Disney Super Fan Scholarship
As an 18-year-old girl, I still love Disney films. I fangirl over new Disney movies that come out every year. Each movie is a must-watch in my eyes. I will always prefer animated movies and shows rather than realistic entertainment because I've grown up on Disney. I've read many stories about Walt Disney as a child and noticed how he came from nothing to something. No matter how much people doubted him, or how poor he was, he never gave up and became one of the world's most famous figures. Walt Disney is a huge inspiration to others nationwide. Walt Disney believed in never giving up on his dreams. His never give up attitude made him the amazing man he is. His belief in himself made him such an impact in the world. Not only did Disney never give up, he also inspired other people to never give up. He was behind a major advancement in animation. He also had many connections with the government that allowed him to help them in times of desperation. Through his career in animation, planning and contributing to theme parks and a university, and helping the military, Walt Disney has been a major positive impact on the modern world. His shorts taught kids important life lessons like listening to your parents, being nice to people and always having fun (List of Disney). Disney’s shorts were also a big factor in kids learning to count and memorize the alphabet. In fact, to this day, many kids are inspired by Disney’s colorful characters that teach them to express themselves and follow their dreams. As well as inspiring kids Disney also inspired adults. He inspired them to take chances and opportunities. To everyone who knew Disney’s back story Disney was like the hero to them. Disney went bankrupt after his first attempt at working in animation (Walt Disney." Wikipedia). But he didn’t give up. He saved up his money and moved to Hollywood for a better life. Since Disney was so in touch with his childish self he gave speeches that tried to bring out the child in everyone. In the words of Walt Disney himself "You're dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up, anyway". This is proof that Disney was a huge inspiration for many adults. including myself. Each movie, book, short, or show produced by Disney always has a lesson to it.
Dashanna K. McNeil Memorial Scholarship
I am currently a Highschool graduate as of June 1st, 2023. My ultimate goal is to become a labor and delivery nurse in the future. Nowadays I see the healthcare system and first responders working so hard to help the public. Employment overall has also drastically dropped ever since covid 19 happened. I feel as though we need more first responders in the world. So as the youngest of 6 siblings, I am the only one pursuing a nursing career and planning to attend college. I would love to make my mother proud and build the stable life I had always dreamed of. The reason I've chosen to study the medical field was always because of my love for animals. Originally I always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian when I was a child but I never seriously thought about it. When I heard the word veterinarian, all I heard was animals and thought I had my life all planned out. As I got into high school I frequently get asked the question, "What do you want to be when you grow up?". I always replied, "I think I want to be a veterinarian". The keyword was "I think". I never really thought about the pros and cons of it. After being offered a class at a career center titled "Pre-nursing/medicine" it truly forced me to think about choosing a career path. After studying human anatomy, and medical terminology, learning all body systems and how they work, and passing each of my tests with no complications, I decided I wanted to become a nurse. I was not sure which kind though. That was until my older sister gave birth and I had the opportunity to be a part of each step. I used to go to appointments with her and get to see her midwives in action. Finally, the day she went into labor approached and I had the honor of seeing my niece be born. most would say birth is gory and gruesome. Although it is a lot to see, I found it very interesting and beautiful. After seeing labor and delivery nurses and how much they love their job, that's when I decided to do more research and finally have an idea of what type of nurse I wanted to become. Going into college and medical school my decision may change but as of right now, Labor and delivery nursing is my dream job.
Henry Respert Alzheimer's and Dementia Awareness Scholarship
Alzheimer's disease or dementia-related illnesses can be devastating for you or a loved one to possess. From the individual forgetting who you are to keeping an eye on the individual at all times, there are many things to worry about. It’s important to recognize that each case of Alzheimer’s disease is unique, just like the individuals who are living with it. That said, there is some general information that may give you a sense of what to expect. When an individual enters the final stage of Alzheimer’s disease, they can experience both physical and mental decline. The individual may lose the ability to speak, comprehend the speech of others, and respond to their environment. There can also be a decline in physical abilities, such as walking, eating, swallowing, and making eye contact, and an ability to perform activities of daily living, including dressing and bathing. In addition, individuals in this stage may become incontinent. Many individuals in this stage cannot be left alone and require round-the-clock care.
Dignity and quality of life are essential for a person in the end stages of Alzheimer’s disease. You may wish to speak to your mother’s physician about current treatment options and care. Additionally, since your mother is in the last stages of this illness you and your family may want to consider whether hospice services are appropriate for her.
The main goals of hospice are to keep an individual as comfortable as possible to preserve a person’s dignity during the dying process. A doctor must certify that a person has a medical reason to be eligible for hospice services. When a person is receiving hospice care, curative treatments are stopped and no extraordinary measures are taken to prolong life (e.g., artificial respiration or feeding). Individuals in hospice have access to a hospice nurse, social worker, clergy person and volunteers to help support them through the process.
If your mother put advance directives in place that indicate her end-of-life wishes, I would suggest consulting those documents for guidance. If she did not put her wishes in writing, it would be important for your family to come together to revisit conversations that may have taken place and to discuss what she might have elected for herself, if she was able to do so. However, if she designated a specific medical power of attorney or health care proxy, the decision would, ultimately, be up to that individual.
My Brother's Keeper Scholarship
My name is Egypt Gee, and I just graduated from high school June 1st, 2023! I will be attending Wayne State University in the fall and majoring in nursing. College is a very scary process for me. always overthink and wonder how am I possibly going to pay for all these expenses to achieve my goals. This scholarship could help contribute to paying for my remaining college expenses so I can pursue my dream of becoming a nurse. As the youngest of 6 siblings, I am the only one pursuing a nursing career and planning to attend college. I would love to make my mother proud and build the stable life I had always dreamed of. The reason I've chosen to study the medical field was always because of my love for animals. Going into college and medical school my decision may change but as of right now, Labor and delivery nursing is my dream job. I believe I owe about $9,000 including housing which is $3,000 more. After applying to multiple scholarships I've never won one yet and it would be awesome to win a scholarship like this one!

After being offered a class at a career center titled "Pre-nursing/medicine" it truly forced me to think about choosing a career path. I was lost on what to do at this point but it wasn't too late to explore and choose a career because it can always change! I want to impact the world by providing care to mothers and welcoming new little humans into the world. Dr. William and Jo Sherwood Family Scholarship
In the future, Dr. William and Jo Sherwood's scholarship will help me a lot because I want to attend Wayne State University, one of the best nursing schools in Michigan, in hopes to further my education in the medical field and become a labor and delivery nurse in the future. As an on-campus nursing student, attending college will be pricey but I believe it is possible with scholarships and determination to achieve my goals.
