    Williams Foundation Trailblazer Scholarship
Thinking about what I have done during my high school experience, raising awareness of the unmet needs in my community, and finding ways to address it has been a natural choice for me. The program that helped me most was an internship program with underserved populations in Chicago. During my work experience earlier this year, I worked on putting together essential hygiene kits and giving them to the less privileged who live in the Washington Park area, a place where such services are much needed. When I kept hearing how desperately the homeless needed hygiene kits (soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, etc), my group and I went to bring what we could make, and to introduce ourselves. In addition to our efforts to respond to immediate needs, we also hoped to act in ways that would offer those to whom we were the objects of charity a renewed sense of personal dignity and hope. We did not want to stop at distribution either, knowing that we needed to have a lasting impact. We partnered with Shower Up, a local shelter that provides services such as mobile showers for the homeless. By donating the leftover hygiene kits, we reached a total of 96 individuals at Shower Up across 10 weeks. Donating items can go only so far. So if you are deciding whether to engage in an active service project or choose to donate items, choose the active service project. For us, it mattered that our initiative could continue even after the event because we built a partnership with an existing organization on campus that was working towards the same goal as us – Shower Up has made a meaningful impact by providing mobile showers to the homeless. People took notice. Our city newspaper featured our project and won us awards from Multiplying Good, a national nonprofit that acknowledges exemplary public service. I received the Jefferson Award, which honors a person or group for outstanding public service. Alongside another recipient, I was asked to speak and present the project, which enlarged upon the importance of basic human needs and the power of small groups of people giving time and money to make a big change. It has truly changed me. It affirms that self-implemented projects and the importance of one's leadership are vital for social change and moving forward. As an emerging leader, I will continue to strive to eliminate barriers and create avenues of advancement for underserved people. The scholarship will also allow me to continue to work towards serving and innovating, to make hailstorms of a future trail.

    Cat Zingano Overcoming Loss Scholarship
Losing my brother, Christopher Cooper, at such a pivotal moment in my life fundamentally reshaped my perspective on what truly matters and ignited a relentless drive within me to achieve my utmost potential. Christopher and I shared a bond that transcended words – from playful adventures to earnest heart-to-heart conversations, he was not only my sibling but also my confidant and companion. However, our paths diverged when I was around eight years old, and the absence of his presence became a palpable void in my life. Despite the lack of direct contact, memories of our shared experiences lingered, reminding me of the irreplaceable connection we once shared. Then, as I embarked on the journey of high school, a profound realization struck me like a bolt of lightning – Christopher was no longer among the living. The news of his passing shattered me, unraveling the fragile threads of my innocence and naivety. In that moment of profound loss, I confronted the ephemeral nature of life and the fragility of human relationships. Christopher's absence served as a poignant reminder of the fleeting nature of time and the importance of cherishing every moment with loved ones. Yet, amidst the grief and turmoil, his departure ignited a fiery determination within me – a determination to honor his memory by living a life of purpose and significance. I resolved to channel my sorrow into something meaningful, to transform tragedy into triumph. Christopher's passing catalyzed a metamorphosis within me, propelling me towards academic excellence and active engagement in extracurricular activities. His absence became the driving force behind my relentless pursuit of success, serving as a constant reminder of the preciousness of life and the imperative to seize every opportunity with unwavering determination. Through my academic achievements and involvement in various programs, I strive to honor Christopher's memory and uphold the values he embodied – resilience, perseverance, and compassion. His legacy fuels my ambition, propelling me forward even in the face of adversity. In essence, the loss of my beloved brother crystallized my priorities, guiding me towards a path defined by purpose and meaning. I fight not only for personal success but also to honor Christopher's memory and the profound impact he had on my life. His absence serves as a poignant reminder to cherish every moment, to pursue my aspirations with unwavering determination, and to never take life for granted.
