Hi, I'm Emily and I'm a College Freshman working my way towards pursuing a Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies. For a long time, I've wanted a career that involved helping or providing care for people. At first, this long-term goal seemed like a dream: as I was too young to understand what it meant to have someone's care in my hands. However, as I began taking Phlebotomy to earn Patient Care Hours towards graduate school and performing blood draws on my own, I realized how important my role is in a patient's care; which is why I want to do my best to make people feel comfortable in an otherwise uncomfortable situation. Now that I have my National Certification, I am proud to say that I've made progress towards my career and hope to make bigger steps in the future.

Bold Bravery Scholarship
The definition of bravery means to show mental or moral strength in the face of adversity. My own personal strength is being able to do what most people fear. Although, it may not seem extravagant, my job as a Phlebotomist involves needles and the exposure of blood borne pathogens. While training for this practice, I had to face my own fear of getting stuck with a needle while maintaining the mental strength to perform blood draws on others as well as letting them practice on me. Nevertheless, my responsibilities as a Phlebotomist reach far from just blood; the procedures that I perform within my scope of practice aid in the diagnosis and provide guidance to the actions of the Physician. With this in mind, it is important to show bravery and integrity towards any mistake I may make within my position as it can make a great difference in a patient's health.
