal. The death of his uncle Ben is a pivotal moment that shapes his journey, and Garfield's raw, emotional performance in that scene is truly heartbreaking. It's a loss that many can unfortunately relate to, and it adds depth and gravitas to Peter's motivation for becoming Spider-Man. The Nerdy, Quirky Charm Moreover, Garfield perfectly captures Peter's nerdy, quirky charm that makes the character so endearing. From his awkward attempts at flirting with Gwen to his geeky enthusiasm for science and technology, Garfield's performance is infused with a lovable dorkiness that feels true to the spirit of the comics. This nerdy authenticity extends to his portrayal of Spider-Man as well. Garfield's Spidey is equal parts witty and clumsy, cracking jokes while also fumbling his way through fights and web-slinging mishaps. It's a refreshingly human take on a superhero, one that embraces the character's flaws and imperfections rather than portraying him as a flawless, invincible figure. The Emotional Depth Perhaps most importantly, Garfield's performance is layered with emotional depth that elevates the character beyond a typical superhero story. We see Peter grappling with guilt, anger, and a sense of responsibility that weighs heavily on his young shoulders. Garfield's ability to convey these complex emotions, particularly in the aftermath of his uncle's death, adds a level of gravitas and maturity to the character that resonates with audiences. In one standout scene, Peter has a heart-wrenching conversation with his aunt May, where he struggles to open up about his pain and the burden he carries as Spider-Man. Garfield's raw, vulnerable performance in that moment is a testament to his talent and his commitment to bringing authenticity to the role. Overall, Andrew Garfield's portrayal of Spider-Man is a standout because it captures the essence of the character in a way that feels relatable, grounded, and emotionally resonant. From his nerdy charm to his ability to convey the weight of real trauma, Garfield's performance is a reminder that behind the mask, Spider-Man is a flawed, human hero – and that's what makes him truly special.

In the journey of life, we encounter individuals who leave an indelible mark on our souls, shaping our perspectives and guiding us towards paths we never imagined possible. For me, that person was Ms. Batt, a remarkable teacher who first crossed my path in the 7th grade at Hawthorne Middle School. As my science teacher, Ms. Batt's approach to education was nothing short of revolutionary. Her interactive labs transcended the confines of mere worksheets, transforming the classroom into a vibrant playground of discovery. With her infectious enthusiasm, she ignited a passion for science within me, encouraging us students to participate in real-time experiments that brought concepts to life. Little did I know that this initial spark would ignite a flame that would burn brightly throughout my academic journey. When Ms. Batt transitioned to Hawthorne Math and Science Academy, my high school, she became my environmental science teacher, further fueling my love for the subject with her engaging labs and thought-provoking lessons. It was through her unwavering support and guidance that I found the courage to pursue Advanced Placement Biology, a decision that would profoundly shape my academic trajectory. Ms. Batt's vibrant personality and her ability to express herself with such clarity and passion made even the most complex concepts accessible and captivating. However, her influence extended far beyond the confines of the classroom. As the advisor for three influential clubs at our school – MESA, ASB, and AV Club – she became a driving force behind my extracurricular endeavors. With her unwavering encouragement, I assumed the presidency of all three clubs, a feat that would have been unimaginable without her mentorship. Under her guidance, we embarked on a transformative journey, organizing numerous fundraisers, activities, and events that breathed new life into our school community. Her belief in our potential was unwavering, and she pushed us to be open-minded, to question everything, and to embrace the power of persistence. Ms. Batt's impact on my life transcended the realm of academics; she became a second mother, a trusted confidante, and a source of unwavering support. Her influence extended far beyond the classroom walls, shaping my character, my values, and my approach to life itself. Through her example, I learned the importance of embracing curiosity, challenging conventions, and never shying away from the pursuit of knowledge. She taught me that true education is not merely the accumulation of facts but a journey of self-discovery, where we constantly question, explore, and push the boundaries of what we thought possible. As I reflect on my academic and personal growth, I am filled with immense gratitude for the profound impact Ms. Batt has had on my life. She was the catalyst that ignited my passion for science, the mentor who guided me through the challenges of extracurricular leadership, and the role model who inspired me to approach life with an open mind and an unwavering spirit of perseverance. In the tapestry of my life, Ms. Batt's influence is woven into every thread, a constant reminder of the transformative power of a dedicated teacher who saw not just a student but a human being with boundless potential. Her legacy will forever be etched in my heart, a guiding light that will continue to illuminate my path as I embark on new adventures and embrace the endless possibilities that life has to offer.