    Michael Valdivia Scholarship
Michael Valdivia's story resonates with me on a profound level. His infectious laughter, generous heart, and deep compassion are qualities I strive to embrace every day. As a young man who has battled anxiety and depression, I understand the importance of love and support in overcoming life's hurdles. It is with a sense of kinship and determination that I apply for the Michael Valdivia Scholarship, a beacon of encouragement for those like me who have struggled but continue to pursue their dreams. Growing up, my family faced numerous financial hardships, leading to a two-year period on the verge of homelessness. This struggle took a toll on my mental health, manifesting as anxiety and depression. I felt trapped and suffocated by circumstances beyond my control. Hope seemed distant, and my dreams of pursuing higher education seemed unattainable. However, my grandmother's kindness and the unwavering support of friends helped me navigate this dark period. They were my lifelines, their compassion reflecting the same generous heart that Michael Valdivia exemplified. Slowly but surely, I began to rebuild my life, focusing on my education and seeking professional help to manage my mental health. Despite the struggles, I managed to involve myself in community service projects, including collaborating with local schools to create and distribute hygiene kits for the homeless. This connection with my community served as a reminder that kindness, empathy, and love could create profound impacts. Much like Michael's legacy of giving, I found solace in helping others, turning my pain into a passion for making a difference. My ambition now is to major in agriculture and biology, with dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon. I believe that a career in medicine will allow me to extend my compassion and empathy to those in need, just as others extended theirs to me. Eventually, I aim to build a non-profit organization focusing on financial literacy, particularly aimed at supporting young black men in my community. The Michael Valdivia Scholarship is not just a financial aid; it is a symbol of the very compassion, love, and support that helped me overcome my challenges. It represents a continuation of Michael's legacy, a legacy I hope to carry forward as I pursue my education and career goals. My mental health journey, filled with ups and downs, has shaped me into a resilient and compassionate individual. It has taught me the power of empathy, the importance of community, and the unbreakable strength of the human spirit. Michael Valdivia's story is a beautiful testament to these values, and I am honored to apply for a scholarship that celebrates his remarkable legacy. His love that reached to the core is a love I aspire to share with the world, as I move forward in my pursuit of education, healing, and hope.
Bulchand and Laxmi Motwani Memorial Scholarship
Courage and perseverance, two traits that embody the legacy of Bulchand and Laxmi Motwani, are mirrored in my own life story. As a young man who has overcome significant challenges and has a burning desire to contribute to the field of science, I find their story truly inspiring. It is my honor to apply for the Bulchand and Laxmi Motwani Memorial Scholarship, an award that celebrates their legacy of unwavering commitment to education, service, and entrepreneurship. A few years ago, my life was upended by a two-year stint on the brink of homelessness. Navigating this tumultuous period was challenging. I experienced firsthand the debilitating effects of instability, and its impact on my mental health was profound. However, it was during these seemingly insurmountable circumstances that I discovered an untapped reservoir of resilience within me. Through sheer determination and the unwavering support of my grandmother, who took us in when we had nowhere else to go, I managed to overcome this adversity. This ordeal, while strenuous, only reaffirmed my desire to pursue a career in the sciences. I was deeply moved by my mother's struggle with breast cancer, and the battle she waged with the disease became a significant motivator for my ambitions. Witnessing her medical journey firsthand ignited in me a passion for the study of biology, a field where I believe I can contribute to bettering human lives and health. The Motwanis' dedication to service resonates strongly with my own commitment to making a positive impact. During high school, I spearheaded a service project where we collaborated with nine other schools in our city to assemble and distribute hygiene kits for the homeless. We managed to create and distribute 300 kits, half of which we handed out personally and the remaining we donated to a local homeless organization called Shower Up. This experience not only revealed to me the power of collaboration and compassion but also underlined the importance of service to the community. Receiving the Bulchand and Laxmi Motwani Memorial Scholarship would not only ease my financial burden but would also serve as a recognition of my resilience and dedication to my academic and career goals. It would symbolize an acknowledgment of the challenges I have overcome and inspire me further in my pursuit of a career in the sciences. I am determined to honor the Motwanis' legacy of education, service, and entrepreneurship, as I carve my own path of resilience, ambition, and compassion. Their enduring spirit is a testament to the triumph over adversity, a narrative that parallels my own, and one that I aspire to continue as I progress in my academic journey.
