Bio

I am a professional actor currently residing in Japan. I decided to return to school with the dream of helping to make the world a brighter place for my newborn son while doing something I love—that being geology. Thanks for checking out my page!

Beginning at the age of around 5 or 6 I recognized that the sciences are what interest me, particularly anything related to nature and its qualities and features. Unfortunately, I became sidetracked by temporary enjoyment and expedience, and fell into doing what I do now, which is acting. Though I enjoy acting, and have participated in many major productions in both leading and supporting roles, I feel that my work is not truly improving the lives of anyone, including my own or those of my family members. I am pursuing a career in geology to help secure a brighter future for my 9 month old son, and the current and future children of the world, both in terms of prosperity, and global stability. Geologists are needed for nearly every industry, if not every industry we rely on, and unfortunately interest from prospective students has dwindled in recent years—to the point that many Universities are shutting down, or rebranding their geology departments. I plan on becoming one of these geologists, studying the features of the natural world to assist in securing access to vital natural resources, such as potash and phosphate which are used in the fertilizers that we rely on to feed the world, and are not projected to meet demand in the near future. Additionally, given the circumstances we currently find ourselves in, with global climate change, and energy instability, I feel I could help to alleviate some strain by going into geology. As a geologist I would have the potential to study alternative energy sources, which may solve or assist in solving one or both of the previously mentioned problems. Geologists, being responsible for studying the Earth itself often search out sources of rare earth minerals, metals, etc. and the discovery of an abundant source of clean energy via this process could be paradigm shifting. To be involved in this sort of discovery would be a path to the more stable world I wish for for the current and future children who face unprecedented threat. Additionally given my acting ability and experience, I believe I have the potential to eventually delve into scientific broadcasting. Through media, I would have the ability to spread my love for the sciences, and more particularly earth sciences with the world and thus encourage the future generations to explore geology. We have many spreading the word of astrophysics such as Neil Degrasse Tyson and Carl Sagan, and of chemistry and more general physics such as Bill Nye, but there has not yet been an equivalent for geology. This is my long-term dream. As one of the few who enjoy STEM, and the geosciences, I believe it is my obligation to pursue my major and future career in geology wholeheartedly. If others had not felt the same way and taken action, we would not have made it as far as we have as a species.
