Bio

I plan to attend college to become an animator so that my films will make a profound connection to wide audiences. Invoking genuine emotion, digging into the roots of the human experience, causing personal reflection to build a greater understanding of oneself and in doing so aid in the audience’s connection with others in our world. Resulting in the promotion of peace, acceptance, and inclusion for the benefit of all. I will use the money that I earn from scholarships to achieve this goal, thus alleviating monetary burdens from my family.

Do you remember the last time you laughed, screamed, or cried in response to a movie or T.V show? That was the result of long hours and careful deliberation of cinematic artists and is something I aspire to achieve as an animator. The technology used in animation and the abilities it has given to artists is truly inspiring. For this reason I plan to attend college so that with my films I can make a profound connection to wide audiences, invoking genuine emotion, digging into the roots of the human experience, causing personal reflection to build a greater understanding of oneself and in doing so aid in audiences connecting with others in our world. Therefore promoting peace, acceptance, and inclusion. As an animator my name would appear among the thousands more in the credits at the end of a movie. And I prefer it that way. There is something powerful and pure in impacting someone for the better without care for recognition. This is a concept I learned from another. In middle school I was sitting at a table with a group of kids who were chatting away. One girl, an upperclassman whom I did not know very well, noticed that I was being especially quiet. With some concern, she asked if I was okay. “I’m ok… my grandma passed away yesterday.” I spit out the words trying not to choke on them. The table got very quiet. I averted my gaze and was blinking away tears. She stood up, walked toward me, stooped down, and hugged me. I do not remember her name, but I remember the kindness she showed to a nerdy social outcast. It was a moment of honesty, transparency, comfort, and human connection, addressing grief as part of the human experience. I want to be like that. My name is not remembered, but my impact is. I want my work to change lives for the better. Even if it is just one individual, I may not have changed the whole world, but I changed theirs. The amazing technology in animation will allow me to impact lives by shifting perspectives into places of greater knowledge and understanding, where deep connection flourishes. The change I want to create, through my films, is one of better understanding of self, thereby aiding in the understanding of others, fostering acceptance, inclusion and peace in our world.

Do you remember the last time you laughed, screamed, or cried in response to a movie or T.V show? That was the result of long hours and careful deliberation of cinematic artists and is something I aspire to achieve as an animator. This scholarship would greatly aid in completing the major step of paying for college and realizing my dream of becoming an animator. I plan to attend college so that with my films I can make a profound connection to wide audiences, invoking genuine emotion, digging into the roots of the human experience, causing personal reflection to build a greater understanding of oneself and in doing so aid in audiences connecting with others in our world. Therefore promoting peace, acceptance, and inclusion. My role models have both fueled and supported this mission. One of the most influential role models in my life is my father. During the most challenging time in my life I could always rely on his patience, perseverance, genuinity, and gentle strength, which he modeled for his children. My greatest challenge was in 2019 preceding COVID 19. The year before COVID I was an eighth grader and experienced many major life changes. At the beginning of the year my paternal grandmother passed away after a long battle with cancer. In November my maternal grandmother experienced sudden heart complications and also passed away. I was unable to have a conversation that offered closure with her. My cousin, who has experienced severe mental health difficulties, attempted suicide. Three of my parents' long time family friends also passed away from various causes. Towards the end of the year my first dog had to be put down. Our second dog followed within a month. Throughout this time I was facing the pressure of starting high school and was looking forward to a fresh start. However, due to COVID, I was online for a large portion of my first year. The quarantine left me feeling quite alone, like so many others, but was especially hurtful as I felt I had no one my age to support me in my struggle. In addition to tackling the daunting task of high school, coming from a very small school and experiencing major culture shock, I was taking on many responsibilities at home in the care of my three younger siblings. My character grew a considerable amount during this time. However, when everything felt like it was falling apart my father worked hard to provide a sense of safety and stability for his family. He taught me about grief, love, true strength, perseverance, and dedication. He shaped my future by proving to me that we can endure a lot more than we expect, and imbued me with wisdom that will serve me the rest of my life. This scholarship would take me one step closer in paying for college. I am a dedicated student; I’m Currently attending CSU-P and I’ve earned college credit at other colleges including: UCCS, PCC, and CU Denver. When I graduate I will have earned 50 college credits. This is in the hopes that I will be able to be efficient in earning my degree and least burdensome to myself, and especially to my family. My hope is that my parents' support may be reserved as much as possible for my three younger siblings, who also expect to attend college. It is my intention to pay for my own education in order to relieve that burden from my parents and allow my sisters’ to have the most freedom available in choosing their futures, without being consumed with monetary anxieties.

