A time that I had to endure adversity in my life was when I was going through a rough breakup in my junior year of high school. Because of the breakup, I had been at the lowest point I had ever been in my life. I was experiencing new emotions that I had never felt before and it became a big problem for me mentally. This issue in my life made me feel less motivated to do my work and it also made me talk to my family and friends less. At the start of the breakup, I stayed in my room most of the day avoiding my family and when I was at school, it was hard to be happy around my friends. I did not want to avoid them, but the way I was feeling kept pushing me to do so. Eventually, I got tired of the routine and asked myself “what could I do to make myself better?” I had to and figure out things I liked to do and search for different ways that could help distract me from the sadness I was feeling inside. I started being around my family to keep my mind off things and tell them how I am feeling. When I came home from school, instead of going straight to my room to be alone, I would go sit with my family downstairs and try to talk to them about things that did not make me feel down. I even turned to my friends to help get me out of the rut I was in. They were able to make me laugh and forget about all of my problems. Having my family and friends helped me realize that as long as they are around they can help me out of any problem I am facing. I did not know how important they really were in my life until then. Learning that my friends and family will always be there for me will definitely help me in the future. If I am ever feeling down again, they will be ready to help. Whatever comes my way I will be able to push through it as long as I have them to help build me back up again. This experience made me remember that I am not alone and no matter what the issue is that I am facing, I have people to turn to.
    Bold Generosity Matters Scholarship
To me, generosity is being kind to everyone you meet. It is the key to happiness. Being generous allows you to spread happiness to others, but also gain some for yourself too. Anyone that has taken a moment to be kind to another has felt that positive radiation after completing the act. I believe that if everyone is kind to each other, the world can be a better place. The problem with it now is we do not have enough kind people. All that negativity they bring is what tears us down. If everyone took at least some time out of their day to do something nice for someone, it would make a big difference. Everyone completing a generous act would show how together we all are and that we are a team. We are here for each other and will be there when someone is down. For those that feel like they are alone and have no one, this would be important for them and can improve how they feel. All it takes is one act of kindness to change how they feel and view the world, and being a part of their team gives them the positive radiation they need.

Everyone faces some type of adversity at some point in their life. Some may be small and others much larger. Some can get over it quickly, while others may take longer to finally overcome it. My adversity may seem small to others, but to me, it was a big deal. My problem was just two simple words, break and up. Thinking back on one of the greatest adversities I have ever had to face almost makes me laugh. I was a teenager going through so many emotions that I have never felt before, sadness, anger, and shock. I was so sick and to me, it was like my life was completely over. I was at my lowest low and I would always think to myself, "when is this ever going to go away". Overcoming my problem took a couple of months and I had to learn ways to cope with my sadness. One big thing that helped was having supportive friends and family. The main thing I did was spend time with them. They made sure I always had something fun to do and always tried to keep my mind from straying to my sad thoughts. A second thing I did was pick up different hobbies to keep myself occupied. I started reading more than I did before and even started baking with my sister. Eventually, I was able to get myself back to the way I used to be. Going through the breakup helped me learn a lot about myself. I realized how strong I really am. The experience reminds me that no matter what I come across, I will be able to get through it. I know that it may take a lot of time, but I have learned to be patient and use it as a time to learn and grow. What I was taught during the experience will definitely help me in my career goal. I decided to major in nursing and one thing I know that nurses go through are many different types of adversities. In order to succeed in my career, I will need to know how to overcome anything that stands in my way. I will have to be strong and patient in certain situations and I have learned to do both of those things through the breakup. Everyone faces some type of adversity at some point in their life. Mine taught me that I am strong and nothing can stand in my way. Now I know that I can overcome anything. This experience has me less worried about any other troubles I come by because I know that it will teach me something along the way.

