Learner Math Lover Scholarship
"Sixteen, even. Eighteen, even. Twenty-one, odd,” is what repeated in my head countlessly when my teacher was reading us a Dr. Seuss book. While my classmates were engrossed in the whimsical rhymes and fantastical creatures, my mind was adrift in a sea of numbers. The playful words of Dr. Seuss were background noise to the steady beat of mathematical facts marching through my thoughts.
As my teacher's voice ebbed and flowed with the cadence of the story, I found myself constructing sequences and patterns. I visualized numbers in vivid colors, each one fitting perfectly into the grand mosaic of mathematics that occupied my mind. The world of Dr. Seuss, with its imaginary landscapes and quirky characters, was an intriguing parallel to the abstract realm of math where I felt most alive.
My fascination with numbers wasn't just a distraction; it was a passion that transformed the ordinary into something extraordinary. Every even number was like a pair of perfectly matched socks, comforting in their predictability. Odd numbers, on the other hand, were like wildcards, introducing an element of surprise and excitement into the mix. The harmony between them created a rhythm that was both soothing and stimulating, a constant reminder of the beauty and order underlying the complexity of life.
As my teacher turned the pages, I turned over numbers in my mind, exploring their relationships and properties. I saw patterns where others saw only text, and I found joy in the certainty of mathematical truths. The predictability of even and odd numbers provided a stark contrast to the unpredictable narratives of Dr. Seuss, yet in my mind, they coexisted harmoniously, each enhancing the other.
This duality has shaped my approach to learning and problem-solving. Just as Dr. Seuss's stories encouraged creativity and imagination, mathematics has taught me the value of logic and precision. As I reflect on these formative experiences, I am grateful for the way mathematics has enriched my life. It has provided a framework for understanding the world and a source of endless fascination. Whether I'm navigating the whimsical worlds of literature or the structured realms of math, I am constantly reminded of the infinite possibilities that lie ahead. My love for math is not just a passion; it is a way of seeing the world, a lens that reveals the hidden beauty in everything around me.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
In the words of Bill Bullard, “The highest form of knowledge is empathy.” These words are something that I carry with me through my personal and academic pursuits. Having empathy has been the cornerstone of me dealing with my mental health. My journey with my mental health has been profoundly shaped by my goals, relationships, and my true understanding of the world. As a rising sophomore health science major, attending Spelman College, a private all-woman’s college in my hometown, Atlanta is one of the best decisions I have ever made. It is an institution that empowers women and offers an extraordinary curriculum that challenges you to become your best self. However, attending a school like Spelman comes with its cons. During my freshman year, I felt like I didn't belong or was not good enough to attend such an institution. Being surrounded by people who look like you and seeing them getting all these opportunities was inspiring. Yet, I do not seem quite good enough when I apply for these amazing opportunities. The phrase "We regret to inform you" is something I know all too well.
During my fall semester, I first heard the term imposter syndrome, a behavioral health phenomenon that causes high-achieving people to doubt their skills or accomplishments. When I first heard about this, I refused to believe that this was something that I had. Not me, not the girl who has been on the honor roll her whole life, participated in multiple extracurriculars, and had the highest confidence. However, coming to a school like Spelman, surrounded by talented and ambitious black women like me, makes it easy to compare myself to others. I often questioned whether I truly belonged at such a prestigious institution.
Despite my past achievements, the successes of my Spelman sisters made me feel inadequate. Imposter syndrome is something I have struggled with my freshman year and still struggle with as I am going into my sophomore year. Throughout my first academic year, I fell into a cycle of a depressive mindset, causing me to doubt myself. This led to a domino effect, as I isolated myself and became overwhelmed with my academics and career goals, trying to be perfect. I would often stay in my dorm room for hours and not eat, and then I fell into a rabbit hole of comparing myself not only academically but physically. I questioned whether it was maybe my appearance or personality. It wasn't until a call from my mother that I changed everything; hearing a familiar voice full of support and warmth cut through the darkness of my self-doubt. She reminded me of my worth and what it is for me. To stop comparing myself to others. Her words planted a seed that perfection was an unrealistic standard. I did not know the stories of my Spelman sisters; they could have gone through what I was going through. I realized I needed to trust in myself and not try to be perfect but try my best.
This experience has taught me invaluable lessons about self-belief. I understand that feeling like an imposter is not a reflection of my worth but a common challenge many faces. As I enter my sophomore year, I've begun dismantling the negative thoughts that have held me back. With my head held high, I want to take control of my narrative and not let imposter syndrome define my academic experience and cause me to miss out on opportunities. I will keep applying cause I know what is meant for me is meant for me; whether it ends in acceptance or rejection, it is a stepping stone towards my growth as a person overall. This chapter of my life has greatly influenced my goals, relationships, and understanding of the world. It has inspired me to change my academic methods and improve my time management skills to become my best self. I aim to strive for excellence in all my studies and be confident in myself and my mind. In addition, I have joined the mental health club at my school to help others who may also struggle with imposter syndrome, and I am currently applying for their E-board positions. Regarding my career goals, I aspire to become an Occupational Therapist. In my career, I hope to create initiatives geared to each patient's mental health so they can thrive and feel empowered in and outside my office. Furthermore, my relationships have been deeply impacted by my journey with mental health. Through the support of my loved ones, particularly my mother, I discovered the power of connection and vulnerability. It also helps me understand the importance of empathy; I am not alone in my struggles, and it is okay to ask for help. Lastly, my experience with mental health has expanded my understanding of the world. It has made me more aware of the prevalence of imposter syndrome
and that I am not alone. Recognizing that imposter syndrome transcends race, gender, and socioeconomic status has fostered a sense of empathy toward others facing similar challenges.
