Bio

In the symphony of my life, music became my profound savior—a force shaped by maestros of inspiration. Aspiring to be a muse in the music realm, my journey started in high school, where a spinal injury abruptly ended my competitive swimming career. Encouraged by a friend, I secured a spot in a music internship, delving into sound engineering under the guidance of a transformative mentor. This experience ignited a fervor for music production, reshaping my purpose. Motivated by transformative mentors, I now pursue sound engineering to guide emerging artists and empower others within the industry. In the realm of mental well-being, marked by anxiety, I sought solace and found empathetic professionals who shifted my perspective. Advocating for a compassionate approach, my goal is to dismantle mental health stigma in the music industry, creating supportive spaces for those facing challenges. Adversity, witnessed through my mother's paralysis and my struggle with illiteracy, fuels my aspiration to be a music producer—a calling that blends artistry and innovation. Beyond a profession, it's a manifestation of resilience instilled by past challenges. In music production, I aim to effect meaningful change by giving access to music education for underprivileged musicians. In conclusion, my life's symphony propels me toward a career as a music producer. Fueled by a love for music and a fervent desire to break down barriers, I aspire to empower individuals, irrespective of their circumstances, through the universal language of music, leaving an indelible impact on our world.

Navigating the landscape of mental health has been a transformative journey, leaving an indelible mark on my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations. As someone who grapples with anxiety, my experiences within the mental health industry have been a mix of challenges and, eventually, a newfound appreciation for the positive impact it can have. When I was first diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, my initial encounters with the mental health industry were far from positive. The medical professionals I encountered treated me more as a number on a screen than as an individual with unique struggles. This depersonalized approach left me feeling lost and disconnected, struggling to find the support I desperately needed. It was a disheartening introduction to an industry that plays a crucial role in the well-being of individuals. The negative experiences fueled a determination within me to seek better avenues for support. It took years, but I eventually found professionals who approached mental health with empathy and a personalized touch. This shift marked a turning point, illustrating the profound impact compassionate and individualized care can have on someone facing mental health challenges. This past year, I encountered mental health professionals who not only acknowledged my struggles but also worked collaboratively with me to tailor a treatment plan suited to my needs. This positive experience reshaped my perspective on the mental health industry. It highlighted the importance of viewing individuals holistically, recognizing that mental health is a nuanced and personal journey that requires understanding, patience, and empathy. As I reflect on my own journey, it has significantly influenced my beliefs about mental health. I firmly believe that every person grappling with mental health challenges deserves to be seen and heard, not reduced to a mere statistic. This belief has strengthened my commitment to fostering a more compassionate and individual-focused approach within the mental health industry. My relationships, too, have been profoundly impacted by my experiences with mental health. The support I received from understanding friends and family members during challenging times reinforced the significance of empathy in building meaningful connections. These relationships have become a source of strength, emphasizing the importance of a supportive network for mental well-being. In terms of career aspirations, my struggles with mental health have guided my trajectory, particularly as I pursue a career in music. Music has been a solace for me, providing an outlet for expression and a source of comfort during difficult moments. Recognizing the therapeutic power of music, I am driven to contribute positively to the mental health industry through my chosen path. The negative experiences I encountered initially fueled a desire to ensure that others don't face the same struggles. As someone aspiring to work in the music industry, I see an opportunity to create a positive impact by fostering an environment that supports individuals facing mental health challenges. My goal is to create spaces within the music industry that prioritize mental well-being, providing resources, understanding, and opportunities for those who may be struggling. I want to dismantle the stigma associated with mental health within the music industry and, more broadly, in society. Through my career, I aim to champion mental health initiatives, creating a space where individuals can openly discuss their challenges without fear of judgment. I aspire to provide jobs and support for those navigating mental health struggles, recognizing the unique healing power that music possesses.