From a young age, I witnessed the profound impact that healthcare professionals can have on people's lives. My mother, a nurse, instilled in me the values of compassion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to serving others. Her remarkable journey, balancing the demands of motherhood with the pursuit of a nursing career, left an indelible mark on me. As I navigated my own path, I encountered numerous challenges that further solidified my resolve to make a difference through medicine. The devastating loss of my sister plunged me into a state of profound grief and depression. It was during this darkest period that I discovered the healing power of perseverance and community support. The subsequent isolation brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated my struggles, but it also revealed the vital role that healthcare workers play in times of crisis. Their selfless dedication and tireless efforts to safeguard the well-being of others inspired me to channel my own hardships into a force for positive change. Overcoming Adversity My journey has been marked by a series of obstacles, each one testing my resilience and determination. From enduring racism and discrimination due to my Sikh identity to grappling with the loss of loved ones, I have learned that true strength lies in the ability to rise above adversity and turn personal struggles into a catalyst for service. Guided by the principles of my faith, which emphasize community service and uplifting others, I found solace in leadership roles and reviving school clubs and activities. Through these endeavors, I not only regained a sense of purpose but also provided a platform for my peers to heal, reconnect, and embrace their diverse identities. As I stand on the precipice of embarking on a medical career, I am driven by a profound desire to alleviate suffering and promote holistic well-being. My experiences have taught me the invaluable lessons of empathy, resilience, and the transformative power of compassionate care. In the medical field, I aspire to be a beacon of hope for those facing their own battles, offering not only expert medical treatment but also a deep understanding of the human experience. I am committed to advocating for marginalized communities, ensuring that every individual receives equitable access to quality healthcare, regardless of their background or circumstances. Moreover, I aim to contribute to the advancement of medical research and innovation, leveraging my academic achievements and dedication to lifelong learning. A few months before the onset of COVID, the devastating loss of my sister left me grappling with profound grief, plunging me into a state of withdrawal and depression. As in-person school resumed, I recognized the need for a transformative outlet and chose to channel my emotions into self-improvement. I delved into rigorous workouts and focused on my academics, a coping mechanism that gradually provided a semblance of solace during my sophomore year. Over time, I initiated the process of healing by forging new connections, joining the basketball team, and indulging in weekend activities with newfound friends. These experiences allowed me to rediscover a sense of happiness reminiscent of my former self. However, the subsequent passing of my cherished dog and the commencement of my sister's court case brought another wave of emotional turmoil, leading to a loss of motivation. Coping with stress and loss, my academic performance and overall involvement suffered. Realizing the need to not only uplift myself but also contribute positively to the well-being of my peers, I drew inspiration from the movie "The Founder." The narrative of Ray Kroc's persistent efforts to make a difference resonated with me, reinforcing the belief that steadfast determination could indeed effect change. Embracing this mindset, I embarked on the journey to rebuild my resilience. Assuming leadership positions in six student organizations, I was resolute in my mission to revive school activities that had waned due to the impact of COVID. "Persistency," as Ray Kroc eloquently puts it, became my guiding value during moments of self-doubt and the temptation to quit. Reflecting on my ability to overcome adversity, I focused on the collective good, tirelessly working to uplift others. In the face of personal losses, I discovered a profound sense of purpose through service and persistency. As a Sikh, my commitment to serving my community aligns with the enduring power of persistence and resilience, values deeply embedded in Sikh principles. My journey epitomizes how these qualities can empower individuals to support others even amidst adversity. Through the difficulties, I stand proud, having never succumbed to the temptation of giving up. Hailing from India, my family's journey to the United States presented both challenges and opportunities. Born in this new land, I found inspiration in my mother's remarkable story - a tale of resilience and determination. While fulfilling the demanding role of a mother, she pursued a career in nursing and imparted invaluable lessons on fiscal responsibility and seizing educational opportunities. Recognizing the financial strains associated with higher education, my mother guided me towards a strategic path. She introduced me to the concept of dual enrollment as a means to not only save money but also accelerate my academic journey. Starting this endeavor in 7th grade, I consistently pursued dual enrollment courses every subsequent year until my senior year. Through unwavering dedication, I amassed nearly 60 credits, with the prospect of reaching 70 credits by the time I graduate, culminating in the attainment of my associate degree at the tender age of 18. The road to this accomplishment was undoubtedly challenging, demanding sacrifices and relentless effort. I had many nights where I was stressed, lonely, and missed out on going out with friends. However, the fruits of my labor were profound. Achieving the coveted class rank of number one in my school, dual enrollment not only provided financial relief but also afforded me the flexibility to skip redundant classes, enabling me to stay ahead of the academic curve.

