I became the first person in my entire family to graduate from a college. I graduated with a BA in Spanish Interpretation and translation to help the Spanish speaking community with the language barrier. I have helped my community overcome that language barrier by working as a medical interpreter at one of the highest performing hospitals in Nebraska. After working here for a while I came across the emergency department and met few paramedics that said it's hard for them to do their job with a patient who doesn't speak the same language. This was a turn on of a light bulb for me and thought this is a perfect career for me to advance in and help my community.
I decided to go back to school and enrolled in an EMT basic training course for a semester in 2020. Finished it and got my certificate than few months later in 2021 got my license through the state of Nebraska. I then decided to pursue this career even further by applying for paramedic school and hope to complete this 2 year paramedic program so I can get more experience and become a licensed bilingual paramedic and save lives. My ultimate goal is to eventually become a flight medic.

Hurricane Mitch was the second-deadliest Atlantic hurricane on record, causing approximately 7,000 deaths in Honduras. My parent's lost everything after this hurricane destroyed our home. Living in poverty and seeing the conditions our country was left they took the decision to travel 1620.17 miles to the U.S border in order to give me a better future. For all the suffering and sacrifice my parents went through to bring me here I have taken this opportunity to become someone, work towards my goals and make my parents proud. Growing up I always loved helping others and this is what helped me choose my career.
