My name is Edgardo Olivera Jr and ever since I was little I loved drawing and making people feel better about themselves. As a result of this, I will become an art therapist. I have got accepted into temple university for their art therapy major and I will do my four years here and join many clubs and organizations along the way. In middle school and high school, I kept to myself and didn't network but for college, this will change. I went to temples accepted student day and saw they have an art therapy club so I will join it during my time there. Then to practice art therapy you also have to get your masters in it so after I graduate from Temple University I will apply to NYU or Drexel for their art therapy master's. When it comes to art therapy you can practice it in larger organizations and institutes such as hospitals or schools or practice it on your own. I will have my own art therapy business so I will plan accordingly. Getting enough money to start my business will take time so I will do art therapy at a school for a few years until I have saved enough money then start working on my business and my marketing strategy. This is when social media comes into play, as stated earlier I always loved content creation such as making youtube videos, live streaming, and now TikTok. Since art therapy is a very small and niche career path there is not much information to be found about it online so I am going to create content about my art therapy business through Youtube, Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter, and more. This content will show the daily life of an art therapist, how to become one, the pros and cons, and time management. I want to become the resource I didn't have when looking into art therapy. Then as my community grows in size so will my clients grow. I am passionate about art therapy because I know that many children and teenagers struggle with their mental health and feel as though they can not express how they feel. I will create an art therapy business where kids and teenagers can use their creativity to express themselves and have an outlet. I want my sessions and space to be very welcoming and relaxing I want my space to have many different art supplies from crayons, paint, markers, clay, and more. In addition, I want music to be playing in the background and I want a lot of plants surrounding me and my clients. I want my session to feel more like an art classroom rather than a doctor's office meaning my room will also be bright and colorful rather than dull and cold as some offices are. I am so passionate about making positive changes in my community because so many of my friends have had rough upbringings that I want to be the person to ensure future generations that what you have gone through does not define you and that you can always grow out from your trauma and experiences.

My experience with mental health with my loved one has influenced my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations because my partner has been through a lot in her childhood which has shaped her mental health today. For example, sometimes she feels like she is not good enough, not smart enough, not pretty, and much more. Because of this I comfort her and reassure her that she is good enough, she is smart, and she is pretty. Before getting in a relationship with her I never really knew how to comfort somebody or show sympathy to someone. It was because of my partner's mental health that made me a much more understanding individual. In addition, sometimes I would get mad over little things but because I know her background and what she has been through I have now learned to take a moment and think about how I should react to what made me mad. As a result of this, I now want to be an art therapist and help the future generation of kids and teenagers work through their issues. Besides my significant others, many of my friends I've had has been through something traumatic or have been going through mental health issues. I always enjoyed making people feel better about themselves which is why art therapy is perfect for me. It combines my passion for art with my passion for therapy. I want to have my own business and I want my sessions to feel very welcoming and relaxing. There will be many art supplies to choose from, music playing in the background, plants around me and my clients, and bright colors all around us. I feel as though many clinical therapy sessions lack the inviting aspect with their sessions most of the time the session feels cold, dull, and not loving. In addition, I will also create content about my art therapy business and post it on Youtube, Tiktok, and more. I will do this because when I first came across art therapy there was not that much information about it online because of how niche it was. So to combat this issue I will create my own content so I can build up my community and clients. I will make videos such as a day in the life of an art therapist, the pros and cons of being an art therapist, and time management as an art therapist. My experience with mental health within my relationship has helped me learn how to be much more calm in situations, how to think before reacting, and how to comfort someone. In addition, because of dealing with mental health in my relationship, this has led me to want to create an art therapy business to help others feel good about themselves and help them overcome their mental health struggles. Nobody should struggle with their mental health or doubt themselves which is why I will create a welcoming business that helps children and teenagers learn how to express themselves, have self-confidence, and be creative.