Overall, My first year at Spelman College taught me a lot and was a great chapter of personal growth. As I continue my academic journey, I carry with me the lessons learned; I aim to achieve my dream and keep applying myself. I am determined to redefine my college experience on my terms. My experience with mental health has been transformative, shaping my goals, relationships, and how I view the world. It has taught me the importance of self-belief, empathy, and authenticity. By embracing my imperfections and vulnerability, I will confidently embrace every opportunity, knowing that each step forward is progress, no matter how small.

In the words of Winston Churchill, "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts." This quote perfectly encapsulates my journey at Spelman College, the number one HBCU and a private all-women’s college in my hometown, Atlanta. Choosing Spelman College is one of the best decisions I have made. It is an institution that empowers women and offers an extraordinary curriculum that challenges you to become your best self. However, while attending Spelman, I felt like I didn't belong or was not good enough to attend such an institution. It was a youthful green and beige house on Wicklander Drive nestled between the trees of suburban Georgia. This house was the vessel that carried my life for 16 years. It was a place where I got ready for my first formal, a place where my sibling’s laughter echoed through the halls., and a place where I learned my mother had cancer. Yet, this was where I found my passion for wanting to help others through my career as an occupational therapist. My name is Emma Green. I am a rising sophomore health science major attending Spelman College, a private HBCU and all women's liberal arts college in Atlanta, Georgia, and this is my essay submission to the Snap EmpowHER Scholarship.
As a child, I often craved something more feminine since I was the only girl out of my siblings. I would usually feel lonely in action figures and video games. During those moments of loneliness, I would find my imagination running wild. So, I began to set free in the realm of creativity. Drawing and crafting became my haven. It was a space to put my thoughts, emotions, and dreams on paper. As I have grown older, I have learned that I enjoy science and deeply empathize with helping others. I chose a career that could channel my love for creativity and desire to help others into one: Occupational Therapy. In my career, I hope to change countless lives through my practice, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who walks through my office.
It excites me to think about my future career path. My deep desire to change people's lives and be able to showcase my creative skills helpfully is one of my lifelong goals and something I want to do in this world. I specifically want to work with children and become a Pediatric Occupational Therapist. My oldest brother deals with autism. When we were younger, I would often tag along with him and my mother to his appointment with his Occupational Therapist. This was my first interaction in the field. Seeing his motor skills develop solely from creative activities. I want to impact the field, make it more innovative, and create a space for people to become their best selves.
As a young woman attending an all-girls institution, I highly value women's empowerment. I attend an institution that centers on women empowerment, especially black women, which has profoundly shaped my perspective and how I would carry myself in life. While Spelman has amazing academics and challenges me, it also has fostered my sense of self-worth, resilience, and leadership among women. The sisterhood at Spelman is something I would never trade, and I am forever grateful to be able to attend a school so prestigious. As I go down my career path, I plan to uplift women, especially in STEM. As a black woman pursuing a profession in STEM, I recognize how important it is to have representation and diversity in my community. Attending a school where women are uplifted and encouraged in all fields is such a blessing. They have engrained that there’s no limit to what I can do. In addition, I want to create a space for women to come and talk about their lives where they can freely express themselves, share their stories, and find support in one another. This is something I plan to do at Spelman and long after I graduate.

Black Leaders Scholarship
Throughout history, many amazing black leaders have changed the world with bravery and determination. Among them stood Katherine Johnson, one of the first African-American women to work as a NASA scientist. Additionally, she played a crucial role in the success of numerous space missions, including John Glenn’s historic orbit around the Earth. Despite facing discrimination and barriers due to her race and gender, Katherine Johnson persevered at NASA. She became a trailblazer in her field, leaving an indelible mark on space exploration and inspiring future generations.
As someone not fond of mathematics, I still find Katherine Johnson’s journey inspiring. I first heard her name when I watched the film Hidden Figures, which told the story of Katherine and her colleagues Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson, who were unsung heroes in making Glenn’s orbit successful. However, she inspires me because of her determination and perseverance. She defined the odds when everything was against her; she overcame systemic racism and sexism while making invaluable contributions to the space program at NASA, and I find that so stunning.
Her story has truly taught me what it means to define the odds. She taught me that greatness is not defined only by talent but by the willingness to work hard and persevere in adversity. When I lack motivation, I reflect on her journey and revisit the movie for inspiration. It is a powerful reminder that barriers can be overcome with courage and a steadfast belief in myself. Moreover, her story highlighted the importance of representation and diversity in STEM fields. Seeing someone who looked like me excelling in a field I wanted to pursue was incredibly empowering. There are very few occupational therapists who are black and even fewer who are women. I am driven to fill that void to break barriers and serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for other young black girls.
In 2015, President Barack Obama awarded Katherine Johnson the Presidential Medal of Freedom, recognizing her extraordinary contributions to science and society. She sadly passed away in in 2020, yet her legacy continues to inspire countless individuals to pursue their dreams and define the odds.
In conclusion, Katherine Johnson's journey from a young girl with a passion for mathematics to a trailblazing NASA scientist is a testament to the power of determination. Her story breaks barriers of race, gender, and academic discipline. No matter who you are, the story is truly inspiring. In a world where barriers still exist for many aspiring scientists, engineers, and mathematicians, Katherine Johnson's legacy is a beacon of hope and empowerment for them. As we honor Katherine Johnson's memory, we should carry forward her legacy by always remembering that anything is possible with hard work and determination.
