FinalistBio
My name is Davis Henson, and I'm pursuing a career in physical therapy. I discovered this calling by volunteering at two consecutive PT-based paddle-boarding camps and interning four days a week at a pediatric therapy clinic for children with disabilities. The main factor in forming this goal has been witnessing the benefit and happiness receiving weekly physical therapy has brought my brother with special needs. I am also a Christian with a heart for serving others, so being able to serve others with my career choice has always been a dream of mine.
Financing for my undergraduate degree and DPT graduate degree has been challenging for my family and me. I wish to receive as much financial aid as possible to not further add to my family's consistent financial burden of paying for multiple weekly therapies for my brother.
I achieved all A’s in all my high school Honors, AP, Dual Enrollment, and other courses. I am also in my high school’s chorus program as the vice president and the National Honors Society and Beta Club as a member.
I am a WinShape College Program student at Berry College, a program dedicated to discipleship and leadership growth. In addition, I am also a scholarship member of the tenor bass choir.

LeBron James Fan Scholarship
As a fan of LeBron James, my admiration goes beyond his remarkable achievements on the basketball court. LeBron is not just an extraordinary athlete; he is a symbol of perseverance, intelligence, and an unwavering commitment to making a difference in the world.
LeBron's journey from a challenging childhood in Akron, Ohio, to becoming one of the most celebrated athletes in history is a testament to his resilience and determination. His work ethic and dedication to his craft are inspiring. LeBron's ability to consistently perform at the highest level, despite the physical and mental demands of the game, showcases his exceptional talent and discipline. Watching him play, one can witness the perfect blend of athleticism, skill, and basketball IQ.
Moreover, LeBron's influence extends beyond the basketball court. He has used his platform to address social issues, advocate for equality, and support educational initiatives. The LeBron James Family Foundation's work, particularly the establishment of the "I PROMISE School" in his hometown, reflects his commitment to giving back to the community and providing opportunities for underprivileged children. LeBron's leadership and philanthropy demonstrate that he is not only a great player but also a great human being.
The question of whether LeBron James is the greatest basketball player of all time is a topic of much debate. In my opinion, LeBron's versatility, longevity, and impact on the game make a compelling case for his inclusion in the conversation for the greatest of all time (GOAT). He has excelled in various facets of the game—scoring, passing, rebounding, and defending—while consistently leading his teams to success. His ability to adapt and evolve throughout his career, remaining dominant across different eras of the game, is unparalleled.
However, determining the GOAT is inherently subjective and influenced by personal biases and preferences. While LeBron's achievements are extraordinary, the legacy of players like Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar also deserves recognition. Each of these players has left an indelible mark on the sport and has contributed to its global popularity.
Ultimately, LeBron James's greatness lies not only in his on-court performances but also in his character and the positive impact he has made off the court. Whether or not he is deemed the greatest of all time, his legacy as a transformative figure in sports and society is undeniable.
LeBron James embodies the qualities of a true champion—relentless in pursuit of excellence, compassionate in his actions, and inspirational in his journey. This is why I am a fan of LeBron James, and why I believe his influence and accomplishments will be remembered for generations to come.
Billie Eilish Fan Scholarship
In the soundtrack of my life, Billie Eilish's music resonates deeply, echoing my emotions, fears, and triumphs. Three songs—“When the Party’s Over,” “Everything I Wanted,” and “Happier Than Ever”—stand out, not just as melodies, but as emotional milestones.
“When the Party’s Over” is an anthem for every silent struggle I’ve faced. It’s a hauntingly beautiful reminder of the times I’ve had to walk away from toxic situations, holding onto my sanity and self-worth. The song’s delicate balance of fragility and strength mirrors my journey toward self-preservation, encapsulating the difficult yet necessary moments of self-care.
“Everything I Wanted” embodies the paradox of achievement and the shadows it cast. It speaks to my experience of grappling with the pressures of expectations and the fear of inadequacy. The lyric, “If they knew what they said would go straight to my head, what would they say instead?” echoes my doubts and the realization that true validation comes from within.
“Happier Than Ever” is an empowering release of pent-up frustration and the triumph of reclaiming one’s narrative. The explosive shift from melancholy to raw, unfiltered emotion is cathartic, symbolizing my breaking free from societal constraints and embracing authenticity. It’s more than a song; it’s a declaration of independence, a celebration of self-empowerment.
Billie Eilish’s music resonates with me because it reflects my inner world, a testament to my struggles and victories. Her songs aren’t just tracks on a playlist; they’re companions in my journey, offering solace, validation, and a sense of shared humanity.
Powering The Future - Whiddon Memorial Scholarship
