Adversity is a part of life that everyone encounters, but it is how we face it that defines us. My journey of overcoming adversity began when I decided to join the Marine Corps after high school. As a first-generation American, with my father from Cuba and my mother from Colombia, I felt a deep sense of duty to serve and protect the country that had given my family so much opportunity. Becoming a Marine was one of the hardest things I have ever done. The rigorous training pushed me to my limits, both physically and mentally. I remember the long nights and early mornings, the exhaustion, and the constant pressure to perform. It was during these challenging times that I learned the true meaning of resilience and perseverance. The Marine Corps taught me discipline and the importance of teamwork, values that have stayed with me ever since. My deployments were another test of my strength. Being away from my family, especially my wife and son, was incredibly difficult. With another baby on the way, the weight of responsibility was heavy. I realized that life does not pause for adversity; it continues to move forward, and so must we. I overcame these challenges by focusing on my goals and the support of my loved ones. Staying connected with my family through letters and calls reminded me why I was doing this and gave me the motivation to keep going. These experiences have shaped me into the person I am today. They taught me that adversity is not an obstacle but an opportunity to grow. I learned to remain calm under pressure and to find solutions rather than dwell on problems. These skills have been invaluable in my studies at Grand Canyon University, where I am completed my degree in Business Management. Now I am embarking on a new challenge to obtain a Masters in Business Administration at the University of Miami. The discipline and leadership skills I gained in the Marine Corps have helped me excel in my coursework and prepare for a future in business. To anyone facing similar circumstances, my advice is to embrace the challenge. Remember why you started and stay focused on your goals. Surround yourself with people who support and believe in you. It is okay to feel overwhelmed, but do not let it stop you. Each day is an opportunity to learn and grow. Use the adversity as a stepping stone to become stronger and more resilient. In conclusion, adversity has been a powerful teacher in my life. It has taught me resilience, discipline, and the importance of perseverance. These lessons have not only helped me in my personal life but have also prepared me for a successful career in management. I am grateful for the challenges I have faced, as they have made me the person I am today.

In the heart of Menifee, California, nestled within Riverside County, I envision starting a business named "ModernCraft Creations." ModernCraft Creations will be a woodworking and additive manufacturing business with a strong focus on community involvement. This venture aims to enrich the local community in several ways and contribute to its general welfare. ModernCraft Creations will be a haven for creativity, craftsmanship, and skill development. The business will be two-fold: a woodworking studio and a 3D printing facility. This combination will allow us to cater to a wide range of individuals, from artisans and DIY enthusiasts to people seeking new skills or job opportunities. To improve the welfare of our local community, ModernCraft Creations will implement several strategies: Job Creation: We will offer employment opportunities to local residents, particularly those who may face difficulties finding work due to various circumstances. This can include part-time positions for artisans, woodworkers, and 3D printing technicians, as well as administrative roles. Skills Development: Our business will host workshops and training sessions to teach woodworking, 3D printing, and related skills to community members of all ages. These programs will empower individuals with new skills, enhancing their employability and entrepreneurial potential. Community Involvement: ModernCraft Creations will actively engage in community events and charitable projects. We plan to organize events like woodworking exhibitions, art fairs, and fundraisers, with the proceeds directed toward local causes, charities, and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of the community. Donations: An integral part of our mission is giving back to the community. We will regularly donate crafted items to individuals and organizations in need. These items may include furniture, assistive devices, and educational materials. Our objective is to make a tangible impact on the lives of those facing challenges in our community. To develop and launch ModernCraft Creations, a comprehensive business plan will be essential. This plan should include: Market Research: Thoroughly researching the local demand for woodworking and 3D printing services and identifying potential competitors and gaps in the market. Legal and Financial Considerations: Registering the business, obtaining necessary licenses and permits, and establishing a robust financial structure, including sourcing initial capital. Location and Equipment: Finding an appropriate location for the business, equipping it with the necessary machinery, and setting up a functional workspace. Skills and Training: Identifying skilled staff or partners with expertise in woodworking and 3D printing and providing them with any required training. Marketing and Promotion: Developing a marketing strategy to create awareness about ModernCraft Creations, attract customers, and promote community engagement. Community Outreach: Building partnerships with local organizations, schools, and community centers to establish a network for skills development and volunteering opportunities. Sustainability: Implementing eco-friendly practices in our operations, such as using sustainable materials and minimizing waste, to benefit both our business and the environment. By establishing ModernCraft Creations, we hope to contribute to the overall well-being of the Menifee community, not only by creating job opportunities and supporting skill development but also by fostering a sense of togetherness and charity. Through the fusion of business acumen and community spirit, we aspire to make a lasting, positive impact in Menifee, Riverside County, and beyond.

Patriotism holds a profound significance for me, shaped by my journey that began when I joined the Marine Corps right after high school in 2011. Over the years, my deployments to the East China Sea, Gulf of Aden, Djibouti, and humanitarian work in the Northern Mariana Islands, specifically on Tinian, have enriched my understanding of what it truly means to be a patriot. For me, patriotism embodies a dynamic commitment that extends beyond geographical boundaries and encompasses service, empathy, and positive representation. Having traversed distant seas and witnessed diverse cultures, I've come to understand that true patriotism is about answering the call when one's country requires support. Serving isn't just a duty; it's a testament to the values and principles that define a nation. Whether aiding less privileged individuals or participating in critical missions, patriotism is a reflection of our collective responsibility. In Djibouti, the resilience of communities amid adversity demonstrated that patriotism is a global responsibility. This realization was solidified during my involvement in humanitarian efforts on Tinian, where I saw firsthand the impact of extending a helping hand to rebuild lives. Patriotism, thus, is the embodiment of compassion and solidarity. However, patriotism is not solely about action; it's also about representation. Every step taken and every interaction had while representing one's country is a reflection of its ideals. Upholding local customs, fostering respect, and promoting goodwill contribute to this positive representation. My journey, which began as a commitment right after high school, has evolved over time, shaped by my experiences and dedication. As an active-duty member of the Marine Corps, I recognize that patriotism is a commitment that deepens with experience. It's not confined to uniforms; it's about internalizing unity, empathy, and duty. It underscores the interconnectedness of our world, emphasizing that the well-being of others is intertwined with our own. Patriotism is a pledge to be a catalyst for positive change, regardless of the setting – be it the high seas, remote islands, or our immediate surroundings. In summation, my deployments and engagements, spanning over a decade of active duty, have illuminated the essence of patriotism as a mosaic of service, empathy, and responsible representation. This understanding guides my actions and amplifies my dedication. As I pursue scholarship opportunities, I'm reminded that patriotism is not merely a concept; it's a way of life that molds our decisions and shapes the world around us.
