Bio

Hello! My name is Faith! I am 17, female, and LGBT. I would like to take a 4-year degree with zoology as my major. I am working towards being a zoologist one day. My passions include working with animals and learning about them in their natural environments. I am a hard worker, a team player, and I love to educate others about the things I love. A scholarship would help me achieve my goal to go to an in-person college one day. Further developing my education in the field of zoology. Which in turn will hopefully land me a job in wildlife biology or zookeeping.

With my experience on bold.org and many other scholarships that I have found, I have learned many tips and tricks just by putting my feet in the water and exploring beyond my comfort zone. Firstly, I have learned to apply for scholarships that are very specific to you, either in your field of study, your race, orientation, or gender. I am a white female LGBTIA+ student who is taking these scholarships to my advantage. I want to get a scholarship so my family does not have to struggle when sending me to college one day. In a low-income household, it has been very hard for me and my family to pay the bills. I want to be the first of my family to get into college and truly prove to everyone around me that I can be successful, even if my family's history isn't. I am looking for scholarships that apply to high schoolers, seniors, women, LGBTQIA+, and zoologists. Secondly, I could make a positive impact on the world through my education by devoting my strong, growing passion for animals and wildlife all across the world with my research. My passion in life is learning the wide variety of animal behaviors and characteristics and developing research on endangered species that require human assistance to stay alive. My passion has only grown as I've grown older. I feel a genuine connection in the wilds, the animals and I relate to one another in more ways than I can describe. We've had the world against us, yet we thrive beyond what others believe. I have loved animals since I was young, and I want to dedicate my intellect to benefiting the species that need research put into them. Lastly, I would educate others on the importance of our animals to our ecosystems. Spreading my knowledge to those who aren't as fortunate to know how wonderful wildlife can be. Talking to others about animals is something I could effortlessly do, it makes me happy to teach others things they may not have known. Spreading my love for wildlife to people across the globe is my ultimate goal. In conclusion, I hope to win many scholarships. I will entirely use the money to go towards my zoology career, and I have learned a lot from experimenting and applying the past week. To get into college and impress my family would be the greatest thing that could ever happen to me. In addition, My dedication and passion for wildlife are where I feel at home. With my STEM education, I could pursue my lifelong dream of working with animals, and reach farther than others would when it comes to the destiny of our beloved creatures, spreading education to people everywhere and embracing love for our marvelous creatures.
    Pet Lover Scholarship
I have been lucky enough to own a pet that not many people have, I was surprised one day when my father brought home two small leopard geckos. Being 4 at the time, I was beyond excited about having new family members in our household, little did I know, these lizards would become my best friends, and change my life forever. Firstly, my lizards have become my entire center of attention. They are named Rex and Zoe. They are both 13 years old. They have huge enclosures and are spoiled with treats and toys and enrichment. I love these lizards more than anything. They are adorable, friendly, cuddly, and curious. Most people pick a dog or a cat to have as a pet, but my family is different. We love all kinds of animals, and we chose a reptile to be different than the rest. It was the greatest decision ever. I do want to have a dog and cat when I move out, but having lizards all around me growing up has made me love them more than others would. Their impact on my life is one of the many reasons why I want to be a zoologist. All animals are so interesting and special to me, and my lizards have proven just that. Animals all have different personalities, Rex is curious, friendly, and loves to explore no matter where he is. Zoe is more shy, calm, and likes to chill out in one spot. Secondly, I love pets for thousands of reasons! Animals have been my main focus ever since I could remember. I never once remember myself being afraid of animals, even the spiders on my walls I found interesting. I love all the animals that people think are creepy or scary. I am used to having exotic pets in my house, and I am very appreciative that I grew up with such wonderful creatures. I am devoting my life to zoology, which will include pets too! I want to have pets of my own someday, many to be exact. I will do piles upon piles of research to ensure each animal is taken care of correctly by me. Pets bring joy to thousands every day, and I am no different. I truly want to have so many animal friends, both at home and at the workplace. Pets and animals are truly amazing, and I love them more than anything. Lastly, I could make a positive impact on the world through my education by devoting my strong, growing passion for animals and wildlife all across the world with my research. My passion in life is learning the wide variety of animal behaviors and characteristics and developing research on endangered species that require human assistance to stay alive. My passion has only grown as I've grown older. I feel a genuine connection in the wilds, the animals and I relate to one another in more ways than I can describe. Talking to others about animals is something I could effortlessly do, it makes me happy to teach others things they may not have known. Spreading my love for wildlife to people across the globe is my ultimate goal. In conclusion, my lizards are my best friends and I wouldn't trade them for the world. They made me obsessed with reptiles and exotic pets, and I want to keep reptiles and other pets that not many would have for the rest of my life. My dedication and passion for wildlife are where I feel at home. With my education, I could pursue my lifelong dream of working with animals and reach farther than others would when it comes to the destiny of our beloved creatures, spreading education to people everywhere and embracing love for our marvelous creatures.

