Basketball has taught me many valuable life lessons such as teamwork, leadership, and hard work. I have been playing basketball since I was in the first grade. I started playing in a small, carpeted church gymnasium and now I am starting on my high school varsity team. I have been able to improve immensely due to hard work, determination, and belief in myself.
Basketball has taught me about the importance of working together. I have spent a long time working in a team atmosphere that it has taught me how to properly go about working with a group. Group work is an important life skill. In the workplace, it is important to have the ability to be flexible and work in groups. It is a valuable life skill that has been taught to me through the many years of playing my sport.
I have also learned many valuable leadership skills throughout my time in basketball. I have been a team captain in my sophomore and junior year. I anticipate returning as a team captain for my senior season as well. I have learned how to lead people properly and with patience. This is another skill that is important for my future. I have had the privilege of not only leading people my age but also the youth of my school and community. I have had the opportunity to instruct younger students on how to properly play the game. I am helping the younger generation to develop the same love for the game that I have. I have had the privilege of leading many different people, different people need to be led differently. People respond to different forms of leadership in different ways. This is a life skill that I have developed over the years that I will carry forward into the rest of my life.
The other lesson that basketball has taught me is the value of hard work. Working hard isn't easy and it takes serious grit and determination. I have learned that improvement takes time and it takes work. Improvement does not just happen overnight. It takes time and effort order to accomplish your goals.
In conclusion, basketball has been a very big part of my life for the past 10 years. I have put countless hours of work into it in order to evolve into the player that I am today. Basketball is important to me and I strive to spread the love of the game to the people around me and future generations.
Lifelong Learning Scholarship
Learning is extremely important to me. I would not be in the position I am today if it were not for a love of learning. I am someone who thoroughly enjoys learning and constantly growing my knowledge in a variety of different subjects. I recognize the importance of learning and how it plays into a much bigger picture and overall will better the world around me.
It is important to be constantly learning. The more we learn the more we are able to discover about our world. Learning is an easy way to better our world. The more prepared we are to enter into the world and the workforce, the better we are able to play an important role in our community. Everyone plays a role in the community and world around them. It is up to us to be good stewards of the world around us and take care of it properly. The more well-educated we are, the more prepared we are to take care of the world.
I plan to continue to learn throughout my life. I want to become a teacher, so I need to constantly be learning and bettering my understanding of the world. The more I know the more I will be able to teach my students and prepare them for their move into society. My job as a teacher is to constantly learn and adapt to the world around us and what happens so that I can instruct my students in a way that is appropriate for the state of our world. I plan to use my career as a way to constantly learn. I strive to be constantly learning and expanding my knowledge simply because that's what I enjoy and what I like to do. So I have committed myself to lifelong learning both in the academic sense and also just learning more about myself and other people.
In conclusion, lifelong learning is very important and benefits ourselves and our minds. It also benefits the world around us and betters the community. I love learning and am excited to see where my love for learning takes me throughout my life. Through my career as a teacher, I am able to share what I have learned with children and teach them all that I have learned through my life and my experiences. I can't wait to have that opportunity to share my knowledge with the younger children.
V.C. Willis Foundation Scholarship
I believe that the education and mentoring of the youth are very important. I had several incredible teachers growing up that have inspired me to become a teacher myself. These incredible men and women have made such a massive impact on me that I feel that it is my calling to continue that and make an impact on future generations. I believe that it is vital to educate the youth because children are our future. We need to constantly train better leaders and better overall human beings to ensure that our world will be a better place. Even if it doesn't feel like it, the small children of today are the world leaders of tomorrow. Our impact on children today could make such an incredible difference in the state of our world 20 to 30 years down the world.
So many teachers have made such an incredible impact on me throughout my childhood and even now. I am a teaching assistant during the school year in our school's kindergarten classroom. The teacher I can assist in that environment is incredible. She knows how to properly instruct the kids according to the learning styles that have proven to be best for them, while still creating a loving environment where it is okay to make mistakes. I think that creating a healthy learning environment for children is extremely important for their future. It makes kids feel more comfortable in the early stages of learning where many mistakes may be made. Mistakes happen, it's natural. It is our job as teachers to instruct them in a way that is correct and to change their viewpoint on a problem into what is best.
Educating the youth is very important because our world is going to look so much different 20 years down the road. These children that we may ignore or snub over now, will be the leaders of this almost new world that are going to exist. The world is constantly changing and evolving and we need to make sure that we are ready for these changes by training children to prepare them for what their lives will be like.
In conclusion, I think that it is extremely important to be educating children because children are our future. They are going to be the people that run our world a couple of years down the road. We need to be constantly preparing the future leaders of the world and properly training them.