Jim Maxwell Memorial Scholarship
Life is like a map, and each step we take on this map is a step toward our goals. You come across twists, turns, and different paths on a map. These features are much like the choices and challenges that we encounter in life. Ultimately, everyone desires to reach the end of their destination, which represents getting your version of success. While everyone wants to reach this point, not everyone does. Success is not only about reaching your destination but also about navigating and learning from challenges, embracing them, and using them as a force to help you keep moving forward. In my journey to success, I have dealt with many obstacles, one of them being my mother’s diagnosis of breast cancer. This obstacle was just a stop on the map to success, but I didn’t let it stop me from my road to success.
January 13, 2021, was a day that changed me and my family’s life forever; a day meant to celebrate another year of my mother’s life turned into a day of sorrow. It felt like the world was crashing down on me. I started to decline in academics and distance myself from my friends, causing my well-being to suffer. It wasn’t until I stumbled upon a video sermon by Sarah Jakes Robert called “Girl, Get Up.” that I found hope. In the video, she talks about finding strength and that it is time to dry your tears and keep moving. She exclaimed that God is changing minds and clearing up visions. The enemy has been served notice. You have to get out of that mindset and get up. As I watched her speak her words to me, I started to break down. I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders. The words “Girl, Get Up” echoed in my mind. Since then, I have felt a sense of empowerment. I knew I had the resilience to keep going at that moment and realized I didn’t want to waste my days feeling sorry for myself.
I wanted to become an occupational therapist. I want to cherish every moment with my friends and family. I want to be happy. I want to honor God. Those are the things I should focus on. I started prioritizing my self-care and sought constructive outlets to put my energy into, and I became deeply intrigued by creating content for social media. Today, my mother is now in remission. While this time in my life was difficult, it was also a time of growth. The personal growth that I will use in my journey on the map to success.
Looking ahead, I have outlined a path for my future. I dedicate myself to succeeding in life and utilize my faith to guide me to greater heights in the future. Yet, anyone can say that. What makes me different from anyone else trying to succeed? Why me? Why not me? The difference between me and others is that I don’t just talk about wanting to achieve. I am actively pursuing my goals through academic achievement and daily actions. I am currently pursuing a summer job as an Occupational Therapist Technician, volunteering at Salvation Army and Spelman, actively pursuing my Health Science degree, and being an active member in John Gray’s church online. Helping others is so impactful; it gives me a sense of personal satisfaction, and my mother’s health challenges also inspire it. Furthermore, I am dedicated to reaching my destination on my map, no matter the obstacles. I am confident and see a prosperous future for me, God, my family, and my community.
William A. Stuart Dream Scholarship
Throughout my life, I have always been told to achieve for the greater good and strive for excellence. From a young age, my parents instilled that mediocrity was never an option. My parents are educators, meaning they held me and my siblings to a high standard regarding our education and goals in life. As a result, my upbringing was characterized by a strong emphasis on academic achievement and critical thinking. My education goals are to maintain a high GPA and understand the curriculum for each class I take at Spelman and beyond. I also strive to engage in extracurricular activities on campus. These organizations and clubs have broadened my perspective, developed my leadership skills, and helped me to realize that true education extends beyond the confines of the classroom.
Moreover, my career goals are based upon achieving a career in Pediatric Occupational Therapy and opening my own practice that specializes in autistic skills with motor skills. I want to impact lives by improving individuals’ physical and mental well-being for kids of all backgrounds. Inspired by the example set by my parents, who dedicated their lives to nurturing young minds, I aspire to follow in their footsteps. I envision my future practice as more than just a clinic; I want to be a sanctuary of healing and growth. A place to empower kids to become their best selves. I am committed to partnering with families and caregivers, equipping them with the knowledge and support they need to become active participants in their child’s journey toward wellness and independence.
Additionally, I aspire to be a voice for change and to advocate for greater awareness of autism. Growing up, I realized the challenges that my older brother went through dealing with having autism. I witnessed firsthand the challenges my brother and my parents had to go through. His journey has illuminated the path for what I want to do in life.
If awarded this scholarship, it would serve as a cornerstone in my journey to my career and educational goals. In addition, it is helping me get the proper education to open up my practice shortly. As I am going into my sophomore year of college, I am struggling to find the funding. If not awarded enough money, I must delay my sophomore year.
I am confident that I can achieve my educational and career goals, ultimately fulfilling my vision of empowering children to become their best selves and advocating for greater awareness and acceptance of autism.
In conclusion, this scholarship is the key that unlocks the doors to my aspirations in Pediatric Occupational Therapy. With its support, I can pursue my studies and gain valuable experience. This scholarship is not just financial aid; it's the fuel that propels me toward positively impacting the lives of children and families. I am grateful for this opportunity and ready to embark on my dreams.

Seeing the occupational therapist work with my brother and his motor skills improve while enjoying the appointment opened my eyes to the profound impact this profession could have on people’s lives. I have learned that Occupational therapy enables people to engage in meaningful activities and live fully. It’s all about people interacting with their environment in unique ways, which I want to provide for the community and the world.
As a black woman pursuing a profession in STEM, I recognize how important it is to have representation and diversity in my community. I want to create spaces and influence for underrepresented communities to help them learn more about STEM. I have always yearned to see someone who looked like me in the healthcare field, but every time I would go to my doctor’s appointments, it would be a white male or woman. As I pursue a career in Occupational Therapy, I want to challenge these stereotypes and inspire others to pursue their passions in STEM. I will break barriers and advocate diversity and inclusion within and outside the field, serving as a role model for future generations and empowering them to do anything they put their mind to.
