Pursuing an aviation degree is the most nerve racking and exciting thing I have ever done in my life. My interest in aviation stems from a young age, when I witnessed a plane crash over my house. Even though I did not personally know anyone in this crash, it affected me deeply. It sparked a desire to learn more about how aircraft work and the intricacies of flight. As I grew older, my fascination matured into a concrete ambition to learn everything I could to help prevent more crashes from happening again.
I plan to use my aviation degree to embark on a career as an aviation maintenance technician and to receive my private pilot's license. This goal is not just about flying or fixing planes; it encompasses my passion for travel and connecting with people from various cultures. My inspiration to pursue aviation deepened when I toured Pennsylvania College of Technology and got the chance to get a closer look into so many different aircraft. It was a very anxious and exhilarating moment that confirmed my desire to pursue this path. There are not too many women in aviation, so taking the step into an environment where I felt out of place made me extremely anxious. However, I have been exceedingly fortunate to connect with mentors in the field who have provided valuable insights and guidance. Their enthusiasm for aviation has encouraged me to work hard and remain focused on my objectives. Due to this positive environment I have been able to earn my powerplant half of the license and test early for the airframe half. As well as book flight lessons for this summer to take another large step towards my dreams.
In addition to my academic pursuits, I have also been actively involved in my community. I volunteer at the local YWCA (Young Women's Christian Association) and Williamsport Home spreading love. Furthermore, I have participated in community clean-up initiatives, showcasing the importance of teamwork and responsibility. These experiences have not only helped me develop my leadership skills but have also instilled a sense of pride in contributing to the well-being of my community.
In conclusion, my pursuit of an aviation degree is driven by a lifelong passion for flight, a clear career goal of becoming an aviation maintenance technician and private pilot, and a commitment to my community. I am excited about the journey ahead and the opportunities that lie within the aviation industry. Through dedication and engagement, I aim to make meaningful contributions to the field while inspiring future generations to chase their dreams in aviation.