Growing up, I was really tall, and my elementary school coach got me into basketball and motivated me to play. He taught me everything about the game. My dad, in our small backyard, would practice with me every day, and we would have intense one-on-one sessions, which helped me improve all my skills. I became really good and played at the park with friends to continue improving and would practice as much as I could. Through basketball, I learned how to work with others and how to be a team leader and an individual who could collaborate effectively. In middle school, my coach, Ms. Jones, taught me how to be a tougher player and instilled in me the importance of persistence and hard work to become the best player I could be. I had some amazing games, and my love for the game grew after I recorded a double-double in a game where we were barely down by a few points, and I made a layup to win for us before the game ended. Even then, I faced obstacles when I sprained my ankle and couldn't play for a while, as well as when I fractured my arm and was out for the season. Then, when COVID-19 hit, I lost my motivation to play as I became lazy and fell into the sin of sloth. I didn't practice anymore, didn't weight lift or run, and just watched Netflix and ate food. Eventually, when COVID ended and quarantine was lifted, and in-person high school began again, I got back to work and worked hard to become the player I once was. I then met new people that I never knew, and I was scared when I met them since it had been two years since I played basketball. I realized they were amazing people, and I found them to be my friends for a long time. We would work out every day, and my coach would push us every day. We would eventually make it to the semifinals, and because my high school, Hawthorne Math and Science Academy, had only had a basketball team for two years of its existence, it was a big deal for us. We worked hard and won so many games until our semifinal game. The game was supposed to be a home game, but for some reason, it was scheduled at the other school's gym, and our star player missed the three-pointer that would have tied the game, ending our season. Despite the disappointing end, I still learned a lot, such as teamwork, determination, and the value of hard work. Basketball has taught me invaluable life lessons that will undoubtedly help me achieve my goals in the future. The discipline, perseverance, and resilience required to bounce back from setbacks like injuries and the COVID-19 pandemic have instilled in me a strong work ethic and a never-give-up attitude. Moreover, the experience of working as part of a team and learning to trust and rely on others has equipped me with essential collaboration skills that will be vital in any future endeavor I pursue.

Everyone faces adversity in their life, and my story is a powerful testament to the resilience of the human spirit in overcoming significant challenges. The journey I've undertaken, from facing discrimination due to post-9/11 prejudice to the heartbreaking loss of my sister and the subsequent isolation brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, is a poignant reminder of the obstacles that can arise unexpectedly in life. My ability to rely on friends and family for support during these trying times was commendable, but the isolation imposed by remote schooling took a toll on my mental well-being, leading to a period of depression and a sense of disconnection. The solitude of being confined to my room daily for over a year was a heavy burden, stripping me of the vital connections that had once sustained me. However, my determination to reclaim my teenage life and rebuild myself through exercise, socializing, and making new friends is truly inspiring. Just when I thought I had regained my footing, the unexpected loss of my loyal companion and the court case surrounding my sister's passing presented new obstacles. Grief and trauma compounded, threatening to derail my progress once again. It is a testament to my strength and resilience that, despite the emotional turmoil and the impact on my academics and extracurricular activities, I refused to let adversity defeat me. Drawing inspiration from figures like David Goggins, who overcame obstacles through sheer determination, and guided by the principles of my Sikh faith, which emphasizes community service, I channeled my personal struggles into a leadership role for others. My dedication to reviving declined school clubs and activities post-COVID, becoming the president of six clubs, including student council, showcases my commitment to uplifting others and fostering a sense of connection and healing after the collective trauma of isolation. The darkest times taught me invaluable lessons in perseverance and compassion, and my ability to turn life's stumbling blocks into stepping stones toward fulfilling my purpose is truly remarkable. Through my efforts to revive traditions and plan fundraisers, shows, and dances, I provided opportunities for my peers to reconnect and heal, finding solace in shared experiences. My story serves as a powerful inspiration for those struggling, reminding them that standing back up requires courage, and that by channeling hardship into serving others, we can find purpose and meaning in even the most challenging circumstances. My advice to never give up and to find strength in helping others is a profound and uplifting message. By sharing my story, I offer hope and encouragement to those facing similar adversities, reminding them that they too can overcome and thrive. The path may be arduous, but with resilience, determination, and a commitment to supporting one another, even the darkest moments can be transformed into catalysts for growth and positive change.

I have challenged myself academically throughout high school by taking dual enrollment classes since 7th grade alongside my normal coursework. This has allowed me to earn over 70 college credits so far and I will be receiving my associate's degree before I graduate high school this year. In addition to my heavy academic workload, my Sikh faith inspires me to serve my community. I have taken on leadership roles including becoming president of 6 clubs - Student Council, MESA, Multicultural Club, Tolerance Club, Audio Visual Club, and Asian Club. I have stayed after school frequently to ensure I provide a positive experience for the seniors at my school. I attend Hawthorne Math and Science Academy, a small academy with rigorous classes and substantial homework. AP classes are limited and require summer tests just to enroll. On top of my academics, I balance responsibilities like taking care of my little sister, cooking for my family, nurturing my relationship with my girlfriend, and starting small businesses that provide me with valuable income. Through all these commitments, I have challenged myself immensely both inside and outside the classroom. My faith, my family, and my community motivate me to push myself to work hard and serve others in all aspects of my life.

