Book Lovers Scholarship
My favorite novel is The Master & Margarita. The novel describes three interweaving tales through the mediums of time. The principle narrative revolves around two lovers that tragically lost and reunited, the Master and Margarita. To reunite, they are assisted by Woland, the devil, and his henchmen, who provoke catastrophes all over contemporary Moscow and blaze a trail of chaos. We are also invited to spectate Pontius Pilate, the fifth procurator of Judea, and Jesus Christ’s execution. The final act congregates all of our principal characters and illuminates the path each of them will take on the journey to peace. Planted between the antics are elements of vice, devotion, denial, and amnesty. Resonating most profoundly is the desire to be forgiven. The cruel, sardonic truth of Russian literature administers such great insights into the reality of absurdities we find ourselves in. More than the novel, I admire the author, Mikhail Bulgakov, for the tenacity required to survive Stalin’s regime. Written with the inspiration of the Soviet Union, through the philosophical questions posed about the role of truth in our essence as human beings, the reader truly grasps the passions behind the character and the author's experiences. The historical facts about Soviet life resonated deeply. I am amazed at how Bulgakov communicated such beauty and tragedy through the vicious political state of Russia. All of the characters are endearing and brilliant in their own right. It feels authentic and imaginary simultaneously, which is a novel beauty. Everyone should read this book because it holds beautiful teachings about life and allows one to see that across time and space, human beings all share similar struggles.
