Life is unfair. All people are treated differently for many different reasons. People of different colors, races, sexualities and genders are treated differently. This is just the harsh truth. I am barely a senior in high school and have already experienced all of these discriminations. When I was growing up the teachers I had would remind me that men have specific jobs and duties, and women have some too. I never questioned this statement before my first year of high school. After this, I felt like I was constantly trying to prove that I can do what the men do. A statement teachers used to make was " I need a big strong boy to help me move boxes". This made girls feel like they are not strong like the boys. This causes doubt in little girls' minds. Making a little girl doubt her strength, and knowledge is detrimental to their self-esteem. These are the kind of encounters that motivates me to confront gender disparity in Texas. As a girl growing up, I never saw a woman stand up to a man. We are treated like we are less than others because of our gender. Most young girls listen to everyone around them and accept that they are less than and only do what they are allowed to. This is because women standing up for themselves is never shown. It is brushed off like it never happened, or it was a mistake. I plan to be whoever it is I want to be, and if anyone has a problem with that then I will handle it accordingly. It is not fair that men should have certain jobs and women others. If a woman has a passion then they should follow it. I plan to encourage and uplift women to be whoever it is that they have always wanted to be. My name is Hannah Sosa and I plan to study early education. I plan on being an elementary school teacher. As a teacher, it is my job to nurture and build these kids up. I will have students for months at a time. I will be an important adult figure in their life. I plan to build up all kids and help them understand that they can be whoever they want to be. I hope to show them that boys and girls can do the same jobs, and have the same outcome. I hope to impact their self-esteem by helping young girls see their beauty. An impact I want to leave on the kids is to always sick up for yourself no matter the person, and not let anyone impair their confidence.

My name is Hannah Sosa. I am currently a senior in high school, and 18 years old. I grew up in San Antonio Texas. Ever since I was little I remember going to school and making memories. I am very fond of all my memories from my elementary years. I grew up middle class so I learned to appreciate all that I have. In this last year of high school, I was looking back and realized the big impact every teacher had on my life. They helped shape me into the person I am today. They taught me life lessons as well as needed knowledge for me to grow as a person. Although they would make time to connect with their students, I never lacked any knowledge. I learned all that I could and it is thanks to my teachers. My current degree program right now is in early education. The reason I was interested in this degree plan is because I have always loved working with kids. I volunteer at my church with the kids and this has opened my eyes to see the importance of teacher figures in kids' lives. Sometimes kids don't have the best at-home life for many different reasons. School is like their safe space. I want to create a loving safe space where all students can learn to the best of their ability. The main interest of this degree for me is the ability to enjoy my job. My job will be to teach young minds every day while creating a fun space for them to express themselves. While creating a fun space for them, I will also have fun alongside them. My long-term aspirations are to create an enjoyable work environment. So that I can make a difference in every single child that comes through my classroom. I aspire to be a teacher that other teachers can learn from, and students can look up to. I aspire to always keep an open mind, and learn from other teachers who have gone through the same thing. One of my long-term aspirations is to watch the students I had before graduating. I recently got to talk to my fifth-grade teacher and it was so heartwarming for both of us to see how much we have grown and changed. She shared with me how amazing it feels to see her students succeed, and now all I want is to feel proud of my students.
Tom LoCasale Developing Character Through Golf Scholarship
I am a senior in high school. My name is Hannah Sosa I play golf for my school. I joined golf my sophomore year and have been in it ever since. Being in golf has shaped me into the person I am today. It is a big part of my high school career and I will remember it for a long time to come. To be completely honest I joined golf for the benefits that it would provide. My friend told me about the places they would go as incentives so I was persuaded to join. Little did I know how such a small decision could change my life for the better. Being in golf in general taught me a lot of lessons, but the game of golf itself has taught me way more. Being in golf has shown me how it is good to have a group of people supporting you through everything. I have met some of my best friends through golf, who support me and help me through everyday life. If I did not join golf then I would not have learned the good life lessons needed to survive. My coach taught me about finances, college life, and the dos and don ts of the real world. He helped me the way my options and chose what I am going to do for the rest of my life. One life lesson I learned from the game of golf is sometimes you will have bad days but that does not define you as a whole. Anyone who plays knows that some days are just bad and there is nothing you can do about it. Golf is a sport of precision, skill, and forty percent luck. Even if the person is an outstanding player sometimes it's just not their day. I once asked my coach why the tournaments had to be two days and he told me that if a great golfer has a bad day, it doesn't need to define them. That is why most tours are two or more days to see who is the better golfer overall. This mindset has helped me a lot. Even if I have a bad day it doesn't define me or make me any less than anyone else. We are all on our journey on the golf course and in life. No matter what we go through doesn't make us bad people. As long as we get back up the next day and do our best is what matters. Golf taught me a that everyone has bad days so won't be too hard on yourself, and it is good to surround yourself with good people to succeed in life.
STAR Scholarship - Students Taking Alternative Routes
I am currently a senior in high school. My name is Hannah and I am graduating top of my class. The career path I am interested in pursuing is an elementary teacher. I see this changing my life trajectory in many different ways. It will hopefully be my career for the remainder of my life. Becoming a teacher is more than a career for me. It is about choosing something I enjoy doing and won't get tired of. I will get to go to work every day and see kids' lives change. I will get to teach them things no one else can. Just seeing their reactions to learning new things will be enough for me. Some kids don't feel love at home. I will get to love kids and nurture them. I will be able to be a positive influence on many kids' lives. I will be a part of many kids' childhoods and I would like to help kids make the best of their childhoods. This will show me some important things. I will work with lots of kids before having my own. So I can be the best mother I can be. The reason I am so interested in this career path is that it fits me and what I want my life to look like. The reason why I am interested in becoming a teacher is that I want to help kids become their best selves. Being a teacher comes with a lot of perks. I get to have fun with kids as well as teach them. It is not hard on the body like other jobs. Considering they have weekends off, breaks in between the school year, and the summer. It will help me take vacations without having to take time off. I will get to see the world as well as enjoy my career. It will allow me to have a life outside of my work. Considering I enjoy working with kids, and school normally ends at 3. I will have my whole day to enjoy no matter where I am. I know many people who don't enjoy their job so they dread going to work every single day. Most of them end up quitting their job and have to start from nothing. I on the other hand have chosen a career that I will enjoy and have fun going to every day. It will help provide for me and my family.