Growing up with a younger sibling with special needs has had an impact on my life in many ways. Surprisingly, I never expected it to influence my career choice. My little brother has autism, amongst other diagnoses, and spends multiple hours a week attending appointments and various therapies. As the oldest child, I try to help my parents with his appointments as much as possible. This has allowed me to see first-hand the positive impact of attending physical therapy on my brother's physical and mental well-being. However, I know the financial burden of his continuous therapies and medical bills add financial strain to my family's resources. This economic strain impacts their ability to fully fund my undergraduate and graduate degrees required to become a Physical Therapist. Thus, obtaining this scholarship would lighten this burden and ease the stress on my family, allowing me to focus wholeheartedly on my academic pursuit of becoming a Physical Therapist to improve others' physical and mental well-being.
I have a heart for serving my community which began after I became a follower of Jesus and read Apostle Paul’s words in Galatians 6:2: “Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” These words constantly motivate me to serve those around me by taking on the weight of their struggles with them to help with what they are experiencing. Since this time, I have been able to serve others through my church and community.
I enjoy serving weekly at church as the boy’s student ministry intern. In this role, I serve as a small group leader for a class of 8th-grade boys on Sunday mornings. I also serve by setting up for Wednesday night youth group and welcoming new guests who attend on Sundays and Wednesdays. With my church, I had the opportunity to go on a mission trip to Memphis, Tennessee. There, I was able to impact the community by assisting in running a Vacation Bible School at a local church plant, participating in door-to-door evangelism, and serving in multiple service projects at two of the local YMCA’s.
I was also honored to volunteer as a buddy at a paddle board camp for children with special needs. Seeing the joy on the camper's faces as they learned a new skill on the paddle board was very rewarding, knowing that I could give my time to contribute to the joy they were experiencing. I also have accepted an offer for a full-time position as a clinical aide this summer with the therapy clinic that hosts the paddle board camp. In this position, I will be helping plan, set up, and lead their summer camps.
As a result of these and other experiences, I knew Physical Therapy was my calling with the opportunity to serve others daily, help ease their physical struggles, and hopefully brighten their day. This scholarship will help me obtain a Physical Therapy degree and continue living out God’s calling to help bear others’ burdens daily.
Minecraft Forever Fan Scholarship
In the whirlwind of life's challenges, finding a sanctuary where one can reclaim a sense of control and peace is invaluable. For me, that refuge is found not in traditional pursuits but in the virtual battlegrounds of Minecraft PvP (player versus player). While it may seem unconventional, Minecraft PvP has become a crucial tool in managing the stress that arises from familial pressures and uncertainties. This essay explores how my engagement with this digital world has provided not only an escape but also a source of personal growth and resilience.
Growing up, I faced a range of familial stresses that often left me feeling overwhelmed and uncertain. Family dynamics, while deeply cherished, can sometimes be fraught with challenges that are difficult to navigate. The complexities of these relationships, combined with the pressure to balance expectations and personal aspirations, created a persistent source of anxiety in my life. In search of a way to cope, I discovered Minecraft PvP, a game that, while seemingly simple, has become a profound outlet for managing my stress.
Minecraft PvP offers a unique blend of strategy, skill, and creativity. Within this digital arena, I am thrust into a world where I can focus solely on the present moment, leaving behind the worries that often plague my thoughts. The game's design requires concentration and quick decision-making, demanding that I immerse myself fully in the experience. As I navigate battles, build defenses, and strategize my moves, I find a reprieve from the emotional strain I face.
The benefits of Minecraft PvP extend beyond mere distraction. Engaging in this activity has taught me valuable lessons in resilience and perseverance. In PvP, every defeat is an opportunity for growth. Each loss provides insight into what went wrong and how I can improve, fostering a mindset that embraces challenges rather than shying away from them. This mentality has translated into my personal life, where I approach difficulties with a problem-solving attitude and a determination to overcome obstacles.
Furthermore, Minecraft PvP has enhanced my ability to manage stress through the development of a structured routine. The game encourages disciplined practice, and I have learned to apply this structure to other aspects of my life. Whether setting goals, planning strategies, or working consistently towards a desired outcome, the skills I honed in Minecraft PvP have become integral to my approach to dealing with real-world stressors.
The social aspect of Minecraft PvP also cannot be overlooked. Collaborative gameplay with friends has provided a supportive network that mirrors the importance of social connections in managing stress. Sharing victories, strategizing together, and even commiserating over losses have strengthened my relationships and offered a sense of camaraderie that helps alleviate the emotional weight of familial pressures.
In conclusion, Minecraft PvP has emerged as a surprisingly effective tool in my journey to manage stress and cultivate resilience. What began as a pastime has evolved into a vital coping mechanism, providing me with a sense of control, personal growth, and a supportive community. As I continue facing the complexities of family dynamics and other challenges, I am grateful for the sanctuary that Minecraft PvP has become—a testament to the power of unconventional solutions in navigating life's obstacles. Through this digital realm, I have discovered not only a way to escape but also a path to embrace and overcome the stress that once seemed impossible.

