I am a focused hard-working student, part-time worker, and athlete. I live an extremely busy, yet balanced schedule to make the most out of my high school career.
I’m a Christian and have been attending World Outreach since I was one. I regularly volunteer as a teen lead weekly and for special events with my church. I’ve been a “lifer” in my faith and while I’ve had my fair share of falls, I get back up with God’s help to follow his plan for my life.
I’m a full-time college student at the University of Tennessee. I maintain an unweighted 4.0 GPA and have received straight As throughout my high school academic career.
I’m an employee at Chophouse, working 20-30 hours weekly during school and summertime. My evaluations have been top scores, and I have a strong work ethic.
I volunteered a minimum of 50 recorded hours per year in high school, and I received the Citizenship Award through all of high school for volunteering 3 times the required number of hours. I volunteered primarily with my church, but additionally with Mission 615 in Nashville, an organization focused on helping Nashville’s homeless population and introducing children in lower-income communities to faith in Christ and a better way of life.

Joe Gilroy "Plan Your Work, Work Your Plan" Scholarship
Pursuing a career in corporate finance requires a deliberate, structured plan that integrates academic achievements, practical experience, and strategic resource allocation. My ultimate goal is to contribute to an organization’s financial success through roles such as Financial Analyst, progressing to leadership positions like Finance Director or Chief Financial Officer. By leveraging my academic coursework, internships, and professional development, I am building a robust foundation to achieve this goal.
A significant milestone in my journey toward a corporate finance career is the financial analyst internship I have secured at a manufacturing company in Nashville for the summer before my senior year. This role will provide me with invaluable hands-on experience in budgeting, forecasting, and analyzing financial data. Working in a manufacturing environment will expose me to the complexities of operational finance, including cost analysis and capital budgeting, which are integral to corporate finance roles.
As a Finance major with a collateral in Accounting at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, I have developed a strong academic background, maintaining a 4.00 GPA while being a 1794 Honors Scholar and Haslam Business Fellow. My coursework has provided me with a thorough understanding of financial analysis, managerial accounting, and corporate finance principles. These subjects are essential for evaluating business decisions and financial strategies, skills critical for corporate finance roles.
During my freshman year, I gained practical experience as a bookkeeper at Rocky Top Piano, where I managed accounts payable and receivable processes and reconciled thousands of dollars in transactions using QuickBooks and Excel. This role honed my attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage financial records—skills that align with the fundamental requirements of corporate finance.
Through this internship, I aim to refine my analytical and technical skills, particularly in financial modeling and advanced use of tools like Excel and Tableau. Collaborating with experienced professionals will also help me build a network of mentors and peers in the industry, laying the groundwork for future career opportunities. This practical experience will complement my academic coursework, equipping me with the skills and confidence needed to excel in entry-level corporate finance roles.
After graduating in May 2026, I aim to start my career as a Financial Analyst, where I can apply my analytical and problem-solving skills to support strategic decision-making. Within 5-7 years, I aspire to advance to leadership roles such as FP&A Manager or Finance Director. These positions will enable me to influence an organization’s financial planning and long-term strategy. My ultimate goal is to lead a finance department, guiding a company’s growth and financial health.
To achieve these goals, I will allocate resources toward academic materials and professional certifications. Scholarships, part-time work, and careful budgeting will minimize financial barriers including the 35K in student debt. I have started paying down the debt monthly while in school but am in need of further assistance to reach my goals. With a solid academic foundation, relevant work experience, and a strategic plan for professional development, I am confident in my ability to achieve a fulfilling career in corporate finance. Through careful planning, persistence, and leveraging available resources, I will contribute meaningfully to the financial success of any organization I join.
Bold Goals Scholarship
I want a financially stable life, and I want to help others have the same. I want to go to college and have both an amazing educational and life experience. I plan to major in business administration with a concentration in finance as the first step in my plan to become a financial advisor. I want to learn about investing, life planning, and learning all the tricks to make the most out of what the dollar has to offer. I then plan to work for a firm and create a wide base of clients. I want to help people not make blunders with their money because they don't know what to do with it. I want to help younger people set themselves up to be financially independent and best prepared for their future. My goal is to learn the best I can to help myself and others finesse our finances to live our best lives possible to the point where money is not a concern.
Bold Investing Scholarship
I’m 17 and have invested thousands of dollars earned from my own job in the stock market. The biggest tip I learned was to invest in index funds instead of single stocks for long-term growth. As someone who isn’t a day trader, with long-term growth being my goal, I invest in index funds which average 6-10% growth annually - earning significantly more profits than merely putting my earnings in a savings account. I follow multiple finance accounts and check the market daily to “buy the dip” when the market goes into the red. I invest in funds with a largely technological focus like SPY and am currently researching Vanguard. I intend to major in business administration with a concentration in finance so I can become a financial advisor. I plan to continually learn more about investing, and use my knowledge to help others achieve what they want out of life but helping them make the best financial plan that they can.
Bold Study Strategies Scholarship
To achieve my academic success, I primarily implement strategies of textbook reading with really the only focus being on the concepts or facts I don't have a grasp on. I am all about efficiency and saving time in all aspects of my life. I find the parts I don't understand and research them ahead of time before consulting others. I typically go to one-on-ones with my teachers to learn new concepts and achieve familiarity then attempted mastery with them.
Additonally, I employ the use of Quizlet for memorization or a mass sort of facts in a gathered set of data that comes in a readily accessible format. I use online tools for math learning that walk through multiple methods of step-by-step solving to understand all parts of equations in a manner that I can replicate with the best method that works for me.
Finally, my favorite way to study is to watch Crashcourses or other videos with content that is engaging to maintain attention for longer periods of time. These videos improve rote recall as well as create word associations among others that help to facilitate lasting impressions of the content.
