People are dying and I am dying to help them. From the time I was a twelve year old girl, I knew I wanted to be a registered nurse. I loved people and loved making them smile, bringing them comfort and taking care of them. There was no length I would not go to make sure someone was taken care of properly. As a seventeen year old, I attended college for the first time in my nursing program and was terrified but intrigued. When clinical started, I knew I was meant to be a registered nurse. The smiles on the patients faces when a joke was told or the look of absolute relief when they finally felt understood about an issue, was addicting. To help people feel seen or heard in a time of anxiety and helplessness? It is a feeling that could never be replaced. I am now twenty-three years old and have been a registered nurse with my associates degree for three years. I am working on the cardio-thoracic-surgical intensive care unit with previous employment on a medical telemetry/epilepsy monitoring unit. I strive to make my patients feel seen and heard, to notify physicians of status changes and to prove to my patients that I am there for them, more so than they’re to do a job. I want to pursue nursing further so I can show more people that someone cares about them, that their nurse truly cares about that. That their nurse will stop at nothing to help them whether it be medical, ethical or a mental ailment. I want to further pursue my nursing career because people are dying and there are people like me who are dying to help them. I want to pursue nursing to help my community better their health and to understand their health. I want to pursue nursing because I truly want to help. Thank you.