David Foster Memorial Scholarship
In my sophomore year, a new director joined the theater program, bringing new excitement and ideas with her. Through her encouragement, I auditioned for an upcoming musical and received the lead male role in the production. Because I had no solo singing experience, I knew I would need to commit extra time outside of school to prepare for this lead role. Additionally, I needed to maintain my grades in my other classes to my high standards. Through hard work and determination, I performed to the best of my ability on stage and in the classroom.
Because I had never sung a solo, the director recommended I take vocal lessons privately to refine my singing abilities for the musical. After-school rehearsals were already consuming a significant amount of my time, and I still needed time to study for my honors and AP classes. The easy way would have been to sacrifice the quality of the show or my classwork to focus on one's prosperity. Instead of taking the easy way out, I stuck through and learned how to prioritize my time for both my academic and musical success. I began arriving at school early, meeting with my teachers to discuss classwork and assignments as necessary. After rehearsals for the musical ended at 7:30 each night, I went straight to vocal lessons for two more hours before going home. In the end, I received compliments from my friends, family, and teachers about my performance while maintaining As in all my classes.
Along with showing grit in my academics and extracurriculars, I have a passion for serving people, which comes from my faith. Galatians 6:2 says to “bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” These words constantly motivate me to serve those around me by volunteering at my church and in my community as well as in my future career in Physical therapy.
For example, I enjoy serving weekly at church as the boy’s student ministry intern. In this role, I serve as a small group leader for a class of 8th-grade boys on Sunday mornings. I have a heart for serving my community which began after I became a follower of Jesus and read Apostle Paul’s words in Galatians 6:2: “Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” These words made me realize that my career doesn't require making lots of money to feel successful in life. Instead, I can be successful by living out God's calling to serve others daily in my career.
Although I knew to achieve success I wanted to serve others daily, I was not sure what career field I wanted to pursue. So when the opportunity arose to volunteer as a buddy at a paddle board camp for children with special needs, which is led by various pediatric therapists, I couldn't pass down the opportunity to learn more about these occupations that serve others. While at the camp, I realized I enjoyed helping the campers with gross motor activities. Seeing the joy on the camper's faces as they learned a new skill on the paddle board was very rewarding, knowing that I could give my time to contribute to the joy they were experiencing.
Afterward, I spoke with the physical therapist who led the gross motor activities I enjoyed helping the campers. Through this, I gained a connection with the clinic my brother attends, which I later used to start a shadowing mentorship with a physical therapist. This solidified my calling to achieve success through serving other's daily through a career in physical therapy. Furthermore, I accepted a full-time clinical aide position this summer at this same clinic, where I get to be around other physical therapists and their patients as I help around the clinic.
As a result of these experiences, I knew Physical Therapy was my calling with the opportunity to serve others daily, help ease their physical struggles, and hopefully brighten their day. This scholarship will help me obtain a doctorate in physical therapy to continue living out God’s calling to help bear others’ burdens daily and achieve success in my life.

