Hi! My name is Esther Dela Cruz and I am a high school senior at Empire Springs Charter School. My long-term goal is to become a nurse practitioner. I believe that my passion for nursing originated from my life-long experience of caring for my disabled mother. To prepare for the rigors of nursing school, I am not hesitant to study diligently and work hard. To list a few accomplishments, I successfully earned an SAT score of 1510, I have been a National Honor Society member for three years, and I have maintained a weighted GPA of 4.43. I'm most proud to say that I've completed almost fifty college units at two community colleges, all while acing high school courses as well. After I graduate high school, I would like to become a pre-nursing student in Fall 2025. Coming from a low-income family, a nursing education is currently out of reach. If given the honor of receiving a scholarship, I will use these funds to the best of my ability, entering the nursing field for the betterment of those around me. Thank you for reading my bio!

Giving back to my community is one of the most defining factors of my character. Either as a member of the National Honor Society, or just as someone who loves to help others, I have chosen to use the talents that God has given me to care for my community.
But first, who is my community?
My community extends beyond those in my circle. Every year during Christmas time, my family and I prepare a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child. Last year, we volunteered to give three shoe boxes through Operation Christmas Child. Filled with games, toiletries, clothes, and other goodies, these three shoe boxes were sent to three teenage boys in the Philippines. This Christmas, my family and I volunteered to fill another two shoe boxes.
My community extends to those who are acquainted with me. Three years ago, I was a private tutor to a first grade non-reader student. Before I began, my student did not even know what a letter or a number was. However, through biweekly virtual meetings, I taught my student how to spell, write, and read. Within a year, her reading and spelling improved from pre-kindergarten to second-grade level!
My community extends to those in my church. I have volunteered as a vocalist in the worship team, a website designer in the media team, a server in the catering team, and many more. With my youth group, I have also volunteered to clean the houses of the elderly in my church.
My community extends to those who I can help with my various talents. For several years now, I have offered designing services to others. This has consisted of redesigning my church’s website, building websites for three small businesses, designing greeting cards for family, editing promotional videos for a local company, and much more.
My community extends to those I love most, my family. Fourteen years ago, my mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, a neurological disease that devastatingly restricts her mobility. Since I was a child, I was given responsibilities that are unaccustomed to most children. As my mother’s disease gradually worsened, my tasks also became more time-consuming and difficult. Now, they consist of making meals, keeping up the house, and physically caring for my mother in a variety of ways. Although this community service has been the most challenging and time-consuming, it has also been the sweetest and most rewarding.
As a member of the National Honor Society, I strive to offer community service to all those around me. My ultimate goal is to share kindness, a positive influence, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth-- even if this means just caring for my mother within the home. And oh, how rewarding and satisfying it is to love someone other than myself!
As someone who cares deeply about others, I have realized that my heart is in the nursing field. For this reason, I have chosen to major in STEM as a pre-nursing student, after I graduate high school. Coming from a low-income family, a nursing education currently seems out of reach. However, with this scholarship, I hope to become an excellent nurse and continue giving back to my community.
Eleven Scholarship
In my life, I have been met with all kinds of adversities. However, I have learned to take every failure as a learning experience, take every hardship as a season of refinement, and take every challenge as an opportunity to become a better person.
My ultimate aspiration is to become a nurse practitioner. Unlike most nurses, my interest in the nursing field developed much earlier in life. Fourteen years ago, my mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, a neurological disease that devastatingly restricts her mobility. As a child who grew up with a disabled mother, everyday I witnessed the destruction that diseases continually rack upon humanity. As I grew older, I began to intimately care for my mother every day. Unexpectedly to those around me, I quickly fell in love with caring for my mother. Once I fully developed my great desire to help those in need, I realized that my heart was in the nursing field.
As if Parkinson's wasn't bad enough, my care and love for my mother was challenged last year when my mother was diagnosed with cancer. As my mom pressed on through various treatments, my family and I rode a roller coaster of emotional turmoil. In spite of the physically and emotionally-demanding labor, I began to shift my focus from the bad to the good. Instead of grieving over cancer, I began to truly appreciate life. As I savored every moment we spent together, I realized that there was nothing that I would not do for my mother. Through this difficult experience, I was able to further confirm my passion to become a nurse.
To attain a nursing education, I am not hesitant to leave my comfort zone, study diligently, and work hard. Such diligence will not begin in college, but has already begun in my past years of school. To give a few examples, this past Spring I attained an SAT score of 1510. I have completed almost fifty college semester units through dual enrollment. I have volunteered for community service as a diligent participant in the National Honor Society for three years. Having aced every high school and college course, I have maintained a weighted GPA of 4.43. Ultimately, my goal is to honor Jesus with the mind and desires He has given me.
For this reason, I have chosen to become a pre-nursing student after high school graduation. Coming from a low-income family, a nursing education currently seems out of reach. However, with this scholarship, I hope to attain a debt-free education and ultimately become a nurse practitioner. I would greatly appreciate your kind consideration of my application. If given the honor of receiving this scholarship, I assure you that I will use these funds to the best of my ability, with the intention of becoming an excellent nurse practitioner.

