When I was in high school someone made an ugly post about me on a social media platform that I didn't have because they thought I wouldn't see it. I ended up seeing the post and went to talk with the person who made it. The person who made the post got embarrassed when they found out that I'd seen it, and without a screen to hide behind they wouldn't say it to my face or apologize. This is because social media makes people believe they can say anything to anyone without consequences. My generation is full of people who say nasty things to others to make themselves feel better.
Newton said that every action has an equal and opposite reaction this can be applied to how people interact with each other. But with so many online forums people aren't interacting anymore, they sit in front of a screen for hours talking to people they don't know. Sometimes we forget how to talk to the people that are right next to us. It's sad that most interaction now happens on a screen, people don't just talk anymore.
I believe that social media hurts our social skills because we forget how to interact with the real life. People are so used to using emojis that they forget how to use their emotions. Social media and online forums give us a way to stay in touch with people who are far away, but it also desensitizes us so that we struggle to make meaningful real-world conversations.
