In spite of calamities come in all shapes and sizes, i have always endured through prayer and supplication to the Lord. I really don't know any other way to overcome anything without God. COVID-19 came about and schools were shut down world-wide, this greatly affected Africa specifically Uganda. Schools in Uganda have been shutdown for 2 years and Uganda being a third world country cannot afford to let any students in for free. This greatly put the younger generation at stake. This caused a great panic throughout the nation and families. My mother then decided to home school us and create a community library that would benefit all of the kids put at a disadvantage by the lockdown. My siblings and i would work and learn at the library assisting anyone that needed text books or leisure books to keep them occupied for the time being. The library flourished to the point where it gained recognition from an American organization that donated a plethora of books to delight every kind of reader. This had gone on for at-least a year when President Museveni had addressed the country that the lockdown would go on for another year. Schools had to opt to online school as much as many do not have the resources to it carry out. In my village majority of the children were either working with their parents on their farms or sitting idly at home. My mother then decided to set up a school to aid all the children Jimmy Mugambe International Foundation (JMIF) in Gombe Kitaasa. We set up the school in 4 months. Despite all of this my family constantly depended on prayer for everything. Especially for my siblings and i to go back to school. Later on our prayers were answered when the U.S.A started opening schools and then the world but Uganda. We were then flown off to America to study due to the lack of proper education in Uganda. Education is a priority to my family and i, i must do everything in my power to succeed and to help those around me do the same. I want to make my counter parts in Uganda proud. Make a name for myself and my country. I plan on becoming a realtor and obtaining my Bachelors degree in Business Management and Finance. My other objective is to aid Women Against Teenage Pregnancy (Watp) owned by my mother, this is an NGO organization that is committed to fighting menstrual poverty and aids Ugandan women and girls with feminine napkins and sanitary equipment to help them attend school. I could donate part of the scholarship money in order to help my counterparts (more specifically the girls) in Uganda go to school. I feel like it my responsibility to give back to my community and help them reach the goals i have.
    Hobbies Matter
I was in primary school when i first picked up a hook and thread, constantly struggling i decided to give up on the first week of my learning but i found it fascinating how people could crochet with such ease and the end results were astounding. So i kept going, hoping by the end of that week i would be able to at least make a row of half double crochets. By the end of that month i was able to make a cell phone crossbody bag, it was exhilarating and made me feel as though i own all the yarn in the world. I was little then and had so many expectations for my new hobby. To my disappointment i couldn't do much but bags, it soon became tedious and i hated only knowing the basics but i didn't have much access to the internet then seeing i was in rural boarding school in Uganda and we didn't have time to properly pursue any hobbies other than reading textbooks. So i took a break for a few years and waited till i was done with P.L.E (Primary Leaving Examination). My first years of high school i didn't pursue my preferred hobby due to lack of time and was told to mainly focus on my studies and sports. COVID-19 then came around and all schools were shut down and this gave me enough time to develop new and old hobbies especially crochet, i then decided to start an unlicensed crochet business mainly selling my work to my friends and family it enabled me to make money for some basic necessities for my family during that catastrophic time . COVID went on for too long and we finally moved to America where i could properly operate.Crochet was seemingly the trend among American youth and this became an opportunity for me to sell my work. Crochet is a hobby i hold dear because it constantly relaxes me, it keeps me occupied, when i am sad there is nothing i want to do more. I feel proud about my work and they make perfect gifts to my loved ones. I hope in the future i am able to start an actual business.

The female generation of Uganda are defenseless when it comes to their sanitary health and can not afford pads and traditionally must stay home until the their period passes.