In conclusion, my passion for the field of STEM arises from my deep-seated love for science and my empathy for helping people. As a black woman, I understand my challenges but refuse to let society define me. That’s why I have decided to continue my education by majoring in health science at Spelman College. I know that gender or skin color will not judge me. As I move forward, I plan to use the ideas of science and art in my career to impact this world positively.

I dedicate myself to succeeding in life. Yet, anyone can say that. What makes me different from anyone else trying to succeed? Why me? Why not me? The difference between me and others is that I don’t just talk about wanting to achieve. I am actively pursuing my goals through academic achievement and daily actions. I am currently pursuing a summer job as an Occupational Therapist Technician, volunteering at Salvation Army and Spelman, and actively pursuing my Health Science degree. Helping others is so impactful it gives me a sense of personal satisfaction, but it’s also inspiration from my mother's health challenges. Furthermore, I am dedicated to reaching my destination on my map, no matter the obstacles. I am confident and see a prosperous future for me, my family, and my community.

It was a youthful green and beige house on Wicklander Drive, nestled between the trees of rural Georgia. This house was more than just a physical structure; it was a vessel that held the essence of my life for 16 years. I was born into a loving and supportive family environment.
A family who has always been by my side, guiding me through the ups and downs of life’s journey. I am the middle child, squeezed between my younger and older brother. My parents are both educators, so they instilled in us a deep appreciation for learning and pursuing knowledge at a very young age. In addition, this house was where my imagination took me to faraway places, where I got ready for my first formal, where I learned my mom was diagnosed with cancer, and where my sibling’s laughter echoed through the halls. However, this was where I found my passion for wanting to help others through my career as an occupational therapist.
I discovered my passion lies in helping others at a very young age. I often crave something more feminine in legos, action figures, and video games. I was often lonely as the only girl out of my siblings. During those moments of loneliness, I would find my imagination running wild. So, I began to set free in the realm of creativity. Drawing, coloring, and crafting became my sanctuary, a space to give form to my thoughts, emotions, and dreams.
I attend Spelman College, an all-girls HBCU in Atlanta, GA; it is the #1 HBCU worldwide. Attending an HBCU holds a special place in my heart. Attending an institution like Spelman means that I am at an institution that allows me and every black girl that attends here to pursue higher education without being withheld from any opportunities based on gender or race. It is also a place that embodies my rich African history and where I can learn about my heritage and become my best self. I am not just a student; I am part of a legacy.
As I have gotten older, I noticed that my interests were aligned with a deep empathy for helping people. My love for creativity and desire to help others could be channeled into one profession: Occupational Therapy. I was intrigued by using my imagination and passion for science to help others. It wasn’t until I met an occupational therapist that I discovered it was my true calling. Seeing the Occupational Therapist work with individuals with their challenges opened my eyes to the profound impact this profession could have on people’s lives. I have learned that Occupational therapy enables people to engage in meaningful activities and live life fully. It’s all about people interacting with their environment uniquely and adapting interventions to suit their circumstances.
My career interests lie in helping others, so I have chosen the field of Occupational Therapy pathway. I want to help individuals regain their independence and quality of life, especially in the face of physical and emotional challenges. I want to become a world-changer and be an advocate for the world. My career interests in occupational therapy are not merely a choice but a calling, a path that I hope to inspire and empower others to overcome challenges and live life to the fullest.
I intend to open my own practice specializing in occupational therapy for children with autism. This practice will be a safe and nurturing environment where children can receive individualized care and support, enabling them to develop essential life skills and reach their full potential. The practice will also offer guidance and counseling to families, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to support their children effectively. My education will be the cornerstone of this initiative, providing me with the expertise necessary to create a holistic and practical therapeutic environment.
In conclusion, my passion for the field of STEAM arises from my deep-seated love for science and my empathy for helping people. As a black woman, I understand my challenges but refuse to let society define me. That’s why I have decided to continue my education by majoring in health science at Spelman College. I know I won’t be judged by gender or skin color. As I move forward, I plan to use the ideas of science and art in my career to make a positive impact on this world.

Sean Carroll's Mindscape Big Picture Scholarship
In a world filled with questions and mysteries, I ask myself about the nature of our universe. Countless ideas run through my mind as I gaze upon the night sky; I can’t help but wonder about the stars that have illuminated our history and the galaxies beyond. Understanding our universe’s nature is a profound and timeless process that can captivate the human imagination. Our society must understand the unraveling of the mysteries of our universe and be able to discuss ideas and concepts that can guide us in this remarkable endeavor.
Gaining insights into our universe is vital because it can provide us with an understanding of nature and its workings. It provides us with technological advancement a cosmic perspective and gives humans new curiosities. Over the years, we have generated groundbreaking technological advances. For example, GPS, which stands for Global Positioning System, has provided users with positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) services throughout this last decade. There are many other devices that have innovated our world and improved our daily lives. It is incredible that the human mind can make such innovative things. Our universe provides a blank canvas where we can paint our ideas, either our scientific endeavors or technological dreams.