My mother, a teacher, and a friend. Since birth, my mom has been each of those things to me. She cares for me, educates me, and has always been there when I need a shoulder to lean on. The relationship that my mother and I have has greatly influenced my decision to attend college by motivating me to continue my education, helping me find the right school for me, and pushing me to get past any obstacle in my way. Since the beginning of my high school years, my mom made it clear she wanted me to go to college. She wanted me to do what she sadly could not. Her not having enough money to pay for school and having two kids back home made her halt in her steps to pursuing higher education. Knowing this about my mother has always motivated me to attend college. It made me want to make her proud and accomplish what she has always wanted to do. Not only is my mother the root of my motivation, but she has also helped in my college decision. Being new to the road to college journey, I did not know how to start, and being stuck at home in quarantine made it hard for me to get certain outside resources. Luckily, I did not need the resources because I had my mother there to help guide me. She helped narrow down which school was meant for me and what I would like to major in. Without her, I do not know if I would have been able to get through the college process smoothly. Last but not least, my mother always pushes me to get past any obstacle that is in my way. Towards the end of my junior year, I went through a period of depression. I did not want to eat, be around people, or do any of my work. My mom hated seeing me that way and did everything she could to try to help me feel better. She would encourage me to watch movies with her and help run errands with her to try to distract my mind. Doing activities with her eventually helped me feel better and I got past that milestone in my life. The relationship that my mother and I have has greatly influenced my decision to attend college by motivating me to continue my education, helping me find the right school for me, and pushing me to get past any obstacle in my way. Without my mom, I do not know if I would even be where I am today. I am so grateful to have her as my guide through life. She has shown me how needed and important mothers are.
    HomeCare.com Nursing Scholarship
The biggest inspiration in my nursing career has been my amazing mother. My mom has always been my number one supporter and has always pushed me to do good things for myself. She believes that I am capable of doing anything I set my mind to, which helps me believe that yes, I can do anything no matter the circumstances I face. At a young age, my mom inspired me to become a nurse. She has always wanted to be a nurse, but sadly, she did not have the chance to become one. Knowing this has pushed me to want to go into a nursing career. I have always thought to myself that if she could not become a nurse, maybe I can and it will make her proud. My mom has always supported the career I want to go into and has made it very clear how proud she is of me. In the 8th grade, she even signed me up to attend a health science high school the following school year. Her decision for me to attend the health sciences school was a very smart idea. They helped me focus on academics and made sure I was prepared for college and the future years after that. They supplied me with many resources and since the school was small, it was easy to get in touch with teachers and counselors whenever I needed them. My mom was also a huge help when it came to applying to colleges and finding the best school for me. She was able to give me good advice without stepping in the way and telling me where she wants me to go. She let me decide what school I want to attend on my own, while also lending me a shoulder whenever I had a hard time deciding or did not understand what I was doing. My mother’s inspiration will push me to help others when I finally begin my nursing career. Like my mother, I will be able to let my patients and others know that they can do and get over anything. As their healthcare provider, I will always be there when they need a shoulder to lean on and when they have any questions or concerns. Her inspiration will continue to motivate me to go to work every day and put in one-hundred percent of my effort to help save lives.

My go-to toy as a kid would always be a stethoscope, thermometer, and even the fake syringe I would use to give my little sister shots. If you were to give me a toy box when I was younger and told me that I could choose whatever toy I wanted out of it, I would have most likely chosen the toy medical tools over a baby doll or a stuffed animal. I have always been so intrigued by the health care field and even as a child, I knew being in the medical field was something I wanted to do. Before completing middle school, I even had my mom sign me up to be in a health sciences high school so that I can get a background of being in the healthcare field before I actually start learning about it in college. I was able to take courses such as Principles of Biomedical Science, Human Body Systems, Medical Interventions, and Biomedical Interventions beginning my freshman year to my senior year. My school was even able to provide me with a Health Science 2 course, which would have helped me start my CNA training my senior year, but due to COVID, these plans had changed. I decided to choose nursing as my field of study because I love having the ability to help others. The pandemic we have been in for over a year now has even influenced my thoughts on nursing even more. This pandemic has helped me realize how important and needed nurses are in society and that they put in so much work just to heal and take care of others. Nurses are like our real-life superheroes and who would not want to be a superhero? Knowing these things motivates me to work in the medical field even more and makes me want to inspire others to go into the healthcare field as well. After finishing school and earning my nursing degree, I plan on helping as many people as I possibly can and I will try to experience some of the many different types of jobs nurses can do. I also plan on continuing my education to become a nurse practitioner and hopefully open my own clinic one day. I am so excited to finally start pursuing my nursing career, and I am sure my younger self would be so proud of me for living out our dream.

