WinnerBio
My name is Emily Vu, I attend the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas! I am currently pursuing a Bachelors of Science Degree in Fashion Merchandising with a minor of Business Administration. Fun Fact, I am also a licensed Texas Real Estate Agent and obtained my Associate's Degree in Fine Arts at the age of 18!
My dreams are to hopefully own a business that advocates for the sustainability in apparel! What keeps my drive toward higher education is the love and support from my family, as I am a first generation college student. Textiles and apparel is the number one pollutant to landfills and our waters, my goal is to find a solution in steps to fight against climate change.

"A State of Mind" Texas Scholarship
WinnerBeing a Texan means to me, that your heart is as big as the state. That your mind is open and free as the rolling hill country located in the mid-west, and that our citizens represent each one, out of the trillion, glittering stars that shine bright in the southern night sky. In Texas, not all of us wear cowboy boots. We have Texans that wear construction hats for work, heels to make a fashion statement, or the rainbow to express who they are as an individual. Nothing is better than living in a state so large, that there is enough room to welcome new incomers into our community with open arms. There is no true meaning behind what a Texan is, everyone is all so different. As the number one state to have a current growing diverse population, we all come from different backgrounds, no story is ever the same. However, one thing all Texans have in common is the undeniable southern charm. Southern charm can be portrayed in many ways, but for me, it means that an individual, a stranger or not, still deserves to be treated with kindness and respect. Kindness goes a long way here in Texas, and it can affect a person's day. The sense of community is incomparable to other states. As times are changing, I, a minority am proud to be born and raised in Texas and will always carry around the name, Texan, wherever I go. Once a Texan, always a Texan.