In this position, I will be helping plan, set up, and lead all of their summer camps.

With my church, I had the opportunity this past summer to go on a mission trip to Memphis, Tennessee. There, I was able to impact the community by assisting in running a Vacation Bible School at a local church plant, participating in door-to-door evangelism, and serving in multiple service projects at two of the local YMCA’s.

Mark Caldwell Memorial STEM/STEAM Scholarship
Along with showing grit in my academics and extracurriculars, I want this committee to know about my passion for serving people, which comes from my faith.
This past summer, I was honored to volunteer as a buddy at a paddle board camp for children with special needs. In this position, I will be helping plan, set up, and lead all of their summer camps.

Growing up with a younger sibling with special needs has had an impact on my life in many ways. Surprisingly, I never expected it to influence my career choice. My little brother has autism, amongst other diagnoses, and spends multiple hours a week attending appointments and various therapies. As the oldest child, I try to help my parents with his appointments as much as I can.

As a dedicated student pursuing a career in physical therapy, I am committed to ensuring that I receive the most effective and advanced training available. My research has led me to focus on the benefits of simulation-based interprofessional training, which I believe will be instrumental in preparing me for the high demands of the modern medical field.
When considering the future of my career and the kind of care I would want for my future children, I am driven to seek out the best possible training methods. The conventional approach to anatomy training, relying on textbooks and lectures, has been effective for years. However, new research suggests that simulation-based training, including virtual reality and structured clinical examinations, offers significant advantages for students pursuing careers in physical therapy and other healthcare fields.
My interest in this topic was sparked during a mentorship at a pediatric therapy clinic, where I witnessed firsthand the complexity and fast-paced nature of the healthcare environment. From reviewing patient histories to ensuring equipment is sanitized, there are many elements to consider simultaneously. This experience highlighted the importance of being well-prepared and proficient in interprofessional collaboration, which is essential for delivering effective care.
To determine the most effective method of interprofessional training for physical therapy students, I conducted a thorough analysis of relevant studies and interviewed a physical therapist to gain insights from their experiences. One study, "An Acute Interprofessional Simulation Experience for Occupational and Physical Therapy Students," demonstrated the effectiveness of simulation-based training in preparing students for high-intensity environments like the ICU. Another study focused on physiotherapy students found that 89.18% of students highly praised the use of objective structured clinical examinations (OSCE) for developing clinical skills.
Additionally, a study comparing virtual reality simulations to conventional anatomy training in preparing physical therapy students for standardized testing found that students who participated in VR simulations achieved significantly higher test scores. These findings underscore the benefits of simulation-based training in enhancing student preparedness and performance.
Based on my research, I am convinced that pursuing simulation-based interprofessional training is essential for my development as a physical therapist. Upon completing my undergraduate degree at Berry College, I intend to enroll in a graduate program that offers this advanced training methodology. By doing so, I aim to become a highly effective and sought-after professional in the field of physical therapy.
In conclusion, I am committed to pursuing the best possible training to ensure that I am fully prepared to meet the challenges of the modern medical field. Simulation-based interprofessional training offers a proven method for enhancing student preparedness and performance, and I am eager to incorporate this approach into my education and future practice as a physical therapist.