As a Sikh, I have been taught the importance of serving my community and being selfless in my actions. I firmly believe that becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon will not only fulfill my personal goals but also allow me to give back to my community in a meaningful way. Cardiothoracic surgery is a complex and demanding field that requires extensive knowledge, skills, and dedication. But beyond the technical expertise, being a cardiothoracic surgeon means having the ability to heal and save lives. I am passionate about this field because I believe that every person deserves access to high-quality healthcare, regardless of their background or financial status. By becoming a successful cardiothoracic surgeon, I will be able to provide life-changing treatments to those in need, giving them a chance at a healthier and happier life. But my aspirations go beyond just providing medical care. As a Sikh, I believe that it is my duty to help those who are less fortunate and in need of support. I want to start projects and programs that will help poor and disadvantaged families in my community. Many families work hard but still struggle to make ends meet, and I want to provide them with the resources and support they need to succeed. By leveraging my skills and resources as a cardiothoracic surgeon, I can make a significant impact on the lives of these families. One project that I have in mind is a mobile medical clinic that will travel to underserved communities and provide free medical care. This clinic will focus on providing cardiac care to those who may not have access to it otherwise. The goal of this project is to improve access to healthcare for those who need it most, regardless of their financial situation. Another project I would like to start is a scholarship program for students who are interested in pursuing careers in healthcare. This program will provide financial support to students who may not have the resources to pursue higher education. I believe that education is a powerful tool that can help break the cycle of poverty and provide opportunities for success. By providing scholarships to students, I can help them achieve their goals and create a brighter future for themselves and their families. I am also interested in starting a program that provides mentorship and support to young people who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. This program will pair students with mentors who can provide guidance and support as they navigate their educational and professional journeys. By providing mentorship and support, I hope to inspire and empower young people to pursue their dreams and achieve their full potential. In conclusion, becoming a successful cardiothoracic surgeon is not just about achieving personal success but also about giving back to my community and making a positive impact on the world. As a Sikh, I am guided by the values of service and selflessness, and I believe that I must help those in need. Through projects and programs that focus on providing healthcare, education, and mentorship to those in need, I hope to make a meaningful difference in the lives of my community members. I am excited about the possibilities and opportunities that lie ahead, and I am committed to using my skills and resources to create a brighter future for those around me.

My aspirations are rooted in my faith, Sikhism, which emphasizes the importance of service and selflessness. I firmly believe that with hard work, determination, and a commitment to education, I can achieve my goals and make a difference in the lives of those around me. One of my wildest dreams is to start a family. I envision a future where I can provide a loving and nurturing environment for my children, teaching them the values of compassion, kindness, and respect. But starting a family also means being financially stable and able to support them in the best way possible. This is why becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon is another one of my goals. It is a challenging and demanding profession, but one that can make a significant impact on people's lives. I want to be able to heal and save lives, all while providing for my family. However, my dreams extend beyond my immediate family. I also want to retire my parents, who have worked tirelessly to provide for me and my siblings. They have sacrificed so much for us, and I want to be able to give back to them and ensure that they can live comfortably in their golden years. I also want to use my education and resources to help those in need in my community. As a Sikh, I am taught to see the divine in every person, regardless of their background or circumstances. I want to live out this value by volunteering and donating to organizations that help alleviate poverty, provide education, and support those in need. To make my dreams a reality, I have stayed focused on my education. I started taking college courses in the 7th grade to get a jump start on my academic career. I have always been determined to succeed and have consistently achieved the highest grades in my school. Currently, I am on track to become the valedictorian of my graduating class. But my dedication to education goes beyond just getting good grades. I am constantly seeking out opportunities to learn and grow, whether it's through internships, research projects, or extracurricular activities. I am also involved in various community service projects and organizations, which allow me to apply my knowledge and skills to make a positive impact on the world around me. Of course, achieving my dreams will not be easy. There will be obstacles and challenges along the way, but I am confident that my determination and work ethic will see me through. I know that success requires more than just intelligence and hard work; it also requires perseverance, resilience, and a willingness to learn from failure. I am ready to face these challenges head-on and use them as opportunities for growth and self-improvement. I am determined to use my education and resources to help those in need and make a difference in the lives of those around me. With perseverance and dedication, I know that I can achieve my wildest dreams and create a brighter future for myself and those I care about.

      Bold Career Goals Scholarship
I would never work towards an career that I hate simply for the money, and it's unfortunate to see many individuals of today society doing that. Especially in the medical field, where you should be putting in everything you have to ensure the best patient satisfaction. Physicians really need to look towards even the most embarrassing situations with professionalism, and be serious towards finding a solution I was always interested in the medical field since my mother was a nurse, but especially since I see society deteriorate so significantly due to physicians ignoring mental health. We see people expressing their mental health as being weak, a waste of time, or you simply don't know any one to speak to. I want to work towards becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon, or somewhere in the medical field such as a psychologist or a neurologist, but I want my patients to feel as if they're listened to. That someones there to hear the issues, without judgement. I want them to feel as if they can disclose anything to me in a safe environment where people won't look down on them for how they feel. My interest had began when I began to take college course in middle school, and I was exposed to one of my first classes. The first courses I had taken was sociology and psychology, and it really emphasized to me why people do what they do, and when an issue is a problem of an individual or a problem of a society. We always see people believe that "anxiety is something everyone deals with", but when it causes such issues within numerous individuals lives then it is a problem of a society. With persistence, I strive to join the medical field where I can finally acknowledge this problem.