From our comic perspectives, countless individuals dedicate their lives to studying our universe, and their endeavors illuminate the vastness of human knowledge—for example, one of the famous astronomers, Galileo Galilei. He is renowned for being the first to report telescopic observations of the mountains on the moon, the moons of Jupiter, the phases of Venus, and the rings of Saturn. Among him, others have made groundbreaking observations that have forever changed our view of the world. Each contributes a unique piece to the universe’s nature and origins puzzle.
Human Curiosity and Intellectual Growth are some of the most critical parts of our understanding of the nature of our universe. Humans make the universe. Our minds are the driving force of unveiling the cosmic mysteries surrounding us. Many of us ask ourselves: What is the nature of dark matter? How do galaxies form and evolve? What happened before the Big Bang? These questions help us to reflect on our lives and how we came about. Moreover, humans make the universe understandable. Using our ideas, we have developed the tools, methods, and frameworks.
The ideas and concepts that can help us employ a better understanding of the universe. Some ideas and concepts we can use are the scientific method, interdisciplinary collaboration, quantum mechanics and general relativity, and multiverse hypothesis. The scientific method provides a foundation for an understanding of the universe. There are seven steps of the scientific method: Question, Research, Hypothesis, Experiment, Data Analysis, Conclusion, and Communication. By using this method,
we can ensure that our understanding of the universe remains rooted in the objective and verifiable.
I greatly appreciate all the physicists, astronomers, biologists, chemists, and philosophers who have dedicated their lives to unraveling the mysteries of this world. Their efforts have forever changed our world, not only expanding the pool of human knowledge but also the betterment of our society. We owe an outstanding debt of gratitude to the individuals who have dedicated themselves to exploring the mysteries of the universe. Their work enriches our understanding and contributes to our collective knowledge. We must also recognize the interconnection of their efforts and the profound impact they have on humanity’s intellectual and spiritual growth.
Two of the most critical concepts of the bigger picture are the factors of Quantum Mechanics and the Multiverse Hypothesis. Quantum Mechanics gives us a deep understanding of the behavior of all particles in our universe to the smallest amount of matter. It describes the conduct of the universe and combines theories from philosophers and astronomers. Employing this idea in society can help our understanding of the microcosmic world, shedding light on the astonishing behavior of particles at the quantum level. The Multiverse Hypothesis is the multi-universe concept, which means there are different notions of the universe. It provides us with the most profound mysteries, such as the nature of dark matter and dark energy.
Overall, the quest to understand the nature of our universe is an imperative journey that transcends individual interests and has far-reaching implications for humanity. It satisfies our innate curiosity, drives technological progress, and fosters a sense of interconnectedness. By employing the scientific method, encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration, and exploring cutting-edge concepts like the multiverse hypothesis, we can continue to unlock the mysteries of our universe and, in doing so, advance our collective knowledge and perspective on the cosmos. This ongoing pursuit is a testament to human ingenuity, our capacity for discovery, and our commitment to the relentless exploration of the unknown.

On this earth, helping others is an action every individual should pursue. Whether a simple gesture or a sacrifice, the essence of helping others is a universal language. It is the food that nourishes the soul and the bridge that connects hearts across diverse landscapes. When I think about helping others, I think of being selfless. Kindness is about the impact that someone has on the lives of those in need, along with personal experiences that highlight the power of selfless actions. It’s important to know that helping others embodies our humanity and is a testament to our capacity for empathy and a commitment to the greater good.
Helping others is a ripple effect. When individuals see acts of generosity and compassion, they are more inclined to engage in similar behaviors. For example, when someone buys the meal of the person behind them in a drive-thru. This becomes an ongoing cycle of kindness just by this little act. Yet this ripple effect is not limited to the drive-thru line. This ripple effect can happen anywhere, whether volunteering or helping your friends; when you decide to put your time and energy into something, it ultimately inspires others to do the same.
In addition, when you help others, you are not only benefiting them, but you are also benefiting yourself. Helping others is a catalyst for personal growth. When an individual engages in an act of kindness, or not only assisting the receiver, you gain a sense of purpose that will boost your well-being. Also, you can gain new skills and learn from experiences that you can use to help more people and yourself. Helping others is the path to a fulfilling life journey. This leads us to a world full of compassion and a fulfilling life. Selflessness’s benefits extend beyond kindness; it’s all about leaving an indelible mark on this world.
Furthermore, in this ever-changing world, the importance of helping others remains constant. Helping others is a reminder that our actions, no matter how small, can create a ripple that reaches far and wide. We can become a powerful harmony of compassion, resilience, and positive change if we are individuals. In times of uncertainty, I have contributed to helping others. For example, I volunteer and donate food to local food pantries during the pandemic. These opportunities have not only allowed me to make a difference but have also provided me with a sense of purpose during these challenging times. Helping others has been my anchor and is something I do monthly.
In conclusion, helping others is essential. It not only touches the lives of countless individuals but also leaves an indelible mark on the world and is growing to become a catalyst for positive change. Creating a ripple effect across the world of positive change is bound to transform our world into a more caring, empathetic, and equitable place. As the saying goes, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.”

I grew up in a generation where people often think Generation Z is characterized solely by electronics and our screen time on them. Yet, they need to realize we are the generation that will defy the world and create a positive impact. In the world we live in, we should equip ourselves with the knowledge to thrive in the world. In the words of President Franklin Roosevelt, he states, “This generation has a rendezvous with destiny.” Though this statement was initially intended for the Greatest Generation, I believe it can also resonate with Generation Z-Millennials. Our world is rapidly changing at a pace from technology to climate crisis. By increasing our understanding of history, politics, religion, and finance, we can better prepare ourselves to thrive and contribute to positive change. The short text “Ode To Millennials-Gen Z” encapsulates the potential and challenges of two generations, the Millennials and Generation Z, and how we often find ourselves at the crossroads of history. I believe that we should urge ourselves to embrace our strengths as we navigate a path toward the future.