Growing up with a younger sibling who has autism and other special needs has shaped my life in profound ways, shaping my aspirations, values, and understanding of the world around me. My little brother, despite his young age, has been the most influential person in my life, teaching me resilience, empathy, and the importance of advocacy.
From a young age, I witnessed firsthand the challenges and struggles that individuals with autism and special needs face on a daily basis. I observed my brother navigate a world that often seemed overwhelming and inaccessible to him, yet he approached each day with unwavering determination and courage. His resilience in the face of adversity inspired me to see beyond limitations and embrace the potential for growth and change.
As I grew older, my role as a sibling took on new dimensions, as I became not only a source of support and companionship for my brother but also an advocate for his needs and rights. I learned to navigate the complex systems of healthcare, education, and social services, advocating for the resources and support necessary to ensure his well-being and success.
Witnessing my brother’s journey through multiple therapies, medical appointments, and interventions sparked my interest in the field of healthcare and rehabilitation. I was fascinated by the role of physical therapy in improving mobility, function, and quality of life for individuals with disabilities. It was through my experiences with my brother that I discovered my passion for becoming a physical therapist, driven by a desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others facing similar challenges.
However, pursuing a career in physical therapy has not been without its challenges, particularly in the face of financial hardships and family struggles. The cost of my brother’s therapies and medical appointments, coupled with the expenses of funding my undergraduate and graduate education, has placed a significant financial burden on my family. Balancing the demands of school, work, and caregiving responsibilities has required sacrifices and resilience, yet it has also reinforced my determination to overcome obstacles and pursue my dreams.
Despite the financial hurdles and time-consuming commitments, my brother remains my greatest source of motivation and inspiration. His strength, perseverance, and unwavering spirit remind me of the importance of resilience in the face of adversity and the power of unconditional love and support.
As I embark on my journey to become a physical therapist, I carry with me the lessons and values instilled in me by my brother. I am committed to advocating for individuals with disabilities, promoting inclusivity and accessibility in healthcare, and making a positive impact in the lives of those in need. My brother’s presence in my life has not only shaped my career path but has also enriched my understanding of the human experience, teaching me the true meaning of compassion, empathy, and resilience.
In conclusion, growing up with a sibling who has autism and special needs has been both challenging and transformative, shaping my identity, values, and aspirations in profound ways. My brother’s journey has inspired me to pursue a career in physical therapy, driven by a passion for helping others and advocating for inclusivity and accessibility in healthcare. Despite the financial hardships and family struggles, my brother remains my greatest source of motivation and inspiration, reminding me of the importance of resilience, empathy, and unconditional love.

Earlier in life, I often found expressing my feelings challenging. This struggle lightened during my transition to high school when I discovered a passion for photography that allowed me to document and better understand the feelings I was experiencing. The first photo in my portfolio is of the boardwalk at Orange Beach on a Fourth of July weekend. I took this picture in a season of life when everything was changing quickly. My first year of high school had just flown by, I was looking for my first part-time job, and I had a challenging school schedule ahead of me. The photo of the boardwalk captures my feelings of being overwhelmed through the masses of lens flare of the patriotic LEDs on the trees and the Ferris wheel rushing across the photograph.
The second photo in my portfolio is of Hamilton, a dog I walk as a part of my current part-time job as a dog walker. During his walks, Hamilton loves to follow the trail in his neighborhood to the lake, where he enjoys the sound of the water rippling against the docks and the breeze blowing through his fur. While he enjoys being in the company of other dogs, Hamilton summons a pleasant countenance while away from others at the lake. Like Hamilton, I delight in the company of friends and family; however, I am still excited to go off to college, away from the ones I know, to experience different things to find happiness.
The third photo in my portfolio is of my friend's jeep after we had just driven over a rocky, washed-out, steep incline on a jeep trail on the first of this year. The sense of accomplishment encouraged us to continue on the trail, but we knew there were more obstacles to overcome. Because I had just finished two dual enrollment classes last semester with A's, I had this same feeling of accomplishment as my friend, and I did when I took this picture. However, I was, and still am aware, that the challenges are not yet over after being successful last semester. I have two more dual enrollment classes. I have to move to college. I have chorus competitions. Not to mention my entire life ahead of me after high school. I plan to take on these upcoming challenges with courage, continuing to document my life and feelings with the pictures I take.

Along with showing grit in my academics and extracurriculars, I want this committee to know about my passion for serving people, which comes from my faith.
Along with showing grit in my academics and extracurriculars, I want this committee to know about my passion for serving people, which comes from my faith.
I also serve by setting up for Wednesday night youth group and welcoming new guests who attend on Sundays and Wednesdays.
This past summer, I was also honored to volunteer as a buddy at a paddle board camp for children with special needs. In this position, I will be helping plan, set up, and lead all of their summer camps.
As a result of these and other experiences, I knew Physical Therapy was my calling with the opportunity to serve others daily, help ease their physical struggles, and hopefully brighten their day. This scholarship will help me achieve my goal of obtaining a degree in Physical Therapy and also continue to live out God’s calling on my life to help bear others’ burdens daily.

