Even as a small child, I wanted to become a nurse and realize my passion for serving and caring for the sick. Pursuing my education and striving to make a difference in my community exemplifies the hard work and work ethic that my parents have instilled in me. I believe, with my lifelong passion for nursing, the compassion and care for minorities, and the opportunity to become a DNP-FNP candidate at the prestigious Weber State University will allow me to make a lasting difference in my community.
Furthermore, as a DNP student, I have the opportunity to complete a project in the community. That is why my DNP project aims to improve the health behaviors of elementary school children. The population in my project receives 100% federal assistance for their school lunches. I hope that with this project, children can improve their health outcomes despite intergenerational poverty.
As a Spanish speaker, I can further reach my Hispanic community and other vulnerable or underserved communities to improve and manage their health. Through this project, I am realizing my dream of helping minorities, such as myself, to improve and advocate for their health.