Many people’s favorite superheroes are often a reflection of who they want to be. Batman and Spiderman always help civilians no matter how many issues they are facing in their personal life. This dynamic has taught me that no matter what I have going on I have to persevere and keep pushing forward. If Batman and Spiderman don’t give up when they are faced with challenges or obstacles, I shouldn’t either. An example of this is this year, my friend’s birthday is coming up this October and I wanted to buy her a birthday present, specifically a gaming console called a Steam Deck so she can play her video games. A steam deck costs over $400 so I had to save up a lot of money to afford it. My original plan was to get a job during the summer and continuously save money from every paycheck so I could buy the gift. After applying to jobs day after day getting rejected over and over again I felt hopeless. I knew if I didn’t get a job in time I wouldn’t be able to buy the present. Even when feeling like this every day when I woke up and before I went to bed I would tell myself “I can do this” and “I will do this.” Soon enough it was August and I got a call back from Wendy’s that they were interested in hiring me. Little by little I started saving money until I was able to afford the steam deck for my friend. It was because of having these role models of Spiderman and Batman that I was able to buy the gift, they never gave up no matter how hard their lives got so why should I? Even though I was faced with challenges and self-doubt I never gave up, I kept pushing and pushing until I accomplished my goal. I was treating this challenge much like how Batman and Spiderman have their vulnerable side and their heroic superhero side. Even though my vulnerability was making me feel less than because no jobs were calling back, I kept putting it aside and tried to focus on my “heroic” side by continuously applying to jobs and eventually going to work every day to save money. This mindset has also helped me in my day-to-day life such as going to the gym, doing my school work, and more. I will always tell myself “I can do this” and “I will do this” for whatever challenge comes my way.

Growing up, I always used youtube as a way to escape reality and consume all the entertainment that comes with the website. As a result of this, from an early age, I realized I wanted to be a YouTuber or as they say it now a content creator. This was such a big dream because becoming successful as an upcoming content creator heavily relies on luck and the right place at the right time. I can work extremely hard but if the algorithm is not pushing my content to new viewers, then I won't get anywhere. In 2020 when we all were in quarantine I started to use Tiktok to create content surrounding my artwork, I would post timelapses of me doing digital drawings on my iPad and I would draw what people requested me to draw in my comment section. Even though I was a smaller account in such a large demographic I realized I loved entertaining people and making them happy. Because of this, I started to look at art career paths I can take in my adulthood, this was when I stumbled upon Art therapy. A career path where therapists make their clients use art to express themselves. I was hooked instantly I knew this was something I wanted to do but I still needed a way to tie this back into my dream of content creation. When trying to find information about art therapy online I realized there was hardly any information available online. And most of the information I found about it was very broad and generic nothing quite specific. This was when I knew I struck gold, a niche topic that I and many other people are interested in but lacks the resources online to learn about it. I would use social media such as Youtube, Tiktok, Instagram, Twitter, and more to promote my art therapy business so I can get clients and also educate people about what it's like being an art therapist. I would use my college education to become a certified art therapist then I would use my background information to create content surrounding my business. This was the perfect idea for all 3 of my passions in one. Since I would be running my own art therapy business this means I would be able to choose my schedule and the days I work meaning I can have time to still work on my business, to have my free time, and still have time to work on my content creation. My creating content would not only help my business but also other people wanting to pursue an art therapy job. I would create content such as a day in the life of an art therapist, time management as an art therapist, how to become an art therapist, the pros and cons of being one, and more. To conclude I would use my college education to help create a foundation of my art therapy business then I would use my background knowledge of creating content to help promote my business and also pursue my dream of becoming a content creator.

Growing up I have always enjoyed reading Spiderman and Batman comic books because they teach audiences to never give up and to always stay strong no matter what. Even though Batman and Spiderman are seen as strong, confident, and larger-than-life characters they still face internal conflicts just like real people. Batman and Spiderman help people grow because they teach us valuable skills and lessons. For example, both Batman and Spiderman deal with grief and loneliness from losing their loved ones. However, even with all these conflicts they face as soon as they put on their suits, they become these confident and strong individuals. I knew if I didn’t get a job in the time I wouldn’t be able to buy the present. Looking up to superheroes often is seen as childish but people have so much love for these fictional heroes because they are an embodiment of what the fan wishes they were. Spiderman and Batman reflect my wanting to be a strong, fearless, confident person while still having issues of my own.

My name is Edgardo Olivera, I always loved art, psychology, and content creation. When applying to college I did not know which one I wanted to pursue art or psychology. This was when I found out about art therapy through the app Tiktok, instantly I fell in love with the career because it has both my passions in one. Sometimes clients can't express themselves verbally so they turn to creating artwork that shows people how they feel. My plan is I want to become an art therapist. My dream version of my future self is to be an art therapist. I will get my art therapy master's then save enough money to begin my art therapy business. I will market myself through the use of social media such as youtube and TikTok. Because art therapy is very niche me creating content will help build up my community and clients. In addition, I want to have my own space to practice art therapy. I envision a session to include many different art supplies, music playing in the background, and many plants surrounding me and my clients.
