My name is Devin Casadecalvo, and I was born in North Minneapolis in 2001. I've spent my entire childhood competing in sports ranging from basketball to hockey, soccer, football, track, and more. Sports allowed me to socialize with my friends while also remaining competitive. But sports were also a means for me to keep out of trouble in a low-income community where teenagers were frequently pressured to get into mischief with their friends or become involved in street violence. Sports have always been a means for me to connect with others and be touched by them. Many of my greatest mentors in life have been coaches from various sports.
These are men and women in my life who shaped me into the person I am today. The way I appraise myself or represent myself in the world, the values I hold important, and what I can pass on to those I will help shape into young men and women one day. Mentors in my life have taught me the value of being myself and the importance of what I have to say, so that I may have the same influence on the next generation that they have had on me. The wisdom and experience I can pass on to people who come after me so that they can discover the morals and values that are important to them.
These individuals have inspired me to make a difference in the lives of others, particularly those younger than me who are in similar situations. I enjoy coaching sports to young children in my neighborhood since it brought back some of my fondest memories from my childhood.
For me, there are several reasons to become a coach: to experience the joy of assisting others in thriving, and to fulfill your goal of being of service to others. as well as the most effective strategy to turn your life experiences into value for others.