Robert F. Lawson Fund for Careers that Care
In honor of Robert F. Lawson, a veteran dedicated to serving others and making the world a better place, I am applying for this scholarship. His mission resonates deeply with my own aspirations of dedicating my career to the betterment of humanity. As a low-income student with a desire to pursue a career in healthcare, specifically neurosurgery, and with future plans in agriculture, education, and nonprofit work, I find inspiration in Lawson's unwavering commitment to help those in need. I was born into adversity, an experience that taught me resilience and perseverance from a young age. From teetering on the brink of homelessness to watching my mother's battle with breast cancer, my experiences have shaped my worldview and ignited a deep desire within me to devote my life to the service of others. My journey to becoming a neurosurgeon is fueled by the prospect of giving individuals a second chance at life. The brain, with its intricate complexity and capability, has always fascinated me. As a neurosurgeon, I would have the privilege of intervening in critical moments of people's lives, potentially altering their futures for the better. While the path to neurosurgery is long and demanding, I believe the opportunity to create a meaningful difference in people's lives is worth every sacrifice. However, my vision of service extends beyond the confines of a hospital. After retiring from medicine, I aim to delve into agriculture and biology, fulfilling a dream of living harmoniously with nature. My objective is to use my knowledge to cultivate organic produce, promote sustainable farming practices, and contribute to environmental conservation. By going all natural, I can champion healthier lifestyles while respecting the planet that sustains us. But my mission does not stop there. In parallel to my medical and agricultural pursuits, I plan to establish a nonprofit focused on teaching financial literacy to young Black men. My experiences have made me acutely aware of the systemic financial challenges that plague marginalized communities. I believe that financial literacy is a vital tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and creating opportunities for economic growth. By imparting financial knowledge and skills, I aim to empower these young men, enabling them to make informed decisions that will positively impact their lives and communities. Robert F. Lawson's life serves as a powerful reminder that it is not just our career, but our commitment to serving others that truly changes the world. His dedication to helping others continues to inspire me and fortify my resolve to make a meaningful contribution to society. Receiving the Robert F. Lawson Scholarship would significantly ease my financial burden and propel me forward in my journey. It would enable me to focus on my education, help me take the first steps toward my career in healthcare, and eventually set me on the path to making lasting contributions in agriculture and financial education. I am determined to make the most of this opportunity, and in doing so, honor the legacy of Robert F. Lawson and continue his mission of making the world a better place.
    Elevate Mental Health Awareness Scholarship
In the poignant words of Carl Jung, "I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become." Throughout my life, I've confronted the complex facets of mental health, both in my own experiences and through the experiences of those close to me. The obstacles I've faced have not defeated me; rather, they've shaped my worldview, relationships, and career aspirations, making me the person I am today. The Elevate Mental Health Awareness Scholarship honors Sheri Rosser's memory, a woman who found strength in authenticity, belief, and compassion, values that echo my personal journey. I am no stranger to mental health challenges. For two tumultuous years, I teetered on the brink of homelessness, a traumatic experience that took a significant toll on my mental health. The stress, uncertainty, and hardship bred feelings of depression and anxiety, casting a dark shadow over my existence. During these challenging times, I found solace in the compassion and strength of my grandmother, who stepped in to provide us with a home, and in the resilience of my mother, a survivor of breast cancer. They became my beacon of hope amid the chaos, their struggles and triumphs etching a lasting impact on my mental fortitude. Living with individuals who grappled with their mental health made me acutely aware of the lack of adequate support, both societal and systemic, for those dealing with mental health issues. I saw firsthand how the current system failed to provide effective solutions, instead often contributing to the problem through addictive medications and inconsistent therapies. This broken system fueled my passion to drive change and inspired me to take action. As a high school student, I collaborated with various schools in my city on a community service project to assist the homeless, many of whom wrestled with untreated mental health issues. We assembled and distributed hygiene kits, a small but impactful gesture that not only met a basic need but also fostered a sense of dignity and self-worth. This project was a testament to the power of empathy and compassion, attributes that I believe are crucial in addressing mental health challenges. My experiences with mental health have influenced my belief in the need for comprehensive, empathetic, and effective mental health care. They have also shaped my relationships, teaching me the value of patience, understanding, and unconditional support when dealing with those struggling with mental health. Most importantly, these experiences have guided my career aspirations. I am determined to contribute to the field of mental health, whether through research, counseling, or advocacy, to ensure that those battling mental health issues receive the help they need and deserve. In the words of Sheri Rosser, "When we bring the darkness to light, it will slowly fade." By applying for the Elevate Mental Health Awareness Scholarship, I hope to bring light to the darkness that surrounds mental health, challenge the stigma, and promote understanding and compassion. I am committed to helping create innovative solutions that will truly elevate mental health care, and in doing so, honor the memory of Sheri Rosser. My journey may have been marked by challenges, but it is the strength, resilience, and hope born out of these challenges that guide my path forward.