My “why” in the world of visual arts and design is deeply rooted in my passion for helping others achieve their dreams. I’ve been fortunate in my life to accomplish many of my own goals, and I find immense fulfillment in supporting others as they pursue their creative paths. Whether it’s working as a lead sound engineer for a world tour or collaborating on various projects, I love being part of a process that helps artists realize their visions. In today’s world, technology has dramatically changed how we create art. With tools like artificial intelligence, digital art platforms, and automatic scriptwriting software, artists can produce work at an incredible speed and scale. While these advancements are exciting, they also pose a challenge: the pressure to produce quickly can overshadow the depth and meaning behind the art. This “fast culture” often prioritizes efficiency over creativity, which I believe can dilute the artistic experience. My goal is to shift this perspective, encouraging a more thoughtful approach to creation that values the artist’s intent and the stories they want to tell. One of my biggest dreams is to work closely with artists on large-scale projects, such as tours and recordings. I envision a future where I can act as a bridge between the artist and the audience, ensuring that the heart of the music—its emotional core—remains intact. This involves taking the time to truly understand the artist’s vision and the experiences that shape their work. I believe that without this understanding, we risk losing the essence of what makes a piece of art meaningful. As I continue my studies in the arts, I am particularly interested in creating projects that merge visual storytelling with music. One of my lifelong ambitions is to develop a graphic novel that captures the journeys of musicians as they navigate their careers. This graphic novel would not only showcase their struggles and triumphs but also delve into the inspirations behind their music. By using a visually engaging medium, I hope to resonate with readers on multiple levels and inspire them to appreciate the depth of artistic expression. Additionally, I dream of producing a documentary series that highlights the intersection of music and visual arts. Each episode would feature different artists, exploring their creative processes and the personal stories that inform their work. This series would serve as a platform for artists to share their narratives, emphasizing the importance of understanding the context behind their creations. By giving voice to these artists, I aim to foster a deeper appreciation for the complexities of the creative process. In both these projects, my focus will be on storytelling. I want to capture the moments that often go unnoticed—the late-night brainstorming sessions, the struggles with self-doubt, and the bursts of inspiration that lead to breakthrough moments. These elements are what make art relatable and powerful, and I believe they deserve to be shared. Ultimately, my motivation stems from a desire to create an environment that values artistic integrity and encourages a slower, more thoughtful approach to creation. I want to help artists fully realize their visions and remind them of the reasons behind their work. By doing so, I hope to contribute to a culture that not only celebrates creativity but also cherishes the stories that give it life. This is the legacy I aspire to build in the visual arts and music industries, and it drives me every day to pursue my passion.

In the symphony of life, my career goal harmonizes with a passion for music production, a melody that has been shaping my aspirations. I aspire to become a music producer, not just crafting beats but orchestrating emotions and stories through sound. The path to this dream is illuminated by a combination of education, industry experience, and the nurturing of valuable connections. Enrolling in a school dedicated to music production is a pivotal note in my journey. It's more than just acquiring knowledge; it's about refining the artistry and technical acumen required in this dynamic field. As I step into the world of academia, my goal is not only to absorb the theories but to immerse myself in hands-on experiences that transform textbook lessons into real-world skills. The classroom becomes my studio, and the coursework becomes a series of compositions that shape my understanding of the intricate nuances of music production. It's a place where creativity is nurtured, technical proficiency is honed, and the foundation for a career in the music industry is solidified. This educational odyssey is not just about obtaining a degree; it's a transformative process that molds me into a proficient and insightful music producer. However, the classroom is only one part of the score. The industry itself is a rich tapestry of experiences waiting to be woven into my musical journey. While attending school, I plan to engage in internships, work opportunities, and collaborations within the music industry. These experiences are the bridges connecting theory to practice, providing me with the real-world exposure crucial for a music producer. Networking is the hidden rhythm that propels careers forward. In the music industry, contacts are not just professional connections; they are the collaborators, mentors, and supporters who elevate one's craft. While in school, I'll actively seek opportunities to build a network, attending industry events, connecting with professionals, and participating in collaborative projects that resonate with my musical vision. Music is not just a solitary endeavor; it's a communal celebration of creativity. My warm and inviting approach extends beyond the melodies I craft; it permeates my interactions within the industry. Building relationships isn't a task; it's an organic process fueled by a shared love for music. It's about collaborating with fellow musicians, producers, and industry experts who share the same passion for creating sonic landscapes. Achieving my goal as a music producer is not just about reaching a destination; it's about savoring the journey, each note a step closer to the crescendo of my aspirations. The warmth in my tone reflects a genuine love for the craft, a love that transcends the technicalities and dives deep into the emotional currents that music evokes. In conclusion, my journey to becoming a music producer is a harmonious blend of education, industry experience, and genuine connections. The warm and inviting tone I bring to this pursuit is not just a professional demeanor; it's a reflection of my deep-seated passion for music. With each chord and every connection, I am composing a narrative that resonates not only with my aspirations but with the collective heartbeat of those who find solace and joy in the universal language of music.