This has allowed me to see first-hand the positive impact of attending physical therapy on my brother's physical and mental well-being. However, I know the financial burden of his continuous therapies and medical bills add financial strain to my family's resources. This financial strain impacts their ability to fully fund my undergraduate and graduate degrees required to become a Physical Therapist.

There, I was able to impact the community by assisting in running a Vacation Bible School at a local church plant, participating in door-to-door evangelism, and serving in multiple service projects at two of the local YMCA’s.
This past summer, I was also honored to volunteer as a buddy at a paddle board camp for children with special needs. Seeing the joy on the camper's faces as they learned a new skill on the paddle board was very rewarding, knowing that I could give my time to contribute to the joy they were experiencing.
As a result of these and other experiences, I knew Physical Therapy was my calling with the opportunity to serve others daily, help ease their physical struggles, and hopefully brighten their days. I am eager to cross paths with and impact hundreds possibly thousands of lives in the future. As a sibling to one who needs so much support, I know that not only will I be making an impact on the lives of my patients but the lives of their family members as well, this makes my heart swell with pride. Each little victory compounds to make a profound significance on daily living when it comes to physical therapy and progress. This scholarship will help me achieve my goal of obtaining a degree in Physical Therapy as I seek to obtain my required undergrad degree, graduate degree, and also continue to live out God’s calling on my life to help bear other’s burdens daily.
Deborah Thomas Scholarship Award
Growing up with a younger sibling with special needs has had an impact on my life in many ways. Surprisingly, I never expected it to influence my career choice. My little brother has autism, amongst other diagnoses, and spends multiple hours a week attending appointments and various therapies. As the oldest child, I try to help my parents with his appointments as much as I can.
I also have accepted an offer for a full-time position as a clinical aide this summer with the therapy clinic that hosts the paddle board camp.

ADHDAdvisor's Mental Health Advocate Scholarship for Health Students
Growing up with a younger sibling who has special needs has profoundly influenced my life. Despite not expecting it, this experience has played a significant role in shaping my career aspirations. I've witnessed firsthand the positive impact of physical therapy on my brother's well-being, both physically and mentally. However, the financial strain of his continuous therapies and medical bills has made it challenging for my family to fully support my academic ambitions to become a Physical Therapist. Receiving this scholarship would not only alleviate the financial burden on my family but also allow me to dedicate myself entirely to my academic pursuits. My goal is to become a Physical Therapist and contribute to improving others' physical and mental well-being.
My passion for serving others and my community was sparked when I became a follower of Jesus and read Galatians 6:2, which urges us to "Bear one another's burdens." Since then, I've been actively involved in serving through my church and community. I serve as a student ministry intern at my church, leading a group of 8th-grade boys and assisting with various church activities. Additionally, I volunteered at a paddle board camp for children with special needs, where I saw firsthand the joy my support brought to campers as they learned new skills. This experience led me to accept a full-time position as a clinical aide at a therapy clinic, where I will help plan and lead these types of summer camps.
These experiences, along with others, have confirmed my calling to pursue a career in Physical Therapy. I am passionate about serving others daily, easing their physical and mental struggles, and bringing joy into their lives. This scholarship will not only help me achieve my goal of becoming a Physical Therapist but also allow me to fulfill my calling to help bear others' burdens.

Sloane Stephens Doc & Glo Scholarship
After show week, I received compliments from my friends, family, and teachers about my performance while maintaining As in all my classes. Reflecting on this experience, I would not have been able to get through this excel on the stage and in the classroom if I didn't truly believe in the words, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." My faith got me through this time of adversity, and I know it will continue to get me through other challenges I face in life. Additionally, I want this committee to know why I am choosing to pursue a career in physical therapy. This has allowed me to see the positive impact of attending physical therapy on my brother's physical and mental well-being first-hand. However, I know the financial burden of his continuous therapies and medical bills add financial strain to my family's resources. This financial strain impacts their ability to fully fund my undergraduate and graduate degrees required to become a Physical Therapist. Thus, obtaining this Scholarship would lighten this burden and ease the stress on my family, allowing me to focus wholeheartedly on my academic pursuit of becoming a Physical Therapist to improve others' physical and mental well-being.