    Michael Rudometkin Memorial Scholarship
While I didn't have the privilege of knowing Michael Rudometkin personally, the legacy of his life speaks volumes about his character and his values. Michael believed that life was more than just academic achievements – it was about nurturing relationships, doing what truly made one happy and fulfilled, and most importantly, helping others. This scholarship, created to honor his memory, resonates with my personal journey and commitment to community service and passion-driven learning. One of the most defining moments of my life where I truly embodied selflessness and altruism was during a collaborative service project with nine other schools in my city. We aimed to address one of the most fundamental yet often overlooked needs of our less fortunate community members – hygiene. As someone who had once faced the threat of homelessness, this project was more than just community service; it was a deeply personal endeavor, a way to give back to the community that had once extended its support to me. Together, we assembled 300 hygiene kits, each packed with basic necessities such as toothpaste, soap, and sanitary products. It was a labor-intensive task, but with every kit we assembled, I was reminded of the potential impact each one could make. The excitement within our team was palpable, not just because of the work at hand, but because of the shared understanding that we were making a tangible difference in our community. The day we distributed these kits was one I will always remember. We handed out 150 kits directly to the homeless in our city. Seeing their faces light up with gratitude was a profoundly moving experience. It was a stark reminder that acts of kindness, no matter how small they may seem, can make a significant difference in someone’s life. The remaining kits were donated to a local organization, Shower Up, dedicated to providing hygiene services to the homeless. Throughout this experience, I learned that selflessness and altruism are not just about grand gestures but are often found in the simplest acts of kindness. Helping others isn't just a one-off act, but a way of life, a principle that seems to have guided Michael Rudometkin throughout his life. In the spirit of Michael's legacy, I strive to continue serving my community while pursuing my academic and personal passions. I am reminded that our individual actions can collectively make the world a better place, one act of kindness at a time. If honored with the Michael Rudometkin Scholarship, I would further commit myself to serve my community and inspire others to do the same, upholding the values that Michael embodied. After all, in giving, we receive, and in helping others, we help ourselves. This, I believe, is the essence of a life well-lived.
Sean Carroll's Mindscape Big Picture Scholarship
The beauty of the universe lies in its vastness, the endless tapestry of galaxies, stars, and phenomena that stretch out far beyond what our eyes can see. But it also lies in its mysteries, the unexplored frontiers of knowledge that beg our curious minds to question, to probe, and to understand. As we embark on this infinite cosmic quest, we discover not only the secrets of the universe but also uncover insights about ourselves and the world we inhabit. This is why I am applying for the Mindscape Big Picture Scholarship: to continue this journey of exploration and understanding, fueled by a passion for physics and philosophy, and to contribute to the quest that Sean Carroll champions — the quest to understand the nature of our existence. In this exploration of the universe, we are indeed exploring ourselves. Our understanding of the cosmos informs our existence, our origins, and the destiny of our species. Every question we ask about the universe is, in essence, a question about us, about our place in this magnificent and bewildering expanse. The pursuit of understanding the universe, thus, is a pursuit that is deeply personal and inherently human. I have always been captivated by the intricate dance between physics and philosophy, two disciplines that, in my view, come together to form a comprehensive framework to understand our universe. Physics gives us the mathematical tools and empirical data to comprehend the physical world, while philosophy wrestles with the broader implications and deeper meanings of these scientific findings. One concept that particularly intrigues me is the nature of time. Einstein's theory of relativity has shown us that time is not a constant, but a variable intertwined with space, matter, and energy, leading to fascinating phenomena such as time dilation. On the philosophical side, questions about the nature of consciousness, free will, and how they interact with our understanding