      Bold Success Scholarship
We always hear others tell us to work towards an occupation that'll bring you enough money to last your lifetime, and obviously I want that, but there is more to what success is defined as. When you search up what success is on Google, it's defined as "the accomplishment of an aim or purpose", but I see purpose as something else than making money. I see it as contributing to society and the individuals around me. That's how I want to build my own reputation and be known as the person who aided many, rather than the one with a lot of money in the bank. Personally, I always wanted to join the medical field and become a cardiothoracic surgeon. I always saw that field as interesting since it deals with numerous organs within or thorax, but since it's a field where I can build a reputation by having the opportunity to aid others. Obviously, being a doctor is treating patients physically, but often times the long term mental health of a patient is ignored, and continues to worsen over time. It's saddening to see that this issue continues to exist within society, and that many doctors overlook mental health. For this reason I want to join this field in order to make patients feel as if they're listened too. I'm currently a highschool student, and I try to reach my goal by studying anatomy, studying till I know I understand a concept, and I participate in numerous extracurricular activities. I have taken around ten college clases, and many regarding the emphasize of how individuals act in society and why which is why I became interested in mental health. Through my persistence, I hope to join the medical field where I can hear out patients. That's what I call success.
      Bold Art Matters Scholarship
The statue of David, which was made by Michelangelo during the Renaissance or the 1500's. The statue's creation, purpose, the way it was made, the imperfections that symbolize certain meanings, the ideal image of man, are all are the reason why the statue is a piece of art that I favor. The statue in a biblical sense represents a child who killed a Goliath with only his slingshot, and his courage. It inspired people to fight against what is wrong, even if it seems as if the odd's were stacked against you, holding onto hope and courage would allow you to prevail. Furthermore, majority of the population was illiterate, and the statue depicted to the people to stand tall against any enemy of Italy, and to not be afraid. The statue was meant to be put on top of a very tall cathedral with other biblical statues. The purpose of this was when people looked up to observe these statues, it would seem as if they were looking at the heavens. However, the statue was way to heavy and is located in the Academia Gallery in Florence Italy. Additionally, how descriptive and detailed the statue is truly baffles me. The fine detail of his veins, his determined face, the muscles on his body, with him holding a sling over his shoulder. It's as if a human was simply covered in marble. To me it represents becoming our best, and even when it seems as if everyone else is on top of us, we would still prevail.
      Bold Be You Scholarship
I hate it when people don't express why they're actually friends with you. Is it because they see you as a good friend? Someone smart who has the answers to the homework? Or do they feel pitiful that you have no friends? Often times because of this predicament we waste time on individuals who were simply wasting time on you, or we miss opportunities with individuals who wanted to grow with you. It's as if you spent all your energy and time towards someone who didn't really matter in the end. And you'll never know the person who could of been your companion, best friend, or by your side till your death because you focused on the wrong people. The people who use you for their own benefit, and have no regard for the other person is why I stay true to myself. I don't want to waste my time on a lost cause, because it has already wasted enough time. I always express how I feel. If think a person is lying to me, is decieting me, or is being a good individual towards me, I will acknowledge it. It's better to let them know that you're thankful or ungrateful for what they did, which emphasizes how your relationships is with that person.I won't change myself for another individual to appeal to them. I'll still play video games, be weird, sleep in bed till the afternoon, etc. I'd rather be alone knowing that I'm not wasting my time on another person than be in a group a friends who don't truly care for me. Being true to yourself allows you to grow as a person by spending your time with people who matter. If you hold onto the people who hold you back, you will never progress in life.
      Bold Deep Thinking Scholarship
A issue that is becoming more prominent within everyday life is obesity and it's hard to blame people for not doing anything about it. Unhealthy foods are much more accessible, cheaper, and almost on every corner. It's became such an issue that it is essentially an epidemic that money don't perceive or simply ignore because individuals of today's society believe it would be too time consuming to battle their obesity. On every corner we observe fast food restaurants such as McDonalds, Burger King, Rally's, etc., and we don't give a single thought to the food we eat. I am not saying that you should never eat fast food because it is pretty convenient. A warm meal given to you in a short span of time for a small wage. But overtime the effects of eating these types of food add up. So what should we do? People need to become educated regarding this topic in order to have true change against obesity. People believe that you need to spend hours each day exercising in order to reach their ideal body type and have to eat only fruit and vegetables. However, that's simply incorrect. Calories are a form of energy our body utilizes and the extra energy is stored as fat. Meaning all we have to do is cut down on our calories. That doesn't mean we have to eat less food, but rather eat less calorie dense foods. For example 25 strawberries equals 100 calories, but a single slice of pizza is 285 calories. Additionally, the most effective exercise is just walking. Go to the park and go on a peaceful walk, maybe even a jog every other day. If people were able to understand these ideals, obesity would truly decrease. It's just an issue of education.
      Bold Legacy Scholarship
Once I die, I want to be remembered as an individual who at least made a difference within a single individual's life. Everybody in the world want to be remembered as something big, but it makes us forget about those who live normal lives who have to work their butts off to simply make a living. Our perception is so blinded by these expectations that it clouds how we see the reality of the world. We need a world where we are united, together, and available if others need a helping hand. One core value of mine is seva, or aiding others without receiving any award and without the expectation of one. We need to become better people by helping others in order to become virtuous people, with the only expectation of the other person receiving some aid and being in a better position then the day before. Personally, I haven't received much help throughout my life time, but the support that my parents, siblings, friends, and mentors had given had truly shaped me. Those few people are people I am thankful for and it makes me feel as if I owe them and my own community. I always strive to aid others knowing that even some support from a friend, a family member, or even a stranger can really make a difference. I simply want to be remembered as the person who was able to bring change in at least some peoples life by aiding them in any way possible.