This past summer, I was also honored to volunteer as a buddy at a paddle board camp for children with special needs. Seeing the joy on the camper's faces as they learned a new skill on the paddle board was very rewarding, knowing that I could give my time to contribute to the joy they were experiencing.
As a result of these and other experiences, I knew Physical Therapy was my calling with the opportunity to serve others daily, help ease their physical struggles, and hopefully brighten their day. This will help me achieve my goal of obtaining a degree in Physical Therapy and also continue to live out God’s calling on my life to help bear other’s burdens daily.

I've always wanted to serve others, but throughout high school, I did not know what career field, education level, or college I wanted to attend to help me reach this goal. However, the uncertainty of my future began to fade last year when I started seeing a positive change in the physical and mental health of my brother with special needs. My younger brother started loving the idea of being physically active, calming him down and producing a smile whenever he did so. When I heard that this was a potential result of the weekly pediatric therapies he had been receiving, I began researching the different treatments he had been attending. Out of the various weekly therapies my brother receives, physical therapy intrigued me the most. So, after going to one of his therapy appointments with my younger brother, I began looking for ways to learn more about this career. After some research, I learned of an opportunity to serve as a buddy at a paddle boarding camp the therapy clinic was hosting, which I immediately signed up for, as I was eager to learn more about this occupation. The overwhelming joy I felt while I watched the kid I was paired up with balance on a paddle board independently was something I had never felt and couldn't replicate if I tried. The thought of being able to help other people perform tasks that can help them in their day-to-day lives compelled me to begin to research more about the steps required to become a physical therapist one day. Today, I am taking every opportunity available to me to ensure I am prepared for my undergraduate and graduate education to become a physical therapist. For example, this semester, I had the amazing experience of shadowing a physical therapist at the clinic where my brother attends physical therapy. This experience has further affirmed my calling to become a PT and has given me great career experience that most people my age do not have when considering what they want to do. Additionally, I am applying for all the scholarships I can, such as this one, to ensure I do not add to the financial burden of my brother's ongoing therapies that my parents pay for. I will continue to grasp every opportunity I have to learn more about the career field of physical therapy to ensure I can reach my goal of becoming a physical therapist one day.

Music has been a significant force in shaping my high school journey, and its impact crystallized when I joined the Chorus during my junior year. The transformative power of music had been lingering in the peripheries of my life, but it wasn't until this pivotal moment that its profound influence became apparent.
With its whirlwind of academic pressures and personal growth, high school often becomes a labyrinth where finding solace is a challenge. For me, music became the guiding light through this maze. As I stepped into the Chorus room, I felt an immediate sense of belonging—an atmosphere brimming with harmony and unity.
My delayed entry into the Chorus made me acutely aware of the time I had missed. The moment I added my voice to the collective sound, I realized the depth of my affinity for music. Its influence rippled through every facet of my life. In the classroom, I found a heightened focus and attentiveness, the melodies serving as a backdrop to my academic pursuits. Outside the rehearsal hours, I discovered a newfound confidence that seeped into my interactions with peers and teachers.
The beauty of music lies not only in its auditory splendor but also in its ability to transcend barriers and unify people. In the Chorus, I witnessed the amalgamation of diverse voices and backgrounds into a symphony that spoke a universal language. It taught me the importance of collaboration, discipline, and perseverance, virtues that are indispensable beyond the realms of music.
Furthermore, being a part of the Chorus instilled in me a sense of responsibility. As we prepared for performances, I learned the value of commitment and dedication, realizing that each individual's contribution, no matter how small, was integral to the collective success.
Reflecting on my high school journey, I wish I had discovered the Chorus earlier. However, this delayed realization has fueled my resolve to make the most of every moment and opportunity moving forward. My experience in the Chorus has not only enhanced my passion for music but has also equipped me with invaluable skills and perspectives that will undoubtedly shape my future endeavors.
In conclusion, music, especially my involvement in the Chorus during my junior year, has been an enriching and transformative force during my high school years. It has provided me with a sense of belonging, taught me crucial life lessons, and ignited a passion that I intend to carry forward into my future pursuits.