    Brian J Boley Memorial Scholarship
I have not been diagnosed with mental illness yet, but it has plagued me my whole life. Firstly, throughout my middle school years, I was bullied almost every day, which lead me to be terrified of going to school. I felt like I wasn't normal, and that no one could truly like me for who I was. I spent the next years trying so hard to fit in, and whenever it would fail it spiraled into a darker, deeper sadness that I just could not get over by myself. I used music as a coping mechanism, and my favorite band, AJR, kept me alive during my first year of high school. I had lost all my friends due to a huge fight, I was alone and had no one by my side. This drove me to want to commit. But their music brought me joy in such a dark time I am forever thankful it could be the one thing that helped me hold on. Secondly, losing friends is the hardest thing I have overcome, I have lost countless friends and it has destroyed my mental health. I always used to think I was the scum of the earth because I have lost so many friends, both online and not. I believed it was something I was doing wrong. Which destroyed me. I've only begun to cope with this only after I spoke with therapists online, even though the chats were a one-time thing, I still felt validated for things I thought were evil. With the help of my family recently and the aid my new friends, girlfriend, and music give me. I can start to get on the path of recovery. Lastly, I cannot figure out what is exactly wrong with me, but I know I am not like the rest. I get overstimulated easily or get thrown into depressive episodes for weeks at a time. I've begun going to therapy recently, and truly it has helped me overcome my confusion and worries. I am still in therapy, but I feel like a better person just because I have gone. I am aiming to hopefully get diagnosed one day, either with depression or ADHD. Battling against your own mind is one of the hardest things a teenager or young adult could ever face. In conclusion. I truly sympathize with those who are overcoming such a hard internal battle. You are heard and you are loved. Mental illness is no joke, and I want to be there for those who are struggling through it. We all are in this fight together, and I wish everyone the best.

Talking to others about animals is something I could effortlessly do, it makes me happy to teach others things they may not have known. Spreading my love for wildlife to people across the globe is my ultimate goal. Diversity in the workplace is very important to me, while I am white, I entirely want to be surrounded by people who are not white or straight. I am LGBTQIA+ myself, and having co-workers who are also part of the community brings me a sense of peace. I do not have to fear of them judging me for who I love, as they also can relate to me in one way or another. I prefer working with minority groups. Women, LGBT, BIPOC people are much nicer to work with anyway. I love learning about cultures of other nationalities, and I want to be surrounded by all kinds of people, no matter their race. My girlfriend is black and asian, having a workplace with people like her in it is very important to me, so she can have people like her around her in day-to-day life. Diversity is so important in many different ways, and I entirely want to have all kinds of people come in and out of my workplace. No workplace should be entirely white men. We have had enough of that in the past. It is time for a new age that includes everyone, no matter their race or sexual orientation. To summarize, I entirely need diversity in my workplace as it makes me feel much more comfortable and accepted. Being LGBTQIA+ I entirely need to have a diverse, broad setting in my workplace to function properly. My dedication and passion for wildlife are where I feel at home. With my STEM education, I could pursue my lifelong dream of working with animals, and reach farther than others would when it comes to the destiny of our beloved creatures, spreading education to people everywhere and embracing love for our marvelous creatures.