One of the most compelling aspects of the text is the recognition of the comparison between Millennials-Gen Z and the Greatest Generation. As we know, the economy has had low incomes and high unemployment rates. I have observed first-hand how the economy has shaped our lives, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. I often reflect on the resilience of my generation as we confront these hurdles with a sense of duty and determination. The pandemic left the world starstruck as our economic systems crumbled, jobs were taken, and businesses shuttered. Yet, as a part of the Millennials-Gen Z generation, we will embrace our sense of duty. We are carrying the torch to create innovation to stabilize the economy.
Moreover, the text is committed to addressing societal issues like history, politics, religion, and finance. In this generation, we have the power to research anything just in a quick search. This equips us with the knowledge to alter how we engage with the world and tackle these issues. In past generations, learning was much more challenging, and sources were limited, so people weren’t as innovative. Millennials-Gen Z generation can gain a deeper understanding of the world by delving into numerous topics. Our generation has normalized the course of financial struggle, and I believe as we grow older, we will make a positive impact on our economy. Despite being characterized by our screen time and love for electronics, we are not limited to these stereotypes. The text encourages us to leverage our ability to research and understand the multifaceted issues that define our times.
As I read the text, the question lingers about whether Millennials and Gen Z can become “The Greatest Generation 2.0”. While no two generations are entirely alike, we both have the qualities of resilience and the commitment to address societal issues. We have leaders like Greta Thunberg, Nadya Okamoto, and Malala Yousafzai, and that is just naming a few. All these activists have made profound impacts, and more is yet to come. The text reminds me that generational divides should not be barriers but opportunities for collaboration and learning.
In conclusion, the Ode To Millennials-Gen Z text serves as a reminder of the potential for positive change. It is essential to recognize the unique qualities of our generation while fostering intergenerational understanding. Reflecting on this text, I am inspired to embrace my role and become a world changer in this generation. I want to support the endeavors of my age in navigating our time on this earth, for we will become “The Greatest Generation 2.0” and lead us toward a brighter future.

The heart of every vibrant community lies a church. My family and I attend the local church called Leland Quest in Mableton, Georgia. My church is a place of hope, compassion, and service. I would serve as an usher, perform in the youth choir or praise team, and present the church’s monthly announcements. The place is more than just a place for worship; it helped me build my values and commitment to community service. My involvement in my local church has enriched my faith and been the foundation for meaningful service.
Growing up, I grew up in a sanctuary of sound and soul. Early Sunday mornings, my mother dressed me in my Sunday best while my father cooked a grand breakfast in the kitchen. My siblings and I would have matching church outfits, and we would travel 20 minutes to the spoken word of the lord. We would bask in praise for two hours, filling the room with harmonies. After the fellowship, we would share a soulful meal that was as rich in flavor in the church basement. Laughter and conversation filled the air as we nourished our bodies and our bonds of friendship and faith.
At Leland, I found a welcoming environment that encouraged me to connect with others who were committed to service, just like me. I will never forget an usher named Ms.Bridget, who introduced me to community service. With ours, the church’s monthly food and clothes pantry. Ms. Bridget became a mentor and a friend, guiding me through my community service work. She became like a second mother to me in the church. Teaching me the importance of empathy and actively listening to the stories of those we were helping. Over the years, she has taught me the significance of treating everyone with dignity and respect, regardless of their circumstances. To this day, I still hold her in the highest regard as a role model and source of inspiration.
In my community at Spelman College, the values and principles I learned through my church involvement continue to guide me as I navigate this new journey’s unique challenges and opportunities. Just as I found a supportive network of like-minded individuals in the church, I discovered a similar community at Spelman, where we work together to address various social issues and uplift those in need. Spelman is a sisterhood; it has provided a haven of safety and support, shielding me from the challenges of a world that often feels harsh and unforgiving. Moreover, the mentorship from Ms. Bridget at my local church has equipped me with invaluable skills and a profound understanding of empathy and active listening. These qualities have proven to be indispensable in my service endeavors at Spelman. As I continue my journey, I carry the principles instilled by my church, knowing that they serve as a guiding light in my pursuit of life.
Overall, I credit my local church for influencing me and the service I provide for Spelman College’s community. The values, mentorship, and inclusive environment I experienced in the church have seamlessly translated to my college experience, enriching my service endeavors and empowering me to make a meaningful impact on my campus and beyond.

It was a youthful green and beige house on Wicklander Drive, nestled between the trees of rural Georgia. This house was more than just a physical structure; it was a vessel that held the essence of my life for 16 years. This was a place where my imagination took me to faraway places, a place where I got ready for my first formal, a place where I learned my mom was diagnosed with cancer, a place where me and my sibling's laughter echoed through the halls. In the world of legos, action figures, and video games, I often find myself craving something more feminine. I was often lonely as the only girl.
During those moments of loneliness, I would find solace in my imagination. I began to discover a haven that transported me to – the realm of creativity. Drawing, coloring, and crafting became my sanctuary, a space where I could give form to my thoughts, emotions, and dreams. The blank canvas or the empty page became a place where I could pour my heart out in colors, lines, and textures.
