Bio

A goal of mine for as long as I can remember is to become a veterinarian and save animals’ lives. I am passionate about animal care and well being so that pets can remain happy and healthy. Along with animals, I also have a passion for creating music, writing novels, reading, and graphic design. I also enjoy service and fostering animals at a local shelter. With these activities, I feel that I am making a big impact on their lives. My belief is that sciences are essential to health but the arts are essential to the mind. We are only on earth for a short period of time so I believe that we should help others along the way. Thank you for your consideration.

    Hobbies Matter
Ever since I was little, I have developed an overactive imagination. I would create little stories in my head of “what ifs” and obsess heavily over different aspects of my characters and their individual arcs. I would spend countless hours just painting the setting of my narratives and rethinking over each little finite detail. Each thought would come to me on its own accord, in a way, story development feels easier than breathing. In fact, breathing is something that I struggle with at times. Whether it is school, work, tests, or homelife, something is bound to stir up my anxiety disorder and cause me to struggle physically and emotionally. Being in a shooting at Washington DC on a school trip only increased these feelings of panic. My heart will pound and I will lose all feeling in my legs. Voices feel so desperately far away including my own. When I go through an anxiety attack, it is as if I am a separate entity from my body and I can look down at my empty husk from above. The only hope when I am so far gone is trying to breathe past those dark thoughts. When I think of writing and story-building, it is as if a huge burden is lifted off of my shoulders. I’ve found that writing is therapeutic for my cluttered mind and helps me to focus on the task at hand. Writing helps me to focus and unwind after a busy day or week. It becomes an outlet for the good and bad days. The sorrow, hatred, pain, and euphoria bleeds out of my fingers onto the page. I can write out thousands of words at a time and feel refreshed instead of drained. Anxiety is a beast of a mental disorder and I still struggle with it but, I know with the right coping mechanisms, I can help to alleviate some of my suffering. This illness will likely be something I have to tolerate for the rest of my life but I feel confident in my ability to fight against the hardest symptoms. Through my writing, I hope to be able to aid others who might also be suffering through illnesses and find comfort in reading. Even though I don’t want to pursue a career solely in writing, I do feel that I could succeed in receiving a minor in narrative writing. Character development and storytelling is something that I am deeply passionate about and I am proud that I am able to turn this hobby into an opportunity for the future.
    Bold Love Yourself Scholarship
Something that I love about myself is how passionate I become about topics. Whether in school where I am working on a project or solving math problems, or in my every day life, I know that something new will attract my attention. This passion can stem from something as simple as music, to my complex love of animals and veterinary medicine. I love how dedicated I am to animal welfare and that I want to spend the rest of my life ensuring that animals are given the best quality of life that they can. I also love how passionate I have become with writing. Since I suffer from intense anxiety, sometimes writing is the only thing that can calm me down. I thrive with creative writing and I can write thousands of words at a time. Overall, I love that I can use my passion in order to better the lives of those around me. Whether it is by helping animals, to making music, or entertaining people through my writing, I am proud that I can impact lives for good.
    Elevate Women in Technology Scholarship
One piece of technology that inspires me is magnetic resonance imaging or the MRI machine. Throughout my life, my family has needed to use this type of imagining to scan for various disorders. My uncle had a severe form of pancreatic cancer and would often need to take MRI imaging. In addition to my uncle, my grandmother would often be scanned in MRI machines too. While these outcomes quite hindered me as a child, I am glad that they were diagnosed by this diagnostic tool. I feel confident that as we expand technology and how we can use it, the medical field will be strengthened too. In this new age, the two are often linked and when combined, they can help to save lives. Another example of how MRIs are essential in the medical field is in the case of diagnosing tumors and testing for illnesses in real time. It is incredible magnets within the machine align with the protons in bodies and produce an image when radio waves knock those protons out of alignment. When I get older, I want to pursue a career in animal medicine and I know that I will consult the use of this machine. MRIs can help to make the diagnosis process for diseases easier as it shows way more into the organ systems than other diagnostic devices. Eventually, I would love to work on a project that develops a new way to diagnose diseases like colic in horses. I can only design this with the help of preexisting technology. I know that the world I'm inheriting is more advanced thanks to new technology and I am grateful to live in the time that I do.