I believe that my life-long interest in the sciences will help me transition into an education in nursing.

You could say that I am your typical high school girl. In my spare time, I love to read books, graphic design, sing, cook, and spend time with my friends and family. Almost every week, I volunteer community service as a National Honor Society member. However, my life story is not like that of any high school girl.
I believe that my life story extends back before my own birth, and begins with my parents’ history. Both Asian immigrants, my parents persevered through many hardships before immigrating to the United States. At four years old, my mother and her family escaped from Vietnam during the Vietnam War. After perils on the sea and years of waiting, my mother and her family finally found refuge in the United States. At six years old, my father and his family moved from the Philippines to Nigeria, where they eventually immigrated to the United States. Both Asian immigrants, my parents worked hard to achieve the American Dream and gain a good education. My parents met at UCLA, as graduate students in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics.
With life stories riddled with hard work and academic excellence, my parents have always encouraged me to work hard, study diligently, and pursue academic excellence. With all thanks to Jesus, my parents' investments have truly paid off through my academic achievements. To give a few examples, this past Spring I successfully earned an SAT score of 1510. I have completed more than forty college credits through dual enrollment at two community colleges. I have been a diligent participant in the National Honor Society for three years, volunteering service to my local community. Women in STEM Scholarship
STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. To me, it’s the “S” that matters the most. Since I can remember, science has always been a part of my life.
I believe that my passion for STEM originated from my parents, who both obtained graduate degrees in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics from UCLA. From a young age, I was quickly immersed in my own “scientific community”. Because of my childhood fascination with science, I have sought to dive deeper through research, training, and my career aspirations.
First, I am a laboratory assistant with a local research group. The purpose of our research group is to develop, test, and clinically prove our newly-found therapeutic for Parkinson’s Disease. Every week, I record the gait of healthy and diseased mice while they walk on a rotorod, which is a rotating horizontal rod. Our team then analyzes my recorded videos and examines the mice for Parkinson’s Disease symptoms. For my contribution, I have been granted co-authorship on a research paper which describes our work on finding a cure for Parkinson’s Disease.
Second, to further familiarize myself with pharmaceutical drugs, I am currently enrolled in an intensive pharmacy technician training program. In this program, I am memorizing the top 200 drugs, their brand names, generic names, classes, side effects, and drug interactions. Additionally, I am studying administration routes, the process of prescriptions, and the role of a pharmacy technician.
Third, I look forward to centering my entire career around science. Because of my lifelong fascination with science, I have decided to pursue a career in the medical field. As a nurse, I will be participating in the clinical end of science, knowing that every treatment is the result of many scientists’ work and discoveries.
To attain a nursing education, I have not been hesitant to leave my comfort zone, study diligently, and work hard. To give a few examples, this past Spring I attained an SAT score of 1510. My mother is one of the greatest heroes in my life. Of all the people I know, she has faced the most struggles and hardships in her life. However, in spite of everything she has gone through, she remains the brightest and strongest woman I know. Because of her, I am motivated to keep going. Because of her, I am motivated to pursue a nursing career. Because of her, I am motivated to trust in Jesus through whatever may befall me.
In 2008, my mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. A neurological disease which gradually worsens over the years, Parkinson's Disease plagues its victims with rigidity and tremors, stripping away their ability to move. Being a child who grew up with a disabled mother, I learned to take care of my mother every day. However, in spite of its difficulties, I didn't see caring for my mother as a burden or a frustrating task. Instead, I saw my caregiving role as an opportunity to express my love to my mother. To express that even the most debilitating disease won't ever separate us.
As if Parkinson's wasn't bad enough, my care and love for my mother was challenged last year when my mother was diagnosed with cancer. As my mom pressed on through various treatments, my family and I rode a roller coaster of emotional turmoil. In spite of my mother's struggles, she has always poured her entire self into my character, my education, and my overall person. From kindergarten to eighth grade, I was entirely home schooled by my mother. My mother has always encouraged me to work hard, study diligently, and pursue academic excellence. With all thanks to Jesus, my mother's investments have truly paid off through my academic achievements. To give a few examples, this past Spring I successfully earned an SAT score of 1510. If given the honor of receiving this scholarship, I assure you that I will use these funds to the best of my ability, with the intention of becoming an excellent nurse practitioner.
Pierson Family Scholarship for U.S. Studies
I have completed almost forty college credits through dual enrollment at two community colleges. I have been a diligent participant in the National Honor Society for three years, volunteering service to my local community. Having aced every high school and college course, I have maintained a weighted GPA of 4.43. Throughout my academic years, I have always striven to work hard, excel academically, and do my very best.
My parents’ life stories also inspired my career choice. Fourteen years ago, my mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, a worsening disease that plagues its victims with rigidity and tremors. As a child who grew up with a disabled mother, everyday I witnessed the destruction that diseases continually rack upon humanity. However, by caring for my mother everyday, I eventually realized that my heart was in the nursing field.
In addition to my mother's disability, I believe that my parents' scientific background also contributed to my nursing aspiration. Immersed in my own “scientific community”, I have always been intrigued by the mechanisms of the human body, the development of therapeutics, and our God-given ability to medically aid others.
For these reasons, I have chosen to major in STEM as a pre-nursing student, after I graduate high school. Coming from a low-income family, a nursing education currently seems out of reach. However, with this scholarship, I hope to attain a debt-free education and ultimately become a nurse practitioner. I would greatly appreciate your kind consideration of my application. Overcoming Adversity - Jack Terry Memorial Scholarship

