Breanna Coleman Memorial Nursing Scholarship
You know, I've always been drawn to helping others and making a positive impact. Nursing allows me to do just that. The idea of being there for people during their most vulnerable moments and providing care and support really inspired me. Plus, the variety of experiences and the opportunity to continuously learn and grow in the field are so exciting to me. It's a career where I can make a difference every day.
There are so many ways I can give back to my community as a nurse. One of the ways is by volunteering my time and skills at local clinics or community health events. I can also participate in health education programs to raise awareness about important health issues. Additionally, I can contribute to research and advancements in healthcare to improve the overall well-being of my community.
Growing up, my parents always shared their stories on why and how they arrived United States. They arrived in this land with nothing but determination to create a better life for themselves. My father is from El Salvador and my mother is from Dominican Republic. They both left their countries because it wasn’t safe for them anymore.
Leaving behind everything they knew, They left their home country, their families, and their comfort zone, all in pursuit for safety. It was a difficult decision leaving everything behind, but they believed in the opportunities that awaited them in this country. Their story is not just the only one but it also represents the countless stories of immigrants who have come to this country with nothing and have made significant contributions.
As their child, I am forever grateful for the sacrifices they made. Their journey serves as a constant reminder of the importance of hard work, perseverance, and the pursuit of one's dreams. It inspires me to never take opportunities for granted. I am proud to be the child of immigrants who came to the United States with nothing but a dream. Their journey continues to shape my own path, and I am forever grateful for.
Therefore my life has just begun and there are so many reasons to continue my path and contribute into things my parents could never do growing up. I want to accomplish everything and anything they couldn’t, for them. Coming from a hispanic household and living in a community where there are mostly hispanics I want to overcome a lot of immigrants fears and trauma's. Having immigrants parents does come with a con’s, you get treated differently and you don’t have what other people have. Trying my best of making a living out of myself for my parents and to prove to others is my mission.
In Conclusion I would say my biggest inspiration comes from my family, a loving family that came here with nothing and gave me everything they could.