      Bold Joy Scholarship
According to google, joy is define as "a feeling of great pleasure and happiness", and I agree. When we feel great, we feel joyful. But what I see as more significant is why we feel joy. Growing up I saw that I could feel more happy by exhausting my self on getting good grades, hanging out with my friends, or by playing video games. These things did make me happy in a point in life, but I knew that they wouldn't truly make me a more joyful person in the long run. Recently I have realized that these things are life, however, it won't have an impact on your life, or on others, but what will is knowing that other's are happier as a result of my actions and decisions. I am able to accomplish this through seva, or aiding others with no expectation of a reward or without expecting any personal gain. All I hope for is that another individual's life becomes better, even if it's in the slightest way possible. For me this doesn't feel like a job, but rather a purpose. You should never be among an occupation that you hate. You should have a job that makes it feel as if it's a hobby, something you enjoy and this is something that gives me purpose. I push myself to help my communty and others in any way possible. And seeing my people become happier, and better than the day before is what would bring me joy.
      Bold Influence Scholarship
One thing I would stand for would be seva, or service to the people without any personal gain. Throughout the world we see selfishness, people living in horrible conditions, and more conflicts everyday which can all be rid of through simply helping others, even if it is the smallest act of service. My religion, Sikhism, preaches about equality among all believers, regardless of their race, gender, sex, socioeconomic status, or even if they are among a different religion or don't believe in God at all, we still accept them, and see them as an equal to all. We even provide free vegetarian food every Sunday, since we believe all people deserve to eat a meal, regardless of how poor or rich they are. The spread of these beliefs would truly make the world a better place. I am not trying to spread my religion, and if you'd like to join it you are more then welcomed and we would accept you with open arms. But, I want to spread these morals, and values since people would become so much more virtuous. We could finally be able to achieve harmony in society, where people looked out for each other, and if you ever needed help from a friend, your family, your teachers, or even a stranger, you'd receive it since they'd know you'd live a better and happier life.
      Bold Happiness Scholarship
What make me happy are jsut the simple things. The sweetness of an apple. The warmth of my blankets during the cold mornings. The beautiful setting sunset at the beach. Or walking through the desert during the night, where the warmth feels amazing against the cold breeze. Another thing that truly allows me to feel great is the beginnings of a new opportunity that conveys greatness. Often times when we try to complete a goal, we have to push our selves constantly even when we feel like giving up. And once we meet our goal we are thankful that we've finally reached the end, but we want to reach more goals and achieve more. This is why we feel as if starting something new even if it seems impossible, which is really fascinating about human nature. But the one aspect of life that makes me the happiest is helping others with no personal gain. You feel as if you are actually trying to aid society, by being a virtuous person who only receives the knowledge of knowing that someones life is better than the day before. My religion, Sikhism, preaches about seva, or service to the people with no personal gain, a value that I hold dearly. Seva isn't something that require you to do something that is life changing, but enough to help another person, such as simply giving another person an apple, so they can taste the sweetness of it, and it might maybe make them a little happier. And that would probably make me a little happier.
      Bold Generosity Matters Scholarship
To me generosity is aiding others that are in need, even in the smallest ways possible. My religion, Sikhism, emphasizes seva, or service to the people without any reward. Generosity can be demonstrated in even the simplest ways, by checking up on your friends and family and ensuring that they're doing fine mentally and physically, completing volunteer work whether it's helping the homeless or helping at your local school, whatever activity that helps people without any reward for yourself is seen as seva, regardless of how small of a service it is. It can be simply cooking a meal for a friend or a stranger. I'd say being generous is only truly generosity if you do the action knowing that it's helping people, it does not benefit you in anyway except knowing the other person's life is better than yesterday, and it lastly not doing the act of kindness for any external reasons. You know if an individual comprehends the idea of generosity if they know when to offer aid to other's, knowing if they are suffering and are in need of a helping hand. Generosity depicts the type of individual we are since the decisions we make define who we are. And if we continue to aid other's in need, it truly depicts your virtue and empathy.
