WinnerBio
My name is Elizalynn Lotu. I am a senior at Silver Valley High in Yermo, California. I come from a military family, my mother is in the Army. Before I was 7, I lived in American Samoa due to my mother being deployed two times. I am the youngest and the only girl of six. When I turned 14 years old, I was able to volunteer after school and my brothers corner store. When I turned 15, I became a bagger at the commissary. When I turned 16, I held up two jobs, school and club volleyball, and taking care of three nephews. My whole life, I have worked, worked to help myself grow, help my family with certain bills, cook dinner, watch the kids, pay for club, etc. I have great teamwork, communication, and observation skills. I did all this, and still managed to keep a 3.6-4.0 GPA. And still being part of my school clubs and activities.

Ron Johnston Student Athlete Scholarship
WinnerI grew up in an athletic family. Everyone played everything, whether it was their sport or not. My favorite sport is volleyball. I grew up on any type of court, sand, wood, or gravel. My family inspires me. I moved to the states in 2012 from American Samoa barely speaking English. I joined a club team when I was 12 years old and I was put into the 18U team. And I officially became the youngest starting player for Saint Clair County Volleyball Club in Missouri. I communicated through volleyball. I ended up moving due to my mother being in the military which made no difference to me. All I wanted to do was play volleyball the first thing I did moving to California was to look for a volleyball open gym. Later on I found the closest volleyball club to me was an hour away from the Army base I live on. It was tough, but my family helped me balance out school, church, and volleyball. My first year here I didn't have a drivers license to go from bible study, to school, to practice, and back in time to make dinner. At four in the morning was bible study, my older brother would take me since he has work at five, My bus comes at six in the morning since school is an hour away. After school is out, I would catch a ride from another teammate to practice which was at the high school in the next town over. One of my parents would drive an hour to pick me up from practice and drive back to base. If it wasn't for the support for my family I wouldn't push so hard to be the best student athlete. Being the only girl and the youngest of eight brothers, they set the bar pretty high for me. It wasn't that difficult to break through it when my family has high expectations for me. I am proud of myself, I have accomplished a lot on and off the court, and I owe it all to my family.
Bold Make Your Mark Scholarship
I hope to leave an impact on the world by impacting my high school. Where better to start than a place where you mentally grew. I have created and been a part of many clubs. My most successful club I have created at school, Multi-Culture Club. I started this club my sophomore year. Three years of running and being president, I have around 60 club members that are active. This limited the hate and segregation that students portrayed to others. Held many school wide activities that brought students and teachers together such as pep rallies, spring and fall festival, talent shows.
Bold Equality Scholarship
I go to Silver Valley High School. We are a very diverse school. Everyone gets along well with each other since we are a very small school with less than 350 students in total. I started a club my freshmen year called "Multi-Culture Club", we have 67 members that attend meetings, activities, and field trips. What we do, is learn of each others culture and how they grew up. I started this club because I am one of three Samoans at my school. My culture was offended many times and always had stereotypes used against me. When I started this club, was the first time I was able to speak of my culture without being mocked and laughed at. I had hoped my club could do the same for other students as well and with three years running, I have just passed along my presidency to the only Indian/American student in our school who was the first one to join.
