I want to major in biology and further my career in the medical field. I would like to be an obstetrician and gynecologist. I also am planning on being a huge advocate in women’s reproductive health care systems and be able to educate young women around the world and also help them get the help they need where it’s not provided. I think one of the most important issues right now is making sure women all over get the right health care they not only need but deserve because without the right care can not only be detrimental but also fatal.

One of the main challenges I have had to overcome is the state of my mental health throughout it. From being worried if I'll ever be able to afford school from having such low motivation about even being successful in life because of stressful times. Growing up in such a small town where only a few goes to college and have actually succeeded in life is often times scary. At some point in high school, I felt that I was going to be a failure and bring disappointment to all the people around me, but I would like to say that most of those feelings have changed.
In my town, many of the girls and women around here are not educated on the topic of reproductive health care and how to make the right decisions about our body. Whether it be from lack of education or the stereotypes that go around and constantly getting shut down when you try and talk about these topics because they are deemed "inappropriate". Countless numbers of girls suffer from teen pregnancy and have no clue or idea what to do when the baby comes. As I pursue my future as an Ob/Gyn, one of the main goals I have is to spread a positive light on our healthcare and give the right education that is needed to fully take care of our bodies, not just in the United States but also in countries all around the world that are not even able to be provided with this type of help because of lack of resources.
Another huge goal in my future is to become an advocate in women's rights and stand up for our bodies. In Texas, where I live, a law was passed stating that women cannot get an abortion after six weeks of pregnancy. Six weeks is not enough time in order to know that we are pregnant. While it is possible, many women have stated that they did not know they were pregnant till after the span of six weeks. I also feel strongly that abortion should not be decided in the hands of men because they do not know what pregnancy can do to a woman and how it affects our life. Many of the reasons that they are not in support of abortion is because they think it is killing a baby, or that it is "sinful". and also, that instead of aborting "it" we can just put "it" in an adoption agency. 140,000, that is the number of kids adopted each year. While that may seem like a lot there are over 400,000 kids in the foster care system which only a bit over 25% are considered "adoptable". Granted the adoption system can be an amazing thing it can also be a very bad one to some of the kids. Abortion is our basic human right. Many of the reasons women may turn to abortion could be that they are not financially stable, mentally stable, sexual assault, physical health and many more reasons. I want to make a positive impact on this issue by provided women their rights and try my best to help them when they need it most.
To sum up what I have been stating, I want to make a huge impact on the medical field and help women all around get the best healthcare they need. It can often times seem impossible to accomplish that big of a goal, but I will stop at nothing to make sure something is done. I do not want to leave knowing that I didn't try to help.

I know from first-hand experience that women’s health is not commonly talked about around here. There is very little education offered to girls about reproductive health, and many girls in high school aren't educated on the topic either. Most wouldn’t even think to go to an ob/gyn for information about things like that. The recent abortion ban in Texas prohibits women from choosing an abortion before most even can realize that they are pregnant. The lack of information and legal barriers are dangerous to women’s health.
As a single mother at 26 of two daughters, my mother chose to have a tubal ligation because she knew that she could not take care of another child mentally, physically, or financially. Because of the risks that my mom understands so well, she has always been very careful to make sure her daughters understand the realities of parenthood and the need for reproductive choice and protections. I want to see all teens educated on important knowledge that will help them in the future.
When I go into college, I will major in biology and one day become an OB/GYN that my patients trust and won't be afraid to talk to. I want to help parents make choices that are best for themselves and their babies.I want to make a positive change in the medical field worldwide. My ultimate goal is to open my own clinic in a rural community. Growing up in Texas has made me realize how many more women's clinics are needed. There are many women who can’t get supplies for their needs, or have completely unsafe conditions that could cause them or their baby major health problems. I intend to help create a world where this lack of access to healthcare is no longer an issue for my home town.