Throughout the years, my creativity became a compass, pointing me toward a path that would allow me to make a difference in the lives of others. In high school, I started to notice that my interests were aligned with a deep empathy for helping people. I realized that my love for creativity and my desire to help others could be channeled into a profession. Mind, Body, & Soul Scholarship
Embarking on the journey of college is undoubtedly an exhilarating experience. It offers a plethora of opportunities for personal growth, intellectual stimulation, and the chance to explore diverse fields of study. However, it is crucial to maintain a healthy mind, body, and soul amidst the challenges that arise during this transformative period.
One of the most exciting aspects of going to college is having the opportunity to delve deep into my major which is Health Sciences. I am intrigued to dive deeper into it. College exposes us to a wealth of knowledge and diverse perspectives. Engaging in academic exploration allows us to develop critical thinking skills, expand our intellectual horizons, and pursue our passions. By immersing ourselves in stimulating coursework, participating in thought-provoking discussions, and seeking guidance from professors, we can truly make the most of our college experience.
Another thing I am excited about is that college is known to serve as a bridge between adolescence and adulthood, providing a unique environment for personal growth and self-discovery. My newfound independence offers a chance to explore our interests, make decisions, and take responsibility for our actions. Engaging in extracurricular activities, joining clubs and organizations, and pursuing hobbies help us cultivate new skills, expand our social networks, and foster personal development. College becomes an avenue for building resilience, developing leadership abilities, and nurturing our individuality for me and all upcoming students.
When I reach campus, I will be immediately introduced to a melting pot of cultures, ideologies, and perspectives. Interacting with individuals from different backgrounds broadens our worldview and enhances our understanding of the world. This opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations, learn from other's experiences, and challenge our preconceived notions helps us become more open-minded, tolerant, and empathetic individuals. Embracing diversity allows us to develop a sense of global citizenship and enriches our personal and intellectual growth.
I have always maintained a healthy mind, body, and soul. While in college it may be challenging, but self-care will always be a top priority for me. Establishing a routine that includes sufficient sleep, regular exercise, and healthy eating habits is vital to every human being. Additionally, engaging in activities that bring joy and relaxation, such as reading, meditation, or pursuing creative outlets, can help alleviate stress and promote mental well-being.
Finding a healthy balance between academic responsibilities and leisure activities is essential for someone's overall well-being. While academics are crucial, it is equally important to take breaks, engage in social interactions, and participate in recreational activities. This balance allows for rejuvenation, prevents burnout, and fosters a more productive and fulfilling college experience.
Nurturing meaningful connections with peers, mentors, and support networks is also crucial for maintaining a healthy mind, body, and soul. Engaging in open and honest communication, seeking guidance when needed, and participating in collaborative projects can enhance both academic and personal growth. Building a support system fosters resilience, provides emotional support, and creates a sense of belonging within the college community.
College is an exciting phase in life, offering numerous opportunities for personal, intellectual, and emotional development. By embracing academic exploration, personal growth, and cultural exchange, we can make the most of our college experience. However, it is equally important to prioritize self-care, balance work, and play, and foster supportive relationships to maintain a healthy mind, body, and soul. By incorporating these strategies into our college journey, we can navigate the challenges with resilience, embrace the excitement, and emerge as well. Self-care is just as important as Academics.

High school is a transformative period in one's life, filled with experiences that shape our character and mold us into the individuals we become. Reflecting upon my own journey through those formative years, I can unequivocally state that embracing diversity has been the most significant experience that has shaped me into the person I am today. It was during these years that I learned the profound value of inclusivity, empathy, and open-mindedness, which have become the guiding principles that shape my interactions, decisions, and contributions to society.
At my high school, diversity was not limited to race or ethnicity alone; it encompassed a tapestry of backgrounds, cultures, beliefs, and perspectives. This rich tapestry of diversity provided me with the opportunity to interact with individuals from various walks of life, each with their unique stories and experiences. The classroom became a microcosm of the world, and it was within this vibrant environment that I discovered the beauty and strength that diversity brings.
Initially, navigating through such diversity presented challenges. Stereotypes and biases were prevalent, and cliques formed along familiar lines. However, I realized that these barriers were mere illusions that limited our growth and understanding. Determined to break them down, I actively sought opportunities to engage with students from different backgrounds. Through these interactions, a remarkable transformation occurred within me. I developed a deep sense of empathy and an understanding that everyone's journey is unique and worthy of respect. I learned to see the world through different lenses, considering various perspectives before forming my opinions. This shift in mindset fostered a profound appreciation for the richness that diversity brings to our lives.

I realized that eradicating these biases began with personal actions and intentional choices. I became an advocate for inclusivity, using my voice to address misconceptions and promote acceptance. By organizing awareness campaigns and engaging in open dialogue, I aimed to create an environment where diversity was celebrated rather than tolerated.
The experience of embracing diversity not only shaped my interactions with others but also propelled my personal growth. I discovered that true growth occurs when we step outside our comfort zones, embrace the unfamiliar, and push the boundaries of our understanding. Each encounter with diversity became an opportunity for self-reflection and growth, allowing me to become more adaptable, resilient, and compassionate.
As I step into this next chapter of my life, I navigate through the world beyond high school, and the lessons learned during those transformative years continue to guide me. I believe selflessness is the simple act of placing the needs of others above our own, which is a remarkable virtue that fosters a sense of unity and compassion in our society. It involves demonstrating empathy, lending a helping hand, and making sacrifices for the betterment of others. Selflessness should embody and can profoundly impact the lives of those in need, along with personal experiences that highlight the power of selfless actions.
