I Can Do Anything Scholarship
My ultimate goal is to graduate from medical school and become a highly skilled Neonatologist at one of the top hospitals in Texas. My passion for becoming a Neonatologist is rooted in a deep love for children, nurturing and caring for others, and personal experience that awakened a sense of purpose within me. I am committed to achieving my educational goals to becoming a competent healthcare professional who will make a positive impact in the lives of infants and their families. I want to be the one that makes a change by providing the care and compassion they deserve.
AHS Scholarship
I spend a lot of my time reflecting upon my educational journey and contemplating the path that lies ahead, and one very evident thing is the deep passion I have for becoming a Neonatologist so I can give the best care possible to each bundle of joy the mother brings into this world. This strong desire comes from my empathetic love for children as well as what I witnessed and experienced in the neonatal unit, as my baby sister, unfortunately, had to be the example of the mistreatment that was endured. I am determined and committed to achieving my educational goals to becoming a competent healthcare professional who will make a positive impact in the lives of infants and their families. As I am currently pursuing my undergraduate degree, I have sought out many opportunities to gain knowledge and experiences that will help me achieve, better yet excel in my career aspirations. Beyond acquiring a strong academic foundation, I have made it a priority to actively engage in extracurricular activities, take on leadership roles, and get into research projects related to neonatal care. I know for a fact that attaining these experiences will shape and skill my understanding of what happens in the neonatal field and further my determination to make a difference. My love for nurturing and caring for others was evident at a young age and I have not been able to turn that part of me off. This passion continued to grow stronger as a spent more time volunteering at the local senior center, babysitting infants throughout my teenage years, as well as being one of the coordinators for the children’s ministry at my church. Witnessing the fragility of newborns as well as the tireless efforts of healthcare professionals, that care, deeply touched my heart. However, the incident that shook me to the core was the maltreatment of my baby sister in neonatal care. Walking in to witness a nurse choking her is where the spark ignited in my head, this is when I knew no matter what, I must become a Neonatologist. Being there to witness the screams my mom and dad let out as they watched her tiny body flail around trying to catch air was the most gut-wrenching thing to experience at the tender age of 13. Not all nurses are here to care for patients, some are just there to make their money for the day and leave. Where is the principle of empathy? Why do we no longer care for the lives entrusted to our hands? I used to question for years what the outcome would have been if I had not asked my dad to let us visit her. No mother, father, sister, brother, or anyone for that matter should have to ask questions like that. From that point forward, I vowed to dedicate my life to her and school to earn my doctorate and become a healthcare professional to provide exceptional care to my future patients. Although my immediate goal is focused on completing my undergraduate studies and gaining practical experience, my ultimate objective is to attend medical school and earn my doctorate, becoming an esteemed Neonatologist with the title “MD”. The road to achieving this dream will undoubtedly be demanding, but I am steadfast in my commitment to hard work, perseverance, and tireless quest for knowledge. By attaining a medical degree I will have the expertise and authority needed to provide the highest level of care, making a significant impact on the lives of countless newborns and their families.
Wellness Warriors Scholarship
Growing up watching TV, when I see college students on campus conversing with other students, out riding on their skateboards and having a laughing fest, it made me think "Wow, college is going to be so fun when it's time for me to go", yeah, TV shows did not depict everything correctly. College life comes with academic demands, social pressures, and independence which can be both exhilarating and overwhelming. Through the stress of new responsibilities and commitments, it is crucial to prioritize personal wellness. Managing personal wellness not only ensures a healthier and happier college experience but also plays an important role in academic success. By adopting many strategies to maintain physical, mental, and emotional well-being, students can foster balance and unlock their full potential. A key way to manage personal wellness is prioritizing your self-care. This is not stressed enough. Regular exercise, balanced nutrition, and sufficient sleep are most needed to make sure you feel good and look good. Engaging in physical activity not only improves physical fitness but also enhances mental clarity, reduces stress, and boosts energy levels. Also, nourishing the body with nutritious meals added with quality sleep can improve cognitive function, memory retention, and overall well-being. By setting time aside for self-care, students can establish a solid foundation for personal wellness, enabling them to approach their academic endeavors with great focus.