It was very weird watching the news with my family and finding out that school will be closing and everyone will be entering quarantine. All through the pandemic had some downsides, I tried to find light in the situation. At the time I needed a break from school. I was stressed out and wasn’t in a great place mentally. The pandemic gave me a “vacation” and allowed me to work on and build myself back up. Being stuck at home allowed me to find new activities to do and provided me with new hobbies. It also boosted my creativity. I was also able to bond more with my family since we were all stuck in the house together, and surprisingly we didn’t butt heads with each other. We spent a lot of time watching movies and tv shows together and even exercised in the house together. Even though COVID caused a lot of hardships for everyone, I still tried my best to make the most out of it. Through the trouble, I was still able to find a positive outcome out of the situation.

There are both negative and positive impacts from smartphones. Phones can help you keep In touch with others, help answer questions, and also remind you to do things. It can also lead to distractions, which can affect your daily activities and make it dangerous to drive behind the wheel with. For me, smartphones help me stay in touch with friends and family. Also, if I ever have a random question that no one can answer I can pull my phone out of my pocket and ask google. Not only does my smartphone quickly answer random questions and allow me to communicate with others, but it also keeps me organized and reminds me to get things done. A lot of the time I forget to do stuff, so I always set a reminder on my phone so that I do not have to worry about not doing whatever it is that I had to do. Even though there are plenty of positive things about having a smartphone, there are also some negatives such as being distracted by it. My phone has definitely impacted my school activities. Since we have switched to online school and I am always with my phone, it is hard to not go on it when I get bored on Zoom. Sometimes it can lead to me missing things that my teacher has said which may have been very important. Smartphones also have a negative impact on driving behind the wheel. Lots of people use their phone while their driving to text or to change their music which could lead to something very dangerous. In order to prevent myself from doing this, I always drive with my phone on do not disturb so that I will not hear any dings that may want me to check my phone and text whoever has sent me a message. I also try to listen to the radio or have someone else in the car play music so that I will not have to go through having to find music or skipping to something else. Smartphones leave many impacts on people’s lives whether it is negative or positive. It is good to have around when you need questions answered, need a reminder, or if you want to speak to your friends or family. But, it can also become a problem when it is distracting and messes up your daily activities and causes you to use it while you are driving behind the wheel.
    Nikhil Desai "Favorite Film" Scholarship
My favorite movie of all time would be “Avengers: Endgame”. I love superhero shows and movies and this is a recent one that I’ve seen that was amazing to me. I was excited during the entire movie and couldn’t wait to figure out how it ends. I even ended up watching the movie twice because I wanted my younger sister to see why I thought it was so great.
Gabriella Carter Music and Me Scholarship
Music has always played a very important role in my life. I grew up singing in my school’s choir and playing the violin. Being so close to music has always relaxed me and made me feel better whenever I was in a bad mood. I never knew how important music really was in my life until I went through a tough breakup. When my relationship had ended, I went through a lot of different emotions and it was hard to maintain my happiness. I felt like it was the end of the world and I felt too bad to do anything that I liked. I spent a lot of time by myself and when I was on my journey to try to figure out what to do to make myself feel better I eventually started listening to music. I realized how good music made me feel and how it lifted my spirits. One song that is special to me and definitely got me through the hard times is “Be Alright” by Ariana Grande. That song taught me how to move on from adversity and how it’s only temporary and eventually I will be fine. That song is still very important to me and Every time I listen to it I am instantly put into a good mood. Music is very important to my life and it will always be. If I am ever feeling down, I can always turn to music and let it guide me out of my funk. I know that whenever I need it, I can always play my special song and I will be right back in my happy place.

2020 was a tough year for a lot of people around the world and we were all affected by it differently. My 2020 resulted in me not being able to go to school and also hang out with my friends. Not being able to go to school was a very strange shift once the pandemic hit and it took a lot to get used to. It changed the way I learned and how I interacted with other students and my teachers. During 2020, I learned how important it is to make the most out of the time you have because it can be ruined at any point. It made me love everything I experience and not take it for granted because one day I probably won’t be able to do it again. For example birthday parties. Lots of my friends have had their birthdays during the pandemic and since we can’t gather together it definitely made it hard for us all to celebrate together. Before 2020 who would have known that I would end up missing being able to celebrate birthdays with my friends and family. One experience I will remember from 2020 is to always try to push through my struggles. Yes times may get hard, but I can always overcome it and adapt to it. 2020 has also changed how I feel about the future. It has made me very cautious about what college I would like to go to and also worried about my education. Learning has been very different since the pandemic and I’m worried that I will not be able to retain the information that I need. Even though I am worried about the future and there have been a lot of changes in my life, I am still hopeful for what is soon to come. I’m sure I will be able to get through everything that is going on.