of the universe and time itself pique my interest. These deep inquiries push the boundaries of human thought, illuminating our understanding of the universe while also challenging our perception of reality. The importance of understanding our universe extends far beyond the realm of academia. It is the foundation upon which our society advances. The discoveries we make about our universe inform our technologies, shape our future, and even have the potential to guide us in addressing some of the most pressing issues of our time, such as climate change, disease control, and energy sustainability. Our quest for understanding could lead us to discover life beyond our planet or pave the way for human colonization of other worlds. Despite our significant strides in understanding the universe, mysteries remain. Dark matter, dark energy, and the true nature of quantum mechanics stand as tantalizing enigmas waiting to be unraveled. This underscores the need for continuous exploration and learning. The quest for knowledge is not a solitary journey but a collective one, necessitating the collaboration and contribution of minds from diverse backgrounds and experiences. In conclusion, pursuing a better understanding of our universe is more than an intellectual endeavor. It is an exploration of our place in the cosmos, a testament to our human curiosity, and a reflection of our collective aspiration to know more, to understand more. If granted the Mindscape Big Picture Scholarship, I will honor these values, using my passion for physics and philosophy to delve deeper into the mysteries of the universe. This journey, I believe, is not just about answering the questions we have but also about seeking the questions we have yet to ask. The beauty of our cosmic quest lies in its infinity—there is always more to learn, more to discover, and more to understand.
    Lauren Czebatul Scholarship
The world is not always kind, but it is in its harshest trials that we often find our deepest strengths. I have known adversity, lived close to homelessness, watched a loved one battle breast cancer, and struggled to meet basic needs. However, I also found hope and resilience in the midst of these trials, aided by the steady hand of my grandmother, who offered us shelter and stability in our darkest hour. I am applying for the Lauren Czebatul Scholarship not only because it would alleviate some of my family's financial burden, but also to honor the spirit of Lauren – a spirit of resilience, intelligence, and service to others – which resonates deeply with my journey. Volunteering has played a fundamental role in shaping my perspective on life. It has taught me the power of empathy and the immense capacity of the human spirit to rise above hardship. Just as I have received help, I've found a profound sense of purpose and fulfillment in extending my hand to others. My involvement in various community service activities has opened my eyes to the numerous challenges that people face, making me realize the importance of engineering solutions not just for theoretical or academic satisfaction, but to address real-world problems and change lives. When I reflect on Lauren's dedication as an engineer and a model student, I'm inspired by her commitment to leveraging her intelligence for the benefit of others. This resonates with my vision of combining my academic interests with a commitment to serving my community. I am particularly interested in biomedical engineering, inspired by my mother's battle with breast cancer. I want to use my education to create better and more affordable medical solutions for people who, like my mother, have had to fight not only a disease, but also a system that often leaves those most in need burdened with excessive medical bills. Financial aid is critical for me to continue my journey. The burdens of my past have limited my financial capabilities and placed additional stress on my educational pursuit. The Lauren Czebatul Scholarship would be more than just financial support. It would be an affirmation that despite the trials and tribulations of my past, I have the ability to shape my future and the futures of others through engineering and service. To honor Lauren Czebatul’s memory is to live out the values she embodied. I intend to do so by proving that adversity does not define us, but rather, how we respond to adversity does. Through resilience, hard work, and a commitment to help others, I aim to make an impact just as Lauren did. With the support of this scholarship, I can focus on the pursuit of knowledge and community service, working towards the day when I can lend a helping hand to others, just as others, including my steadfast grandmother and the generous spirit of Lauren, have extended theirs to me.

