When I was 10, my family and I visited my grandma’s place in Nigeria. From the balcony, I can see the sun, moon, hills, trees, birds, and ants. I watch the birds build their nest over and over, no matter how many predators try to interfere. They labor tirelessly, gathering twigs and hay straws to construct a new nest. I was particularly struck by their punctuality; they knew when to get up, search for food, and come home. The ants carrying every morsel of food up the towering walls of our balcony occasionally lose their balance and fall, but they don't give up; instead, they pick up the morsel and resume climbing since they know that in the rainy season, they’ll become inactive and that morsel will aid them. After meditating on my observations, I was very inclined to contribute to protecting the health of our beautiful planet and the living things on it. Currently a high schooler in the United States, I have interned for WLGC (Work Learn and Grow Environmental Corp). During this time, I organized networking events for people interested in artistic, socially progressive, and environmentally sustainable communities in Brooklyn. I also conducted independent research on deforestation efforts in Nigeria, and Brazil and presented to an environmental panel at my internship. On Earth Day, I competed with my colleagues in picking up litter around Brooklyn through the app- Litterati. Along the way, we spoke to people, advocating for better waste management practices. It was a pleasure not just appreciating nature but also being a part of sustainable change. All that is natural is infused with a beautiful, tranquil, and harmonious spirit. You will feel cherished and revived as your inner being is reminded of its fullness when you interact with it cordially.
