The crowd and my team roared after our win but there was silence in my head that muffled the excitement surrounding me. Five months, six practices a week, and 34 games later, my high school basketball team went undefeated to win the Pennsylvania 6A state championship. That year, I gained a family of 14 girls with whom I spent every day. The run to the States was not easy as I struggled with an eating disorder and depression. I felt like I struggled in silence. My outlook on the world changed and became a little softer because I knew I wasn’t the only one going through a difficult time during those five months. Basketball became more than a sport for me, it has become a lesson that has taught me invaluable lessons that I believe will help greatly for the rest of my life. Dealing with challenges while playing a sport has taught me to be resilient and to rely on myself. Furthermore, it has taught me to have compassion and kindness for others because I hid this part of me for years. Although basketball was not always pretty and glorious, it helped me grow and gain perspective as a person. teamwork has taught me the significance of collaboration in achieving common goals. In the future, whether it's in academics, career, or personal projects, I more than others understand the importance of teamwork. Moreover, if I am being honest I was not the best basketball player talent-wise. However, basketball has taught me Hard work beats out talent when talent fails to work hard. The hustle and drive of a person is what is going to make someone successful in life, this is something that basketball has taught me. This applies to every aspect of life, not just basketball. Basketball has truly been a transformative experience for me. basketball has been more than just a game to me; it's been a journey of personal growth and self-discovery. As I reflect on my experiences on the court, I realize how much I've learned about resilience, teamwork, and leadership. I might have struggled and wanted to give up at points but I did not, and that is what I think was one of my best decisions. These lessons have not only strengthened my character but have also prepared me for the challenges that lie ahead. With the skills and confidence I've gained through basketball, I am ready to pursue my dreams and make a positive impact in the world.
