Veterans & Family Scholarship
My father was an active duty Marine from 1982-1987. Once a Marine always a Marine. SemperFi. My Great-grandfather was a receiver of the Purple Heart in WW2. I am truly honoured to have two selfless men in my family who made sure I have a bright future ahead of me.
My name is Erich I am a sophomore at High Point University. I plan on making a difference in this world. This scholarship will help me complete my education so I can help future generations.
My favorite pastime is playing the Saxophone. I am the first chair in my woodwind band at High Point University. I am also learning to play the Drums, Piano and Guitar.
My dream is to open a music studio for the next generation. The studio will be a safe place for young kids to come together and learn about music. I will teach the correct way to play many different instruments. My hope is for the youth of America to learn the joys of music as well as the fun of coming together as a band.
I have been playing the Saxophone for 8 years in both Woodwind and Jazz Band. The joy and fulfilment from playing in both bands is indescribable. My dream is to show future generations how incredible having music as a part of your life can be. I hope to show the students how music can bring people from all different walks of life together.
I am a Business Entrepreneurship major and a Music minor at High Point University. Once I complete my Masters at High Point I plan on opening my music school. I will use my education in Entrepreneurship together with my education in Music to start what I hope to be a very successful music school across the country.
In this day and age, our younger generation needs a safe place to hang out with their friends and have fun together. I dont see a better place than a school where they can come together and create the art of music. I will have an array of musical instruments from strings to horns as well as keyboards and pianos. The students will be able to come to the studio as often as they would like and learn any instrument they choose. My hope is they will find the joy in music that I have and learn to play many different instruments as well as many different types of music.
If I am chosen for this scholarship I will be truly grateful. I believe I will be able to pay it forward for years to come. Creating jobs for other music lovers as well as showing the next generation how exciting music can be.

My name is Erich Zahn. I am majoring in Business Entrepreneurship with a minor in Music. I am excited to open my own music school one day. I plan to have a place where kids can learn all aspects of music. My dream is to have a safe place for the next generation to come and jam with friends. The kids will be able to learn how to play many different instruments while also learning how to play together as a band.
I plan to have the kids perform in different venues both inside and outside. I hope to help the music industry grow. I don't see very many new bands or individual artists taking the world by storm anymore. Where are today's Rod Stewarts OR Billy Joels? I don't see any bands that would be able to fill places like Madison Square Garden. We need more bands like Chicago or Guns and Roses. I hope to help kids that have dreams to reach for the stars like these famous performers did reach their full capacity for their talents.
I have been playing Saxophone for 7 years. I plan to take my love for music and my Entrepreneurship skills and blend them together to become a successful business owner. While doing so I will give young kids a safe place to spend time creating a lifetime of memories and friendships.
I was inspired to pursue this path because of my own experiences. I was able to join bands in middle school and high school. However, there is nothing outside of school. There is no place for kids to go to hang out and just play music. In school we have to play the songs the teachers and the curriculum dictate to us. If we had a place to go outside of school we would be able to play the music we like to play. We could learn to play the music of our favorite artists or challenge ourselves to learn something we have never heard before.
Once my business gets off the ground I also hope to help throughout the community. My idea is to help low-income children be able to come to my music school. I will offer lower monthly tuition based on household income. If needed I will also offer a free service to households that simply can't afford for their children to join the music school. It is more important for these children to have a safe place to spend time with their peers.
I hope to one day be a positive influence in my community and in the lives of young musicians. Thank you for considering me for this scholarship and for helping my dreams become a reality.

Michael J. Burns Military Children Scholarship
I grew up as a son to a Marine! I always heard key phrases growing up. “Once a Marine Always a Marine!” “ Do a job big or small do it right or not at all!” “ If you can hoot with the owls you better be able to sore with the eagles .” To name a few.
Hearing these phrases all of my life has helped me push myself to the best of my abilities. If I didn’t do my job right big or small I would not be where I am today. I was honored to be excepted to High Point University as part of the Class of 2026.
With my Marine guiding me I was able to push myself and learn 3 years of saxophone in 8 weeks. I have since been playing for 7 years.
As a freshman in college I have earned the distinct honor of being first chair for both alto and tenor saxophone. I will be playing for the jazz band, woodwind band as well as marching band representing High Point University.
With the work ethics I learned in my early years from my dad I plan on opening my own business teaching future generations about the love of music will showing them how to become a stronger well rounded individual who can strive to make there musical dreams come true.
My Marine Corp dad also taught me the true love of our country. I always thank any veteran who crosses my path in life for my freedom to be able to make my dreams come true.
The motto of my College is “ God Family Country” I have grown up by those words and will live my life by those words. Having a veteran show me first hand how important our country is molded me into the person I am today.
Once I graduate from college with a degree in business entrepreneurship and a minor in music I plan on opening my own music school. The school will be a fun and safe place for the next generation to explore their love of music as well as expand their musical talents. As my dad taught me “ Do the job big or small do it right or not at all” I hope to share this with future students while they jam to their favorite songs together.
Thank you for considering me for this Scholarship. It will go a long way in helping me reach my future goals.

I am the son of a Marine corps veteran. My dad was active duty from 1983-1987. All my life I grew up hearing "Do a job big or small do it right or not at all". My dad has instilled many of the values in me that were instilled in him during his time in the military. I have always done my best and pushed myself to succeed in school because of the stories he has told me about pushing himself to and past his limits during his four years. I have also grown up with a true and complete love for my country. I hope to do great things in the future to help our country grow and prosper.
Thank you for considering me for this scholarship. It will go a long way in helping my college dreams come true.

My name is Erich, I am graduating this June. I have committed to High Point University NC. I will be playing saxophone in the Marching band. I am looking forward to this next chapter. We will be marching down Main Street in Disney this fall.
I honestly don’t understand why people drink and drive. I have been a junior fire fighter for the past four years completing over 1000 hours of community service for my home town. The worst accident we had during my time was involving a drunk driver. The car he hit was broken down on the side of the road. Inside was a mother and her children. The mother did not survive. The young children now get to grow up without the love of their mom. I myself will not drink or do drugs because of this horrible accident.
Thank you for considering me for this scholarship. It will go a long way in helping my future dreams come true
