Bio

Everything that I do in life is to one day leave a legacy to my children. I am a proud mother of two sons, I teach AVID III and IV, and I coach basketball and volleyball. Although I wake up daily feeling blessed to have a job (teaching) that I love doing, I desire a career change due to an unexpected storm in life. My oldest son has been battling a rare fungus infection for over a year now. He has had over eight operations, lost his ability to walk, and can no longer take care of himself. I have been with him bedside in the hospital for the last four months. This eye opening, gut-wrenching experience has ignited a fire within to go back to school to obtain another degree, Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Due to this storm, I gained a love and appreciation for the nurses and doctors that have taken care of Jaquon. I know that with my background, my heart, my work ethic, and personality, I will ROCK nursing. Striving for greatness runs through my veins; therefore, I know that I will work hard to be the best nurse. Making a positive impact in the lives of others brings me great joy. Achieving my Bachelor of Science in Nursing will open many doors for growth, allow me to continue providing for my family, and give me the opportunity to continue sharing my gifts and talents with everyone I come across. Paying for my education as a single mother is difficult, so receiving scholarships will make this dream into a reality by helping pay for my education. Thank you.

Picture this: One day your cell phone rings and you receive a call that no mother wants to receive from her children. "Mom, they found a mass on my lung." My heart dropped immediately and tears flooded my face. In January of 2021, all of the worst thoughts and fears raced through my mind: cancer, death, and pain. Flash forward to September of 2023, I have been bedside in the hospital with my son for over a year. He has gone in and out of the hospital since June of 2021, had over 8 operations, and is fighting for his life. He is battling a rare fungus infection that went misdiagnosed for months allowing it to run rampant throughout his body like a cancer spreading from his lungs, spine, and to his head. In October of 2021, he lost his ability to walk due to an abscess of the fungus pressing on his spine. This indeed has been a parent's worst nightmare for their child. Witnessing my 22-year-old son suffer with excruciating pain for over two years and losing his ability to take care of himself, has taken a toll on me, but I am determined to remain strong and positive for him. Due to this storm, I gained a love and appreciation for the nurses and doctors who have taken care of Jaquon. It has ignited a fire within me for a career change. I know that with my background, my heart, my work ethic, and my personality, I will ROCK nursing. Striving for greatness runs through my veins; therefore, I know that I will strive to be the best nurse that I can be. Making a positive impact on the lives of others brings me great joy. Achieving my Bachelor of Science in Nursing will open many doors for growth, allow me to continue providing for my family, and allow me to continue sharing my gifts and talents with everyone I come across. Any scholarship(s) will make this dream a reality by helping fund my education. I have exceeded the loan limits due to my other degrees, so I cannot afford to pay out of pocket for this degree. I plan to continue attending school to earn a master's degree in nursing as well. I plan to work in a hospital setting for a few years while continuing my education to become a nurse practitioner or anesthetist. Thank you, in advance, for helping me achieve success and overcome adversity.

This life-altering event has also opened my eyes to many things such as not taking life for granted, racial disparities in healthcare and insurance, and the need for genuine people in the healthcare field. It has ignited a fire within for a career change. I know that with my educational background, my heart, my work ethic, and personality, I will ROCK nursing. Striving for greatness and living by my motto, "I will be a Rainbow in the Clouds for whoever comes into my presence" is how I will leave a footprint in the sand. Making a positive impact in the lives of others brings me great joy. I will confront gender disparity in Texas by not stopping at just earning my BSN. I will work towards leadership roles such as a charge nurse, nurse practitioner, etc. Achieving my Bachelor of Science in Nursing will open many doors for growth, it will allow me to continue providing for my family, and it will give me the opportunity to continue sharing my gifts and talents with everyone I come across. Any scholarship(s) will make this vision into a reality by helping fund my education because money is tight due to this situation. Bold Growth Mindset Scholarship
Everything that I do in life is to one-day leave a legacy to my children. I am a proud mother of two sons, I teach, and I coach basketball and volleyball. It is important for me to show my sons that anything is possible with God, if you work hard for it, never give up, and have a growth mindset. HSINTELLIGENCE Minority / Indigenous Nurse Leader Scholarship
Picture this: You are a successful teacher, coach, mother, daughter, etc. One day you receive a call that no mother wants to receive from her children. "Mom, they found a mass on my lung." My heart dropped immediately and tears flooded my face. In January of 2021, all of the worst thoughts and fears rushed my mind like a flood: cancer, death, and pain. Flash forward to March of 2022, I have been bedside in the hospital with my son since November 9th. He has gone in and out of the hospital since June of 2021, had over 8 operations, and is fighting for his life. He is battling a rare fungus infection that went misdiagnosed for months allowing it to run rampant throughout his body like a cancer spreading from his lungs, spine, and head. In October of 2021, he lost his ability to walk due to an abscess of the fungus pressing on his spine. This truly has been a parent's worst nightmare for their child. Witnessing my 21 year old son suffer with excruciating pain for over a year and losing his ability to take care of himself, has taken a toll on me, but I remain strong and positive for him. Due to this storm, I gained a love and appreciation for the nurses and doctors that have taken care of Jaquon. It has ignited a fire within for a career change. I know that with my background, my heart, my work ethic, and personality, I will ROCK nursing. Striving for greatness runs through my veins; therefore, I know that I will strive to be the best nurse that I can be. Making a positive impact in the lives of others brings me great joy. Achieving my Bachelor of Science in Nursing will open many doors for growth, allow me to continue providing for my family, and give me the opportunity to continue sharing my gifts and talents with everyone I come across. This scholarship will make this dream into a reality by helping pay for my education. Thank you, in advance, for helping me achieve success and overcome adversity.