Innovators of Color in STEM Scholarship

Sandra West ALS Foundation Scholarship
My mother is one of the greatest heroes in my life. Of all the people I know, she has faced the most struggles and hardships in her life. However, in spite of everything she has gone through, she remains the brightest and strongest woman I know. Because of her, I am motivated to keep going. Because of her, I am motivated to pursue a nursing career. Because of her, I am motivated to trust in Jesus through whatever may befall me.
In 2008, my mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, which is symptomatically and neurologically similar to ALS.
In spite of the physically and emotionally-demanding labor, I found that I continued to enjoy caring for my mother. From my mother's bout with cancer, I began to truly appreciate life. As I savored every moment we spent together, I realized that there was nothing that I would not do for her.
Harriett Russell Carr Memorial Scholarship
My ultimate goal is to share kindness, a positive influence, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth-- even if this means caring for my mother within the home.

I have completed almost fifty college semester units through dual enrollment. I have been a diligent participant in the National Honor Society for three years. Having aced every high school and college course, I have maintained a weighted GPA of 4.45. Ultimately, my goal is to honor Jesus with the mind and desires He has given me.
For this reason, I have chosen to major in STEM as a pre-nursing student, after I graduate high school. Coming from a low-income family, a nursing education currently seems out of reach.
Kyla Jo Burridge Memorial Scholarship for Brain Cancer Awareness and Support
In spite of the physically and emotionally-demanding labor, I found that I continued to enjoy caring for my mother. From my mother's bout with cancer, I began to truly appreciate life. As I savored every moment we spent together, I realized that there was nothing that I would not do for her.
I have completed almost forty college credits through dual enrollment at two community colleges. I have been a diligent participant in the National Honor Society for three years, volunteering service to my local community. Having aced every high school and college course, I have maintained a weighted GPA of 4.45. Throughout my academic years, I have always striven to work hard, excel academically, and do my very best.
If given the honor of receiving this scholarship, I assure you that I will use these funds to the best of my ability, with the intention of becoming an excellent nurse practitioner. And in my future career, I will forever remember and honor my mother's tremendous investments in my life.
Maggie's Way- International Woman’s Scholarship
Having aced every high school and college course, I have maintained a weighted GPA of 4.45. Throughout my academic years, I have always striven to work hard, excel academically, and do my very best.
TLau "Love Fiercely" Scholarship
My ultimate goal is to share kindness, a positive influence, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth-- even if this means caring for my mother within the home.
My ultimate aspiration is to become a nurse practitioner. Unlike most nurses, my interest in the nursing field developed much earlier in life. Graduates from UCLA, my parents both obtained graduate degrees in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics. Immersed in my own “scientific community”, I became intrigued by the mechanisms of the human body, and the development of therapeutics. I believe that my life-long interest in the sciences will help me transition into an education in nursing.
As a child, I knew that my dream to become a nurse would entail much hard work and perseverance. Dr. Michal Lomask Memorial Scholarship
Before I begin this essay, I would first like to extend my condolences toward the friends and family of Dr. Michal Lomask. As someone who deeply loves both science and education, I can deeply resonate with the grievous loss of Dr. Lomask. If given the honor of receiving this scholarship, I will forever cherish Dr. Lomask's legacy as I pursue my own education and career.

