My name is Danika Dawson and I am a current college student, almost done with Nursing school. I am currently an LPN, but I am working on my RN. I will graduate in May 2021. I have joined this site to try to find scholarships, because just as every other student the price of attending college can accumulate to massive amounts of loans. Thank you for taking the time to view my profile, and I hope I can be considered for scholarships!

When I was just a child, my mother worked in home health care as an RN. The family became very close with us, and my mom would take me to work with her everyday. She took care of a little girl who had drown in a pool at only 3 years old and was not found until over 10 minutes later. She was still alive but when she was brought back she was fully dependent, feeding tube, trach, and internal medication pumps. This is when I knew that I wanted to be a nurse. If my mom had not taken me into her home health career I would have never got to see what it was like to really help someone, and see the happiness on her family members faces when their favorite nurse and I walked in. I was able to watch my mother care for, give medications and work on senses. Having this experience as a child greatly increased my want to be a nurse.
My mom would sit at the table for hours in our home studying for her BSN. I would watch her make flash cards and my father and aunt would help her study. I would sit there at the table listening to things that I didn't even know, huge words I have never heard of but I end up remembering to tell later. Going to church I would talk about the things I heard my mother say aloud studying, "The lungs change bad air to the good air we take in and we breath out the bad air" or "The lungs put air into our blood so our hearts can pump it away." And people would come back to my mother and tell her what I would be saying. I would've never known this if it wasn't for my mother.
My mother has had such a huge impact on my nursing life. Even to this day. I started as just a CNA in 2014. My mom showed me the ways of a CNA. I worked in three different nursing homes taking care of the elderly in their most vulnerable states. Then I just recently got my LPN in Summer 2020. My mother has been here with me every step of the way and kept me straight on the path I need. I have fell in love with nursing because of her. I have became a wonderful Nurse because of her and I don't know where I would be right now if it was not for my mother. I have became knowledgeable in what it takes to be a nurse: Never-ending diligence, professionalism, communications skills, effective interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, action-oriented, empathetic, and most of all respect, because of my mother.
My mother still stands tall, working as a nurse today. She is where I want to be later in life. She is my role model. My mother is who I am THANKFUL for!

My name is Danika Dawson. I am an aspiring nursing student with one more semester left in spring 2021. As most other students I have a huge debt already at only 22 years old. But, one thing I don't regret is learning the ability to help others in their time of need, just like my mother taught me. When I was just a child, my mother worked in home health care as an RN. The family became very close with us, and my mom would take me to work with her everyday.