Another vital aspect of personal wellness is positive mental health. College can be a time of heightened stress, emotional challenges and anxiety. To manage personal wellness effectively, students should prioritize mental well-being. this can be achieved through stress management techniques like meditation, breathing exercises, and activities that promote relaxation and rejuvenation. Seeking support from campus resources such as counseling services or support groups can provide guidance and tools to help get through college. Addressing mental health concerns proactively allows students to maintain emotional resilience and create an optimal environment for academic success. Moreover, maintaining personal wellness establishes a healthy work-life balance. While academic pursuits are very much important, it is equally crucial to engage in extracurricular activities, pursue hobbies, and make social connections. Participating in clubs or community service provides that sense of fulfillment. Building a support network of friends, and mentors, who share similar interests and values can create a sense of belonging, reduce isolation, and promote overall well-being. By creating a balance between academic responsibilities and personal pursuits, students can prevent burnout, enhance motivation and achieve greater success in their studies.
In addition to these strategies, time management skills are essential for personal wellness. Effective management enables students to allow sufficient time to study, leisure, self-care and socialize. By creating a schedule or utilizing productivity tools, students can prioritize tasks, avoid procrastination, and reduce feelings of overwhelm. Good time management allows for a sense of control, reducing stress and facilitating a more structured and balanced life. Maintaining personal wellness leads to academic success. When students prioritize their well-being, they increase their focus and improve their cognitive abilities and problem-solving skills. They can better manage their stress levels and approach situations with clarity and resilience. More so, personal wellness fosters a more positive mindset and elevates self-confidence and motivation. Taking proactive steps to maintain wellness helps to build the foundation for a fulfilling and rewarding college experience.

Rose Ifebigh Memorial Scholarship
As a child of Nigerian descent, my upbringing has been shaped by the remarkable journey of my parents who in 1998, made the decision to leave behind their homeland, and their families and seek a new life in the United States. Fleeing the devastation of war, they stayed for years in a refugee camp, their spirits resilient and faith strong despite the hardship they faced. Three years later, I was born into this world with high hope, abundant opportunity, and the intense influence of immigrant parents. Growing up with immigrant parents has granted me a unique perspective on life. They have imparted wisdom and life lessons that surpass mere textbook knowledge. In my household, each challenge or setback had been met with a prayerful fable, a captivating story rooted in our heritage. These fables contain learned lessons, teaching me the importance of honesty, doing right at all times, perseverance and enduring the strength of the human spirit.
The sacrifices my parents have made for me and my siblings are immeasurable. They have suffered plenty leaving behind their dreams and aspirations to ensure that we have the chance to go far in life. I can say that I am very proud of how far my parents have come in life. My dad has always seen education as something very important, he never gave up on his dreams to get his degree and become an Engineer. He has completed his associate's and is on the road to attaining his Bachelor's. Luckily, my brother is following his path to becoming an Engineer as well My mom, my best friend, she's the cheerleader of the family. She was not able to learn her dream of becoming a nurse. She fled when she was still in high school, so instead, my sister and I are living that dream for her to become doctors in medicine. Witnessing their unwavering commitment to our well-being has instilled in me a deep sense of gratitude and determination to make the most of the opportunities afforded to me. The lessons I have learned from my parents have left a permanent impact on my life and the choices I make. Their hard work has inspired me to approach my studies with diligence and determination. I have come to understand that success is not simply given to us, it is earned through hard work, perseverance, and being committed to excellence.
My parent's journey has ignited me with a passion for helping others, particularly those who face similar challenges. I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of education from my family members back home in Nigeria. My parents have worked hard to put their siblings, nieces, and nephews through school, some even graduating soon. This realization had driven me to pursue a career path where I will make a positive impact on the lives of others. In addition to the lessons taught by my parents, the support and belief in my abilities have been instrumental in shaping my self-confidence. They taught me to take failure as a stepping stone to success. Not every day is going to be a perfect day. Learn from that setback, and never lose sight of your dreams. Their constant faith in me continues to propel me forward no matter the challenges I face.
As I embark on my academic journey and pursue my career aspirations, I carry with me lessons of sacrifice, determination, perseverance, strength, and courage instilled by my immigrant parents. Their extraordinary journey shaped my character and fueled my drive for success.
Xavier M. Monroe Heart of Gold Memorial Scholarship
Life is a journey that presents us with unforeseen challenges, setbacks, and failures. It is through these experiences that we grow, adapt, and discover our true potential. I encountered the challenge of financial hardship and depression. This unexpected combination left me feeling diminished, doubting my abilities and questioning who I am trying to be and if I can reach the finish line. However, through resilience and a determined mindset, I managed to pull myself out of the abyss and embrace a positive outlook on life and what I strive to become. Financial hardship cast a suffocating darkness over my aspirations. Growing up in a low-income household, every step toward higher education seemed like an unreachable mountain. I witnessed my parents working tirelessly to meet up with my school payments and have enough to put food on the table for my younger siblings. I worked many hours to sustain my housing and allow for there to be food on the table for me but in return, my grades took the hit for it. The weight of this financial burden bore down on me heavily, causing doubts and uncertainty to cloud my vision of a brighter future.