For these reasons, I have chosen to major in STEM at California Baptist University as a pre-nursing student. Coming from a low-income family, a nursing education at a four-year private university currently seems out of reach.

My ultimate aspiration is to become a nurse practitioner. Unlike most nurses, my interest in the nursing field developed much earlier in life. Fourteen years ago, my mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Instead, I quickly fell in love with caring for my mother. Once I fully developed my great desire to help those in need, I realized that my heart was in the nursing field.
In addition to my childhood experiences, I believe that my parents played an influential role in my desire to become a nurse practitioner.
To attain such an education, I am not hesitant to leave my comfort zone, study diligently, and work hard. I am confident that such diligence will not begin in college, but has already begun in my past years of school. To give a few examples, this past Spring I attained an SAT score of 1510. I have completed almost fifty college semester units through dual enrollment. I have been a diligent participant in the National Honor Society for three years. Having aced every high school and college course, I have maintained a weighted GPA of 4.45. Ultimately, my goal is to honor Jesus with the mind and desires He has given me.

As someone who has also been impacted by the bravest people I know, I can deeply resonate with the grievous loss of Mr. Levin. Being a child who grew up with a disabled mother, I learned to take care of my mother every day. However, in spite of its difficulties, I didn't see caring for my mother as a burden or a frustrating task. Instead, I quickly fell in love with caring for my mother. Once I fully developed my great desire to help those in need, I realized that my heart was in the nursing field.
In addition to my childhood experiences, I believe that my parents played an influential role in my desire to become a nurse practitioner.
For these reasons, I have chosen to major in STEM at California Baptist University as a pre-nursing student. Coming from a low-income family, a nursing education at a four-year private university currently seems out of reach.

For these reasons, I have chosen to major in STEM at California Baptist University as a pre-nursing student. For me, my ultimate aspiration is to become a nurse practitioner.
Unlike most nurses, my interest in the nursing field developed much earlier in life. A year after my birth, my mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, a neurological disease that devastatingly restricts her mobility. As a child who grew up with a disabled mother, everyday I witnessed the destruction that diseases continually rack upon humanity. As I grew older, I began to intimately care for my mother every day. Such care consisted of helping my mother walk, eat, talk, sit, stand, use the bathroom, and many more simple tasks. Unexpectedly to those around me, I quickly fell in love with caring for my mother. Once I fully developed my great desire to help those in need, I realized that my heart was in the nursing field.

My mother is one of the greatest heroes in my life. Of all the people I know, she has faced the most struggles and hardships in her life. However, she remains the brightest and strongest woman I know. Because of her, I am motivated to keep going. Because of her, I am motivated to pursue a nursing career. Because of her, I am motivated to trust in Jesus through whatever may befall me.
In 2009, my mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, a neurological disease that plagues its victims with rigidity and tremors. In spite of my mother's struggles, she has always poured her entire self into my education. Having home schooled me until high school, my mother has witnessed the fruit of her investments: this past Spring I successfully earned an SAT score of 1510, I have completed almost forty college credits through dual enrollment, I have been a diligent participant in the National Honor Society for three years, and I have maintained a weighted GPA of 4.45.