When I was just five years old, my family's life took an unexpected turn due to my mother's spinal stroke. This sudden change thrust us into a world of medical appointments and constant medication, placing a tremendous financial burden on our household. As my mother's condition required ongoing care and medication, my family's financial stability eroded quickly. We relied on government assistance programs such as food stamps to meet our basic needs. At the same time, my father's role as my mother's sole caregiver further strained our already tight resources. Balancing caregiving with supporting three children made it nearly impossible for him to find a job to meet our financial needs. I had to step up and contribute to my family's income from a young age. While managing the demands of school, I worked at least 20 hours per week throughout high school. By my senior year, I worked full-time as a server to help support my family. This juggling act taught me resilience and time management but highlighted our ongoing financial challenges. In addition to these financial hardships, my academic journey has been marked by significant personal struggles. Diagnosed with a learning disability in second grade, I faced severe difficulties with reading and spelling, which were not fully addressed until middle school. By sixth grade, I was reading at only a first-grade level, which led to feelings of inadequacy and frequent bullying. My turning point came when my teachers recognized my potential and introduced me to leadership programs like the Technology Student Association. These programs sparked my passion for leadership and public speaking, culminating in an international debate competition win in seventh grade. This success helped me realize that my learning differences did not define my intelligence. Understanding that I am an auditory learner, I adapted my study habits by listening to textbooks and assignments, which allowed me to excel academically. A deepening love for music accompanied my transformation from a struggling student to a straight-A achiever. Music became my refuge and gave me a sense of community, helping me navigate my academic and personal challenges. This passion for music led me to pursue a career in music production at the University of Central Oklahoma. My love for music extends beyond just personal enjoyment—it drives my career aspirations. I am deeply committed to becoming a live sound engineer, a role that combines my technical skills with my passion for music. The intricate process of creating and manipulating sound in real time during live performances fascinates me. I am excited about the prospect of working behind the scenes to enhance the auditory experience for audiences, ensuring that every note and nuance is delivered with precision. The creative process of making music and mastering sound technology captivates me. I am dedicated to using my skills to excel in this field and support others who face similar challenges. My journey and experiences have equipped me with a unique perspective that will be invaluable in my career. Despite the obstacles I have faced due to my learning disability and my family's financial struggles, I have remained determined to succeed. My experiences have taught me resilience and the importance of finding and embracing one's unique path. Your support would not only help ease the financial strain on my family but also enable me to contribute meaningfully to the field of music and support others who may face similar challenges. We found ourselves relying on government assistance programs such as food stamps to meet our basic needs, while my father's role as my mother's sole caregiver further strained our already tight resources. Diagnosed with a learning disability in second grade, I faced severe difficulties with reading and spelling, which weren't fully addressed until middle school. This success helped me realize that my learning differences didn't define my intelligence. Understanding that I am an auditory learner, I adapted my study habits by listening to textbooks and assignments, which allowed me to excel academically. A deepening love for music accompanied my transformation from a struggling student to a straight-A achiever. Music became my refuge and provided me with a sense of community, helping me navigate through my academic and personal challenges. This passion for music led me to pursue a career in music production at the University of Central Oklahoma. My love for music extends beyond just personal enjoyment—it's a driving force behind my career aspirations. I am deeply committed to becoming a touring live sound engineer, a role that combines my technical skills with my passion for music. The intricate process of creating and manipulating sound in real-time during live performances fascinates me. I am excited about the prospect of working behind the scenes to enhance the auditory experience for audiences, ensuring that every note and nuance is delivered with precision. At 17, I secured my first internship in the industry, which was a pivotal moment in my career. Since then, I have gained valuable experience working as a lead engineer and head assistant engineer. These roles have allowed me to hone my skills and contribute significantly to live performances, solidifying my desire to work as a touring live sound engineer. I am eager to further my expertise through internships and hands-on experiences, continually learning and growing in this dynamic field. Moreover, I am driven by a desire to represent and support women in the sound engineering industry, where they make up only about 3% of the workforce. By excelling in this field and advocating for more female representation, I hope to inspire other young women to pursue careers in sound engineering and break through barriers in a traditionally male-dominated industry. Despite the obstacles I have faced due to my learning disability and my family's financial struggles, I have remained determined to succeed. My experiences have taught me resilience and the importance of finding and embracing one's unique path. I am applying for this scholarship with the hope that it will alleviate some of the financial burdens of my education and allow me to fully dedicate myself to my studies and career goals in music production and live sound engineering. Your support would not only help ease the financial strain on my family but also enable me to contribute meaningfully to the field of music, support other women pursuing similar careers, and continue to support others who may face similar challenges. Thank you for considering my application and helping students like me achieve their dreams.

In the symphony of my existence, music emerged as my savior—no mere auditory delight, but a profound force sculpted by the maestros of inspiration. I yearn to join their league, aspiring to be the muse for budding aspirations in the realm of music. Diving into high school, I swam competitively with a singular focus, leaving little room for exploration. Yet, a spinal twist in the tale abruptly concluded my aquatic endeavors, plunging me into an abyss of purposelessness. Bemoaning my aimless summer to a friend, I exclaimed, "Swimming was my sole identity!" To my surprise, she urged me to apply for a music internship at a local church, despite my musical novitiate. "Apply and see," she said. Miraculously, I secured a spot, defying my melodic inexperience. Embracing the challenge, I delved into the intricacies of sound engineering, choosing it over performance. In a sea of performers, my mentor, undeterred by my novice status, navigated me through the labyrinth of sound engineering and the music industry. The summer unfolded, shattering my preconceptions, revealing that music transcends mere notes—it encapsulates the collaborative efforts of creators, producers, and consumers. This epiphany reshaped my purpose beyond the pool, kindling a fervor for music production. Motivated by the transformative mentors of the music realm, I now steadfastly pursue sound engineering. My goal? To guide emerging artists through the intricacies of album creation, propelling them toward musical success and empowering others to explore the myriad career avenues within the industry. In the realm of mental well-being, my journey has been a rollercoaster, leaving an indelible mark on my beliefs and aspirations. Wrestling with anxiety, my foray into the mental health industry was initially akin to a dissonant chord. Depersonalized treatment left me adrift, yearning for meaningful support. Determined to find solace, I embarked on a quest, eventually discovering empathetic professionals who tailored a treatment plan to my needs. This positive shift illuminated the nuanced nature of mental health journeys, emphasizing the importance of empathy, patience, and understanding. Reflecting on my odyssey, I advocate for a compassionate, individual-focused approach in the mental health industry. My relationships, shaped by mental health experiences, underscore the significance of empathy in building meaningful connections. As I pursue a career in music, my goal is to dismantle mental health stigma within the industry, creating spaces that prioritize well-being and offer support for those facing challenges. In the intricate tapestry of my life, adversity became a steadfast companion early on. Witnessing my mother's resilience fueled a flame of perseverance, guiding me through subsequent challenges. Navigating illiteracy in elementary school, my struggle became a crucible for determination, shaping my character. Now, on the brink of academic pursuits, I am drawn to the realm where creativity intertwines with technology—I aspire to be a music producer, seamlessly blending artistry and innovation. Beyond a profession, it's a calling, a manifestation of resilience instilled by past challenges. In music production, I envision not just creating melodies but effecting meaningful change. Empathy for those facing socioeconomic barriers propels me to make a profound impact, particularly for those who, like me, have overcome adversity. Democratizing access to music education, my goal is to provide resources and mentorship for underprivileged aspiring musicians, enriching our collective cultural tapestry. In conclusion, my life's symphony, woven with challenges and triumphs, propels me toward a career as a playful yet academic music producer. Fueled by a love for music and a fervent desire to break down barriers, I aspire to empower individuals, irrespective of their circumstances, to express themselves through the universal language of music, leaving an indelible impact on our world.

