Hello! Nice to meet you! My name is Halie and I am currently a fourth year student attending Pratt Institute's Bachelor of Architecture program. I have developed a strong interest in Sustainability Studies and Interior Design and am currently pursuing a minor in Environmental Studies. I graduated from high school with a visual arts degree. I am a first-generation student and I intend to keep on going with my education to achieve my career path and dreams as an architect.
Like many other students, the financial part of college can be difficult and stressful. I will greatly appreciate anything I can receive since me and my sister are both attending college. With this being said, I hope to be a winner for one of these scholarships to help my parents in any way.

Ginny Biada Memorial Scholarship
My mother is my role model. She moved to the U.S. with my father at a young age to provide me and my sister with the best future. She worked seven days a week for the past 20 years to fund for my education. My mother is resilient, passionate, hardworking, caring, and everything I could ever hope for in a parent. She has taught me to work hard and focus on what I truly want for my future. Although money may be short at times, she never allows it to be a stress to me or my education. I hope to one day be able to provide for her.
Terry Crews "Creative Courage" Scholarship
In high school, I attended a visual arts program that opened up my knowledge and experience in various disciplines like painting, drawing, illustration, video making, etc. During my transition from high school to college, I realized my growing interest for the interior design and architecture field. I wanted to create real spaces that serve a function and puts the community before aesthetics. Architecture is such a diverse discipline that combines visual arts, graphic arts, model making in order to create 3-dimensional spaces and voids for the users. It's a challenging major that takes into account superficial design aesthetics while also placing immense importance of realistic structural integrity. I hope to graduate from Pratt Institute's Bachelor of Architecture program in 2023 and complete my architecture license after 3 years of real life experience. I have participated in various internships that have allowed me to understand how different educational architecture is from real life architecture. The things we learn in school are only a foundation for the vast amount of information we need for the field. I'm hoping to participate in various architectural internships to broaden my knowledge and understand what type of firm I would like to work with.
Isaac Yunhu Lee Memorial Arts Scholarship
"Eleutheromania" is a proposal for a multi-generational complex that houses 100-beds on the site of 586 Sackett St., Gowanus, Brooklyn. This project looks into the idea of confinement and strives to address the psychological issue of "claustrophobia". The design radically imagines the meaning of space and seeks to establish spatial boundaries in an unconventional way. By exploring visual and spatial continuities, the project provokes a sense of freedom and liberation that may not always be generated through the ambiguous nature of space. Examining the rigorous organizational system in relation to the spacial ambiguity, ultimately obscures the hierarchical systems and starts to blur the distinction of what is private and public. A process that would come to liberate the system from its traditional constraints as it would grant the user the control and liberty over the system. This project was driven by a strong user group, being the claustrophobics. Creating a space that would be suitable for their specific needs and functions was what brought the importance of the user before the space.