Collette Mahmood Scholarship for Women
I do not think that grit means to act unaffected by the obstacles and challenges one is faced with. I believe that showing grit means to take every failure as a learning experience, take every hardship as a season of refinement, and take every challenge as an opportunity to become a better person. In my life, I've shown grit countless times in both my academic and personal life.
Since high school, I've embodied a gritty mindset through my education and my academics. I have never been hesitant to leave my comfort zone, study diligently, and work hard. To give a few examples, this past Spring I attained an SAT score of 1510 after intensive studying. Having created my own academic plans since seventh grade, I have completed almost fifty college semester units through dual enrollment at two different community colleges. For three years, I have been a diligent participant in the National Honor Society and served my local community. Having aced every high school and college course, I have maintained a weighted GPA of 4.45 throughout high school.
In addition to academics, I have striven to show grit through the challenges in my own life. Since I was quite young, I have been a secondary caregiver to a very dear loved one in my life: my mother.
In spite of the physically and emotionally-demanding labor, I armed myself with a gritty mindset and pressed forward. In this case, I began to shift my focus from the bad to the good. Instead of grieving over cancer, I began to truly appreciate life. As I savored every moment we spent together, I realized that there was nothing that I would not do for my mother.
As someone who has embodied a gritty mindset and a compassion for others, I have realized that my heart is in the nursing field. However, coming from a low-income family, a nursing education currently seems out of reach. If given the honor of receiving this scholarship, I assure you that I will use these funds to the best of my ability, entering the nursing field with all the grit I have mustered.

Instead, I saw my care giving role as an opportunity to express my love to my mother.
In spite of the physically and emotionally-demanding labor, I found that I continued to enjoy caring for my mother. From my mother's bout with cancer, I began to truly appreciate life. As I savored every moment we spent together, I realized that there was nothing that I would not do for her.
For these reasons, I have chosen to major in STEM at California Baptist University as a pre-nursing student. Coming from a low-income family, a nursing education at a four-year private university currently seems out of reach. And in my future career, I will forever remember and honor my mother's tremendous investments in my life.
Jennifer Gephart Memorial Working Mothers Scholarship
Before I begin this essay, I would first like to extend my condolences toward the friends and family of Jennifer Gephart. As someone who is deeply interested in physical therapy and kinesiology, I can deeply resonate with the grievous loss of Mrs. Gephart. If given the honor of receiving this scholarship, I will forever cherish Mrs. Gephart's legacy as I pursue my own education and career.
In addition to my childhood experiences, I believe that my parents played an influential role in my desire to become a nurse practitioner.

Jorian Kuran Harris (Shugg) Helping Heart Foundation Scholarship
To me, a scholarship is not merely an amount of money. To me, a scholarship is a key that can open doors to goals, dreams, and aspirations. Behind these doors is the moon that I shoot for, the stars that I reach for.
For me, my ultimate aspiration is to become a nurse practitioner.
Unlike most nurses, my interest in the nursing field developed much earlier in life. Since I was quite young, I have been a secondary caregiver to a very dear loved one in my life: my mother. In 2008, my mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. As my mom pressed on through various treatments, my family and I rode a roller coaster of emotional turmoil. By caring for my mother everyday, I eventually realized that my heart was in the nursing field.