As a leader, my paramount value lies in maintaining focus within my team and ensuring the timely completion of tasks. One significant experience that underscored this value occurred during my involvement in the Youth Philanthropy Initiative. In this capacity, I spearheaded a team tasked with producing a film addressing the warning signs of human trafficking. This endeavor presented numerous challenges, including tight deadlines that tested the bounds of our creativity and efficiency. To navigate these challenges effectively, I implemented a structured timeline that provided clear direction and fostered a sense of urgency among team members. Despite the pressure of time constraints, I emphasized the importance of maintaining creativity throughout the production process. By striking a balance between structure and freedom, I ensured that our team remained focused on our objectives while allowing space for innovative ideas to flourish. Central to my leadership approach was the establishment of regular check-ins and the provision of constructive feedback. These practices served to cultivate an environment of open communication and accountability, where each team member understood their role in contributing to our collective success. By fostering a sense of ownership and empowerment among team members, I promoted collaboration and unity of purpose, essential elements for achieving our goals. Additionally, I accomplished this by actively listening to my team members' ideas and concerns while maintaining a firm stance on meeting deadlines. By integrating their feedback and perspectives into our decision-making process, I ensured that everyone felt valued and invested in the project's success. However, I also recognized the importance of maintaining a decisive leadership approach when it came to adhering to deadlines, ensuring that our team remained on track to achieve our objectives. The outcome of our collaborative efforts exceeded expectations on multiple fronts. Not only did we successfully meet the demanding deadline, but we also delivered a film of exceptional quality that resonated with our intended audience. The project's success served as a testament to the effectiveness of our leadership approach, which prioritized the fusion of creativity with discipline to achieve outstanding outcomes. Reflecting on this experience, I reaffirmed my commitment to effective leadership that integrates creativity and discipline. By embracing these values, I believe leaders can inspire their teams to reach new heights of achievement while fostering an environment of innovation and excellence. In conclusion, my experience with the Youth Philanthropy Initiative reinforced the importance of maintaining focus and fostering creativity within a team dynamic. By implementing a structured approach, providing regular feedback, and empowering team members, I successfully navigated the challenges we faced and achieved our goals. These principles of effective leadership are integral to my leadership style and will undoubtedly contribute to the success of any community or organization I am a part of.

I firmly believe that every person grappling with mental health challenges deserves to be seen and heard, not reduced to a mere statistic. The support I received from understanding friends and family members during challenging times reinforced the significance of empathy in building meaningful connections. These relationships have become a source of strength, emphasizing the importance of a supportive network for mental well-being. The realm of music proved to be my salvation—not in the mere act of listening to an album, but in the profound influence of the individuals orchestrating the musical tapestry. I aspire to join their ranks, aspiring to serve as an inspiration for the burgeoning ambitions of young adults in music. Embarking on high school as a competitive swimmer, my focus was on excelling in the pool, leaving little room for exploring other interests. However, a spinal fracture resulting from faulty training equipment abruptly terminated my competitive swimming career, leaving me emotionally shattered and adrift in a void of purpose. Struggling to reconcile my identity without the anchor of swimming, I confided in a friend about my aimless summer plans for 2023, lamenting, "I have nothing left. Swimming was my sole identity." In response, my friend suggested applying for an internship at a local church aimed at mentoring young individuals. Skeptical and disheartened, I questioned the relevance of such an opportunity, given my lack of passion and background in music. Her encouraging response—"apply and see"—prompted me to apply. Much to my astonishment, I secured a place in the program despite my frank admission of musical inexperience. Sharing the news with my friend, her enthusiasm underscored the potential for a transformative experience. Intrigued, I delved into the program's intricacies, ultimately choosing the sound engineering track over performance, recognizing my limitations as a vocalist. In a group predominantly inclined towards performance, my mentor, undeterred by my novice status, embraced the role of guiding me through the intricacies of sound engineering and the music industry. The summer unfolded as an enlightening journey, challenging my preconceptions. I gleaned that music transcends the confines of a mere song; it encapsulates the collective efforts of those who create, produce, and consume it. This realization shifted my paradigm, providing a newfound sense of purpose beyond the confines of competitive swimming. The mentorship extended to me kindled a passion for music production, redefining my worldview. Motivated by the transformative impact of those within the music industry who mentored, inspired, and educated me, I am now steadfast in my pursuit of becoming a sound engineer. I aim to contribute to the journey of emerging artists, guiding them through the intricacies of album creation and fostering their ascent to musical success. In giving back to the community that shaped my newfound path, I aspire to empower others to realize the diverse career opportunities within the music industry.

