Do you remember seeing that famous jacket look Beyoncé wore on her keep going On the Run II visit? That was from Queens-conceived originator LaQuan Smith the man with the iconic eye for fashion who I have to say is my absolute favorite designers. His glitzy and frequent hot plans and themes for design grabs everyone's attention even mines. His designs stand out so much he was noticed by other hot shots like Cardi B, Rihanna, even the queen of the runway herself Jennifer Lopez, and many different famous people. Just like how Smith tells a story threw his design his life is a story also He was born in Queens, New York and was raised by his grandmother just like myself after her passing she left him a sewing machine that started his love and passion for design. Smith tried to attend and further his passion and knowledge of design at FIT and Parsons School of Design but was denied but he did not give up he started to intern at a New York Magazine the Black Book with a celebrity stylist and shortly after created his self titled brand. Some might say he was self involved for naming his brand after himself but he was simply setting the foundation for his ground breaking career. Some years later he had his first debate in 2010 at New York Fashion Week which was a major success and start to his design career. Since its formal debut in 2013, the brand has gained acclaim for its endless archive of distinctive garments and details in fashion. Smith has cultivated an equally dynamic private order clientele which spans all over the globe from Lagos to London. Just like LaQuan I myself have always had a love of design and fashion starting from a young age I watch my grandmother sew and make clothes for friends and family this is where my love started seeing her put smiles on her customers faces from clothes. I just knew that is where I needed to be. I would always watch America's Next Top Model and Project Runway as a young girl to get tips for clothing and how to dress no one could tell me anything. Fashion and Design was how I expressed myself when feeling shut out from the world this was my way of standing out. I later in high school started taking classes in Apparel and Merchandising which only made me fall in love even the more I started researching and found something that interested me and applied to many schools I finally was accepted in to the design program at North Carolina A&T where I am now a Senior I currently work in the fashion industry just like LaQuan intern for Kontoor Brands this has helped further and develop my knowledge of the industry just like LaQuan I never gave up and I am continually developing my skills in the fashion industry and with your help and this scholarship my dreams will come continue to come true and I will be able to expand my knowledge and impact people through my designs and eye for fashion and with this you might to see me in the headlines one day.
