Bio

Hello! My name is Felicia Sanders and I am a rising freshman at Princeton from Central Indiana. My academic passions include biology and public health with an emphasis on public policy. Currently, I am a part of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, which aims to reduce tobacco use among youth. In the future, I hope to work toward greater equality in the healthcare system. The CDC monitors US teen behaviors every two years using the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System. The 2019 results were recently released and there is a reason for concern. Teen risky behaviors are on the rise and one specifically caught my attention. The report shared vaping has more than doubled among US high school students from 2017 to 2019 from 13.2% to 32.7%, respectively. As the most active Youth Taking Down Tobacco trainer in the state of Indiana, I spend countless hours educating my peers and advocating in conjunction with government officials on measures to reduce and eventually eliminate tobacco use among teens. My anti-tobacco story has primarily been using existing resources and information to help educate on the prevalence of teen smoking and the inherent dangers. While I hope to continue my education sharing and working with government officials to take measures limiting the use of tobacco products, I hope to pursue research opportunities to further my goals.