To compound these struggles, I found myself grappling with depression, an invisible and relentless enemy that robbed me of joy, motivation, and self-belief. It cast a gray cloud over every aspect of my life making even the most simple task a whole day project. In these moments, I felt less than myself, suffocated by the notion that success and happiness were distant dreams reserved for others and not me. The greatest thing of all is when the devil wants to take everything you want and dream of away from you he will try his hardest to make it happen but by keeping your trust in God, he will allow you to rise from that deep dark forest. Through self-reflection and a desire for change, I embarked on a journey of self-faith and healing. I found the help I needed through counseling, meditation, and confiding in a trusted professional who had my goals and best interest in mind. This process allowed me to face my inner demons, unpack the root cause of my depression and rebuild my shattered self.
Thankfully I recognized the immense power of the mind I realized that my thoughts, beliefs and perspective on my life were paramount to determining the path of my life. With newfound determination, I shifted from dwelling on limitations to embracing possibilities. I adopted a mantra of positivity, affirming over my life that I am capable, I am resilient, and I am worthy of success. I sought inspiration in stories of triumph over adversity, drawing strength from individuals who transformed their struggles into stepping stones toward greatness. As my mindset transformed, so did my outlook on life. I reviewed my challenges as lessons and opportunities for growth. Setbacks and just temporary detours that lead to the road to success. Failures are lessons that pave the way for future triumphs. All I had to do was see everything through a positive scope. This shift in my perspective allows me to tackle obstacles head-on, to persevere in the face of adversity and to remain steadfast on the path toward my dreams.
Through this journey of self-belief, I have learned many valuable lessons that have shaped the person I am today. I have learned the importance of resilience, embracing challenges as catalyst for personal growth. I have also learned that there is nothing wrong with being vulnerable and seeking help, understanding that no battle is fought alone.
Charles Cheesman's Student Debt Reduction Scholarship
I am a 21-year-old, education-driven student transferring back to Texas State University eager to share my story and aspirations with your esteemed scholarship committee. From a very tender age, I have been captivated by the world of healthcare, and this passion has remained an unwavering flame within me. My love for healthcare blossomed when I was just a little girl but what cemented this passion of mine is my youngest two siblings being born into the neonatal unit. Witnessing uncompassionate care from the hand of nurses that are to be trusted with the lives of little ones sparked a deep sense of empathy within me. It was then that I resolved to pursue a career as a neonatologist, a specialist who provides critical care to fragile newborns, at one of the best hospitals in Texas.
However, the path to realizing this dream has been held back by financial burdens and hardships. Growing up in a low-income household, my family faced significant financial constraints, making college seem like an unconquerable challenge. Nevertheless, I refused to let these circumstances deter me from my ambitions. With unwavering determination, I worked tirelessly working part-time jobs and applying for scholarships to help my parents and alleviate the burden of my tuition fees. Despite these adversities, I remained actively involved in my community, recognizing the importance of giving back. I dedicated my time to volunteering at senior centers assisting the elderly and providing companionship. I also dedicated my time to my local church by cleaning up and decorating for upcoming services and events as well as taking care of the younger kids for Sunday service. These experiences reinforced my belief in the power of empathy and inspired me to make a lasting impact through my chosen career in healthcare.
By awarding me this scholarship, you would not only provide vital financial support but also reaffirm the belief that perseverance and hard work can triumph over adversity. The money I save by paying down my student loans would be utilized to pursue further education and training. I will invest money into additional courses to obtain certifications that can take me further, expand my knowledge as well as hone my skills in the future as a Neonatologist. I aim to contribute to research initiatives aimed at advancing neonatal medicine, striving to improve outcomes for vulnerable newborns. Furthermore, I hope to start my business in my native country of Nigeria to help students from grade school to college that face the same struggles as me here in America.
To conclude, I am more than grateful for the opportunity to share my story with you and express my aspirations. Throughout my journey, I have learned that one's circumstances do not define their potential but rather fuel their determination to overcome obstacles. With your support, I am confident that I will be able to fulfill my dreams, dedicating my life to caring for newborns and making a positive difference in the field of healthcare. Thank you for considering my story and thank you for your gracious support.
