Bio

While at MD Anderson, I face a computer screen displaying the statistics of over 260,000 early stage breast cancer patients from the past few decades. I alternate between a window of my SAS code and the SEER database manual, browsing through the multitude of patient descriptors. During my time there, I became fascinated by the world of health services research, where doctors look beyond simple survival ratios and observe medical disparities resulting from socioeconomic background, stigmatization, and varying levels of patient informedness. Meanwhile, Camp CAMP, an outdoor summer camp for special needs individuals, gave me a more humanistic perspective of medicine. During Autism Week, I accompanied one CAMPer in pasting various newspaper car advertisements on a single sheet of green paper. The same night, I strolled around the campgrounds ten times with another CAMPer who couldn’t fall asleep. While I couldn’t understand what exactly they were thinking, those moments were well-spent as I sensed they were happy. My dream is to become a medical doctor. As a physician, I believe I can synthesize these aspects of medicine, improving the lives of others both indirectly through medical research and directly through work in the hospital or clinic. I've been accepted for Brown University's Class of 2024, where I am determined to go further and explore beyond my roots in the Texas. As a result, I hope to earn scholarship money to support my educational and lifelong pursuits in the direction of medicine.