In this way the quote by Cassandra Clare, “One must be careful of books and what is in them, for words have the power to change us.” is just as applicable to any movie or T.V show; and, just like books, film impacts each individual in a unique and personal way. As an animator my name would appear among the thousands more in the credits at the end of a movie. And I prefer it that way. In terms of my need for financial assistance, I have worked hard in an attempt to save up and find money for my college education. During the summers, as soon as I was able to drive, I worked long hours caring for multiple species of animals, milking goats, assisting in kiddings (goat births), dairy production, cleaning, sanitizing, and landscaping at Good Pasture Farm. We live 30 minutes away from the nearest town of any size, so employment options are limited and my low wage is not proportional to the cost of gasoline. Now that summer has ended, I spend the large majority of my free time studying, and applying for scholarships while also babysitting my siblings, as my parents are usually working. We do not have any trust funds or wealthy family members to assist with expenses. My parents will have two children in college simultaneously and by the time my youngest sister enters high school they will be of retirement age. I have been proactive, working just as hard in my education as I have at my job. Attending honors and college classes, I’ve committed myself to my studies in order to fill my future with as many opportunities as possible. I am currently attending CSU-P and I’ve earned college credit at other colleges including: UCCS, PCC, and CU Denver. Animation as my career would allow me to impact lives by shifting perspectives into places of greater knowledge and understanding, where deep connection flourishes. Why is Marvel, DC and Disney so widely loved? Because most stories, however far-fetched, unbelievable, or dramatic, are a reflection of the human experience and invoke real emotion, thus having the potential to change a viewer. Captain America is an internationally acclaimed character, however, the story of a scrawny kid transformed, with the use of a magic potion, into an invincible man, with an idealized physique, who single-handedly destroys evil regimes, is objectively fanciful. Nevertheless, the narrative is impactful because the innate human desire to have the strength necessary to protect and preserve what we love and value most is part of the human experience. The story influences the audience by serving as an inspiration to remain true to one’s morals. The change I want to create, through my films, is one of better understanding of self, thereby aiding in the understanding of others, fostering acceptance, inclusion and peace in our world.

The right side of my brain is dedicated to creativity and originality expressed in my artwork; as well as emotional intelligence, attentiveness, empathy, compassion, and humor. The left side of my brain is used in logic and reason supplying organizational skills, time management, responsibility, and dependability. I hope to contribute these characteristics to my future college to create a friendly, inclusive, peaceful and productive environment, while also being dedicated and efficient in earning my degree.

Do you remember the last time you laughed, screamed, or cried in response to a movie or T.V. show? That was the result of long hours and careful deliberation of cinematic artists and is something I aspire to achieve as an animator. When I first saw the Dreamworks production The Prince of Egypt I was enthralled. My captivation continued after the credits and I eagerly dove into the special features. What I witnessed was seemingly magical. How did these sketches and drawings become so imbued with life?! The special features revealed how animators had fused 2D animation with 3D components. This was a truly revolutionary concept to an eight-year-old, but even more so to people working in animation at the time. I was mystified at how this coalition of 2D and 3D animation was able to so effectively immerse the viewer. Such innovations in animation have progressed in leaps and bounds to the present. This was enabled by the use of technology and has been an integral part in making animation the captivating and beautiful experience it is today. The new capabilities of animation, imbued by the powers of technology, are a large component of what inspired me to pursue animation as my career. I plan to attend college so that my films will make a profound connection to wide audiences.
