Hi, I'm Furqan Mahmood. I am a first-generation-born Pakistani American. I have been in school for my entire life. Ups and downs have made it difficult for me to attend school full-time. My goal in life is always to give back and maybe open up a nursing home for Muslim families. As an EMT ( emergency medical technician), I wouldn't see any Muslim patients having the special care they should receive. I also would like to give back by educating and spending time with every opportunity. I also do podcasts and discuss certain things that I come across, and I hope people will listen and get feedback because we are all students of knowledge.
A bit about my background: my father, a heart patient, is now 77 and cared for with love and family time. He had a heart attack when I was in the 4th grade. From there, I learned about life not being what it seemed. From waking up at 4 am to closing at 10 pm wasn't an easy task. My family and I learned to adapt and tried to make do with what others took for granted. My mother, 68 years old, is one of the best mothers a man can have. Learning about life for a woman who didn't work because of cultural norms was forced to work for the first time. It was a learning experience for us, but we stood firm after all the struggles.
The most important thing of all is life. I am blessed to have such a loving and caring start-up, even when times are hard. I hope to share, help, and give back.

Al-Haj Abdallah R Abdallah Muslim Scholarship
Asalam alaikum, i hope this essay i write reaches everyone well. I Alhundulilah was born and raised as a Muslim. I have been practicing Islam everyday, all the time and i breath Islam. I try my best everyday to be a better muslim in reading a hadith to speaking to the imams at a masjid each friday to see how the prophet would handle a situation.
I am pursing a certification in becoming an aircraft mechanic. This will take up to 2 years inshAllah. I was inspired by a Turkish muslim brother who started his career at my age and he known as a great mechanic. He told me about his struggles and how this is a great job to make a difference in my life and potentially others.
My goal in life does not and will not stop at me becoming an aircraft mechanic. My actual goal in life is to be the best at what I do including me being a future parent inshaAllah, a great husband, and overall a reason for people to see Muslims as the ease of the burden to this world. Give advice with the sunnah and hadith of the prophet pbuh. In all my problems i see Islam has the answers to and the peace of this dunyas problems. I try to be the best student as well as a good son to my elderly parents, co workers or anyone in need. That is one of the reasons why i decoded to become an emt ( emergency medical technician). As you may know emts make close to minimum wage and we do this because saving one life is as if we save humanity.
If i am able to i will build a senior care facility for the muslim elderly with jummah and 5 time prayer option. It is a stretch and far from my life goal. One of the ways i will reach to this goal faster is by live within my means and not spend ostentatiously. I pay school without riba and all my life i have never taken any type of loans because of that. I do not receive much financial aid because i work 40 hours a week. As well as taking care of my parents at home.
Being a muslim means to submit to Allah and no man woman or any of his creations. Being Muslim means to not only pray and but to live and breath to the end of our lives to be better and make it to jannah. That doesn't come by not struggling it means to face whatever to make it in this world by struggling to beat out nafs. Who ever receives this scholarship is whatever Allah wills. Thank you for reading and taking time and considering everyone as a potential receiver. Asalam alaikum and may Allah make getting to your goal be eventful and learn to be better. Ameen
Aircraft Mechanics for Aircraft Mechanics Scholarship
Winner Hello! I am Furqan; I have worked in the airline industry for over a decade. I finally found one of the passionate and excellent work environments I have been searching for. I have worked many jobs, and this year I earned a position in the company. The department works side by side with the Aircraft maintenance department. I find pleasure and joy in fixing things. So I should give it a try.
I spoke to many mechanics and asked why they love their job and if it changed their lives. I have heard many stories, and the one that stuck to me the most is " It was the best move I have ever made, and I did it when I was 30 years old". You might be wondering why? It is because his life was quite similar to mine, and he started school at my age.
After months of research, I found a school focused on the student. The day I was told to try out for the school, I needed to pass the entrance exam. I did very well and exceptionally well on the mechanical aptitude exam. I received an 89%, and I was told this was like 100%, which is difficult to attain. I felt accomplished and ready to apply myself to this program and life choice.
I have worked as an EMT for three years, attended full-time school, and had a job at the airport. I was never exposed to the field till I joined an airline. It is a great decision. I wish to excel in whatever I do and help others like me if I ever encounter anyone.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope I receive this scholarship so some of my financial burdens are relieved and I can focus more on my studies.