      Bold Listening Scholarship
One thing I do to actively listen to those around me is listening to their tone, body language, and what's going in in general in their lives. I do my best to maintain eye contact and I face my feet towards them to ensure that the individual I am speaking to knows I they have my attention. I never interrupt regarding whatever they are speaking about, and hold my comments till the end of the conversation. I reply to the speaker during the appropriate times of the conversation and provide non-judgemental comments to their conversation. Personally, listening means all the aspects I stated above, but it shows that you have interest in what the person is speaking about. It depicts that you have the capacity to show attention towards an individual for a period of time, making you into a more empathic person. It shows empathy since your able to listen to their issue without making a judgement and by not jumping to any conclusion. I value attention since as a kid I didn't receive much attention from people as a result of them not taking me seriously. Seeing that people are able to have a long enough attention span truly depicts to me how some individuals can be great listeners, and even more empathetic
      Bold Acts of Service Scholarship
I'd say service to the people is one of the most valued aspects of my life. My religion values service to the people without any type of personal reward or seva. By completing seva throughout your life you become a more empathetic individual as well as prevents you from becoming greedy. Throughout my life I try my best to aid individuals, even if it's through the smallest acts of kindness. I constantly check up ionb my friends, whether it's to ensure they're doing fine mentally or physically, as well as I tutor some of my friends to ensure that they have a passing grades. I often times suggest to my friends to practice basketball with me to improve their game and to get into better shape. I do the exact same with my little sister as well as I ensure my parents receive all the help they need, whether it's cleaning the house or helping my mom with her college courses. I volunteer at the churches of my religion, or Gurdwaras where my family and I donate whatever we can. Additionally, after I pray, I usually go to the kitchen where I help wash dishes, clean the surrounding areas, and help to serve food and water within the Langar hall (a community kitchen that offers free food). Service to the people is what makes us into better individuals, by enabling us to understand that aiding others will show us how to become less greedy, and more virtuous.
      Bold Giving Scholarship
Giving back to your community is essential, since as individuals we need to understand that at times people need some sort of help eventually in their live's. All of will come to a time where we are in a dark corner, and a hand from someone is all we may need. Additionally, understanding another persons situation allows us to be empathetic, knowing that we may be in their position one day. Personally, one core moral of my religion that I hold deeply is seva, or service to the people without any goal. The entire purpose of doing seva is to become a better individual by helping other individuals. I teaches us to become empathetic and to not hold any greed. I do my best to do this, even if it is in the smallest ways possible. I consistently check up on my friends and family and ensure they're doing well physically and mentally. I do my best to volunteer as much as possible, whether it is at the churches of my religion, or Gurdwaras by serving food, helping clean, and donating whatever I can. I would say that giving back is what makes us human, or being able to comprehend when to lend a hand out to another individual knowing that they may be in a rough situation.
      Bold Simple Pleasures Scholarship
What makes me truly happy is a balance of peace and quiet, and exciting and worthwhile adventures. One thing you never want in life is too much of something and being able to come home after an overwhelming day is what makes life worth living. Being able to go into your bedsheets into the warmth of them, with the silence of being alone or with your partner allows for a soothing rest. I enjoy waking up to a cold and welcoming morning, and see the sun rise once again. And then take a bite out of a sweet apple while drinking a glass of cold refreshing water. But with life there has to be adventure. Not the crazy type of adventure but the simpler ones. I enjoy going out on a walk while having my air pods in my ears listening to soothing piano music. Or going out to the park to play basketball and taking a large sip of Gatorade after playing a tough match for hours with friends. I enjoy warping myself wit ha small blanket and playing mindless video games with my friends for hours till its the middle of the night. I enjoy cooking a small meal for myself and being proud of it. Though I may enjoy the simple things of life, at least they make me happy.
      Bold Study Strategies Scholarship
A great strategy that allows me to reach academic success is planning beforehand and giving yourself a specific time span to complete an assignment. One thing I had always faced throughout my academic career is procrastination. Something we have all faced and it's because we think we have all the time in the world to complete that assignment. You'd say I'll do it tomorrow, or I'll do it in an hour, or I'll do it in five minutes. That is till it's the day the assignment is due. Parkinson's law greatly demonstrates this phenomenon by showing that we'll somehow complete an assignment if we give ourselves a certain time to complete the assignment. If we give ourselves 5 hours to complete it, we'll probably complete it in five hours. But if we tell ourselves that we must complete it in an hour, then it'll most likely be completed by that time. Another thing is that studying and completing assignments for so long makes your stressed and quite strained and a great method to study is a strategy I call "25 for 5". For every 25 minutes you study, take a five minute break to relax, get some water, a small snack, or just look through your phone. By doing this you reset yourself and once you return to your work you can begin to focus again.
      Bold Nature Matters Scholarship
The peace and serenity of nature is what makes it so intriguingly beautiful. One thing about living in the modern ages is that we are so focused on moving on with our life and our journey that we can't stop for a moment and appreciate the view. Being in an environment where nature is present allows us to truly think and see from a different perspective. Having absolutely no distractions or worry allows us to perceive situations differently and think much more clearly. Growing up my mom would bring me and my family onto trips exploring forests, hiking up mountains, and to the beach and I had previously though it was a waste of time. But, looking back I realized why she did this. As I grew up I became completely focused and distracted on schoolwork, worries, and conflict that I was in a place where I didn't have a single moment of peace. Being in a forest where you only hear the chirping of birds, the running of small squirrels, and the leaves rustling allows you to stop and think in a way I haven't had done before. Or being by the oceanside and hearing the loudness of the waves enabling the blockage of everything around you. It's as if I'm at a place where I have absolutely no worries, and can see things so much more clearly.