I want to see a change in animal rights for our marvelous creatures we share the world with. There are so many cruel practices that still continue to this day, such as puppy mills, slaughter houses, dairy industries, animal testing, wet markets, pet trades, and allowing your cat to be outdoors. I want to put an end to all of these practices in my lifetime, and become a devoted wildlife biologist. I want to make a change in the world for animals as much as I possibly can. They mean the world to me, I have always loved animals ever since I was young, and it breaks my heart how cruel the world can be. Animals do not have a voice to fight back, so I will be their voice till the very end. I plan to dedicate my entire life to working with animals and protecting them from the perils of human activity. These experiences have changed me into who I am and motivated me to keep going forward in the advancement of my zoology career. While I plan to work with wild animals, I always will try to work with domesticated ones too, I love all animals, and volunteering with them has been one of the best things I have ever done. Vegan Teens Are The Future Scholarship
I became vegan because of my intense, passionate love for animals. I am an animal rights activist and I am disgusted with how the commercial industries treat their livestock. It is abuse to slaughter and kills animals for human gain. Eating meat is a sin against the livelihood of animals and we need to find better alternatives for daily consumption. Veganism is important to me because of how we are saving animals that are being mistreated every day, if we all power together to all go vegan, we can destroy the slaughter and dairy industries. No person should be allowed to have such a vile job that makes thousands of animals suffer every day. All the commercial industries that support these should be destroyed and never be spoken of again. I could make a positive impact on veganism through my education by devoting my strong, growing passion for animals and wildlife all across the world with my research. My passion in life is learning the wide variety of animal behaviors and characteristics and developing research on endangered species that require human assistance to stay alive. Alexis Potts Passion Project Scholarship
My passion has impacted me in my life countless times. From going out and exploring, to saving animals in need. My passion for wildlife has entirely shaped who I am. All I wanted to learn about was animals in school, and yet every science class I took never truly touched what I wanted to look into more. I remember reading through a textbook of our class 7th grade science class, skipping to the section filled with pictures of great herons and red-eyed tree frogs, and reading the whole chapter inside out. I knew we weren't going to touch this in class, at least not the way I would have wanted, so I took the crumbs I could get whenever the opportunity came. Even when it was something so little, like a poster of different species of turtles in the California area. Animals truly mean the world to me in more ways than one. I could make a positive impact on the world through my education by devoting my strong, growing passion for animals and wildlife all across the world with my research. My passion in life is learning the wide variety of animal behaviors and characteristics and developing research on endangered species that require human assistance to stay alive. A Dog Changed My Life Scholarship
Animals have changed my life in many ways. I never had a dog myself, but they are one of my favorite animals to ever exist. Whenever I would go to my friend's houses, they always had a dog. Somehow, each of these animals would gravitate toward me more than their own owners. I would pay more attention to the dog than the person I was supposed to be hanging out with. Dogs make me happier, I intend to work at an animal shelter to help dogs get adopted. I entirely support adopting, not shopping. There are so many dogs in the shelter that need homes, especially elder ones that often get overlooked. Dogs are some of the greatest animals to ever exist, and I hope to own many when I move out and live on my own someday. I research highly into the care of animals, so no dog I would own would be neglected. These adorable creatures manage to make many people smile throughout their short lives, and I entirely believe we are better with these companions. I would love to impact the world by devoting my strong, growing passion for animals and wildlife all across the world with my research. My passion in life is learning the wide variety of animal behaviors and characteristics and developing research on endangered species that require human assistance to stay alive. My passion has only grown as I've grown older. I feel a genuine connection in the wilds, the animals and I relate to one another in more ways than I can describe. My name is Faith Rockwell, I am a female student and a part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Throughout my life, I have been an extremely loving, positive, and helpful person in my community. I grew up in Newbury Park, California, and recently moved to Bend, Oregon a year ago. I am a social, friendly person and I love to be a part of my community, speaking with ones who have a sense of knowledge and political interests that are the same as mine. I love to educate others on things that they might not have known and help others in need. However, my biggest goal in life is to become a zoologist. Animals have been my passion ever since I could remember, and I have been dreaming of the day I get my career in motion as a fully-fledged wildlife biologist. I could make a positive impact on the world through my education by devoting my strong, growing passion for animals and wildlife all across the world with my research. Students for Animal Advocacy Scholarship
Firstly, my passion in life is learning the wide variety of animal behaviors and characteristics and developing research on endangered species that require human assistance to stay alive. When I was little, my parents always tell me a story about me reaching out and trying to communicate with seagulls nearby. I was maybe 5 months old. I believe I was born to be with animals. I intend to apply to an in-person college and major in Zoology with a 4-year degree. Secondly, I would educate others on the importance of our animals to our ecosystems. Spreading my knowledge to those who aren't as fortunate to know how wonderful wildlife can be. Talking to others about animals is something I could effortlessly do, it makes me happy to teach others things they may not have known. I love people's reactions when I tell them an animal fact they didn't know. I am an extreme advocate for animals given a negative outlook within society. Such as spiders, sharks, snakes, and anything similar. Those animals I want to protect with my life, and teach others how beneficial they are to our ecosystems. Spreading my love for wildlife to people across the globe is my ultimate goal. Finally, I am extremely passionate about animal advocacy for every animal out there. No matter if it's a shark or a pitbull, every animal is important to me. They all deserve love and protection, and I want to dedicate my entire life to educating others on how important it is to protect our creatures. Once they're gone they're gone. Even with domesticated animals, no creature deserves to be shoved in a little cage and performed experiments on, or be forced to have countless litters for profit. The world can be so cruel and insufferable towards our animals. I would do everything in my power to prevent these situations from occurring. It breaks my heart that people can be so cruel to creatures who have done nothing wrong. I will be their voice when no one else will. My goal in life is to research, save, and protect animals no matter what the world throws against me. I advocate for animal rights and protection every day of my life.
