I've always been driven by the desire to leave a positive impact on the world. This first manifested in my pursuit of a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I hoped that through creativity and ingenuity, I could build devices and improve upon existing technology to better the livelihoods of all I could reach. After completing my bachelor's degree with a 4.0 GPA, I learned what that path wound entail and was ready to accept it with open arms.
However, while I was giving a talk to middle and high school students on a retreat this past year, I was awestruck by something they said. I asked them to tell me one thing that was in itself good in this world. With serious expressions, they couldn't answer me. The best thing they could express was food because "we need it to live." I couldn't believe that no better answer could be shared. I sought a philosophy minor because I wanted to study deeper questions about the world in which we live. Now, however, I seek higher education in this field because the answer I was given by those students was not good enough. Furthermore, my own answers aren't yet compelling enough to persuade others.
Thus, my plan is to find what is objectively good in this world and, most importantly, find a way to share it. If I can do that, or if I could inspire a single person to the pursuit of truth and goodness, I will have achieved goal of leaving an impact on the world. I seek assistance now because I let go of an engineering career for this ambition. With the support of those willing to help me, I will learn and give back to the world as best as I can.