Eric W. Larson Memorial STEM Scholarship
Before I begin this essay, I would first like to extend my condolences toward the friends and family of Eric W. Larson. If given the honor of receiving this scholarship, I will forever cherish Mr. Larson's legacy as I pursue my own education and career.
Let me first introduce myself.
However, not every story is picturesque or perfect. Since I was quite young, I have been a secondary caregiver to a very dear loved one in my life: my mother. A neurological disease which gradually worsens over the years, Parkinson's Disease plagues its victims with rigidity and tremors, stripping away their ability to move. If given the honor of receiving this scholarship, I assure you that I will use these funds to the best of my ability, with the intention of becoming an excellent nurse practitioner. And in my future career, I will forever remember and honor my parents' tremendous investments in my life.
Alexander de Guia Memorial Scholarship
Several times a month, my family and I love to spend time with my grandparents. We have made many sweet memories over meals of adobo and pancit, or over karaoke sessions (as Filipinos, we naturally love to sing and dance!). Full of sweet memories and much fun, our days came at a cost. We all remember that it took many struggles and hurdles to get to where we are today.
My father was born in Manila, Philippines. Having been struck with poverty, my grandparents sought financial opportunities outside of the Phillipines. At six years old, my father moved with his family to Nigeria. Three years later, my father's family immigrated to the United States. Working multiple jobs a day, my father, his siblings, and his parents worked hard to provide for themselves and attain U.S. citizenship. Through much hard work, perseverance, and God's grace, my father was the first in his family to attend a four-year university. In 2006, he earned his PhD in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics at UCLA. At graduate school, he met my mother, who is also an Asian immigrant.
For these reasons, I have chosen to major in STEM at California Baptist University as a pre-nursing student. Coming from a low-income family, a nursing education at a four-year private university currently seems out of reach.
Julie Adams Memorial Scholarship – Women in STEM
Before I begin this essay, I would first like to extend my condolences toward the friends and family of Julie Adams. As a daughter of a wonderful and loving teacher in STEM, I can deeply resonate with the grievous losses of Mrs. Adams. If given the honor of receiving this scholarship, I will forever cherish Mrs. Adams' legacy as I pursue my own education and career.
As if Parkinson's wasn't bad enough, my care and love for my mother was challenged last year when my mother was diagnosed with cancer. As my mom pressed on through various treatments, my family and I rode a roller coaster of emotional turmoil.
In addition to my childhood experiences, I believe that my parents played an influential role in my desire to become a nurse practitioner.

Abner & Irmene Memorial Scholarship

Grace and Growth Scholarship
To me, leadership is simple to understand. It means putting others before oneself. It means caring for others without one's personal interest in mind. It means loving others unconditionally, not expecting anything in return. But most of all, leadership is not just a mindset-- it's an action. And I believe that my greatest acts of selflessness are the two instances that I will mention below.
Since I was quite young, I have been a secondary caregiver to a very dear loved one in my life: my mother. In 2008, my mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Instead, I saw my care giving role as an opportunity to express my love to my mother.
In spite of the physically and emotionally-demanding labor, I found that I continued to enjoy caring for my mother. From my mother's bout with cancer, I began to truly appreciate life. As I savored every moment we spent together, I realized that there was nothing that I would not do for her.
In addition to my personal struggles, I have shown leadership in my academic studies.
As someone who has embodied leadership, I recently found that my heart is in the nursing field. However, coming from a low-income family, a nursing education currently seems out of reach. If given the honor of receiving this scholarship, I assure you that I will use these funds to the best of my ability, entering the nursing field in all leadership and compassion.

Redefining Victory Scholarship
To me, a scholarship is not merely an amount of money. To me, a scholarship is a key that can open doors to goals, dreams, and aspirations. Behind these doors is the moon that I shoot for, the stars that I reach for.
For me, my ultimate aspiration is to become a nurse practitioner.

In addition to my childhood experiences, I believe that my parents played an influential role in my desire to become a nurse practitioner.
In Fall of 2026, I would like to attend California Baptist University. Coming from a low-income family, a nursing education at a private university currently seems out of reach. However, with this scholarship, I hope to attain a BSN and MSN from this university and ultimately become a nurse practitioner. I would greatly appreciate your kind consideration of my application. If given the honor of receiving this scholarship, I assure you that I will use these funds to the best of my ability, entering the nursing field for the betterment of those around me.
Resilient Scholar Award
I do not think that resilience means to act unaffected by the obstacles and challenges one is faced with. I believe that showing resilience means to take every failure as a learning experience, take every hardship as a season of refinement, and take every challenge as an opportunity to become a better person. In my life, I've shown resilience countless times in both my academic and personal life.
Since high school, I've embodied resilience through my education and my academics.
In addition to academics, I have striven to be resilient through the challenges in my own life. Since I was quite young, I have been a secondary caregiver to a very dear loved one in my life: my mother. In 2008, my mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Instead, I saw my care giving role as an opportunity to express my love to my mother.
In spite of the physically and emotionally-demanding labor, I armed myself with resilience and pressed forward. In this case, I began to shift my focus from the bad to the good. Instead of grieving over cancer, I began to truly appreciate life. As I savored every moment we spent together, I realized that there was nothing that I would not do for my mother.
As someone who has embodied resilience and a compassion for others, I have realized that my heart is in the nursing field. However, coming from a low-income family, a nursing education currently seems out of reach. If given the honor of receiving this scholarship, I assure you that I will use these funds to the best of my ability, entering the nursing field with all the resilience I have mustered.
Helping Hand Fund
To me, a scholarship is not merely an amount of money. To me, a scholarship is a key that can open doors to goals, dreams, and aspirations. Behind these doors is the moon that I shoot for, the stars that I reach for.