Struggles with mental health can be deeply personal and challenging, yet they often pave the way for profound growth and resilience. In my journey, grappling with mental health hurdles became a catalyst for self-discovery and empowerment.
Initially, my struggles were obscured by a facade of normalcy. Behind a veil of smiles and achievements, I battled with anxiety and depression silently. Admitting the existence of these struggles was the first significant hurdle. Denial and societal stigma fostered a reluctance to seek help. However, recognizing the significant impact on my well-being, I confronted my fears and sought professional support.
Therapy became my refuge—a safe space to unravel the knots within my mind. It wasn’t an instantaneous fix but a gradual process of self-reflection and healing. I learned to embrace vulnerability, understanding that seeking help isn’t a sign of weakness but an act of courage.
Implementing coping mechanisms was pivotal. Mindfulness practices and journaling became my daily rituals, providing solace amidst the chaos. I immersed myself in literature and art, finding catharsis in creativity. Exercise, too, became an integral part of my routine, offering a sense of control and a surge of endorphins.
However, my journey wasn’t linear. Setbacks and relapses taught me resilience. Each stumble reinforced the importance of self-compassion. I learned to acknowledge my limitations and accept that healing isn’t a straight path. It's a journey with peaks and valleys, requiring patience and perseverance.
These experiences ignited my passion for mental health advocacy. Volunteering at local support groups and initiating mental health awareness campaigns in my community became my mission. Breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and fostering an inclusive environment for conversations became my goal.
Through these struggles, I gleaned invaluable lessons. I discovered the strength within vulnerability, the power of resilience, and the significance of self-care. My journey instilled in me empathy and a profound understanding of human struggles. I realized that mental health isn’t a solitary battle but a collective endeavor where support and understanding are paramount.
My journey through mental health struggles has been transformative. It taught me not only to survive but to thrive—to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. I am committed to leveraging my experiences to advocate for mental health awareness, support others on their journeys, and create a more compassionate and understanding society. I hope to use this scholarship opportunity to further my advocacy and make a tangible difference in the lives of those navigating similar challenges.

The text “Ode to Millennials-Gen Z” brings attention to the varying differences between The Greatest Generation, Millennials, and Gen Z. Each generation before the current one believes “conforming to their ways” will allow the next generation to become the most successful one yet. Just as The Greatest Generation claims, returning to their ways of life will allow the Millenials and Gen Z to form “The Greatest Generation 2.0.” However, the nature of each generation after The Greatest Generation has continued to be non-conforming to the norms of the older generation, thus preventing any future generation from becoming “The Greatest Generation 2.0.”
Growing up, and even now, I sometimes find it challenging to connect to my millennial parents as they continue to use the communication methods released soon after I was born, such as YouTube, Facetime, and Twitter. Adversely, my generation, Gen Z, tends to use more recent forms of social media, such as Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. Despite this, I have accepted my parents will continue to be set in their ways, so I have worked hard and succeeded in building a thriving relationship with them. However, the rest of Gen Z is not as willing to compromise on matters like these, just as the author mentions in his generation, “parents would ask that we kids write to them while we kids preferred to use the telephone.” This excerpt provides another example of how future generations will not achieve “The Greatest Generation 2.0” because of their nonconforming nature.
Despite the difference between generations, the text “Ode to Millennials-Gen Z” overlooks each new generation's increasingly nonconforming nature. The text appears complacent with the fact Gen Z continuously dismisses the older generation’s attempts to help, even referring to them as being “too kind” by doing so. Instead of inattentiveness to this generational divide, there needs to be active efforts made by previous and current generations to connect better. If it weren’t for the deliberate ignorance towards the wisdom of past generations, Gen Z could learn how to enrich the world they currently live in. If Gen Z, my generation, could learn how to build bridges instead of building walls between past generations, the world we live in could be a much better place.