During my high school years, I encountered personal struggles that threatened to derail my educational journey. As I faced financial instability within my family, my dreams of pursuing higher education seemed like a distant mirage. However, I found solace in community service and volunteering. I firmly believe that change starts at the grassroots level, and giving back has ignited a passion for creating a positive impact within me. Throughout high school, I had the privilege of leading community service projects that allowed me to address critical needs in my community. One notable project was "Books Beyond Borders," where I mobilized a team of dedicated volunteers to collect and distribute culturally diverse books to underprivileged schools. Witnessing the impact of this initiative on young minds reaffirmed my belief in the transformative power of education. I became even more determined to unlock opportunities for those facing educational inequities, ensuring that every student can unlock the door to a brighter future. To encourage environmental stewardship within my community, I founded an environmental club that spearheads various conservation initiatives. From organizing tree-planting drives to conducting community cleanups, we actively engage with community members to embrace their role in preserving our environment. Empowering others to embrace environmental responsibility is crucial in building a more sustainable and equitable world for generations to come. Leadership, for me, is not limited to grand gestures but is seen in daily actions and interactions. I believe in leading by example and fostering a spirit of collaboration among my peers. By listening to the needs of others, collaborating on solutions, and empowering individuals to take ownership of their roles in the community, I aim to create a sense of shared responsibility and unity. As I take the next step in my educational journey and have been accepted into a four-year degree program, I face financial constraints that could potentially limit my ability to pursue my dreams. Nevertheless, my passion for empowering communities remains unwavering. With this scholarship, I hope to alleviate the burden of college expenses and continue dedicating my time and energy to community-focused initiatives. In conclusion, my leadership journey is a dedication to empowering communities through passion, compassion, and collaboration. I strive to uplift the underprivileged and inspire positive change as I pursue higher education. I am committed to building bridges, breaking barriers, and illuminating the way for a brighter, inclusive future. With this scholarship, I can take a step closer to my dreams of making a lasting impact, fostering change, and ensuring that all young changemakers have access to the opportunities they deserve. By embracing my role as a passionate leader, I aim to illuminate paths for others, paving the way toward a better and more equitable world for all.

In my quest to make a meaningful impact on the lives of marginalized individuals, I spearheaded a service project that involved the creation and distribution of hygiene kits. Motivated by a genuine desire to uplift and support those facing homelessness, my team and I poured our hearts into assembling 200 hygiene kits. Through meticulous planning, coordination, and countless hours of dedication, we meticulously sourced and compiled essential items to address the immediate needs of those experiencing homelessness. Each kit represented not only a tangible gesture of care but also a beacon of hope amidst challenging circumstances. The first phase of our project culminated in the successful completion of 200 hygiene kits. However, our mission was far from over. We eagerly embarked on the next phase, hand-delivering these kits to those in need. With unwavering determination, we braved unfavorable weather conditions and ventured into the heart of our community. During this process, we faced a challenge inherent to our chosen location. The neighborhood we selected, although chosen for its proximity to an Earth Day event and safety considerations, did not have a significant homeless population. Nonetheless, undeterred by this unexpected hurdle, we decided to broaden our approach. We opened our arms and hearts to anyone, homeless or not, who needed and appreciated the kits. This compassionate shift aligned our project with the spirit of Earth Day, uplifting not only individuals experiencing homelessness but also spreading kindness and support to all who crossed our path. As we distributed the hygiene kits, the impact was palpable. We encountered individuals who had been marginalized and forgotten by society, their faces lighting up with gratitude and relief as they received the kits. Each interaction reinforced our commitment to this project and reaffirmed the importance of treating everyone with dignity and respect, regardless of their circumstances. Despite our best efforts, we had surplus kits at the end of the distribution. With an unwavering resolve to leave no one behind, we made the decision to donate the remaining kits to Shower Up, a local homeless shelter. This partnership ensured that the kits would continue to serve those in need, extending the reach of our project beyond our initial scope. Reflecting on this journey, I am humbled by the transformative power of a simple act of kindness. Through the creation and distribution of hygiene kits, we not only addressed immediate physical needs but also provided a glimmer of hope and a reminder that people care. This service project has forever changed my perspective, igniting a passion for making lasting changes in my community. The experience of leading this project has equipped me with invaluable skills, including project management, resourcefulness, and empathy. It has reinforced the belief that even in the face of challenges, perseverance and determination can pave the way for meaningful impact. Looking ahead, this service project will continue to resonate in my personal and professional life. It has shaped my commitment to social justice and my understanding of the importance of compassion and inclusion. The lessons learned, the connections made, and the lives touched during this project will forever inspire me to forge my own path of compassion, leaving a trail of positive change wherever I go. In conclusion, through the creation and distribution of hygiene kits, my team and I illuminated paths of compassion, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of marginalized individuals. This transformative experience has deepened my understanding of social issues, sharpened my leadership skills, and instilled in me a lifelong commitment to advocate for a more compassionate and inclusive world.