Music saved my life—not through passive listening but by the people behind the music. I aim to become one of those influential figures, inspiring young adults to pursue careers in music. My trajectory shifted dramatically in high school when, as a competitive swimmer, I suffered a spinal fracture, abruptly ending my athletic career. The loss left me grappling with a profound sense of purposelessness. Amidst this uncertainty, a friend suggested an internship at a local church mentoring young people. Skeptical and disoriented, I applied despite lacking any background or passion for music. To my astonishment, I was accepted. On the first day, I opted for the sound engineering group, as my musical talents were limited. This decision led me to a mentor who, contrary to my expectations, embraced my lack of expertise and became a guiding force. Under his tutelage, I delved into the intricacies of sound engineering and the workings of the music industry. The profound lesson emerged that music is not merely a song; it encompasses the people who create, produce, and listen to it. This transformative experience shifted my perspective, providing me with a newfound sense of purpose beyond competitive swimming. The mentor's guidance instilled in me the belief that I could contribute meaningfully to the music industry. I discovered that music is a communal endeavor, and the people within it are the true essence of this art form. This revelation propelled me to aspire to become a sound engineer, driven by the desire to assist young artists in their journey to create albums and become successful musicians. In gratitude for the transformative impact of those who mentored and inspired me, I am compelled to give back to the community. I envision a future where I can, in turn, help aspiring musicians navigate the complexities of music production, just as I was guided.

Specifically, I aim to pave a musical pathway for low-income students, allowing them to procure and nurture their love for music. The world of music, often perceived as a realm of privilege, should be accessible to everyone. In my pursuit of this vision, I plan to establish initiatives that provide not only the technical resources needed for musical expression but also mentorship and affordable educational opportunities for aspiring musicians from underprivileged backgrounds. By breaking down financial barriers, I intend to cultivate a diverse and inclusive community of musicians, amplifying voices that might otherwise remain unheard. My commitment to democratizing access to music education is grounded in the belief that talent is universal, but opportunity is not. Through my initiatives, I aim to bridge this gap, allowing individuals from all walks of life to explore and develop their musical potential. My journey, marked by personal tribulations and triumphs, has bestowed upon me a unique perspective. It fuels my commitment to eradicating barriers to education and artistic expression. I believe that by fostering an environment where passion for music can flourish irrespective of financial constraints, we can unlock untapped potential and enrich our collective cultural tapestry. In conclusion, my life story, intertwined with the challenges of my mother's paralysis and my struggle with illiteracy, has been a testament to the power of perseverance. As I embark on my career as a music producer, I am driven not only by a love for music but by a fervent desire to democratize access to this art form. Through dedicated efforts, I aspire to empower low-income students to embrace and express themselves through the universal language of music, leaving an indelible impact on the world.

Girl, Read A Book Until the 6th grade, I was mainly illiterate and could not read anything above a kindergarten level. I got tested for many different types of learning disabilities but got diagnosed with a specific disability, just a general learning disability. Furthermore, because of this, I never got to do any academic team or anything requiring reading. I often felt stupid and would never amount to anything because if I could not even read a paragraph out loud in front of my class, how could I ever do anything significant with my life? In 7th grade, I finally got above a kindergarten reading level and started reading at a higher level. Because you have this, I felt confident and comfortable trying out for the Technology Student Association. I was extremely nervous because I had never done anything like this, and I knew it would be much reading and much writing speeches about things I had read about on the internet. Going into these types of competitions, I felt I would never do well because I still believed that I could never do anything significant because of my disability. While in TSA, I did a partner debate where you would get 30 minutes to prepare a speech about a topic. My partner and I got first at state that year and went to Nationals in Washington, DC. While we were there, I thought it was just luck that I managed to get there, and I thought the only reason we had called there was because of my partner and not because of anything I had done. I still have no self-confidence in my ability to do something great. Nevertheless, after multiple rounds of competition, we got 8th out of 323 entries. At this point, I finally realized that my disability no longer defined me. I limited myself and what I could accomplish with my life. After this realization, I started going out for more things involving reading, such as school plays and speech and debate teams. If I had not had that realization in 7th grade, I would not have been able to accomplish as much as I have today. It was because I was willing to step out of my comfort zone and give it a try that I realized something I would carry with me for the rest of my life. A disability/diagnosis does not define oneself, but you describe yourself and your capabilities. Finally, after realizing this, I have gone out for the school speech and debate team, the school play, the student council, and many more activities that I would have never thought to go out for. None of these things would have been possible for me to do if I had not realized that I could do great things even with a disability. Along with learning that a disability does not limit people, a person defines themselves. My story shows how hard work that takes place over years and years can finally pay off and show people that disabled people are not broken people or worthless people; it may take us longer to get there, but we will get there. My personal experience with learning disabilities and seeing how many children suffer with some has made me a fierce advocate for the special education system. I made several public speeches demonstrating the importance of improving our special education system and allowing children to access these valuable resources by telling them my testimony and how the special education systems help me.

