Thank you so much for checking out my Bold.org profile. I really appreciate that you're interested in learning more about me! My name is Elyse Gibson and I am from Jacksonville, FL. I am passionate about my community and I seek to be an advocate for the importance of equity in the healthcare system. Interning in our local hospital during the summer encourages my drive.
I am a driven and passionate leader who tackles any obstacle for the greater good. While my main focus for the future is to become a Pediatric Nurse, I enjoy all the work I have done towards making a social impact. Greater service is my motto. I have served two years as Vice President of the Sigma Gamma Rhoer Club, an affiliate of the Sigma Gamma Rhoer Sorority, Inc. where community service has been a cornerstone of my experience. I support my community through working with my religious house of worship and through the non-profit organization Sister 2 Sister mentoring program working with young girls and teens.

I have seen how many people are affected by the worst parts of this world, but I want to be the catalyst to build up the better parts of my community and my world. I have made it my duty to work in my community in whatever ways are needed. I live in, worship in, and attend school in a lower-income community. As I grew, I didn't understand how different my circumstances could have been. I live two blocks over from a mass shooting that rocked my community. I know I have been covered from the dangers of this world. Growing up in a single-parent household, it was my single mother who worked exceptionally hard to make sure I had what I needed so that I could prioritize my spiritual growth and my education. I don't remember a moment when she did not make herself available. I am shaped by her guidance. She taught me to plan, to work hard, and to have faith be my guide.
This encouraged me to become a leader in every way. I learned that I WILL get the job done and I won’t let my team (or myself) down. I am so grateful to have learned this from my mother. I love leading and inspiring others, and as President of the National Honors Society Chapter, President of the NSCOC Youth Council, Captain of the Riverside Lacrosse Girls Team, Section Leader in the Riverside Marching Band, and former Vice President of the Sigma Gamma Rho Rhoer Chapter I have proven my abilities.
I spent the past two summers interning at Baptist Health, one of the most reputable hospitals in my city. This experience has truly cemented for me that I am entering the right career field. My career goal is to become a Travel Pediatric Nurse. Medicine and advocating for the proper medical services for the underprivileged is my passion. I seek to not only work in the field but to make a difference in the field. I will pursue becoming a Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist (PCNS). My time spent volunteering with various community service opportunities has also had a significant impact on my career path.
College is an investment for myself, and my family. Being financially independent is my goal. As part of an ethnic minority, I know that this path to financial freedom doesn’t come without its own set of challenges. I would welcome this scholarship as a step in a better direction. Nursing shortages are occurring everywhere, but third-world countries are especially affected. This scholarship will allow me to move closer to accomplishing my goal.

It was my single mother who worked exceptionally hard to make sure I had what I needed so that I could prioritize my spiritual growth and my education.
Many obstacles are generational. I saw throughout my life where we struggled to “make ends meet”. This is why I worked so hard to ensure I will have access to making a difference in my future. I work, I attend school full-time, I volunteer consistently, I am in multiple organizations, and I support efforts at my school to encourage “school spirit”. My mother used to say you will be a well-rounded child, and I do believe we made it happen! I will use my opportunities wisely and take advantage of every supportive hand, every bit of guidance, and all those who have mentored me through the years. I spent the summer interning in one of the hospitals in my city, and it truly encouraged me to know that I was entering the correct career path. My career goal is to become a Travel Pediatric Nurse. I have chosen this direction in my life because I’ve always wanted to help others and Pediatrics has always interested me. Why not have an impact on someone’s life at the start of it? In the future, I could see myself possibly continuing this career path or becoming a physician assistant. You help kids, and there's nothing that compares to the reward of watching them heal. The biggest highlight for me is knowing you played a role in their recovery. Nurses also get an everyday challenge and continue learning throughout their careers. Nursing shortages are occurring everywhere, but third-world countries are especially affected.
This scholarship will allow me to move closer in the direction of accomplishing my ultimate goal. My family lineage originates in the Caribbean, and I dream of taking my gifts back home. We need more professionals supporting the disadvantaged and economically challenged back in the islands. I do everything in my power to help them through their troubling times. Helping them find closure and positive ways of comfort and making sure they always know they have a shoulder to lean on. Encouraging my friends to do their best, and working together to reach success is one of my main goals. Everyone deserves support along their life’s journey. Believing that change will come if I continue to do the right thing is what keeps my heart and mind pure. Even though it might not be able to change the entire world it impacts at least a few people and it matters.

I have four uncles, two of whom have served in the United States Air Force. I have found strength within these situations because the work of the military has required so many times when they have had to be away from the family. As president of the youth council at my church home, I plan and create activities to encourage and support social and spiritual development. We are huge proponents of inspiring our youth to tap into their talents. Many of the youth are from socio-economic backgrounds that have not allowed them diverse experiences. They enjoy what we all do together and it is building a community of youth who will continue the work in years to come.
Also, as a member of the Amnesty International group, we brought social issues around the world into view. Our goal is to inspire the teenagers of Riverside High School and adults in our circle and beyond to put action behind the change they would like to see. We include the student body in our discussions and debates and our goal this year is to inspire more students to become a part of the movement. We are seeking to partner with the Student Government group this year and take up some community projects.
I live by a set of standards that encourages me to be a light in people’s lives as well as a blessing to others. I strive to be like Christ in everything I do, no matter how hard it may be living in this world: I can make a difference. Being generous, having integrity and showing empathy in every situation can help others see a different perspective and that’s what I aspire to do every day.

My mom was at every function, sporting event, school program and school meeting (no matter what it took to get there). She taught me at home before and after planning her lessons and grading her papers. She made time on the weekends for us to spend time together or even just take me to the birthday parties I was invited to. I don't remember a moment she did not make herself available. I am shaped by her guidance. She taught me to plan, to work hard, and to have faith be my guide.

This is why I work so hard to ensure I have access to making a difference in my future. I will use my opportunities wisely and take advantage of every helping hand, every bit of guidance, and all those who have mentored me through the years.
I love leading and inspiring others to make things happen. In all my school activities I seek to be an inspiration and a guide for my teammates. I try not to miss an opportunity to share a good word and do a good work. I spent the summer interning in one of the hospitals in my city, and it truly encouraged me to know that I am entering the correct career path. Medicine and advocating for the proper medical services for the underprivileged is my passion. I seek to not only work in the field, but to make a difference in the field.