Show your Mettle - Women in STEM Scholarship
Firstly, I am pursuing a degree in STEM with my dedication to zoology. By devoting my strong, growing passion for animals and wildlife all across the world with my research, I could create a new world for many species that are dwindling due to human activity. My passion in life is learning the wide variety of animal behaviors and characteristics and developing research on endangered species that require human assistance to stay alive. I feel a genuine connection in the wilds, the animals and I relate to one another in more ways than I can describe. We've had the world against us, yet we thrive beyond what others believe. I have loved animals since I was young, and I want to dedicate my intellect to benefiting the species that need research put into them. In addition, I would educate others on the importance of our animals to our ecosystems. Spreading my knowledge to those who aren't as fortunate to know how wonderful wildlife can be. Talking to others about animals is something I could effortlessly do, it makes me happy to teach others things they may not have known. Spreading my love for wildlife to people across the globe is my ultimate goal. Secondly, the obstacles I may face along the way could easily be money costs and discrimination. As a child who's grown up with bullying throughout my middle school years, I have learned very severely that I am different. And others do not like that I'm different. Being LGBT does not help in this society, as I am mocked and belittled for who I love. The flooding comments on social media from homophobic people truly destroy my mental health, and if nothing changes to give us LGBT people rights, I will still be struggling immensely. In addition, in speech classes, where I'd dedicate my speeches to the cruelty of animal testing, or how zoos can be a huge benefit to the wildlife population. Others would laugh or mock my passion, finding it ridiculous I felt so emotionally attached to even one small rabbit. This has always been an obstacle I want to educate others on how wonderful animals can be and how we should never put them in harm's way, I just hope everyone could listen. Lastly, money costs are another huge obstacle along the way. I never grew up in a household where money wasn't an issue, we were living pay check to pay check from my parent's small business. Living in California was just too expensive, and trying to support a household of 4 wasn't easy. My dad sacrificed many things he loved to keep me, my brother, and my mother alive and well. Insurance by the state saved us from hefty medical bills, like my scoliosis surgery. To this day we still aren't smooth sailing when it comes to money, my paychecks from my job go towards the groceries. With all of that going on, there is no money left over I can use towards my college career. I desperately need to get into college for my passion to truly come true, which is why I am applying for scholarships and grants. To summarize, I may face challenging obstacles as a female LGBT student with a low-income family. My dedication and passion for wildlife are where I feel at home. With my STEM education, I could pursue my lifelong dream of working with animals, and reach farther than others would when it comes to the destiny of our beloved creatures, spreading education to people everywhere and embracing love for our marvelous creatures.
    Minority/Women in STEM Scholarship
When the world focuses on everything but the thing you want to pursue, it feels like you'll never make it doing the thing you love most. Sounds pretty awful, right? Well it's the reality I am living in, my name is Faith Rockwell. My goal in life is to become a zoologist. Firstly, I always struggled when it came to my interest in schooling. All I wanted to learn about was animals, and yet every science class I took never truly touched what I wanted to look into more. Secondly, within the public schooling system, I was bullied over my personality and interests. I am not an average person and I often differ from the normal stereotypes. I didn't fit in with kids my age, I felt more connected to the teachers as they held the range of maturity I already possessed. People didn't get along with me the way they did with others, I was nerdy and hyperactive, I talked way too fast, and didn't understand a lot of social cues. Although my grades were higher than average, and often I was told how smart I was by family members. My peers thought otherwise about me, this type of berating made me question myself and who I was. Was I truly that smart? Or was I being lied to? Lastly, I could make a positive impact on the world through my STEM education by devoting my strong, growing passion for animals and wildlife all across the world with my research. To summarize, I may not have had the most wonderful experience in schooling. I was different from the rest, and this showed brighter as I grew up. But that's okay. My dedication and passion for wildlife are where I feel at home. With my STEM education, I could pursue my lifelong dream of working with animals, and reach farther than others would when it comes to the destiny of our beloved creatures, spreading education to people everywhere and embracing love for our marvelous creatures.