I was a competitive swimmer when I started high school and could not care less about music. I was obsessed with being the best swimmer and did not explore hobbies. That is until I suffered a spinal fracture due to malfunctioning training equipment. Subsequently, I ended my competitive swimming career. It crushed me so profoundly, and I felt like I had lost all purpose in my life. Because without swimming, who was I? After the ascendant, I talked to a friend about what we planned to do in the 2023 summer. I said ¨ nothing because I have nothing left. I am good at swimming. It was all I had.¨ Then she told me about her internship at a local church mentoring young people. She said if I were not going to do anything this summer, I would apply and see if I could get in. I flat-out told her, " Why would I ever do that? I have no passion for music or background in it. Why would they want me for this program?” She replied ¨ apply and see.” So I did, and to my surprise, I got in. When I told you I was shocked, that was an understatement because I did not hold back in my essay. I told them I had no background in music or knowledge about music or the music industry. I was so confused why they would accept me into their program knowing this about me. I told my friend that I had gotten in, and she was so excited for me and told me how much of a fantastic experience this would be for me. I did not believe her, but I dissected to see what the program was like, and I am so glad I did. On the first day, we were sorted into two groups, one for those who wanted to be performers and those who wanted to do sound engineering. I went with the latter because I can not sing to save my life! So I went off with my group well, there were only two of us, me and the mentor. Everyone else wanted to do the performance side of the program, and I was happy with that because if I were there to learn, the mentor would probably not care about me. But the opposite happened; he took me under his wing that summer and taught me much about sound engineering and the music industry's workings. He taught me what music is and that music is not just a song. It is the people who make, produce, and listen to it. The people are music, not the performers, that changed how I viewed everything. After hearing that, I finally felt capable of doing something other than swimming. Which made me feel like I finally had a purpose in life again because, for so long, all I had was to swim, but now I had to make music, which opened my eyes to a whole new outlook on the world. And because of these people changing how I view the music industry. I want to become a sound engineer so that I can help young artists achieve circles of making albums and becoming successful musicians. Without the people in the music industry who helped me, inspired me, and taught me, I wouldn’t have known that this was even a career path I could’ve gone down. So, I went to get back to the community, and I want to be able to help people produce music.

So, if I had this money, I could focus only on my academics and not worry about money for school.

I am the only female staffer in a twenty-five-person media department for my church. When I accepted this position, I thought being the only female and youngest would make a difference. I affected how people saw me and what people thought I was capable of. This made me feel like I was nervous about succeeding within the media. These situations made me feel like a fish out of water. After a long and hard day at work, I went home and popped in one of my favorite movies, The Deval Wares Porada. The story follows Andy, a struggling journalist who becomes an assistant to the editor of a vast fashion magazine. Andy struggles with her new job because she has never cared about the fashion world. But then Andy realized that she needed to adapt to her environment and learn as much as possible about the fashion industry. This led her to change how she dressed, but learning about this industry made her more confident. This self-confidence helps her realize she can become a great journalist and be more than just an assistant. After seeing all that Andy had gone through, I started to compare her situation to mine. She struggled in her new position because she needed background knowledge about fashion. Just like me because I was an intern who had just started my career. But I knew that to succeed like Andy, and I would have to adverse myself in my newfound job. At the same time, I wish I could have worn top fashion outfits to immerse myself in my career, like Andy. I sat down and read everything that managed media equipment or media software. After doing all of this, I realized how Andy realized she could become a respected journalist because she put in all that work, and her team no longer saw her as a weak link. I could also become a well-respected member of my team. Even though many of them saw me as a weak link, I proved to them by my hard work that I was not, and now I am a full-time assistant director of media productions for my church. Andy's story inspired me to push myself to learn and adapt to this new environment. The most important lesson I have learned from a film recently is that you can accomplish great things if you apply yourself. I could watch this movie repeatedly because it reminds me never to give up and is the best confermovie ever.