W. Tong and A.C. Wong Legacy Scholarship
For these reasons, I have chosen to major in STEM at California Baptist University as a pre-nursing student. Coming from a low-income family, a nursing education at a four-year private university currently seems out of reach.

Jennifer and Rob Tower Memorial Scholarship
Before I begin this essay, I would first like to extend my condolences and comfort toward the friends and family of Jennifer and Rob Tower. As someone who has seen kindness for the rare beauty that it is, I can deeply resonate with the grievous losses of Jennifer and Rob Tower. If given the honor of receiving this scholarship, I will forever cherish Jennifer and Rob Tower's legacy as I pursue my own education and career.
To me, kindness is simple to understand. It means putting others before oneself. It means caring for others without one's personal interest in mind. It means loving others unconditionally, not expecting anything in return. But most of all, kindness is not just a mindset-- it's an action. Although I have shown kindness to many people in my life, I believe that my greatest acts of kindness are the two instances that I will mention below.
Since I was quite young, I have been a secondary caregiver to a very dear loved one in my life: my mother. In 2008, my mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Instead, I saw my care giving role as an opportunity to express my love to my mother. To express kindness in its most rare and beautiful form. To express that even the most debilitating disease won't ever separate us.
As if Parkinson's wasn't bad enough, my care and love for my mother was heavily challenged last year when my mother was diagnosed with cancer. As my mom pressed on through various treatments and surgery, my family and I rode a frightening roller coaster of emotional turmoil. In spite of the physically and emotionally-demanding labor, I found that I continued to enjoy caring for my mother. From my mother's bout with cancer, I began to truly appreciate life. As I savored every moment we spent together, I realized that there was nothing that I would not do for her.
As someone who has embodied kindness, I recently found that my heart is in the nursing field. In Fall of 2026, I would like to attend California Baptist University to pursue a nursing education. Coming from a low-income family, a nursing education at a private university currently seems out of reach. However, with this scholarship, I hope to attain a BSN and MSN from this university and ultimately become a nurse practitioner. I would greatly appreciate your kind consideration of my application. Sheila A Burke Memorial Scholarship
First, I would like to give my condolences to the family and friends of Miss Burke. As many of my dear loved ones are also in the nursing field, it pains my heart to know of Miss Burke's passing. If given the honor of receiving this scholarship, I will forever cherish Miss Burke's legacy as I advance my future nursing career.
My ultimate aspiration is to become a nurse practitioner. Before I describe my vision as a nurse in the future, I would like to expound on how my past influenced my desire. I believe that my childhood greatly influenced this inspiration. A year after my birth, my mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, a worsening disorder which limits her mobility and ability to carry out simple tasks. As a child who grew up with a disabled mother, everyday I witnessed the destruction that diseases continually rack upon humanity. As I grew older, I began to intimately care for my mother every day.
Nursing Student Scholarship
My ultimate aspiration is to become a nurse practitioner. I believe that my childhood greatly influenced this inspiration. Unlike most students, my interest in the medical field developed much earlier in life.
In addition to my childhood experiences, I believe that my parents played an influential role in my desire to become a nurse practitioner.
I have diligently participated in the National Honor Society, serving my community. Having aced every high school and college course, I have maintained a weighted GPA of 4.45. To me, a scholarship is not merely an amount of money. To me, a scholarship is a key that can open doors to goals, dreams, and aspirations. Behind these doors is the moon that I shoot for, the stars that I reach for.

I believe that my parents also inspired me to become a nurse practitioner. Having two scientists as parents, it’s not surprising that I grew up in my own “scientific community”. To attain a solid nursing education, I will not shy away from leaving my comfort zone, working hard, and being diligent. I believe that this starts now, in high school.