      Bold Passion Scholarship
One thing I have always wanted to become was a doctor. Obviously, most people perceive physicians as people who treat illnesses, symptoms, and diseases, but that's where the problem is. Many individual's life decisions were influenced by the experiences they've endured. And many times their mindset tells them to do something that'll negatively affect them, but they don't know it since they don't talk to anyone regarding their mental issues. Eventually, I want to complete college as fast as possible through dual enrollment and complete my residency to become a doctor where I want to make a difference in the medical field. It's awesome if you discover a new medication, a new technique, but what'll truly help people is listening to them. Hearing them out. I want patients to feel as if I'm someone who'll understand, help them, won't judge them, and most importantly, see them as people who just need someone to talk to. I'd say that is something I strive to achieve, and even though I'm not a doctor I still care for my friends and family. For my community, and hopefully in the future, my patients.
      Bold Make Your Mark Scholarship
When I die, I simply want to be remembered by my community as a person who had helped more in their lives. Even if it was in the smallest way possible. I am a Sikh American, and my religion emphasizes "Seva". Service without any personal gain. The goal of it is to become a better individual, and the only thing we get out of it is knowing that the people around us have a better life than before. This moral is something I truly hold highly, and I know that eventually, I will do something to help the people around me. Eventually, once I complete my education and residency, I want to become a physician. I'm not sure what I want to specialize in, but I do know that I want to be able to help my patients from more than the body. I want to help them mentally, socially, and I want to do this by making them feel as if I'm there to listen to their problems. I'll hear them out, be by their side, be supportive, be non-judgemental, and even though the impact may only affect one individual, that indivdual's life now is better and that's enough for me. If I can't be a doctor, I might as well volunteer at a homeless shelter, a mosque, simply anywhere that there are people in need.
      Bold Longevity Scholarship
I think the best way to live a great and healthy life is to simply say no. We always hear people talking about eating healthy, consistently exercising, to get your vitamins, but we never think about how we can prevent the unhealthy choices in our life. As we grow up we will be faced with different pathways and split-second decisions. We may be offered drugs, alcohol, and even if your friend says to just try it it's going to be fine since it's just a one-time thing. Right? That is until you decide to try it again, and again, and again. Until you are addicted. And that's when your life begins to spiral and go downhill. Life is about making smart choices, and knowing when to not make a choice. You should exercise, you should get your veggies in, you should sleep a good night's sleep, but none of that matters if you continue to take actions that negatively impact your health. Don't be pressured into something that you know will cause horrible consequences. It's better to reject someone than to have your life become miserable because of a "one-time experience". What I'm trying to say is that it's not wrong to experience new things, but you shouldn't do something that will have negative consequences simply because you just want to try it once. Don't be afraid to say no simply because they're a friend or your family. You know what's best for you. And if it isn't, just say no.
      Bold Turnaround Story Scholarship
As a kid, I didn't have that many friends abnormally tall I was. From the perspective of a child, no one wanted to hang out with a beast of a child. I had no friends, had no idea how to socialize, and most importantly was alone. One thing I had always simply wished for was having someone besides me, someone to speak to. That was till I met my elementary basketball coach. I remember sitting by myself on the playground, and he had asked me if I had ever played any sports. When I had said no he said, "Welp you're playing for my team now". I was thrilled and even though in my first game I had only scored a single point, I felt as if I was a part of something. I met some great people who I still know to this day and learned something I always wanted to understand. I became a teammate, a friend, I learned how to socialize, and how to be a part of a team. Currently, I am a high school sophomore and as a result of him, I have become a team player with the intent of evolving into an exemplary teammate to lead my teammates to victory. Much of the confidence I have built up over the years was from the simple act of my elementary coach asking me to join his basketball team. And from that they on, I have become the best person I could be, because of him.
      Bold Dream Big Scholarship
My dream life is something that is quite peaceful but eventful. Something I always envisioned of becoming was a cardiothoracic surgeon since I feel as if it will make an actual difference. Obviously ensuring the patients physical health is a top priority, but I want to help them mentally and truly make a difference within their lives. I want patients to feel as if they can come to me and speak to me regarding their life, their tragedies, and what truly affects them so I can truly know how to help them. I want to be able to come home and relax after a day of exhausting and meaningful work. I want to sleep in the warmth of my blanket and wake up to have another eventful and meaningful day. I want to wake up to the serenity and peace of the early morning and watch the rising sun on a cold day. I want to become a person who uses my time wisely to make a true difference. I simply just want a balance of peace and meaning. Just a sense of purpose.
      Bold Speak Your Mind Scholarship
One way I continue to speak my mind is to emphasize to people how I truly feel. I am not afraid to define how an individual affects me or how what they say affects my day. I feel as if I don't at least tell that individual how I feel then it'll carry a burden onto me. I'll continue to think whether or not they knew how I felt as a person towards them and I'll continue thinking of that for the rest of my life. I actively engage with others in conversations regarding conversational topics about issues of the current world since my opinion of these topics reflect what an individual I am. I want people to know that I find certain things unpleasing, exciting, saddening, unfortunate, etc. We need to define our selves as individuals because if we don't, then how will people know who we are? The good or bad person we are? If we don't express ourselves to people then we will miss out on opportunities since they wouldn't know if we were competent for that moment and I think that's just unacceptable. We need to show people who we are and what we think because we accept ourselves, regardless of the opinion of others.