Practicing Empathy is a key factor in being selfless and is something that I present in my daily life. Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. By embracing empathy, we open ourselves to the struggles and challenges faced by those around us, allowing us to provide meaningful support. For instance, during my junior year of high school, I vividly recall a time when a close friend was grappling with a family member's loss. Instead of offering her words of comfort, I dedicated my time to listening attentively, providing a shoulder to lean on, and being there through their grieving process. Helping them by reducing their burden and nurturing a deeper bond of trust.
Selflessness encompasses advocating for the rights and equality of marginalized individuals and groups. It involves standing up against injustice and using our voices and resources to create positive change.
Something that I deeply believe in is keeping our surroundings and environment clean; For the wildlife's sake and the earth's.
I actively participate in the Kennesaw Trail Clean-up and I have been since I was in elementary school. It's something me and my family do yearly. When I participate, we clear trails of debris, and trash, and tidy up unstable paths in the mountain trails. I love participating because the impact is often immeasurable and rewarding in every way possible. By embodying selflessness in this manner, I aimed to contribute to society and encourage: compassion, inclusivity, and fairness.
Selflessness often demands personal sacrifice, as it involves prioritizing the well-being of others over our desires. This could manifest in various forms, such as donating time, money, or resources to a charitable cause. One example of my selfless endeavor was participating in a fundraising event for a National Hot Chocolate Run Expo. I dedicated countless hours to preparing the event, engaging with runners, and encouraging others to contribute. While it required substantial effort and personal investment, witnessing the positive impact on the lives of runners participating around Atlanta.
Embodying selflessness is a transformative practice that can positively impact both the lives of others and our own sense of fulfillment. By practicing empathy, extending a helping hand, and making sacrifices, we create a ripple effect of compassion that can reverberate throughout our communities and society. The examples shared in this essay serve as reminders of the immense power we hold to make a difference, no matter how small the gesture may seem. Ultimately, by embodying selflessness, we contribute to a more connected, empathetic, and harmonious world.

Since I was a child I've always had the desire to help others. I've always wanted to gain some sort of skill, that could help others either through the medical or educational field. Eventually leading to me using these skills in my career field of choice which is Occupational Therapy. My ambition is to major in Health Sciences at Spelman College and gain a Master's in Kinesiology at Georgia State University while working as Occupational Therapy Assitant. I want to be able to change people's lives through the skills I have gained. My family is full of educators which means when it came to education it was a serious thing. It was a challenge to reach their expectations, but it was all worth it in the end. I have faced many obstacles in my 17 years of life, but one of the biggest ones is when my mother got diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2021. The day started as an amazing day because it was Mother's birthday we spoiled her with gifts and it brought a smile to my face seeing her happy. It wasn't until later til the phone rang. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was sitting on my parents' bed rambling to them about going back to school for the second semester. As I was rambling I was interrupted by a ring, it was my mother's phone. She picked it up and put it on speaker phone and thought nothing of it. When she answered the nurse sounded a bit sorrowful. I remember the nurse uttering the word, "Mrs. Green Im sorry to inform you that you have breast cancer". My heart sunk into my stomach hearing those words made me feel numb inside. I stood there astonished not knowing what to do at that moment. Water started to overflow in my eyes, I started to pace around the room. My dad told me to sit down to help me calm down, as he which to go fetch my brothers from the living room. As I stood there still in shock, I looked up at my mother and saw her stunned and stuck in a stance leaning towards the ground. My dad walked in my older and younger brother to break the news. Throughout the rest of the day it didn't feel like someone's birthday, it felt like the life in my home was drained and stripped without anything being lefted. This event took a toll on my mental health and my family. Seeing my mom struggling with chemotherapy and being sick all the time was heart-sickening to see. No one wants to see their loved one struggling, but I had to endure that for a year. While this time in my life was a struggle it has made me and my mother's relationship. I have learned not to take life for granted because you never know what going to happen. Life is too short, You only live once.

Knowing your core values is one of the most important things you can have. Core values are the principle that an individual holds in high regard, fundamentally, they act as the driving force in someone's life. Values represent our moral principles, influence how we behave, and serve as a roadmap for our long life journeys. Whether we acknowledge them or not, every human being has them. When it comes to values, I have a few things I hold close to my heart. The values that I will always believe in are our Family, Kindness, Love, Peace, and Growth. Each of these values is applied differently in my everyday life whether at my school or my job. I choose to represent it through my authentic self. When I am volunteering I believe kindness is one of the most important things to have when participating in it. There are many attributes of being kind. But, for me being kind is like a spark from a match that creates a forest fire. The forest is full of rage, and kindness can burn through all those things. I'm kind to people even when I'm not getting anything in return because I know kindness overpowers everything. I feel satisfied knowing that I might have saved someone’s day, week, or even life. You never know what someone's going through so you watch what you say. In my academic studies in school, I choose to show a growth mindset. This is a mindset that is where instead of being discouraged by criticism, you apply it and use it as motivation to improve. I don't take offense to criticism, I just choose to take it as motivation to do better. This is because I believe that my determination to succeed and the desire to make a positive contribution to society through my career are what defines me most as a person. I greatly value the close relationships with my family. I constantly seek to make my family relationship stronger. My family is my inspiration to achieve my goals. As a result, I devote a lot of time and energy to my family, making it a priority to be part of the significant moments in each of their lives such as their birthdays, ceremonies, or even a word of encouragement on test day. I believe that my values help me strive to work harder to achieve the things I want in life, and as a result, I am a better person as a result of them.