Fall Favs: A Starbucks Stan Scholarship
When I was five, my mother had a spinal stroke, and it turns out This was due to her having an autoimmune disorder. Once the doctors figured this out, they told me my mother was going to die. And as a five year old, I couldn’t even comprehend what that meant. After they told me that, my aunt took me to Starbucks, and she got my mom her favorite drink, a pumpkin spice latte. I remember after we got the drink, we took it back to my mom in her hospital room. And my mom was lying there in bed, and she motioned for me to come sit by her. My aunt gave her the drink and left the room, and my mom and I just sat there for hours while I was drinking her drink because she couldn’t lift the cup; she was so sick. My mom wasn’t quite ready to stop fighting; she fought every day to stay where for me and my family. She has now outlived her life expectancy by thirteen years. So now, every single fall, I always on the day that they told me to go to Starbucks and get a pumpkin spice latte for myself and her, and we just sit and talk, and it is our way of celebrating life. Because it is such a simple but significant thing to us because it reminds me and her that time with each other is limited, so we always make sure to get our pumpkin spice lattes on that day because that day was the day that I thought I was going to lose her. She thought she was going to leave with me. So even though many people believe a pumpkin spice latte is just a cool fall time drink. Each time I get that drink, it reminds me that life is short to stop and take time to talk with the people we love it. As well as never take life for granted because, in the blink of an eye, everything you know can change. That is why pumpkin spice lattes will always hold a special place in my heart, because whenever my mom does eventually pass away, hopefully in the far future but whenever she does I know that I can always go to Starbucks and get a pumpkin spice latte and think of her and remember everything she taught me.

In Oklahoma, speech and debate are labeled a competitive sport; we are ranked just as if we were in football or basketball. Once I found this out, I started to participate in the sport due to the fact that if I was competing against people, I realized I would be able to tell my computers about a topic that I found interesting and that I knew that people need to become educated on. Because of how we are labeled a competitive sport, this has changed how I view the impact I will make on my community. Due to the fact that speech and debate allow me to pick any topic I am passionate about, research that issue, and then present a lecture about it. This made me want to become number one in the original oratory. This means I will write a ten-minute speech about how the special education system in the US has been slowly failing its students. And as a special education student, I know how much the system needs help. That is why I love my sport and am passionate about becoming the best speech kid I can be. Because speech and debate give me a platform to educate people on the growing need for legislation to help protect special education. And that is how I am making an impact on my community and by twice a month, giving a speech to roughly 50 people over the course of a Saturday. Those fifty people are just a local competitions, so now that I have been asked to compete on the national travel team. I will travel all around the country, educating people on the importance of special education. Meaning that I will reach around a hundred people per national competition, meaning that over a school year, I will get five hundred people just on the national level. If I include locals, I will get thousands of people this school year alone. This will allow me to impact my local community and people around my country. I hope to educate them, and change their views on special education. And showing them just how vital special education is for students who need it and our community as a whole. This has made my new athletic dream to rank in the top eight at the national competitions because those full eight speeches were recorded and used to show new computers what to emulate in their speech. That would mean that people would see my speech for years to come and have an even more significant impact due to it being on the internet forever. That Is why I continue to try my best at this sport and want even to try and continue this sport in college; thank you.

Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston was written in the 1930s. Hurston wrote the book based on her own turbulent love story. Their Eyes Were Watching God is a unique book for the period because the main character is an African-American female, Janie. She is trying to find a loving partner. The book is about Janie and her journey to find happiness and confidence in herself and her choices in a romantic partnership, not letting doubt and fear get in her way. Hurston used her own turbulent love life as inspiration. Chapter thirteen, page one hundred and sixty-one, best shows this. Janie finds she lost two hundred dollars and is afraid Tea Cake has taken all of it. She is shaken in her confidence in her relationship with Tea Cake. After she realizes her money is gone, she remembers an older lady named Annie Tyler, who also lost her money to younger men. Once Tea Cake returns to Janie, she feels a sense of relief in knowing Tea Cake will not run away with her money and restoring her confidence in her ability to make good choices regarding her romantic partners. The style starts with a tone of hopelessness and fear, and then once Tea Cake returns, it changes to hope for both her future as an individual and her relationship. Zora Neale Hurston uses alliteration to immerse the reader in the character's experiences and feelings. In Chapter 13, Hurston uses personification to show how broken Annie Tylor is when Janie begins to remember Annie. In that, ¨all she discovered was that she was too old a vessel for new wine, ¨(page 161). This personification allows the reader to imagine themself in Annie's position of being old and tired. Hurston also uses plosive alliteration to show how ¨she[Annie] had[did] stood on the streets and smiled and smiled, and then smiled and begged and then just begged,¨(page 161). Hurston uses this alteration because saying the same letter repeatedly, such as the letter b, makes the reader run out of breath. She is leaving the reader feeling physically tired, just as Annie is. Hurston uses personification to show how beat down people can be after a week of world bruising,¨(page 161). It shows how beaten and broken Annie has become after living on the streets for a week. Hurston uses alliteration throughout the passage so that the reader truly understands and sympathizes with what the characters are feeling and experiencing. Hurston uses Tea Cake as a symbol in Janie's life to trust in others and her choices. Janie's tone about her relationship with Tea Cake shifts from one of being happy in the relationship to one of fear. Janie is terrified that she will end up like Annie,¨ it would always be dark to Janie if Tea Cake did not come back soon" (page 161). Janie does not want to end up like Annie, begging for money because she has spent it all on young suitors. ¨He [Tea Cake] peeped up over the doorsill of the world and made a little foolishness with red,¨ (page 161); he has returned to Janie after leaving to get something. When he returns, he is surrounded by a red light, often symbolizing excitement and confidence. This red light shits Janie's tone towards her choice to be with Tea Cake. She goes from fearing being left to reassurance that she has made the right choice in having a relationship with Tea Cake. This type of reassurance is not something Janie is used to having; men from her past relationships have abused Janie. Hurston then uses color alteration to shift the tone of Janie's viewpoint: he[Tea Cake] took her head in his hands and eased himself into the chair, ¨ (page 161). Tea Cake's gentleness with Janie shifts the tone from shock to reassurance as he shows Janie that she is right in her decision. Her fear that Tea Cake would use her for money dissipates. The tone in this passage shifts quite drastically; Hurston uses this to show how fast having a negative outlook can make a bad situation go from bad to worse. Janie's shift in attitude shows the tone shifts in the passage. She goes from being scared she would end up like, ¨she[Annie] was[being] broken, and her pride was[being] gone, (page 161); Jaine remembers this about Annie. She becomes terrified of becoming like her. Janie's self-doubt shifts the tone from happiness to fear of abandonment and self-doubt.¨She[Janie] had waited all her life for something, and it had killed her when it found her,(page 161); this illustrates the perspective shift Janie has. The tone at the beginning of the passage is hopelessness and fear of being stuck in a situation like Annie's. This tone shifts to a reassurance once ¨he[Tea Cake] walked on with a guitar and a grin,¨(page 161). It reassured Janie that she would not end up like Annie and would not be left to beg and that she had made the right choice by choosing to trust Tea Cake. Jane's shifts in perspective allow Hurston to show how a change in emotions can affect how the reader perceives the world around them. Passage from Their Eyes Were Watching God She was broken, and her pride was gone, so she told those who asked what had happened. Flung had taken her to a shabby room in a dilapidated house on a seedy street and promised to marry her the next day. They stayed in the room for two whole days, then she woke up to find Who Flung and her money gone. She got up to stir around and see if she could find him and found herself too worn out to do much. All she learned was that she was too old a vessel for new wine. The next day, hunger had driven her out to shift. She had stood on the streets and smiled and smiled, then smiled and begged, and then just begged. After a week of world bruising, a young man from home had seen her. She could not tell him how it was. She just told him she got off the train and somebody had stolen her purse. Naturally, he had believed her and taken her home with him to give her time to rest up for a day or two; then, he bought her a home ticket. They put her to bed and sent for her married daughter from up and around Ocala to see about her. The daughter came as soon as possible, leaving Annie Tyler to die in peace. She had waited all her life for something, and it had killed her when it found her. The thing made itself into pictures and hung around Janie's bedside, sending spies ahead of him to mark out the road through the dark. He peeped up over the doorsill of the world and made a little foolishness with red. Nevertheless, he pretty soon laid all that aside and went about his business dressed all in white. Nonetheless, it would always be dark for Janie if Tea Cake didn't return. She got out of bed, but a chair couldn't hold her. She dwindled on the floor with her head in a rocking chair. After a while, somebody played the guitar outside her, Dr. playing right innovatively. It sounded lovely t00, But it Was sad to hear it feeling blue like Janie was. Then, whoever it was hard to sing Ring de bells of merely. Call de sinner Mian home." Her heart all but smothered her. "Tea Cake, is dat you?" "You know so well it's me, Janie. How come you don't open the door?" But he never waited. He walked on in with a guitar and a grin. The guitar hanging around his neck with a red silk cord and a grin hanging from his ears. "Don't need tuh ast me were Ah been all dis time, 'cause its mah all day job tuh tell yuh." "Tea Cake, Ah-" "Good Lawd, Janie, what you doin' settin' on the de floor?" He took her head in his hands and eased himself into the chair.

We all need to go back and read The Little Engine That Could because everyone needs to be reminded that If you believe in yourself, you can do anything. So often, as we get older, we forget to Take a step back and just breathe and realize that we can do anything. Everybody should read The Little Engine That Could because this book shows us how every other train told the little engine: You can pull a big load and do this; you are capable. But the little engine said no, watch me. And the little engine proved not only everybody else wrong but proved himself that he could do it because he believed in himself. This message shows people that you just need to take a step back and think about what you’re accomplishing and why you’re trying to accomplish it. That’s why I believe this book is something that everybody should read because it gives us a frame of reference to look back on it and say Well if a little steam engine can accomplish something that seems impossible, then I can achieve something that seems impossible for me whether that be found in a nonprofit to fight for social justice, getting straight A’s, or even passing the test. If we try hard enough and tell ourselves I think I can, I think I can, I think I can, you can’t do it. It will take hard work. But you can do it just like that little engine.