One woman in my life that I admire is my mother. Every problem she was faced with, she pushed through. She showed me that I can overcome any adversity that comes my way. Yes, it may be hard, but from what I have seen from her, I know I’ll make It through. My mother is the reason behind why I want to go to college. I have always wanted to go, but she is my motivation to try even harder in succeeding in my career. This drive and motivation I am getting from my mother is what is going to help me push through college and achieve my dream of becoming a nurse practitioner. From what she has taught me, I will be able to get through any issue I may have while trying to pursue my career.

My greatest inspiration in life is my mom. She is the reason why I feel like I already have my life put together. She made sure I picked the right school for me and that I was happy with my major. If I need any help, She is always right there with a helping hand. No matter what she will always be there for me and help me make any difficult life decisions and give me the advice that I need to make sure I choose what is best for me.

My goal in life is to pursue a career in nursing. I have been Interested in nursing since middle school after hearing stories my aunt got to tell about her job. Her stories intrigued me and made me want to become a nurse too. I love that I will be able to help care for people in my community and keep them healthy. To help pursue this goal, my mom enrolled me into a health science high school, so that I will be able to get some background about the health care field. The school also helps its students start being a CNA, since it is required for most of the fields everyone wants to go into. Sadly I was not able to participate in the CNA class due to Covid, so I didn’t get to get the experience that I wanted. To make sure I achieve my goal of becoming a nurse, I will be attending ECU next year. I know that their program will supply me with all the information I need and teach me how to better the health of everyone in my community. What excites me most in this world is the amount of people that love to help and give back to their community. This gets me excited for the worlds’ future and what we will all accomplish.

“Midnight shadows When finding love is a battle But daylight is so close So don't you worry 'bout a thing” “Be Alright” -Ariana Grande This quote is from one of my favorite songs by Ariana Grande and ever since hearing it, it has always stuck with me. This quote helps get me through hard times by assuring me that things will get better and I just need to keep going. One example of how this quote has helped get me through a rough patch was when I was going through a break up. I was depressed, lost the motivation to do school work, and I just felt like my life was falling apart. Hearing this song reminded me that it’s only one hardship that I’m facing and soon it’ll be over. I’m not going to always feel bad and I will get through it. It motivated me to go back to trying my best in school and focus on myself and what I need to get done to better my future.
    COVID-19 Perspective Scholarship
COVID-19 has and continues to be a huge problem around the world. Although it has caused many issues for everyone, we all learned how to adapt to it. COVID-19 has stopped us from doing a lot of things we normally do such as being with family and friends, working, and even going to school. These changes will definitely affect how we socialize and how we are educated. A lot of schools have not opened back up since COVID started, which has changed the way everyone is learning. We are all taking our classes online and seeing our teachers through zoom. Having to take classes online does not give us the privilege of being able to interact with our teachers and peers in person which could help us further our learning. Online classes are harder for some people and they aren’t able to retain everything they are learning. Students also aren’t able to see their peers which may make interacting with others in the future difficult. Some of us haven’t been able to see and speak to others since March of 2020 and we may have lost some social skills. The way we socialize and learn will definitely change. I think people won’t have the social skills they need and they won’t know everything that they are taught.
John J. DiPietro COME OUT STRONG Scholarship
Being asked who my role model is may be one of the most difficult questions I’ve ever been asked. It’s always hard to figure out who in my life has had the most impact on me and who has motivated me the most. I always have to take a few minutes to decide on at least one person that has taught me some type of lesson. Since I have to choose, I would say my role model is my mom. My mom pushed and motivated me to get good grades in school and she happens to be the one that made me want to become a nurse practitioner. My mom’s role in the healthcare field is what really helped me make that decision. She helps dialysis patients and she does her best to keep them alive. My mom really wanted to be a nurse, but it never worked out for her and that gave me a reason to become a nurse. I wanted to be able to do something she couldn’t and make her and my father proud. She has always taught me to work hard and always try and even if I feel like giving up, always push forward. These examples of what I have learned from her will help me get through nursing school. I know that nursing school can be stressful and it’s a lot to learn but I know that If I follow what I have learned from my mom I will be fine as long as I continue to work hard and not give up no matter what problems come along the way. Choosing a role model in my life was really hard for me to do, but after thinking and writing about my mom, I’m positive I chose the right one.
