Disney Channel Rewind Scholarship
Austin meets Montana
Disney crossover episodes were always my favorite to watch growing up. I wanted to be Hannah Montana, and I was convinced that one day, I’d become a pop star. When “Hannah Montana” went off the air, “Austin and Ally” followed shortly behind. Disney needed to replace the musical series that did so well on their channel. I have always had absolute admiration for Austin Moon. My dream life as a kid was to be a pop star and marry one.
I couldn’t imagine a better crossover episode between these two shows. It’s too bad they weren’t airing simultaneously, or I could have seen Disney having a crossover episode between “Austin and Ally” and “Hannah Montana.”
“Austin and Ally" follows the lives of Ally Dawson, a talented songwriter, and Austin Moon, a charming musician, as they navigate the music industry with their friends Trish and Dez. On the other hand, "Hannah Montana" revolves around Miley Stewart, a teenage girl who leads a double life as the famous pop star Hannah Montana with her best friends Lilly and Oliver. The crossover episode brings these vibrant characters together, promising an exciting blend of music, drama, and comedy.
The highlight of the crossover episode is a freestyle karaoke challenge between Austin Moon and Hannah Montana. It would be run as a battle of the band's competition held in Miami where the setting of “Austin and Ally” occurs in the Sonic Boom music store. Hannah Montana is present in Miami because she has an upcoming tour date there. Hannah has always been a fan of Austin Moon and has had a massive crush on him since his first music video went viral. Austin Moon was aware of Hannah Montana being in Miami, and he had a secret crush on her, too, so Austin and Ally turned the music store into a glow-in-the-dark neon-themed competition. This setting would create a fun atmosphere for the bands.
As the freestyle karaoke competition starts, the audience is captivated by Austin and Hannah's energy and talent. They bring an immense sense of excitement and style to the crowd. As the freestyle karaoke challenge climaxes, the tension in the air is noticeable. Austin and Hannah Montana give it their all, leaving the audience in awe of their talent. The judges, comprising characters from both shows, face the difficult task of declaring a winner.
In a surprising turn of events, the freestyle karaoke challenge ends in a tie as Austin and Hannah Montana showcase their extraordinary musical abilities. The audience erupts into applause, acknowledging the spectacular performances of both characters. Despite the competitive nature of the challenge, Austin and Hannah Montana share a moment of mutual respect, recognizing each other's talent and sportsmanship.
In conclusion, the crossover episode of “Austin and Ally and “Hannah Montana” shows the excitement and entertainment such collaborations bring to television. Crossover episodes provide a fresh perspective for audiences and allow beloved characters to interact in unexpected ways, creating memorable moments for fans. The crossover episode of Austin and Ally and Hannah Montana is a celebration of friendship, music, and creativity, leaving a lasting impact on fans of both shows. As the characters bid farewell, the audience eagerly awaits the next crossover event that promises to bring together their favorite characters in a new and exciting adventure.
Future Planner Scholarship
WinnerCultural influences significantly shaped my perceptions of career choices and personal goals as a Filipina-American. Choosing to want to enter the event planning industry as a minority female I know will come with its own unique challenges. I know that I will face gender biases, prejudice, and racial discrimination when it comes to this job. It’s not easy being a minority, especially since Covid. I feel like the world has had a different viewpoint of Asian Americans since the virus. I am excited to work to see a breakthrough for Filipinos in the American event planning industry as I work towards my degree at the University of Georgia.
The cost of education and training and the challenges of starting out in the industry with limited resources will strain my journey considerably. Building a reputation and client base without the financial backing that many of my peers will have will be difficult. Despite the financial hurdles, I will remain resilient and find creative solutions to propel my future career forward.
As I pursue a career in event planning, I aim to positively impact the world by using my skills to organize impactful and meaningful events. My passion for event planning comes from my interest in organization, creativity, and community. I am excited to create experiences that leave a lasting impression on attendees. The thought of carefully planning every detail of an event, from conceptualization to execution, gives me a sense of fulfillment. It’s important to be knowledgeable about your job and have skills such as attention to detail, time management, communication, problem-solving, and creativity to ensure the success of my craft.
Events can raise awareness about important causes and promote social change. Event planners can significantly make a positive change by organizing fundraisers for charitable organizations, awareness campaigns for social issues, or community-building events.
Event planning is not just about organizing logistics; it is about using the power of gatherings to inspire, educate, and unite people for a common cause. As I continue my education to learn more about events and how they are planned, I am committed to using my skills and passion to create events that make a difference and leave a positive mark on the world. I want to make a way in the event planning industry for all the minorities who want to succeed as event planners. I want my story to stand as a testament to the power of determination and the ability to overcome adversities, no matter how hard they may seem.

Amy Etheridge: daughter, mother, friend, leader, wife, saved. My mother is the most influential person in my life. Mothers are supposed to be a daughter's best friend. The person that a daughter can turn to when everyone else has turned against them, when it feels like there's nothing but rainy days, and the person whom you can always receive a hug from. I’m blessed that my mother is all those things and infinitely more for me. Not everyone gets a mom like that, and I will never take her for granted.
Amy has raised me to believe that Jesus is the only way to Heaven and that a life without Jesus is just not an option. A parent is supposed to raise a child up in the way that they should go, and they will not depart from it. That’s precisely what she did. As I grew up, I could see that her faith was authentic. It wasn’t just a Sunday morning faith but an everyday one. I wanted to love the Lord like she did, so I made my faith mine. A relationship with Jesus is personal, and I had to make it my own. I couldn’t just do what she did and be relational with Jesus, but I could learn from what she did. My mother serves on Sunday mornings, gives food to the hungry, and openly talks about her faith to anyone who has ears to hear about the goodness of God. She lives her life like she knows the Lord. Her actions speak louder than her words. That’s a lesson I had to learn for myself.
People are watching what you do, especially if you claim to be a Christian. If you talk the talk, then it’s so important to walk the walk. Why would anyone believe you if your actions don’t reflect what you say? My mother keeps to her word. She does what she says she's going to do. She’s never broken a promise to me. Knowing that I can trust her and her ability to keep her word has been foundational for my character. I have not struggled with trust issues, a familiar character trait for young people my age. She has built me into a stable young woman with a solid mindset of right and wrong. I do unto others as I would have them do to me. I keep to my word, which I’ve found forms trustworthy relationships among my friends.
My mother and I joined a group at our church called Sisterhood, which has a ministry that serves the homeless in Charleston for dinner on Sunday evenings. I have found that I love serving. I saw a need in the community for clothing just as much as they needed food. I have an eye for thrifting and styling, so I posted to my neighborhood Facebook group and told anyone to drop off clothing at my house if they were heading to Goodwill soon. From there, donations of men's and women's clothing flooded in. My mother and I sorted through and labeled the clothing so that we could easily distribute it when we got downtown. I look forward to continuing this mission at UGA.
I wouldn’t be the woman I am today without my mom. She is a woman of character and persistence. I look up to her and admire the way she handles every situation and hardship with grace and grit. I’m blessed to be her daughter and couldn’t imagine being born to any other family other than my own.