Generational wealth is the only thing I want to achieve before I die. I learned the value of financial literacy and how to create money from watching my parents struggle financially and coming from a family where it doesn't exist. I had been greatly impacted by my occasional struggles and comparisons to other kids who got everything they desired at such a young age. I've been able to better understand the value of financial stability by thinking back on how far my family has come financially over the years. It has also helped me understand why, at such a young age, I should be studying how to build money for future generations. While I don't want mine workers of the future to struggle like I did, I also don't want them to be entitled, slacker kids with money. If I work hard and persevere in my efforts to acquire and apply the knowledge I already possess, I think I will be able to reach generational prosperity. With this knowledge, I can use it to diversify my portfolio and invest over time while putting all of my attention on assets. In the process, I can create a Roth IRA for myself and create a life insurance policy. Additionally, applying for as many scholarships and grants as I can will help me avoid student loan burden. While I do know plans don’t always go as expected, I do know this is better then choosing to do nothing at all. I most importantly will need to keep up in school and work as hard as I can, while also applying for scholarships. Being able to be successful and sit down one day to admire all the hard work I will do is what I strive for. I don’t just want generational wealth for me I want it for people like me. Becoming successful is not just important for me it is important to people who come from where I do. My community is my roots, and what is a tree without roots. Helping young black men learn finical literacy from someone who is actually successful and wants to help them would impact this generation by far. Being able to break cycles, and tear down the status quo of young black man would impact this society more than anything. That is what I want to do. It is just not about creating success for me. It is a bigger picture and I will make it up happen
    Growing with Gabby Scholarship
My personal growth over the last year stemmed from social images and the status quo that represent the majority of my ethnicity men. As an African-American young man in America, it is challenging with all of the social images and concepts that are attached to us. I wanted to defy them, the status quo. I took an Africana-studies curriculum last year, and it opened my eyes to the social image of black man, and looking at things in the scope of intersectionality, allowing me to blossom as a person. I am no longer befall to judge mental behavior, fragile masculinity, or an outrageous ego as a man. I can now have a balance of femininity and masculinity, allowing for grooming opportunities and male self-care. Male self-care is something overlooked, or seen as womanly and even homosexual. Even with this social image I still strive for all young men and men to reach this point in their life because it has made peace in my life. My self-care includes: discipline, meditating, facials, working out, reading, spa dates, eating healthy, etc. An absolute 360 of my day-to-day life, it has brought me so much joy that I couldn't have asked for more. I recently got into investing, opened a Roth IRA, and I am learning financial literacy because the institution which was developed to teach, teaches nothing but modern labor mentalities. My personal growth is based on the environment from which I stimmed and continue to consume. With all of the growth, I still have aspects of my life that aren't quite intertwined with my focus but should be. Growth is important and growth occurs when one is uncomfortable, not comfortable. As a 16-year-old there are some aspects of growth that just not will occur naturally, but come with age. These things are present but not focused on me, such as mental health, important decisions, spirituality, my future, etc. Now these things are important to me and I have thought about them on numerous occasions but it is hard for them to grasp my attention or re-occur as an everyday thought. My mental health is focused on but I do admit that I need a therapist. Mental health is something so overlooked in the Black community it is a shame, and if I want to continue to defeat the status quo then I have to focus on and manage growth towards it. As well as mental health, my making important decisions will lead to effects my future. Every time I make an important decision, I have to be cautious of how it will affect my future and think two steps ahead. This causes me to panic and drifts from making these decisions and when you don't it causes a major stop in all aspects of growth. It is like a boat letting the tides and wind take it wherever it goes and floats adrift aimlessly. As I have learned living life like that can be dangerous. My spirituality is a topic that I constantly step over. Being religious has always been a thing in my family and I have been on a spiritual journey for quite some time but the growth there recently hasn't been the greatest. I struggle to grow with my spirituality due to the controversy that the religion I practice faces. I am currently looking toward becoming a Muslim but I would have to be strict with myself and my practices during that time. While I strengthen these things it all helps to see growth in my future. I love my journey and will continue to grow.