I am currently a senior in high school. My name is Hannah. I am at the top of my class, and I have been playing golf for three years. Ever since I was born I have been going to church. I grew up in the church and have learned the value it holds. The church is like a community in itself. You grow with these people teaching you and helping you grow. Now that I am older I can give back to my community by volunteering at the very place that helped me become the person I am today. I have volunteered for numerous events that my church has hosted in hopes to give back to my community. Normally I help with the kids. The reason for this is that, Throughout my childhood, I had good influences. Ranging from my teachers at school, or church. They helped me have a great childhood filled with fun memories. While I was still deciding what I want to study I was remembering the big impact all of these people has on me. They have shaped me into the person I am today. Without them, I would probably be a different person. I have chosen to further my education and get an education degree. I want to become an elementary-level teacher. The reason for this is that I want to help kids become the best that they can be. I want to help their young minds grow to the best of their ability. School can sometimes have a bad rap. Some kids hate going to school. I want to make my classroom a safe space. A place where the students make friends, and have lots of fun memories that they can remember for years and years. The school doesn't have to be boring. I want to work to help learning become fun, so kids will want to come to school every day to learn new and incredible things. I hope to make a positive impact on all of my students. To be an influence in their life during the time that I have them. I hope to help them enjoy coming to school to learn. I want to give them a safe space, and a person who they can trust. Some kids go through a lot at home so knowing they have a positive classroom to come to every day can help make their lives a little easier.

My name is Hannah Sosa. I am a senior in high school and live in San Antonio Texas. Some attributes that make me unique are my ability to make the best of any situation. Sometimes when things don't go as planned people start to worry and be negative about said situation. I take that situation and turn it around. I help people see the good in any situation. Another thing that makes me unique is that I do not care what people think of me. My opinion about myself is the only thing that matters to me. I have been playing golf for three years and I thoroughly enjoy playing. It gets me active, my best friends play as well, and the coaches have helped me become who I am today. Although I enjoy playing people my age seem to think it is an odd sport to play at my age. They make comments on how it is not a real sport, and how it is a boring sport to watch and play. Some of my friends are embarrassed because they play golf. I on the other hand am proud of my sport. It is something I enjoy. I am not going to let people's opinions affect the way I view my sport. My plan after high school is to become an elementary teacher. This is the way I am going to give back to my community. For a while, I struggled to decide what I wanted my future to look like. It was when I was remembering the people who have impacted my life that I knew what I wanted to do. Every single one of my teachers has shaped me into the person I am today. I have decided that I want to do the same. I want to help kids learn, and become the best person they can be. I want to give kids the same love, and attention that my teachers gave to me. Some kids have no love in their homes, or no person to look up to. For the year that I have each of my students, I want to be someone they can look up to. I want to give them everything that they don't have. For the time I have with them, I want to be a person they trust, and help every one of them learn everything they want to. I want to give back what my teachers gave me.
